I have had that big strawberry planter for a long time but I thought I would plant Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme.  By Simon and Garfunkle, LOL  There are a few differnt types of Thyme and Sage so I could fill the holes,  I put small coffee filters around the small plants stem to keep the soil from falling out.  I should have used the tan coffee filters, oh well, to late now.  I also planted Begonias in a Strawberry Topsy Turvy.

    Michelle,

So glad that you are close by and able to help your DD.... Even though you are thinking that DH is being the model of patience, I'd be willing to bet he is wishing he could do even more! Hope the weather cooperates and you can enjoy your dinner lakeside!

As for stories from Paris.... I am looking forward to each and every detail!!!

Michelle, I can't wait to hear all about Paris! Please tell us all the details. Hope you'll post some pics too. You really are the energizer bunny.

Deborey, great job with the planting and have a great time at the shower!

Michelle:  Echoing all the above thoughts & prayers.  Yes we're all looking forward to Paris stories.  Love the "cancer free" zone idea.  Hope it is a wonderful trip.

Michelle, you had better tell us all about Paris. I can't wait to hear how you find it. Oh, and make sure to find a good bakery (there are many) and buy a slice of pear tart.

Thanks everyone!  And Momine, thanks for the suggestion to buy a slice of pear tart, that's now on the "must eat" list along with crepes, macarons, pain au chocolat...for breakfast, and lots of wine!  I'll be pretty much ignoring the fact that I am diabetic while I'm there, and will eat whatever suits my fancy! I'm sure we'll walk off those carbs.  And oh yes, we are having lunch one day at Le Jules Verne, on the second level of the Eiffel Tower.  It's a Michelin-rated restaurant, and it's ridiculously expensive, so it better live up to the hype!!!  Lunch is something like 70 euros (about $90) each.  But it was the only way we could guarantee getting up to the second floor so we could then take the elevator to the top of the tower.  Several of the lifts are broken and the lines to get to the second level are hours long.  You can climb the stairs - 700 of them.  But my knees can't possibly do that, and now it's out of the question with Allison's broken knee, so I'm glad I had decided to make the reservation. All I can say is that the food had better be as amazing as the view!

Debbie - when I get back, I need to get a couple of those planters.  I have no dirt to plant things in the ground, and I had forgotten about the strawberry planters.  Even though I adore the lake, I miss my gardens from my house in MO.

Michelle:  As others have said...can't wait to hear about your trip!  We're all so glad you're going and wish we could be there with you:)

Deborye:  Beautiful plantings...can't wait to get to my summer home in NC to do the same...we leave in a couple of weeks, right after my two grand's HS graduations.

Dinner last night was with friends at a local asian restaurant that we frequent.  Tried to eat healthy but I had a glass of red wine instead of my usual hot tea.

BS's office hasn't called on my mammo results and I'm not calling them.  I have an app't before I leave for a follow up, so if I don't hear before, he will tell me then.  It is what it is.

    Have a good day everyone!

Michelle Really cant wait for the stories, and yes, some pics too.  I am living through you, as I will probably never get to Paris.

This has been the" cancer from hell" week.  Our good friend has lost his battle with lung cancer this morning. We are devastated. He was only 54 and so much llife to live yet.  Cannot wrap my head around this crappy disease.

And on that note.. I have an onc appt today, I have missed it twice already.  Seems like I have moved on and dont wanna see them anymore, living on that river de-nile.

Deb  Love the planters.  What fun with the shower...she deserves to do it like  never before.

We also did spaghetti with meat sauce, my DH request, since he did not get any lunch yesterday.  He held down the business while everyone was at the hospital with our friend.

Michelle  BCO is also my light at the beginning of each day, reading and talking with all of you wonderful friends!

(((Carrie))) So sorry to hear about your friend's passing.  Cancer really does suck in every way possible.

Kaara - ignorance is bliss, for sure.  I wish I had thought more about it, I would have rescheduled my MO appointment for when we got back from Paris.  Really poor planning on my part...lol.

Carrie:  So sorry to hear about your friend's passing.  I lost a dear friend to lung cancer last year...the small cell kind which is lethal.  Sending you prayers and hugs.

    LuvRVing Member Posts: 2,409

Kaara - was your friend a snowbird from Michigan?  I lost a friend to small cell last year, too.  She was a long-time member of a diabetic forum that I'm on, and I had met her a couple times when I visited Florida.  She and her husband were also golfers.  I'm feeling some strong similarities here.

  • Kaara
    Kaara Member Posts: 2,101

Michelle:  No, she was not from Michigan..she and her husband were long time residents of Coral Springs, the town where we live.  She was very active and a golfer as well.  When she became ill, she went downhill very rapidly.  She had been a heavy smoker.  Part of it had to do with neglect on the part of her doctors.  She finished her last rounds of chemo and then they told her not to come back for six months.  In the meantime she had a pain in her shoulder that she was treating as a rotator cuff injury when in fact it was the lung cancer that had spread.  By the time the dr's discovered what it was, it was too late.  It was a sad time for us last summer, and then my dx.

Kaara - that does sound like it was a very difficult time.  My friend never had a chance to do chemo.  She died within two weeks of diagnosis, never even had a chance.  Small cell lung cancer is about as bad as it gets. I can't imagine an MO not doing follow up for six months immediately after treatment, that's unforgivable.

Very sorry to hear of your friend's passing. My mother died last night. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's six years ago ad the last two years was in a wheel chair. It is a cruel, cruel disease. She will be missed by many.

Oh Kay, I am so, so sorry.  Alzheimer's is maybe more cruel than breast cancer.  My mom has it, too.  My deepest sympathy to you and your family.

Kay, I am so sorry for the loss of your mother....my own mom died three years ago after enduring Alzheimers (tho we really thought it was significant dementia, not true ALzheimers since she never had problems remembering any of her relatives, etc., but a very reduced quality of life nonetheless) for at least ten years.

I hope that she had a peaceful death, and that you are able to share good memories with your relatives at her services. Sending you hugs....

Carrie, yes, 54 is so young. Hugs to you also.

DH just put The Big C into the DVR...am hoping it is more humorous than sad tonight!

Oh Kay! So sorry to hear about your Mom... We are just starting out on that road with DH's father and it is so sad to see the decline each time we see him.... It's such a tough thing. Hopefully her passing was peaceful.... Hugs and heartfelt prayers to you and your family!

Carrie, Sorry to hear about your friend.... 54 is just waaaay to young!! Sending hugs your way!

    Michelle,

Will be thinking of you tomorrow as you have your appointment in Boston! Hope they come up with a plan where those d@mn mets aren't even going to know what hit them!!

This has been a really hard week for so many on this thread... The one bright note is, we all care about each other here! We have a place to go to talk when life serves us up a big ole 'crap sandwich' and hopefully leave feeling just a tiny bit better knowing we aren't alone! Hoping that those who those who are hurting find comfort and strength!

Oh Kay, It is so hard to lose a Mom.  I hope that you know that she now is not suffering, and that she was so lucky to have a daughter like you... and from your note, I feel that you were lucky to have a Mom like her.  I hope that you can find comfort in the good times that you had, and those memories.  My heart goes out to you.

And Carrie, I am sorry about your friend.

This has been a hard week for all.  I hope that the change in seasons brings us hope and happiness even in the face of what everyone is going through

Beer and pickles for dinner here.  A story for another time. I hope that everyone is eating a nutritious dinner

Shower invites will go out tomorrow.  For the favors I'm thinking ordering purse size hand lotion and put them in pretty colorful nylon drawstring sachets, now to find those.  Maybe looking for a place that would engrave Rebekan & Nick, August 25, 2012 on small tags to put on the drawstrings of the bag.

We have hospice/pailitive care for my Dad now, they will increase the hours as needed.  I left there crying, just to see him decline in just one week.  He kept looking at me like he didn't know me. :o

Mixed emotions, oh well, it is what it is, I've got to accept it.

(((Deb))) - I am so sorry for this sudden turn of events.  I hope the hospice/palliative care team makes this part of your dad's journey a little easier for all of you.

I agree - this week has been brutal.

I have my appointment at Dana Farber in Boston late this afternoon, then we'll go to dinner in Boston so we miss the commuter traffic back to NH.  The weather is going to be beautiful so maybe we'll be able to dine outside.

Laurie - is your whole neighborhood suffering the internet/phone/cable outage or is it just your lucky house?

Deb:  So sorry  your Dad is in hospice, but they take such good care of patients and never let them suffer or be in pain.  I was with my DA the last week she was in hospice and it was very heart warming to see the loving care they give.   Sometimes the patient doesn't appear to know the family because of the medications they are being given to keep the suffering down, but they do realize your presence when you are with them.  Take comfort in that.  Sounds like the shower is going to be beautiful.

Michelle:  Glad you are going to get some enjoyment out of your trip into Boston.  What a lovely town! We were there last fall on a trip and it was wonderful.  They had finally finished all of that construction on the big dig it looked like.

    Have a good Friday everyone!

Last evening I went to a little awards ceremony at my DGS's school.  He won an award for perserverence.  He had some challenges in school this past year with his reading, but he was able to overcome it by the end of the year and is doing fine.  I was very proud of him!  After that we went to eat at a local italian restaurant that we hadn't visited in a long time.  The food was just as good as always.  I cheated and had linguini (not gluten free) with clams in a white wine sauce...plus garlic rolls...plus a glass of red wine!  I felt I had earned it since I was down a couple more pounds from my target weight.  No dessert though!  The payback was I didn't sleep well last night.

Kaara - congrats to your DGS, learning perseverance at an early age is not a bad thing.  My oldest DGS has reading challenges also.  He finally has an individualized education plan and hopefully things will improve.   Linguine with clam sauce (I like red) is my benchmark dish for Italian restaurants.  If they can make a good one, then they pass my test.

My daughter posted this on Facebook last night.  Alex is my oldest DGS:

    Alex: When's grandma coming over?
    Me: Saturday
Alex: Awww. I want to start getting spoiled rotten tomorrow.

    Made me guffaw!!!

Michelle, holding you in my thoughts as you meet with Dr. Chen this afternoon. If it is not too trafficy (sp), it might be fun to eat at Legal Seaport right on the water....or any of the other restaurants on that new strip. Finally Boston is using it's harbor sites and we've been loving that area.
