I found some fresh local white corn as well as some locally grown heirloom tomatoes to go with my grilled steak tonight.  The fresh corn and tomatoes here are the best!

OK.  I'm officially jealous!!  I LOVE white corn and heirloom tomatoes!  (Unfortunately, my hubby is allergic to corn, so I usually only have it when he's out of town Frown)

Well...my BF is allergic to tomatoes, but I'm having them anyway;)  I'll make him a nice green salad and he'll be happy!  The corn and tomatoes are so seasonal here that you have to enjoy them when you can, fresh out of the gardens of local farmers here in NC.  Nothing better.

Cannot beat local fresh produce.   About to go out to the local markets with my neighbour.   Fresh corn whether it be bi-colour, white cannot be beaten for taste.   Allergic to corn... that would suck !?

tazzy - yeah - too many allergies - him to corn, me to wheat, but the worst is that he's allergic to sugar.  That one truly sucks.  He cheats sometimes, but pays for it badly when he does.

Happy Birthday Lacey, Seaside and Debbie!!!  I hope you all have an amazing day and get at least one happy surprise!!

I agree about not trying to figure out where the cancer came from.  Personally I think it is genetic and environmental exposures.   I also remember when they used to say chocolate caused cancer, now they say they were wrong.  Last summer when the house was hit by lightning it kind of confirmed things for me.  There are women who get breast cancer who never drank or smoked, exercised every day and ate a vegetarian diet.  Life is short, we have no idea if we will be hit by the proverbial bus tomorrow or not.  SO I enjoy my wine, I will eat the steak if I want it etc.

Last night we had grilled chicken with some grilled bread and balsamic dressing, tomatoes and fresh mozzarella cheese.  Kaara- What I wouldn't give for one of your tomatoes!!!  DH and the boys had pasta with theirs and I made myself a big old salad which was delish.  I have no idea what is for dinner tonight...I am going to have to rummage around and see what I can put together.  I do know that after all the wonderful eggplant talk I am going to be buying an eggplant when I go grocery shopping this week.

DS#1 is finally through the worst of everything and I am so happy for him.  He hasn't had to take medicine for two days as he has not been in pain and he has slept through the night again since Saturday.  This morning he even had a piece of very lightly toasted bread.  He was over the moon, I think he thought his throat would always hurt.  The funny thing is I thought being cooped up would be the hardest part for him but it wasn't.  He misses real food!  He told me this morning he can't wait until he can eat a cheeseburger again :)

Seaside- You have a wonderful voice, hehe! Thanks for the bd song. Have fun tonight out with your hubby!

Kaara- Thats funny on the realm perfume, i want some! lol! they actually do still sell it. Although the what ifs are true you still wonder. but its not gonna ruin my life. But i might just check out that perfume anyway, who knows might put  alittle spice back in my life. Tongue out

2friedeggs- Yes thats the same test, although my dads side of the family never got tested so it does not help much. And it is expenisve.

Michelle- How did your appointment go today? (((hugs)))

    Tazzy- cute sayings and true.

had a delicious sandwich for lunch today. Whole wheat berry bread, cucumbers, avacados, sprouts and jack cheese. After all the junk food the last couple of days thought i would sneak in a healthy meal. Will be leaving for portland in a few hours and going out to dinner tonight. One of DH's vendors from the casino is sending us to a fancy smacncy restaurant for dinner all paid for including wine. I hope they have lobster! yummm!

debbie:  Seriously..they still have Realm on the market?  The last time I inquired, I was told it wasn't being made any longer.  I am going to google it and see because I really liked the smell and I can't wear too many perfumes.  I'll wear it to the association meeting for our development this week and see if it perks up the old geezers...hehe!  What am I saying...I'm one too:(

Happy Birthday fellow Gemini twins, Seaside and Debbie! And thanks for all of the birthday wishes, ladies.

Came home early since we had a professional dev day at work, and I was too tired to return to school afterwards to work on progress reports. So I am home contemplating a nap ( a rarity for me) while awaiting DS2 who will go out with us for my BD dinner. Looking forward to it!

This whole perfume thing is interesting....I wasn't familiar with Opium...how wierd that so many used it.....was it super popular?

Laurie, glad your little patient is enjoying recovery!!

In my sister's birthday card to me she sent an article about cruciferous vegetables containing goitrogens.....compunds that can slow thyroid function by stalling the absorbtion of iodine. They recommend cooking these vegetables as heat neutralizes the goitrgens. So now I a wondering if all my healthy eating of cruciferous veggies is making me tired!!! I see my pcp next week....will see what she thinks. If I buy into this, I will really miss my kale salads!!

    Off to nap a bit.....

OK ladies....I googled Realm, the perfume, and found it on PerfumeNet.com at a discounted price.  They have two kinds and the one I used was called Inner Realm...it's a lighter fragrance than the other one that is just called Realm.  I ordered a bottle and a smaller bottle for purse for only $16.99.  I hope it's the real thing and not some knock off.  The reviews on the site were awesome...everyone who wore it said that people warmed up to them quickly, both men and women, and always commented on the fragrance.  I'm only going to spray it on my clothes now since my bc dx.

Tazzy  LMAO when I read your quotes.  thanks i needed that today.

Kaara  your killing me with the fresh corn and tomatos, ours will be imported from around the country until August when we may see some local stuff.   Local strawberries are ready now, I may go do some picking this week, if it ever stops raining!!

Debbie - have a wonderful evening with DH.   I love your part of the world.   So make me wanna do a road trip to Oregon again.  Oh! and I agree with you about us being a great group of people on this thread.  So proud to be part of it

Laurie - glad to hear that DS#1 is well on the mend now.

Deborye - enjoy your evening at Legal Seafood - great name for a restaurant.

Carberry - glad they put a smile on your face - hope you are OK.

Had lunch on the way home - healthy one for me too - Asian Chicken salad.  Was really good.   But boy does it irk me that they charge $14 for a salad - still I guess we pay for the ambiance and company (didn't that make me sound cheap eh?) Smile

Just started raining here again... so if it dont stop soon wont be a bbq for dinner !

Green Tomato Pie recipe.  Slice tomatoes and pat dry.  Pour olive oil onto bottom of dish.  Layer tomato slices and sprinkle with bread crumbs and parmesan cheese.  Sprinkle with salt & pepper.  Build about three layers and then pour olive oil over top.  Cover with foil and bake in 350 oven until tomatoes are tender.

We had the green tomato pie for dinner with the leftover ground meat/cabbage skillet dish from last night.

Just got home from my doctor appointment and a fabulous dinner at La Morra, followed by my first dose of Xeloda.  How weird to self-administer your chemo!

La Morra was so fabulous!  Our friends met us there, she doesn't like meat but will eat chicken.  She ordered a cornish game hen that was grilled with a brick and she seemed to like it a lot.  I ordered the fixed price meal with wine pairing ($50 for 4 courses and 4 wines, a bargain I do believe).  The salad was bibb and frisee with a gorgonzola vinaigrette, then I had a small portion of linguine with a spicy tomato sauce and there was some salt cod mixed in.  It was to die for!  Then I had a sauteed flounder with a caper sauce, with some greens and pickled radishes (I think that's what they were).  And chocolate mousse.

As for the doctor appointment, it was a harsh dose of reality.  He was visibly upset by my progression and made a comment about bad things happening to his favorite patients.  And he commented that my cancer is "nasty", then said he had never seen anyone with a Ki-67 of 90% ( the cell proliferation rate).  He looked at my previous path report and it showed I was Her2+ (just one +) and they are starting to clinically trial Herceptin on some people who are slightly positive).  So we may have Herceptin in the bag of tricks to use after Vitamin X.  And he said that I might be able to have reconstruction after I have a visit from NED.  I'm planning on a nice long visit from NED!

We are tentatively planning a trip to the big island of Hawaii in October.  Hawaii is our most favorite place to visit, and this trip needs to happen while I am up to it.  Our son and his SO have a timeshare and will be going for the Ironman Competition on 10/13.

I hope all you birthday girls are partying, big time!  Enjoy every minute!!!

Carole, my Mom used to make a green tomatoe  pie when I was a kid---but her's was a faux apple pie.  Very good.  I suspect it was a recipe she brought from North Dakota.  When she was growing up and first learning to cook, before refrigerated shipping, there was very little fruit there. Out on the farm tomatoes were often treated as a dessert product.  Ripe tomatoes are great with cream and sugar.

LuvRving - first of all your dinner sounds delish... and what a great price too.    As for the docs appt.  that really sucks...I'm so sorry but I dont know what else to say.  Here's to a very very long extended visit from NED.  Enjoy planning your trip to Hawaii... one place I must visit.  Cant believe I've not been there yet.

Carole - I will be trying that tomato pie recipe for sure.

Peace and hugs to you all xxxxxxx

Michelle, glad your dinner out was great.  Your dr. sounds like a good human being.  DH and I had a good Hawaiian trip quite a few years ago.  We spent a week on Maui and a week on Kauai.  It was a really reasonable package deal with a rental car and condo on each island.

Chabba, tomatoes as a dessert food seems really weird to me!

Michelle:  Your dinner sounds divine!  You have a wonderful attitude regarding your dx and tx and that is half the battle!  I just know that you will be visited again by NED and be feeling good to make that trip to Hawaii.  Don't miss the helicopter ride if you go to Kawui...very spiritual!  Actually you could probably do it anywhere on the islands but it was spectacular there!

Michelle  thank you for keeping us updated, I agree with the doctor about bad things happening to good people.  I truly think of you every day. I am a Her2+ and did the herceptin for a year, it is a drug that is saving lives and has very little side effects. Hawaii sounds marvelous. We were there way back before children, need to go back.

Did mini pizzas on Naan bread instead of the quesadaillas last night, mine was all sauteed veges, but DH had pepperoni on his.

Carole  Green tomato recipe sounds good. Have never had green tomatos cooked any way.  Gotta try it.

Michelle, so terribly sorry to hear about your last dr visit.  May you have a long visit from NED very very soon.

The big island is one of our favorite places, too.  We're going for a month in December - and trying to sort out a way to move there within the next few years.  (here's hoping :)

Carole - your recipe sounds great.  I'm going to try it if we have any tomatoes off our plants this year.  The garden is looking fairly peaked at the moment, so I'm not too sure if we'll actually get any produce...  :(  (though the tomato plants look the best of all, so at least there's hope for tomato pie.  :)

Michelle. I thought I'd reply about your doctor visit, but I've been sitting here in front of my keyboard....at a loss for words... for 10 minutes..

    Sharon's tumor Ki-67 is 97%...

(((Michelle))) I'm sorry about your appointment.  Like Eric said, at a loss for words.  But you are strong with an amazing family and your Dr's care about you, I'de say that is a pretty good trifecta to kick this cancers ass.  Glad you had an amazing dinner and Hawaii- WOW!!

    ((((Eric))))

DS#1 got the green light to resume normal food and run and be a nutty boy again.  He is VERY excited and happy.  We went grocery shopping after the Dr appointment and he was picking out all sorts of food he wanted.  The strangest request was Fruit Loops.  I have never bought any other cereal than Cheerios.  But, I got it for him and he had two bowls for his lunch.  He choose dinner for tonight which will be cheese burgers and tater tots, lol!

I bought myself an eggplant at the store after all the eggplant talk.

Also- brussel sprouts.  I hated them as a child and have not had them since I was a child.  But all of you seem to have great ways of cooking things I bought some today:)  Michelle I think you said you bake your with bacon?  Also, do I cut the ends off?  I have never cooked them before ;P
