So...whats for dinner?

Yes, Bedo, it is beastly....am sitting in front of a fan. I was very lucky today that my office didn't start to absorb the heat until 5:30 when I left. Tomorrow will not be pretty and I have so much more to do. I may as well swelter tomorrow and try to get it done since the building will hold in the heat for the rest of the summer. At least all the shredding is finally done! On the way home stopped at Whole Foods and a guy was doing Vita Mix demos. I had three samples of different things....all cold! yum! If I were looking for a big purchase I could be very tempted!
Had some fresh tomatoes with basil, fresh mozzarella and balsamic drizzled, then ate some eggplant/pepper salad we got at the Middle Eastern fare this weekend. Very nice!
There is a lovely piece of baklava calling out to me from the kitchen counter. Gee is it too hot for Baklava??0 -
Bedo!!! I feel your hot sweaty pain from here!! I can not stand being hot! Get a fece cloth wet it and put it on your head- add to the neighbors discussion
Kaara- your on facebook? I am on there as well PM me you last name etc and I'll add you
That goes for anyone else on here!

Oh, by the way, my blood work has been fine, so anemia is not a concern. Only problem with the blood work was low Vit D, for which I doubled my D vitamins.
Glad your levels are good, Michelle. Envy your spot on water today. We had a call from one of our NH neighbors that our boat was sinking by the dock. DH had asked the marina guy to check it out in the fall because he was concerned about a slow leak somewhere, and guy said all was fine.....well, I guess not! So it is now pulled out of the water. What a pain....which boats can certainly be. We'll get there this weekend to check all of it out.
Hope Friday goes well for you, Tazzy.0 -
Bedo- LOL on the underwear.Sorry about the hot flashes though. Thankfully im done with those. I started going through my menopausse in my 30's its was tough but glad i got through it.Oh and you may want a FACE cloth instead of a fece cloth LOL@Laurie!
Michelle- Oh how miserable without air conditioner especially with tons of kids running around.
Kaara- Same here im on FB with some of the ladies here. Under Debbie louise mcpherson there are so many debbie mcpherson so had to add my middle name which sucks lol!
Tazzy-Glad your dad will be home this week, and feeling better.
lacey- Your dinner sounds healthy and yummy.
Dh is golfing so probably will just have popcorn for dinner.

Me too, Kaara! I'm on Facebook as Michelle C Hall Salem, NH
We have A/C and it's running full-blast. People are still in the lake and if I weren't so tired, I go jump in. Chuck E's just about did me in, it was ghastly in there. DGD stayed awake all the way home, which made it easier to get her ready for bed, teeth brushed, etc. With any luck, she'll sleep in a little bit - no brothers to wake her up early!
Lacey - your dinner sounds perfect for this hot evening and no, it's never too hot for baklava!

Haha! No feces cloth here, though I'm about to try everything. Thanks for all your coolness and ideas. The cats are laid out flat as pancakes. I think the kitchen floor looks good. Night everyone and I hope you all have cool dreams.

Bedo, I had to laugh as I am sitting in front of my fan in my undies too. No air conditioning sucks. This weekend they better put the big window ac in for me. But I am enjoying my Tazo Tea, Passion, iced. It is so pretty, and tastes so citrusy. Much love to all.

OMG! I should really learn to proof read- or not- feces cloth!!!
Moonflower-Love the positive spin on the heat:0) Enjoy your tea!
For myself I have a nice ice cold glass of Chardonnay going and am hoping DH goes to bed soon so I can turn the tv off and start reading.

michelle- Glad your back in your cool house.
Laurie- You make me laugh. Hope DH falls asleep fast so you can enjoy that wine and book.
Bedo- Good night, sleep tight!
Moonflwr- Hiope you get your air put in soon. got to be hot w/o it. Tea sounds good and refreshing.
We dont have air conditioning here either but they say you don't need it because it doesn't get hot enough, not true, it gets hot in this house. so when DH went to chicago to the food show he bought one that you don't have to put in the window just put water in it. it blows cold and will be nice when it starts getting hot in the house. Only cost $200 not bad vs a real air conditioner.

Michelle: I'm a Hall as well (Kay Hall)...small world...but that's a common name. I found you on facebook, but Debbie I couldn't pull up your name.

Hi to all. I'm like Chabba and usually don't respond to everyone - but this is one thread I do read every day.
Debbie: I must have mis-posted. The 1015 is a Texas sweet onion. It's something like Videlia onion from Georgia. And don't you have one in the NW too? Can't remember the name.
Corn on the cob for dinner. Dessert was strawberries dipped in sour cream and rolled in brown suger.

Kaara- Yes if you cant find Michelle or Laurie or some of the others just find me and you can look at my friends list and add them from there.
Minustwo- oh ok we have the videla onions here too so sweet just never heard them called 1015 unless its on a tag that i did not notice.

debbie. do you get the WallaWalla Sweets in your area? A few people claim they're sweet enough to eat like an apple. I love to carmalize them for French onion soup. Mild so you can use a lot of them and carmalize easier than any others I tried, even Vidalias. Also wonderful grilled on burgers.0
-
Chabba- Yes we do and i wanted to mention them in my last post but could not think of the name.So thinks for that, it was driving me crazy. lol! I have been getting them the last couple of months but have not seen them in the last week or so, so wondering if they are out of season or pretty close to it? I love to carmalize them like you said, and with red bell peppers for a cheese steak sandwich or french dip. Yumm.
Going to bed now so you wont have to hear from me for at least another 8 or 9 hours lol! Sorry ladies if i post to much i get bored and don't have a life like ya all. LOL!

Kaara - got your friend request and accepted. Debbie and Laurie are in my friend list, too.
My granddaughter is still sleeping, I guess we wore her out yesterday! She didn't get to sleep until 9, and it's quiet here so she may sleep in. I think her brothers wake her up most mornings, they are noisy little critters in the morning!

Kaara - your photo work is 1/2 done. if you've easily posted to facebook..
you just make the photos full size on face book, copy them (rightclick/copy) and then come here and paste them into the reply box.
super easy.

Apple: Thanks! I'll give it a try.
Another beautiful day here...but no rain, so my plants will beg for water. If I don't get them well established before we leave for Wisconsin on July 3, they will surely die. I usually fill a big tub with water and put the potted plants in that for the duration of a trip...it usually works.
I think we're playing golf late this afternoon, so we'll grab a bite in town after that. Yea...no cooking!

Another Hall here! It's DH's last name and my "married" last name.
Our departure date is tomorrow so I decided it was time to use an Outback restaurant gift certificate and not cook tonight. My youngest sister and her dh will join us. This afternoon I will transfer most of the contents of the house refrig. to the rv refrig.
Last night was a veggie dinner. Okra and tomatoes that was delicious. Cooked some chopped bacon in saute pan. Added chopped fresh okra. Cooked it a bit. Added diced garlic, s & p, onion powder. Cooked a little more and added small can of tomatoes (fresh would be great), covered and turned fire low. Cooked about 30 min. stirring occasionally to prevent burning. Also had white corn on the cob from CSA veggies. Very sweet. Third dish was a zucchini and squash dish out of the freezer that a neighbor gave us. She grows a garden.
Last CSA pickup yesterday. The bag was loaded. Huge red and yellow bell peppers. Corn. MORE eggplant! Potatoes. Cucumbers. Heirloom slicing tomatoes. Red and yellow cherry tomatoes. Carrots.
Cannot imagine no A/C although I grew up in a home without A/C back in the days when nobody had it. We had a big window fan. I don't remember being uncomfortable. We leave our A/C on during the summer but set up at 82 degrees. It probably doesn't run a lot with the house shuttered. Our electric bill is very low during those months, less than $50.
Happy Thursday to all.

Carole: My ex's family was from Lousiana...connection maybe? I LOVE okra and tomatoes. I fix them the same way, only I usually add a can of Rotel tomatoes and green chilis to give it a little spice. BF isn't wild about it, and now he's allergic to tomatoes so I haven't made it this year. I think I'll make a dish for myself...it keeps and can be served over brown rice as a vegetarian dish.
I grew up in Texas with no A/C...we had a huge attic fan that would suck the covers off the bed it was so strong. I don't ever remember being that hot, but when I go back to Houston now, the humidity is awful...worse than Florida I think because there is no breeze.

What are the chances that you are all named Hill? Probably a connection somewhere down the road, you guys should dosome research.
Well, yesterday became the day from hell. Around noonish I became very sick...stomach wise...not sure if I got a bug or what, but started vomiting and could not stop until I went to bed at 11. Cancelled plans with the family and told DH to go get on the lake to get cooled off. Was never so sick, even on chemo. Going pretty slow this morning with a wicked headache....WTH? Have not eaten since yesterday mornings bowl of cereal, gonna try some toast and see how long it last.
Had a ton of plans for today, errands and such, but will have to put on hold till I beat this thing.
Cant even think of what might be for dinner...hubby will have to fend for himself.

carberry: Sorry to hear that you were sick yesterday. It sounds like a nasty bug. Be sure and take some probiotics to restore the good flora in your intestine. Everyone should take a probiotic daily for this. Most of our immune system is located in our gut. It will probably take a good 48 hours to get back on track after one of those episodes.

Carbarry, sorry you are sick. KAARA, where in WI are you headed?

Moonflwr912: We going to Milwaukee. Many times we take a drive north and go through Pt. Washington..we've eaten at a seafood restaurant on the lake up there. We won't be able to do that this year as our trip is a quick one up and back as I have eye app't.

Well we have had fantastic weather so enjoy your time here. Let's see, Summerfest is coming up, and there are a lot of different feats. Depending on which week you are here. If you haven't been you should plan on attending one of them.

I think we will be attending Summerfest in Milwaukee...his brother mentioned that. We're there primarily to see his 97 year old mother and his sister who is currently undergoing tx for lung cancer. Hopefully we'll fit in some fun while there.

Carrie- I hope you are feeling better. It sounds like it was just awful!! I hope you a resting today and taking it easy.
Carol- here is an idea DH and I do when we have a lot of eggplant. Slice the eggplant into rounds about an inch thick, sprinkle with some salt and pepper. Put a nice thick slice of tomato on top of it, sprinkle with olive oil and dice up some fresh basil and sprinkle that on top too. Top with a fresh slice of mozzarella cheese. We put a piece of foil down on the grill and place on top of the foil and let them cook about 5 minutes. It is delish!
So, we are going to head out and go camping tomorrow. Today with the heat and with getting ready my boys went to my in laws house. I have gotten all the food ready and I have everything lined up to be hauled out to the camper. I don't want to lug it out there, it is too hot!! We are only going for Friday and Saturday night so we kept the food simple. I think this was the easiest time I have had getting ready. Friday night will be burgers and hot dogs with cole slaw and garden salad for dinner. I bought ham and chicken salad from the grocery store with little finger rolls for lunch Saturday. For dinner Saturday night I bought some seafood ( since everyone has been eating fish and made me crave it!) I bought some salmon and some haddock, asparagus and some potatoes to grill. I am sure the boys will be eating some sort of sandwich or burger instead of the fish. But the best is always the breakfast food! Fresh bagels, fruit salad, yogurt, muffins, eggs and bacon. Oh and pancakes:)
Now, I should add I have no idea what I am going to make for dinner tonight.
I hope everyone is keeping cool!!

Just checking in from my 90 degree office in a 100 year old building as I plow thru more files, games, articles, conference reports, books, etc etc etc. it currently looks like an audition for hoarders here and I'm half done. DH came by to haul away my nice chair and the first boxes. Thought I finished shredding after three days of it and just found three more years of clinical notes that must be done. This will end.... Especially if I happen to light a match!
Carberry, hope you feel better real soon.
Laurie, I'm impressed with your sat dinner...only way I would manage that would be at the closest restaurant, or maybe camp take out?! Have fun!0 -
Lacey- good luck with the rest of your cleaning out! It can't be much fun to be doing that type of thing in the heat:( But, you must be looking forward to being done withit all and having time at home.
Saturdays dinner will mostly go in foil packs on the grill. This morning I made the stuffing for the haddock....wanted to let it brown for a couple of minutes more and got on facebook and burned it! I have to go make it again now, at least it is easy!

I had my yearly mam but I could not see my BS for a follow up afterwards because her Dad died. So I will be seeing her tomorrow. The mam showed no visible abscess to drain do to the Cellulitis but they did an US. That showed Mastitis but they still think that it's due to the Cellulitis trying to resolve itself. They were thinking of a tissue biopsy but I will know more tomorrow. When I went to see my onc afterwards my TM are still stable and she also said the same thing about the looks of my left tata. It is still a little pink and tender in certain areas but she gave me an excellent exam, very painful but she is good.
I have one more thing to pick up at my Dad's place then I can give them the keys back.

That okra sounds amazing i really love it, did not use to but for some reason a few years ago i fell in love with it, DH doesn not like it so i rarely make it. tastes yummy with corn bread.
Carrie- You sound really sick poor thing. Do you think it could be food poisioning? What ever it is hope its nothing serious and you feel better by now.
Laurie- have fun on your camping trip. The eggplant sounds good too. Yum!
