Bedo - if you email me the pictures, I can try to post them for you. PM me and I'll send you my address.
Thanks, ladies, for the compliments on my travelblog. I do write a lot - here, on WebMD, TripAdvisor and a diabetic blog that I joined about five years ago. And back in the late '70s, I was editor of a small weekly newspaper in upstate NY. I don't have any formal training but I've always had a flair for the "reporting" style. I'm not so good at creative writing, it was never my thing.
Apple - your son is adorable, and your love for your children is so obvious. I hope Halaven, as Debbie says, kicks cancer's arse! By the way, I have a son who would always try to do just enough to get by. He was smart and never saw the "point" in homework - he considered it busy work not worthy of his attention. There was one class, though, where he did all the work and got an A. It was a Mythology class and a subject that he absolutely loved.

Apple- I cant wait for someone around me to sneeze so i can use that, it cracked me up. You sound like such a proud mamma. I love my daughter with all my heart but she is kind of a butt head right now, soooo stubborn and she did not get it from me! I swear!

Michelle- Ahhaa, You were an editor for a newspaper how exciting is that! Im not sure i know what creative writing is exactly but i bet you come pretty darn close. As you can see i did not get A's in school don't even know what creative writing is. Back when i was going to school and i smoked i was always in the bathroom smoking so must of missed that part. LOL!
Bedo- Ohhh, feel so bad about your fish, it probably would of been good.

Apple soooo cute...he is the creative type and should probably become an actor or comedian. My son never studied either and was very accepting of a C....he just graduated as an engineer with honors and his girlfriend tells us he never studied in college either....must have gotten that from his father.
Today we are hitting the wineries with my SIL, sister and mom, just us ladies. My SIL has not lived in the area for many years (since the winery boom) and wants to visit a few while here seeing my parents....I am the tour guide, and I need to stock up my wine fridge.
Debbie I did not know that your daughter also experienced the big C, glad she is doing well....so scary. My onc told me that insur would not allow testing on my 25 yo daughter just because of my history. I think we should try, having conversations with her about this.

Bedo - when you email me the pictures, be sure to send them as "attachments". The one picture I got of Smellie Nellie (very cute) is embedded in the email rather than a .jpg attachment. I tried downloading it and saving it, but that didn't work. So I tried copying and pasting the picture, which did work but it was ginormous. So I'll have more control over the size if you send the actual .jpg picture files.
Speaking of pictures, here's a link to the photo album that my daughter put together from the 1000+ pictures that we took:
http://www.flickr.com//photos/russelldad/sets/72157630159516728/show/
Then click on the Show Options tab at the top right of the screen. Her sense of humor comes through in many of her descriptions!Pour yourself a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, this could take a while
Carrie - have fun conducting the wine tour! I hope the weather is perfect for you all!
Debbie - creative writing is fiction, poetry, which is definitely not my thing.

Tazzy, why so long till surgery? I had neo-chemo too, which shrank my tumor a lot. But my surgery was exactly 3 weeks past the last chemo. They had to wait those 3 weeks to let my blood counts recover, but 6-7 weeks seems like a long time. Are they starting you on tamox meanwhile?

I'm also an engineer. I studied some. In my case it was enough to get B grades...to get the good student discount of about $300 per year on my auto insurance....
It turned out that it was also good enough to get me into grad school....
Michelle, what town in upstate New York? (For the newspaper)

carberry - enjoy the wine tour. When we have visitors here wine tours are always on the agenda - which is fine by me.
Luv - I will enjoy looking at the photos. I just love looking at vacation pics - dont even have to be mine.
Momine - my last chemo is this Friday June 22 - the BS said he wanted to wait about six weeks to give by body a good chance to recuperate and my blood counts get back to a pretty normal level. Hmm.... I will ask my MO when I see her this Thursday why the longer wait. As a TN I'm not going to have any hormone therapy. He did say that he wants to do another MRI/CT scan before the op. Still worth asking the question though. Thanks for bringing to my attn.
To you all if you are in treatment hope today is as SE free as possible.
Finally we should have a 'dry' day so I am going to try and get in to the garden later on.
peace and hugs xxxxxx

Tazzy, that makes sense. They do want your blood counts up before surgery, but you could ask anyway. Sorry for missing the TN status, my bad.
I had an MRI before surgery also, of the torso, lungs and liver basically.
Are they going to poison you some more after surgery or how?
0 -
Momine - you not bad Approx six weeks after surgery I will have 6 weeks worth of rads.
And I have just realised.... 6 months of chemo, 6 weeks after surgery, 6 weeks of rads..... put them together and you get 666 - how bloody appropriate.
As this is a 'dinner' thread.... last night we had fresh salmon fillets (not farmed), corn on the cob and steamed veggies.
0 -
666 that's amusing...but I guess cancer is a beast and it does leave a mark.. sigh....
Last night I did a crab stir fry. A quick one with what was in the house....
Fake crab meat and whatever frozen veggies I had cooked in a bit of olive oil, a tsp of powdered ginger and a bit of lemon pepper.. Right before taking it out of the skillet, I splashed some balsomic (spelling) vinegar on it.0 -
Back to dinner??? OK. Last night we had salmon salad with fresh mangos and raspberries for dessert.

Carrie- My daughter was dx before me at barely 30 yrs old. When i had the brca1&2 tested it came back as a variant of unknown significance they paid for my DD to have the same testing for free. I believe they said that if at least 3 people in your family including cousins had BC they were tested. Thats strange the ins, wont pay for it. There is a form you can ask about at your surgeons office to fill out and see if the genetic labs will pay for this. Have a great day, sounds like you will be having fun.
Michelle- Thanks for clarifying. Will look at the pics after this.
Last nights dinner was pork loin roast with golden potaotes and carrots i smeared the roast with dijon. s&p garlic powder. garlic salt, paprika and seared it with some evoo till brown on all sides then put in oven at 425 for 2 hrs last hr i put in lots of garlic cloves. I normally after taking out the roast and potatoes deglaze the pan with some white wine and heavy cream but had no cream, but was good on its own. For dessert i made strawberry, raspberry shortcakes with smuckers magic fudge on top so good and yuummo!
Laurie- Havn't seen you in awhile are you ok?
Deb-Still thinking about you and sending gentle(((((((hugs))))))

I'm here! Things have just been busy and I stop in to read and don't have time to post and then I get behind....think I will get a moment to catch up and post to everyone and get behind some more Everyone has so much going on! So I will try to start fresh and be good about posting again.
Last night we had grilled chicken with avocado salsa and some rice. Nice and simple and it was nice to have DINNER. This morning I put a pork loin in the crock pot and added diced tomatoes, onion, garlic and a bunch of seasonings. I will make pulled pork sandwiches for dinner tonight. It is beautiful out and it will be nice to eat dinner outside and not have to cook.
Carrie- Enjoy your wine tasting, it sounds like a lot of fun and You guys will have so much fun!
Apple- LOVE the pic of your DS! He is a cutie! Hope you are feeling well.
Tazzy- We will all be here to see you through your surgery, and yay to be almost through with chemo!
Debbie- Wasn't the last episode of the Big C startling? I kind of liked it though, I could relate in a way. I don't remember who asked but this was the last episode of season 3. I also had no idea your daughter went through BC as well? How horrible.
Eric- I hope your wife is doing ok with her most recent treatment and it is gentle on her.
I know I am missing some of you....sorry!!

Michelle- Enjoy the heat wave we are about to have with your grandkids! I bet you are so happy you moved back to NH, can't wait to see oics of you all playing int he water

Thank you.
The Taxol has been very "kind" to Sharon as far as side effects go...just a little bit of leg weakness lasting for only a few hours after the chemo. This is much less harsh than the A/C.
We just got back from the doctor's office. Her CA marker numbers are still rising, but according to the doctor, the numbers sometimes will rise during chemo...so for now we still don't have any idea as to how well things are going.
I hate this cancer crap.........

Eric - the town is Pulaski, about 40 miles north of Syracuse. The paper was the Pulaski Democrat, published by a company in Gouverneur, NY.
Here's a link to some info on the newspaper:
http://news2.nnyln.net/pulaski-democrat/search.html
If you enter my name in the search box on the left side (Michelle Morneau - my name at the time), you'll find 254 results...LOL...I am preserved for posterity!!! Even some of my bowling scores were published...LOL!!!
This is funny -one of the columns I wrote was called "From My Kitchen" and it has the recipe for the Dump Cake and our favorite shrimp dip (which was just SauSee Shrimp Cocktail with cream cheese).
Laurie - yes, for sure! So glad we are here, the kiddies are coming tomorrow and will have a blast enjoying the lake. And really glad our landlord is in no hurry to sell this place.
Tazzy - the end is in sight, woohoo!!!
Tonight's dinner is Taco Tuesday at Plaza Azteca...awesome tableside-fresh guacamole! And a mariachi band to boot!

Laurie- Glad you checked in i know you have a busy schedule. It sure seems that the Big C didnt last very long this season, but was great. My DD lived in Ct at the time i lived in california so i flew out to be with her and lived with her for 6 months while she went through tx it was the hardest thing i ever had to do, was watch her go through all that, i always tried to keep it together in front of her. I did not know a thing about bc then so felt so helpless. wish i would of known about bco then sure would of helped me to help her more. They didnt have a computer so was pretty much in the dark about it. Now she is just her fiesty ole self again. lol!
Eric- Im sorry that her markers are raising, hope its as they said because of the chemo. Glad her tx is more gentle this time around.
Just had a jack and avacado sandwich with fresh pineapple and cantelope for lunch. Everything is starting to taste so good again now that summer is here.
Our friends from southern oregon are coming up today in there motorhome so we will go hang out there on there private beach spot and maybe have a few margarritta's. Will be thinking about you while drinking them Lauire lol!

Bedo- Your daughter is so pretty!! she looks like you. how old is she?

Eric, i'm glad your wife's chemo is gentler this time
Thanks Michelle, I have never been good at computers
Debbie, she is a 20 something. She is so sweet, I have to drive all over the state and my car's airconditioning broke, so she said, it's ok, Mama, I know that med (arimidex) makes you hot, so take mine, I'll just open the windows in yours, and try to get it fixed. Your sandwich sounds yummm!
Tazzy, best thoughts on your treatment. How is your garden doing??
Tonight one of my salad things, with garden lettuce, artchoke hearts, shredded lettuce, shredded cheese, hard boiled eggs, black beans cherry tomatoes and... whatever!
