Tomorrow night between 6 - 8pm roto rooter is coming to unclog my kitchen sink. My plumber tried but it still is clogging. I put drano down a few times and plunged, I think I did more damage than good. We'll see tomorrow.

Sending healing prayers from Chelmsford to Revere for Hauntie aka Lynda. You can still eat at Pickity Place?

I made a wonderful orange yogurt today it is so yummy! Have made it before but this time I used french vanilla lot fat yogurt. Still used the vanilla extract too. I drained the yougurt last night.
- 1 quart plain low-fat yogurt
- 1/4 cup raisins
- 1/4 cup chopped walnuts
- 1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup good honey
- 1 orange, zest grated
- 1/2 to 1 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
- Orange, orange zest, raisins and walnuts, for garnish (optional)
Line a sieve with cheesecloth or paper towels and suspend it over a bowl. Pour the yogurt into the sieve and allow it to drain, refrigerated, for 3 hours or overnight.
Place the thickened yogurt into a medium bowl and stir in the raisins, walnuts, vanilla, honey, and orange zest. Thin with orange juice until it is a desirable consistency. Garnish with sections of orange, orange zest, raisins, or walnuts and serve.
Tonight I am making sandwiches for dinner. I put some mayo mixed with dijon on rye bread, sliced tomatoes, mild cheddar cheese, provolone cheese, thinly sliced red onion and whole green ortega chili's. Butter the slices and grill. One of my favorties.

Eric,
Too funny on the locking the car doors to avoid unsolicited zucchini drop-offs!! Last year I had an overabundance (and contemplated a late night drop off or two...lol) but this year, I got some bad seeds so have had to re-plant several times before going and buying new seed... Just coming up now so I am really behind! Hoping to get a few zucchini before frost... One man's trash is another's treasure this year for sure!
Hauntie!!
So glad to hear from you! Feels like it has been ages! You will definitely be in my thoughts and prayers as you enter into this new stage in your life! Praying for not only your surgery and physical recovery to go smoothly but, that your emotional journey and acceptance of yourself goes just as well!
Thoughts, prayers and hugs!0 -
OMG Debbie that yogurt sounds good!!
And so does your sandwich! They are both on my list of to- do ASAP recipes!

Apple is trying to keep her plants alive, doing laundry, vacuuming, keeping house. ... just working like an old dog who barely knows how to keep up.

Seaside- Why grow em when all you have to do is keep your car unlocked hehe!
Bedo- You won't be disappointed. I like to layer my sandwich, with tomotes on one side topped with the provolone, the other side the cheddar then the onion and chilis. Dont know why it makes a difference but to me it does. I guess it's the OCD that comes out once in awhile.

I cannot believe how much I have missed.... I know I will never catch up but am sending hugs and positive vibes to everyone - extra ones to those that need them.
Yesterday was hot dogs for dinner in the end with corn, tonight is the shrimp on the bbq with veggie kabobs.
Enjoy your evenings.

LOL Debbie!!!! Very good point! May have to move my car out to a very visible spot and hang a sign.... Zucchini's welcome here!!!!
Michelle,
Geez.... Blisters on your feet?!? Here's hoping that goes away quick and that there aren't any more ' You have GOT to be kidding me' moments!0 -
Apple,
I hear ya... Seems sometimes it's endless just keeping up especially in summer if you have plants that need to be watered.. It has been so hot here this year that we can't catch a break on the plant watering.... Only plus is we don't water the grass so it has gone dormant so no mowing for the last 2 weeks!!!!
Debbie,
Had to go back and check on your sandwich! Sounds good!! Was surprised to see green chili! Thought for sure it would be a peppadew...lol! Either way I bet it's good!0 -
Thanks everyone for your support and encouragement. I'll be in the hospital for a couple of days. I'll post an update on how I'm doing, once I'm home. What's for dinner tonight? Nothing What's for dinner the next month or two -not much. I think I'll have to skip over the food talk, for a while, when I check out this forum.0
-
good luck Hauntie- I'll be thinking of you and widhing you nothing but the best. I am sure you will do wonderful! Also, don't be a stranger on the thread, lots of people here have great juicer and vegetarian and healthy ideas for dinner too! We can even help you come up with some ideas!
Hugs.

Spinach salad with store bought rotissiere chicken cut up on top ( I like the dark meat) blueberries and mandarin oranges, red onion and crumbled blue cheese..... raspberry vineagrette. When my DH got done loading up his plate he commented "gee this would have cost me 14.95 in a restaurant" ha ha
Michelle take good care of those feet. Those feet were made for walking....la la la la
When I had a large garden and the zucchini came in fast and furious, I would make my kids take them and leave them on the neighbors back decks.
Seaside good idea on the sign on the car.

it really is too bad we couldn't all get together for a weekend and enjoy each others food. I want Debbie's sandwich- even though I don't know what the heck the green chilis are- spicy I am guessing?
If it ever happens Eric and Apple you guys bring the bread
0 -
OK Laurie, but you need to bring the shellfish or clams (? is that what you make often)
I will bring jello...ha ha that is about all I can muster up

Thanks, Bedo and everyone else. So after I posted this morning, I got a call from the Genentech (Xeloda) Support RN and I told her about the blisters. It just so happened that while we were away, I received a box from them containing a book about Xeloda and important safety information. She had me turn to page 15, where there were some pictures of hand/foot syndrome and a chart saying that blisters are a grade 3 SE. She told me to stop taking it and to contact my oncologist. It was the last day of my cycle so I am off them anyways. I sent an email to my MO and she responded back that she's reducing my dose by 1/3 (down to 1000 mg x 2) ad I can't start again until the syndrome is gone. And the RN said that they are required to report grade 3 SEs to the FDA. Geez, I knew H/F problems were a possibiity, but I didn't think it was such a big deal. I am well-bandaged with special blister bandaids and then an anti-bacterial waterproof bandage over it.
Enough about that!
We had beef tacos then we all went for ice cream. The kiddies were here all day and we were in the water most of the time. I don't think it felt as hot as it was (95) because we were always nice and wet.
Like Apple, I can't eat much spicy food. It's a chemo thing - it just hurts so I avoid it most of the time. I put just a tiny bit of La Victoria taco sauce on my taco - it's our favorite brand. And I didn't have my usual Diet Coke so I wouldn't double up on the irritation factors. And then we cooled everyone off with ice cream so it was all good!
Deb - what a pain, not being able to use your kitchen sink. I hope it gets resolved tomorrow night. And speaking of Pickity Place, is it time to plan our next excursion?

Hey Everyone,
Haven't posted much as dinners have been pretty boring. Tasty, but not much to write about. I did bake chicken drumsticks the other night. So ridiculously easy, but really yummy. I baked the whole pkg (16 drumsticks I think) just basted some melted butter and seasonings. Served with corn on the cob and mashed potatoes w/ gravy. it was great because there were leftovers for my son and husbands lunch the next day. They said they were yummy cold out of the fridge. My DD made a boysenberry cobbler this evening and it turned out really yummy. It's out of a Paula Deen cookbook, so it's pretty naughty but, it is so good!
Thinking of Hauntie as you have your upcoming surgery and Michelle on your poor feet. Sending prayers from California for speedy healing.

Carrie,
That salad sounds so good and would most likely command that price at a restaurant.... I, too, prefer the dark meat on a chicken or turkey.... I am definitely in the minority in my house but, that's OK.... More for me! With the crazy hot temps we've had salads and fruit have really been hitting the spot!! Getting the first of the local corn in! It's a pinch early due to the warm winter (early planting) but, I am most definitely NOT complaining!!!0 -
Seaside- LOL! I was out of peppedews but would of put them on too. LOL@the sign on your car.
Hauntie- I agree with Laurie we will all help with healthy recipes for you. But will understand, just please keep us posted on how you are doing.
Carrie- How sweet of your DH to compliment you like that. Funny on you leaving the zuccks at the neighbors haha!
Tazzy- Same to you! ;-)))
Lexi- Been awhile since you have been here. Your cobbler sounds really yummy!
Michelle- Good Grief! Thats terrible having those kinds of SE from the meds. I am glad you called your onco and know that is whats causing them. Hope they clear up with cutting the meds down. (((hugs)))
Watching Dance moms right now, how can women be so mean and catty? I can't imagine treating other people like that. I have friends that I have known for years and never came close to the way they all talk to each other. But can't stop watching it, it is addicting!

Hi Lynda. Good to meet you.
..sending good and healing thoughts your way.....
Eric0 -
Michelle - take care of those blisters!!! Grade 3 SE sounds very not good.
For dinner last night we had cold salmon, sauteed beet greens and kale, sauteed zucchini and a glass of Pinot Grigio. Dessert was fresh blueberries, raspberries and boysenberries. Easy dinner as I missed my normal train and got home late (stupid meetings at the end of the day!!!!) Tonight I have to work overtime, so hubby is taking us out for dinner.

Michelle: Take care, sending good thoughts and hugs your way. Does this crap ever end??
Hauntie: Also wishing you well and a good recovery
Carrie: chicken dinner with that salad sounds delicious and how easy eh? Hmmm... have given me an idea for tonights dinner.
Laurie: What a great idea - can you imagine the great food we would eat... likely need more than a weekend and I would be happy with just the desserts too.
Debbie... I agree, why cant people just be nice to each other.
Wishing you all a happy day. Sending positive healing thoughts and hugs to those who need them. Happy cooking ladies... and Eric of course.0 -
Hautie: Good luck on your surgery...sending you prayers and positive healing energy!
Michelle: Glad you called the doc on those blisters..they sound very painful and you definitely wouldn't want them to get infected.
Carrie: I agree with your DH...those salads do cost a lot in a restaurant...we always comment on what it would cost us to eat it out..lol! I buy the huge plastic bins of organic spring greens, and just make do at home most of the time.
Lexi: A good cobbler is my favorite dessert...next to red velvet cake..hehe!
Today I had my leftover chicken with artichokes for lunch and I'm off to Asheville to do a little shopping because it's such a beautiful day. Last night we played nine holes of golf and ate at a thai restaurant. My score wasn't so good, but my putting was pretty awesome for not having played in several weeks due to the travel and rain. My BF continues to "coach"...he can't help himself, but I can usually stop him with a "look" now...lol!

Laurie- I missed your post, The green chilis are the ones that come in a can called Ortega Green whole chili's you would find them in the isle where the mexican food is.
Kaara- I myself am going to the mall today too. The clouds are starting to burn off so want to enjoy when I can. I can just see "the look" you give your BF lol!
2 hard boiled eggs for breakfast, nothing exciting!

Spent most of the morning cleaning and getting ready for our house guests this weekend and we spent the afternoon outside in the pool/backyard. I told both boys this morning we were going to clean and I would pay them to help. They did a great job helping to pick up and they used the vacuum to no end...I paid them each a quarter, lol! They were very happy.
Tonight's dinner is Debbie's Belgian chicken stew, heat be damned I have a craving I have the a/c's going so it is nice and cool in here. Can't wait for the humidity to leave tomorrow so we can open the windows again.

Laurie... too sweet with your boys - bet that quarter is burning a hole in their pocket adorable!
Debbie: your 2 boiled eggs would've gone with my 2 toast for breakfast.
Not decided on dinner yet. DH golfing - yay.... so will be something quick and simple. Thermometer says 43 degrees here (109 F).... tis a warm one. Likely a salad... even though I have the AC going do not fancy cooking.

I have been waiting for the Roto Rooter guy for over an hour. I am getting impatient.

Oh dear, Deb. I really feel for you. I sooo hate those kinds of plumbing problems....gets my OCD tendencies out of control! I hope /she gets there really soon and takes care of the clog pronto and with no mess.
Tazzy....109!!??!!?? Yikes!
We just had a string of really bad storms come through here which also fortunately brought a bit of cooler air.
With the storms raging (a lot of lightening) I could not see DH grilling the chicken breasts planned for tonight so even with the heat, I turned on the oven and roasted them with "San Francisco blend" rubbed in. Also had caprese salad and leftover wild rice.0 -
I hate waiting in for service people to get there - even if I wasn't going out, still drives me nuts.
yep... our summer in the Okanagan has arrived - we bitched long and hard in June cos it was wet and cold.
Lacey... what is San Francisco blend?
