I am a curmudgeon. Nary a decoration to bring inside. However, some of my neighbors must be wildly nervous. The guy on the corner has 16 blowup thingies this year, plus a full house wrap, and a full assortment of statuary. Takes them DAYS to put up.

Well we are as ready as we're going to be here, too! Porch furniture put away (as well as anything else that could become air born). Leaves cleared from the paths to the storm drains. Staple groceries and batteries bought and cars gassed up...

Looks like here in central NY the issue will not be the flooding this time (although that was what was said last big storm and we had a 500 year flood event) but more likely the wind and wide-spread power outages...No generator here so if power goes for any length of time we will have a problem...

To all in the path of this storm.... May we all be safe and come through unscathed!

Carrie you look awesome!!!!  Thanks for sharing the picture- love it!

It sounds like we are all preparing (and eating) as best we can.  My son just had his first school cancellation for tomorrow.  Looks like I will have to look in my bag of tricks to see if I can keep them entertained.  If it's not too bad I may go hit the craft store first thing in the morning with them.

Carrie, great photo! You look stunning! :)

Sorry for your screwed up travel plans, Joyce. Hope plan B works!

Feels like the middle of winter with the constant focus and reports on weather concerns.

Laurie, wish you were closer...... I have a slew of rocks to be painted, glued to make animal paperweights, etc...tho I need to get the paints so I'd be off to the craft store also. ;) Have fun doing crafts with he boys!

Thinking of those in the path of Sandy.  Stay safe and comfortable.  Hurricanes are a big nuisance, in addition to all the danger and expense.

STAY SAFE EVERYONE IN SANDY'S PATH!  Woke up to high winds and cold weather here in the mountains!  Not a leaf left on the trees..LOL!  Power was off at sometime during the night but came back on.  Time to head to the tropics....leaving tomorrow....hopefully we will have good driving weather and if not, we will drive by way of Atlanta v down the coast.

Starting to look forward to getting back to a warmer climate.  There is always lots to do in Florida and friends that I haven't seen in a long while....not to mention the kids and grand kids.

I think I'll make a big pot of chili with the organic hamburger meat that I have thawed.  It seems appropriate on a day like this and I can freeze the rest for another time.  It will keep over the winter in the freezer.

Have a good day everyone and again...stay safe!

It's getting wild out here - lots of wind, not too much rain - more like a driving heavy mist.  Our power has flickered a couple of times.  I'm guessing it's just a matter of time before we go dark!

    Check this out

This is the scene on a street in Milford, CT

OMG Michelle! I'm just glad that wasn't your neighborhood! The wind and sideways rain is brutal here, and it's still just the beginning....tho nothing like on the coast. Mother Nature clearly feels she has been ignored with all the mild weather served up this summer!

Yikes, MSNBC has a shot of a crane atop a building in mid town Manhattan collapsing with the wind.

I worry about my sister in South Jersey who lives alone with her two dogs in a low lying area. Oy!

Got two different varieties of kale soup going on the stovetop....one with lentils and balsamic, one with cannelini beans italian spices and a sausage I picked up at Traders.

Our Traders expanded into additional space, so I have to learn the store once again...tho it's easier to get down the aisles.:)

Last night made seared scallops we got from the Farmer's Market fish monger (land and sea market :) served with roasted veggies over wild rice along with fresh arugula salad. Yummy! Last day of our Farmer's Market so will be on the hunt for some good vegetables and fish this winter.

    Be safe everyone!

Man would I be irritated if I lost power because someone didn't secure their trampoline! The winds at our house have already hit 60mph. The mayor just called [automated call] and said we are now expecting winds between 80-100 mph late tonight. Already have water coming in via the chimney seams. Long standing problem when we get winds off the ocean with water.

Bread is rising, but slowly. I hope we can eat before 10pm!

Now who is gonna be the one to get that trampoline down?

I put a mealtloaf in the oven early just in case we lose power.

Daughter in NYC says not too much action as of yet but the storm is due to hit around 5:30.  we are staying in close contact  She worked from home today as her office is located in lower Manhattan and they have evacuated that part.

    Stay safe everyone!

Wow Michelle that is a scarey looking picture! I agree with lacey love your new Avatar!

I worry about you all who are living on the east coast I have been watching the weather channel and I can't believe how bad it looks there. I hope everyone will be able to check in to let each other know your all right! Hope your sister will be ok Lacey and your daughter too carrie!

I still have lots of minestroni soup left so I won't cook again tonight. I have a pork steak that needs to be cooked so I might cook that tomorrow and then finish up the soup by Wednesday.

    Again, be safe everyone!

DH cooked the big lima beans (dry) with pork sausage for dinner tonight.  I cooked brown rice and will make a good tossed salad.

Today was WW weigh-in and I lost another pound.  Not bad with a family get-together at my mother's house this weekend and lots of comfort food.

Hope everyone in the huge path of Sandy is safe.  Check in when you can.

PLEASE STAY SAFE, AND WARM,AND DRY. Thinking about you all and hoping this passes quickly with minimal damage.

And the idiot who didn't secure the trampoline will probably try to get it down and get electrocuted. We have humongous winds on lake Michigan too, Sandy is causing Gale warnings all the way here.

Sounded like a night for chili, so that's what I made. Big kettle full. All for just me! LOL. But, ill freeze it for later.

    Much love.

The bread was okay. Not as good as a long-fermented one, but certainly good enough to put some brie on top. Dinner was a salad with a lemon dressing, smoked salmon, brie cheese, bread, and some apples, carrots and tomatoes. A light supper but perfectly satisfactory.

Power is out all around us, but we are still lit up.

Our power is back on, although it just flickered. The wind is really howling. I cooked early since I was afraid we'd lose power. I have one good ideas every once in a while! Had burgers (salmon, beef and veggie) and fries and roasted cauliflower. Also baked some pumpkin bread and corn bread today (from a mix :()

Can't believe they got our power back on so quickly, mustn't have been downed lines. I think transformers keep blowing.

Thanks for the compliments on the picture.  My DSIL took it Saturday along with a few other really good family pictures.   You know the drill - family that you never see until there's a funeral or wedding.  Here's a link to the album on flickr

Deb - your power went out right after ours.  I think it's hard to deal with once it gets dark.  I'm lucky my DD's power has stayed on.

Hope you all are staying safe..... South central NY is at this point pretty quiet... Winds picked up around 4 pm but have since died down... The forecast calls for things to pick up over night (hate those nightime storms... I think it goes back to tornado sirens in the middle of the night when we lived in MN)!!!

    Kay,

    Glad your power is back!

Lucked into a couple of battery operated lanterns that had just come into a store today and luckily I had the 'D' batteries to use them (there is not a D battery to be had here!) so if we lose power we hopefully won't be tripping over each other...
