Seaside- Wonderful news!  So glad you got great results!

I have been trying to keep my boys away from any news on the bombing in Boston.  It is hearbreaking.  I want to shelter them as long as I possibly can.  Everyone has already said everything so well- sicko's.  It makes no sense to me?

Tonight is turkey burgers.  I bought some fresh guacamole to put on them, I believe I will be the only happy person at the dinner table tonight.  Ohwell.  Somtimes it's a Mama night :D

Lacey- The fact that your son was so close to the tragedy is heart wrenching.  I am glad he is ok.  Although I expect none of you will ever be the same.

    Bobo,

Will be thinking of you tomorrow! Waiting for results is just the worst. Anything you can do to take your mind off the waiting helps! Hoping for good news for you....

    Nancy,

I would like the zucchini and corn fritter recipe when you get a chance. I grow zucchini in the summer and am always looking for different ways to use it. A lot of times I make a corn and zucchini soup or zucchini bread but there's only so much you can eat of the same old things!

    Carol,

Ditto on the Stuffed Artichoke Casserole! Would like that recipe, too. Is it on the weight watchers site?

((((( Lacey, Susan and all of Boston )))))). Such a senseless act of violence... Praying for healing for your city and the families left behind....

    Laurie,

As the person doing the cooking sometimes you just have to make what YOU would like to have.... I've been making a couple things early in the week that we all like and then, later in the week trying something that I think DH and I would like but I'm pretty sure DS and DD won't touch. They just have the leftovers from earlier in the week... Or a sandwich... But, mine are older. That may not work with little ones!

    2nd time,

I missed your post on the zucchini sticks (this thread moves so dang fast, sometimes). They look really good!!! Going to try them soon!

    Carrie,

I agree... Most times I'm just fine but, come testing time, that fear just takes hold and as much as I try to tell myself it's going to be OK, I can't shake it until results are in....

Reminds me someone's signature on this site... She has a quote that says something to the effect of... "Surviving cancer is like crossing the Mafia and getting away with it - you may live but you will forever be looking over your shoulder".

Oh well..... boring jump-ups for dinner tonight! Have to clear out the old to make space for the new...lol

I just can't get this knot out of my stomach.  A young engineer at work was at the marathons finish line (not running) and decided he and his buddies go get something to eat.  While they were waiting for their order the TV that was on in the store and they saw the bomb go off. OMG they had just left that area.

Deb, glad your friend is ok.

    Seaside, happy for you.

Bobo, will hope you get " unremarkable" news.

Have to tell you this. I went outside to get the newspaper, and mail. Decided to walk a bit down the block as it was so beautiful and warm. I had just a sweater on, but the sun was shining and I enjoyed a slow walk down the block with my cane, got in, and realized I have lived in Wisconsin too long, my beautiful weather was sunshine and 40 degrees! LOL

Ate a hamburger and pickled beets for dinner enjoyed the beets I had two servings.

    Much love to all

Moon, in Beantown we would just call that lovely weather 'sunny and crisp' and enjoy it. And you did! We had a heatwave today...60+ degrees. Hope you get one soon....

DH actually accompanied me to the Mall since we had to get his great niece a gift for an event for her we are attending. I also had to get a dress for the event. Not my favorite retail therapy...but I did find a dress as well as a suit...all on sale. I passed up a lovely blazer since it was full price and I NEVER pay full price in a department store. Also got a pair of bright green slacks that will serve me well when I go to Celt's games...and other times...love that they were reduced a lot....what, no Celt's fans?!

We were both tired by the end of the afternoon; me from trying clothes on and DH from waiting ;) so,we picked up some Italian dishes from a place that is supposed to be great.

I am so critical of food...I didn't really like it so much. Cheese lasagna, meatballs in sauce (their sauce was good), and chicken parm....way too bready. Now I am making squash soup with barley so DH can bring some to our NH neighbor who garages his car for the winter. We'll probably have it tomorrow for dinner, too.

    Nite all.....

    Lol Moon!

We lived in Rochester, MN for 5 years so totally get the 40 degree temps in the spring feeling like heaven... Especially compared to the -20 raw temps and lower than that with wind chill in the winter! But then the summers were holy crap HOT! I learned you have to be all shades of resilient and a whole lotta tough to be a mid-westerner..lol!

When we first moved back to upstate NY after living in MN, we were the crazies that were outside sans jackets at the slightest warm-up while the rest were still bundled up.... Now I feel like I am constantly cold.. I guess we adapt to our environment...lol!

Seaside... My pleasure! What are jump-ups?

Moon, Lacey, Seaside... Yeow...too cool for me! Grew up on the east coast with cold weather, so prefer So. Cal weather, though its been cold, windy and overcast the past couple of days. We had hot weather a couple weeks back, never know how hot or cool it will be (weather forecasters don't get it right either).

Forgot: tonight's dinner was cornbread and slow cooker chili (lazy day, finally got some sleep, resting up for Friday's surgery)

    2nd.... As for jump-ups....

I went back to college to earn a 2nd degree a few years ago and had young kids at home as did some of my fellow students. One day we were sitting around toward the end of our very long class day and talking about what the heck we were going to make for dinner that night and one of my classmates said, 'We're going to be having jump-ups'.... So I'm thinking it's maybe like a Sloppy Joe or something like that and I ask what is a jump-up? She responded with 'It's when I'm too tired to cook and I say jump up and fix your own dang meal'. Aka... A left over night.... Still makes me smile to think of her today... She was such a riot!

Seaside, thanks for sharing the "jump up" origin story. It has been permanently added to our household lexicon. Of course if my adult kids ever hear us using this term, they won't have a clue....unless they think with their eyes. :)

Just saw this article about Boston's amazing support for the runners and their families. A list was started of people offering a place to stay and matching those that needed somewhere to go....

I am a little teary-eyed just seeing the shear number of people who reached out to a stranger in need... Just as there is evil in the world, there is also much goodness!

"With details surrounding Monday's explosion at the Boston Marathon still developing, the tragedy's scope can be overwhelming. Solace can be found in the acts of decency that grew out of the aftermath of a horrible event:

A Google Docs form was created, giving Boston residents the ability to share their contact information and open up their homes to marathon runners from outside of the area who had nowhere to go. (in case the Google Docs link doesn't work, here's the url https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0AoXVKFw1Uci5dFNpRGdWd2pXZTN4a3Fza0VhVTRVaGc&output=html

The Google Doc wasn't the only example of kindness and humanity following the unfathomable tragedy ..."

    Lacey,

Jump-ups does sound so much more intriquing than left-overs! As for the grown kids, never hurts to keep them guessing what on earth Mom and Dad are up to... lol!

    Bobo,

Hope you got good news today.....

    To all,

It is just gorgeous here today and we are grilling a London Broil for dinner! First official grilling of the season all though we did sneak a few in over the winter... Will have real baked potatoes done in the oven (not my usual nuked taters) and going to roast snap peas for the first time. Been wanting to try it since Nancy posted about it....

Did lots of shrub trimming, raking and general spring clean-up and OMG am I stiff and sore... Tired but, it's a good tired!

Someone here at work wished that good didn't need such prodding to make itself known.

I'd like to think good is always there...but we rarely notice its presence unless something bad has happened.

Last night's dinner was fish tacos.... not at all what I had planned, but since we are leaving tomorrow, I realized we needed to eat the ripe mangos, tomatoes, and avocado. I had already bought some beautiful cod, so that was dinner. In actual fact, there was no taco. Instead I dressed some shaved cabbage with lime juice and rested the hot fish on top. Served with sliced avocado, mango salsa, and pico de gallo. Corn chips on the side.

Tonight I made some tagiatelle. [No pictures of me covered in flour however.] Pulled some Google Duck Ragu from the freezer and made a salad with every vegetable left in the fridge. Why Google Duck Ragu? One of my husband's clients works at Google, and on Fridays they have a huge and fancy buffet spread for the employees. This guy brings us the leftovers. One week is was [I kid you not] 6 lbs of cooked duck breasts. So, I made quarts of this ragu. The kids will be here soon, and I will make the same thing for them. We will leave at 7am for the airport so they want to spend the night here instead of at their home with is 40 minutes north.

Though I am not thrilled to be making this trip, at least there is really good Georgia BBQ at the other end.

Bobo, hope for good news today, sent you a PM

Debbie, I hope Chuck is doing OK xoxo

I have found a doc at Beth Israel/Deaconess who says, "don't put yourself through that" I will see him next Tues. There wil be much better and easier shorter treatments in 6 months that my doc in this back water town of RI didn't know about. So I will wait, depending on visit.

I found great green kale etc smoothies in a magazine at the "ahem" colonoscopy" center. which I scarfed with one nurse's permission and will post soon. Report was clear and great. Versed  was very creepy. :O

Bobo... Also hoping you got great news.

Bedo... Kale smoothies sound interesting, would like recipes. Glad for you that report was good. How was Versed creepy? Have surgery Friday, and would love something that keeps me from remembering the nasty/disgusting smell of the gas. Wish I could wipe that memory from my brain!

Dinner tonight: made 2 dinners for a friend who was in the ER for a couple days (pancreatitis). Made chili with cornbread for one dinner and chicken, broccoli, mushroom Alfredo for the other dinner with 2 kinds of brownies (from a box, too lazy) for her and her kids. After cooking all that, sautéed a chicken cutlet for DH and myself for sandwiches (that's what DH wanted).

Interesting day.  Waited all day for the AC man to show.  Finally called again at 4:45 (called also at 11 am) and got AC back on at 6.  'Course today the temp is 48 and only into 50s.  Big thunderstorms and elec. off from 4-7.  Gosh are we dependent on modern conveniences.  Had spaghetti/jarred sauce/frozen meatballs.  DH pronounced delish.  I think he was surprised to get much at all.  Elec. co. still working down the street.  Had my hot tea and DH's coffee made.

Pray for the little Czech community of West.  Pictures from news devastating.  They were fighting a fire in the fertilizer plant b4 the explosion.

I saw the pictures from West this morning - horrific!  My thoughts are with everyone there.

And for some good news from my oncologist about the results of my PET scan:

    Hi there,

It looks great. The report says there is a new spot in the liver, but that is compared to December. We don’t know what that looked like before we started the gemzar. The chest looks fantastic, and the adrenal lesion is no longer active.

So, let’s keep going with the gemzar!

    Regression, serious regression!!!

Michelle. I have a huge smile right now! I had someone ask if I'd won the lottery "or something". :-) I just said it was the "or something" that was even better......

I am so thrilled for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
