Don't know many who make their own pasta from scratch, that's saying something. Would agree Susan is right behind.

Nibbana... Can you eat grains? That's my newest interest

I can take pasta from a bag and boil it.....and usually get it right.... :-)

Chicken, sweet potatoes, rolls, a salad and some corn.  Nothing fancy.  Mom said she ate too much...which was my intent.

All my kids were here for dinner last night.  My daughter used it as an opportunity to clear out her freezer of her CSA meats - lots of sausages, beef tips and some chicken.  Plus she made potato egg salad and pasta salad.  It was too cool to sit everyone outside, just the men braved the 60 degrees.  And we had frozen mudslides made with the frozen concoction maker that they got me...I think everyone is looking forward to parties on the patio...lol.  I'm surprised DH encouraged that gift - we usually go with "will it fit in a motorhome?"  This machine is huge!  But the mudslides were yummy!

jen  I have had that cold quinoa salad at a restaurant before and love it.  I adjusted it and made it with orzo to appeal to my DH as I knew he would not eat the quinoa, but he still did not like it.

Now craving a rotisserie chicken. Like susan said...there is just so many things you can do with the pickings!

Luv  great idea on the drink maker...sitting by the lake with a frozen drink sounds like heaven. i bought a big plastic container with a spout to make all kinds of concocted drinks and can sit on the back of our boat so we dont have to get outta the water every time we need a drink.  We are also trying not to add any more stuff to this house as we are just gonna have to move it when we retire to NC.

Had pizza with my mom and dad yesterday and my sister....that way NO mom had to cook on Mother Day.

Gotta find something for the crockpot today as I am working till 8:30 tonight.

carberry - easy crockpot stuff - pork roast, BBQ sauce, and a can of cola for pulled pork BBQ on buns, or stew beef with thin sliced onions, sliced mushrooms, a can of undiluted mushroom soup and an envelope of Lipton onion soup mix.  Both can go all day and create very tender results.

I received an Omega juicer for my combination birth day Mother's Day. Intimidating at first but this morning made my first green juice and it actually tastes good.

Does anyone know of a book with a good collection of recipes? I reviewed some on Amazon and they were kind of heavy on juicers, the benefits of juicing etc and light on the recipes themselves.

    Thanks for any help!

I got an orchid. Because it's "tempermental" like me, per DD.  "And beautiful", I added.  Yes, that too", she added.

While I am not a Mother's Day fan, DD got me a rainbow sock monkey from Pier 1 - it is an inside joke between us - I love that she went for inexpensive humor over schmaltz.  Also in the basket was a Starbucks gift card (yay!) and some Skinny Cow candy.  DS, who lives in Virginia, called on his break from work in the emergency room - said he would call again tonight when he could talk longer.

DH woke me up a couple minutes ago, brain not awake yet. He goes to sleep early (around 8-9 PM), I can't usually fall asleep till well after mid nite and don't get much sleep, would love to sleep in. Maybe I'll get a nap today

2nd time - you are sweet!  It even turned out that we were the longest married couple at the wedding - 30 years!

2nd time - you are funny!  I was 27, will be 57 this year!  I accomplished the look in the avatar picture with a large quantity of spackle and a couple of glasses of wine!

SpecialK... Nice try, but don't buy it as your previous pic showed you're young and cute too! So glad this bc journey hasn't aged you. Between bc-related events and family issues, feel like I've aged a bunch the past couple of years. Should go walk off frustration but its 100 degrees in the shade right now (couldn't sleep last night so slept in too late for a cooler walk).

Got all the vegetables and flowers planted today finally.  Oh my aching back!  So shopping the freezer tonight. I've settled on Lasagna rolls, rosemary garlic bread and a not-from-the-freezer salad. It's days like this I really appreciate having something to fall back on.

Faced with more leftover chicken pieces, I found that I really did not want enchilladas at all. So, I used the stock I made from the carcass overnight in the oven and made a lentil-chicken-vegetable-almost-a-stew-soup. So darn good! Today's mix had green beans, leeks, lima beans, carrots, and spinach. At the end I threw in some of my "scrap" pasta pieces that I save when I make pasta. And there are three servings of soup left over. Guess what I am having for lunch tomorrow?

nancy, the falling back on is a way of life isn't it? So much better than ordering take-out and even easier. My new raised beds are now done. Will have to start planting soon since we leave for Georgia one last time during the traditional planting week.

2nd time - I feel ya on the hot weather - I am a Cali girl - born and raised, have never adjusted to the east coast humidity - we are in the mid-80's but feels hotter due to the ever present stickiness!  I walked yesterday with DH - first time since my cortisone injection to the knee the previous week - it was OK but HOT!  I need to get up earlier too and walk - today I went to the Y and did the Livestron program, twice!

auntie - my freezer only seems to contain raw materials, lol!  It is not helpful!

No cooking for the past 5 days and no control over "what's for dinner?"  DH and I went to GA for my niece's graduation from the U of GA where I earned my MA degree.  Lots of unhealthy eating but we enjoyed our visit with my baby brother, early 50's, and his wife and daughter.  Played the Eagle's Landing golf course at Stockbridge, GA, where the LPGA played a tournament  for a number of years.  Gorgeous course with beautiful vistas, thanks to a hilly terrain.

My niece chose the restaurant for her graduation meal, and I hated it.  An Asian sort of place called Chow Baby where you pick out ingredients for a stir fried dish and the food is cooked on a "Mongolian grill" and brought to you.  Yuk.  I would have fared better at McDonald's.  But it wasn't my graduation.

On the way home today, dh and I stopped in Mobile, AL, at a Wintzel's Oyster House where we had oyster poboys and fries.  I had the sweet potato fries, where were very good.

I'm looking forward to cooking my own dinner tomorrow night!

The kids had soup and grilled cheese sanwiches in shapes - hearts, bells, flowers, cars, stars.  If it's bite size they will eat it.  I had a BLT, leftoever quinoa and strawberries.  50 minutes on the stationary bike.  Appointment with my MO tomorrow...ugh.

Special  I also thank you for the crockpot tips, now that  I am working will be using them quite a bit.  I decided on lemon chicken. Had some garlic dijon mustard, thyme and fresh lemon slices.  Did some yellow squash and zucchini that was good with the chicken drippings drizzled on top. In reading your last post I thought it said that you were a "call girl" Had to re-read it and then close my mouth!  Love your new avatar....maybe being a "call girl" has kept you so young.

Good thing none of my plants have gotten into the ground yet, COLD here today..down to the 30's tonight.

carol, If you like Chinese food at all a traditional Mongolian Grill can be a true delight.  A year or so before a Mongolian Grill opened close enough to the office that we could go there for lunch quite often.  I always went with a Chinese friend that had grown up on Mongolian style cooking.  I always had him "compose" my lunch for me and always enjoyed it imencely.

Carberry... I had to re-read SpecialK's post too. Lol! So strange the big variance in weather temps, can't believe people don't think there's global warming.

SpecialK... Thanks for the reminder about humidity, was born & raised till teenage years in New Jersey/New York. Glad your knee feeling better enough to get out walking.

Jenjen... Good job on the stationary bike! Can't wait till I get cleared (by PT) for that.

Hot again today, over 100 degrees in the shade by mid-afternoon, so didn't get out to the store. Took leftover beef roast & gravy from freezer, simmered, shredded, then simmered in BBQ sauce. Love the way the house smelled. DH didn't want that so made French toast for dinner (his suggestion). His comment was that it was dinner & dessert at the same time. Quick & easy.

Not only is the kid graduating with her master degree. She is graduating with a 3.94!!!!! Way to kill it, eh?

This child at age 15 was planning to drop out of high school on her 16th b-day. This journey wasn't easy for either of us. I could not beam any brighter. I am so proud!

Ok, Paleo woman needs more variety in the diet. I'm going to go broke quickly trying to eat out and avoid grains. They're everywhere!  So, I got some pork lion and sweet potato jo-jo type things in the oven baking for lunches. Plues I got a can of salmon. Now, I have the biggest fish aversion in the world, so what possesed me to buy canned salmon???? Wild Alaska salmon is about the purest fish you can eat, and I used to work in a cannery, so I know it comes right off the boat, gets it's head and guts removed, then gets put into a can with water and a pinch of salt and is then cooked.

Now, to get the courage to open the can and eat it! Help me get the courage, what's for dinner crowd!

Oh, dinner is a big salad, eyeing can of salmon nervously...

OK ladies - I am definitely not a "call" girl - but that did make me laugh!

susan - you should be proud!  We are proud of you both!  That is an awesome achievement, and way to finish strong!  My DD was a challenge to get through school too - I know what you mean about the not easy part!

Oh Susan, BEAM! BEAM! BEAM with Pride!

I love such success stories, and know personally and professionally how gratifying it is to have a child who didn't necessarily embrace the traditional school format, yet with lots of support, scales the hurdles and moves on to successfully pursues his/her dreams. It can be an exhausting process and often requires assistance from "the village" but the end product is so worth everyone's effort. I bet she feels as happy and proud as you!

Congrats!! Here's to you both! :)

    SpecialK.......love your new pic!

Nibbana, good luck with the canned salmon. Enjoyed hearing the wholesome way it is canned.....but have never been able to eat it myself.

Laurie, did you watch tonight?? I am amazed at the writer's ability to evoke so many poignant, painful and humorous emotions in such a blended way. I am going to REALLY

miss "Kathy". What an amazing character!

Off to meet with my trainer in the morning. What a gift!

Speaking of canned salmon - one of my favorites has always been canned smoked oysters.  I'll open a can just for myself & sometimes add triscuits.  I had this one night a week after chemo # 1 when I couldn't imagine eating anything else.  Should be easy protein.
