So...whats for dinner?

Seaside- That's right we are triplets not twins, Sorry lacy, I knew that it just slipped my mind. My DH got a flu shot and he had a bit of a reaction to it, he got a little sick, and his arm swelled up like a baseball it was real sore and red, then I got sick right after that, So I told him I got the flu from him getting a reaction to the flu shot, he isn't buying it and not happy with me blaming him. Oh well!
Moon- Your dinner sounds really good, I love lobster and crab. Funny but same thing has happened with us too, when we lived in Kentucky every year for about 4 years we would get free expensive tickets to the Kentucky downs and every year ( In May) we both would get sick just 2 days before we were suppose to leave, never did get to go before we moved.
Eric-That is a lot of food for your DD to eat, maybe she is feeding some one else and hasn't told you yet? Ha ha that's funny.0 -
Awww so sorry that everyone is sick! Hope everyone gets better before the Holiday.
Laurie Florida for turkey day sounds great....warmer. We tried to talk the kids into NC for Thanksgiving, but they bulked and wanted to be with family. We are heading there this Thursday to close on the house and hopefully spend some time there figuring out what we have to do to get it in move in condition. Need to explore the area and find the best places to get flooring, paint, furniture etc... Maybe we can get the kids there for Christmas....my son is up for whatever, but my daughter is being a stinker.
Last night was chicken piccata, roasted acorn squash and smashed potatoes.0 -
Carrie, congrats on your new home! There will be other thanksgivings to celebrate there. I think you will enjoy one last one in your old setting.
Lacey, congrats on 40 years! That is something to celebrate.
Sorry to hear about everyone who is feeling under the weather. I think you're right, unfortunately it is that time of year.
Two years ago today I finished radiation. Reminds me of Michelle as she was doing it around the same time as me. It is nice to hear about the Christmas cards. You're right, it is like her. Thanks for the pictures Christine. It is so nice of you to share them.
Haven't done very much cooking. Made a chicken chili in the crock pot before work last week and some fish tacos this weekend. DH is making chicken tiki masala tonight and it smells good! Will check in again later. Happy cooking everyone.0 -
Ditto on the well wishes for all the sick ones.
Tonight we had goulash. Last minute option since were we busy grinding up venison that hubby got over the weekend. (Stocking the freezer for winter.) 🍴
Found out Friday that my precious fur baby has cancer. I'm heartbroken. She's 11 years old and although she's not suffering at this point, I know what's coming. I was afraid and very concerned about her when I got my stage IV dx. She's very attached to me and I knew she wouldn't understand when the time came and I would be gone from her. Now it looks like I'll be here for her when her time draws near. I thank The Lord for that much. Vet says we're looking at maybe six months. Prayers needed here.0 -
Oh Joysley, you certainly have my prayers!
We lost our beloved Akita to osteosarcoma the year following my diagnosis/treatment and were devastated. She was my girl and was with me through some pretty rough patches.
We took her home after receiving the news that she didn't have long and were able to enjoy 3 weeks with her before it was 'time'. Hardest decision we've ever had to make. She was just shy of her 9th birthday and I still miss her everyday.
A friend gave us a framed picture of her with the following quote...
"Dogs have given us their absolute all. We are the center of their universe. We are the focus of their love and faith and trust. They serve us in return for scraps. It is without a doubt the best deal man has ever made.
-- Roger Caras"
Thinking of you during this difficult time.

((((((joysley))))))) losing furbabies hurts. But I am glad you are there for her.0 -
So sorry to hear about your dog Joysley....I have one I love a lot too.0 -
Joysley- Hugs to you. It is such a hard thing losing a member of the family.
Special K- I would love to try to get together! We will be there for 12 days and we are staying with family :O Should be an interesting trip!
Bulogi for dinner tonight- aka pork medallions with pine apple and rice. DS1 will be thrilled- DS2 will tell me its disgusting
Have to run for the moment- hugs to all!0 -
Joysley, sending you hugs and strength to face these next months. Our little mini schnauzer left us two months after I finished rads.....so hard for our family, too, but we do have the sweetest memories of that little gal who is awaiting us at Rainbow Bridge. If you want a really good cry, google that term and read the poem.
A really strange dinner for me tonight.....brie on cucumber slices...after doing some late hour grocery shopping that needed to be done. I think the cuke was to make up for all the fat in the brie. Probably a poor choice, but couldn't keep it in the fridge any longer. Lucky DH had a chicken wrap at his business meeting. I should have had him bring me one! Hmmmmm....maybe some popcorn now.
Earlier today I made some olive oil mini cakes with meyer lemon and thyme. Interesting, but I'm not totally sold on them. But let's remember, I am a challenged baker.

joysley - sending a hug - I have been through this too, so very hard to lose them, they are nothing but love.
laurie - yay for a meet-up!0 -
Joysley...It's such an amazing and wonderful thing...how they manage to sneak into our hearts.

Joysley, I lost both of mine one week apart. Such pain, I miss them terribly. Wish I could bring myself to get another one. ((Hugs)) to you.

Joyce, thank you so much for the update on Rick. Tell him that he has a big group of Michelle's friends on this thread who wish him the very best. He sounds like a great guy.
Now for a whiny complaint. My jeans are tight! I MUST lose some weight. Especially with the holidays so close.
Tonight I ate a small bowl of split pea soup that I cooked this morning. And some steamed yellow squash and broccoli. I did melt a little butter in a skillet and did a quick sauté of the veggies to add some flavor.0 -
Joyce, ditto on what Carole said! Much love.0 -
Thank you Joyce, Carole is right, he sounds like a wonderful guy and we wish him the best. And you too, what a good friend you were to Michelle and now Rick.
We've been eating badly lately so last night we had a salad of chopped apples, pears, dried cranberries, toasted pecans, a small amount of bacon, feta cheese and a grilled chicken breast on a bed of romaine. I made a vinaigrette with cider vinegar, shallots and olive oil. Very satisfying and very much a meal. I'm learning toward red beans and rice for tonight.
I'm off to a much needed trip to the gym. Carole, I feel your pain!

OMG Joyce, Thanks for letting us know about Debbie!
Debbie, my sister, Hope you feel better soon!! This respiratory crap that's going around is pretty bad on it's own so sorry that pneumonia had to rear it's ugly head... Let them take good care of you and get you patched up and out of there as soon as possible! Thinking of you and sending prayers for a swift and complete recovery!0 -
Poor Debbie! Times have been so rough for her. Sending you hugs Debbie.
Special K- I would love to try to get together when I am in Florida. I will be there for 12 days...staying with my in laws- oy!
Last night was pot roast as we had soccer and I needed a slow cooker meal to make dinner time work. Tonight will be chicken Parmesan. I am fighting being sick at the moment. At least vitamins seem to be holding it back just enough. Also, at least I am the only one not feeling well. I napped today while DS2 was in pre school. Just me and my kitty- it felt great to crawl back into bed!
Carol- Add me to the list of growing waist lines...I need to start doing sit ups.0 -
laurie - you may need an in-law break - we will have to formulate a plan! Funny - last night was pot roast for us too!
Debbie - feel better fast!0 -
To Michelle's DH and Family,
Those we love remain with us for love itself lives on,
and cherished memories never fade
because a loved one's gone. Those we love can never be more than a thought apart,
for as long as there is memory, they'll live on in the heart.0 -
Get well wishes for Debbie. And thanks Joyce for the information on Rick. It's so nice having our BC family even those most of us have never met in person. I cherish each and everyone of you and pray for you daily.
No cooking dinner tonight, DH left for a hunting trip today and I have just snacked. No appetite and no sleep these last couple of days. In-law family is in an uproar and everyone seems to be mad at someone, maybe not all the same person, just someone....0 -
Get well thoughts going cross country to Debbie.
No cooking today. I started the day out right with a healthy smoothie for breakfast. DH and I went with another couple over to New Orleans to play in a golf tournament. For lunch I had a spinach salad with grilled chicken while everyone else ate heavier fare that was on the menu. DH, on my left, polished off a "Cajun" hamburger and fries. After we all finished playing golf, we gathered in the bar for drinks and heavy h'ordeuvres. At which time my will power collapsed. There were trays of mini muffaletas and trays of little deep-fried crawfish pies with a yummy remoulade sauce. For those of you not fortunate enough to have eaten a muffaleta, it's an Italian sandwich with salami and ham and provolone cheese and olives marinated in olive oil. Salty and delicious. There's a special muffaleta bread but these minis were on little slider buns.
The golf tournament was a freebie event.
So...off to the gym tomorrow morning!0 -
carole - mini muffalettas - I would have been so excited! I love those sandwiches!
I put together a simple salad for the DH, I was not hungry for dinner, he had salad greens, grilled steak pieces, some shredded cheddar, and a "dressing" of salsa with a topping of avocado. It is tasty and pretty lo-cal.0 -
Debbie: Sending wishes for a quick recovery. We'll be thinking of you.
Dinner was actually mid afternoon lunch at PF Changs after going to see Last Vegas w/a friend. Funny movie. Good MooGooGaiPan w/chicken & shrimp.0 -
Debbie: Hope you're feeling better. Take good care of yourself, and get that pneumonia vaccine. I had it about 10 years ago...it's supposed to be a one time thing. Still debating on the flu vaccine, but I read an article in Life Extension Magazine that gave two supplements to take for two weeks before getting the vaccine that is supposed to make it more effective, and also reduces the common cold by 58%. I haven't had a cold in a couple of years so I'm overdue:(
Had steak, baked potato and salad for dinner last night...along with red velvet cake for dessert. Not my usual fare but once in a while I cheat. I had the grass fed version of beef while BF had the regular rib eye....said he had no interest in paying extra for a healthy cow...lol! Another bad eating day this weekend when we go to a football game with tailgating party and food in the suite during the game. One last binge before I head back to Florida and more healthy eating.
Carole: Sounds like you are watching you diet and doing all the good things...great!
Have a great weekend everyone...I'm off for a mani and pedi and hopefully a hair trim if I can find someone to do it on short notice.0 -
Debbie feel better soon! To all much love.0 -
After being sick for over a week, I finally felt like I had at least a bit of an appetite today. For lunch I had a piece of leftover meatloaf and a bit of leftover homemade macaroni and cheese. Doesn't sound like much but it tasted sooooo good to me! Not healthy at all but, sheer comfort... Like a hug on a plate!
Hopefully, I'm rounding the bend (no fever today) and not a moment too soon. My stomach muscles are soooo sore from coughing and sneezing. Haven't been sick with anything in years. Sure didn't miss it...lol0 -

Gotta send my gemini triplets some get well wishes! So glad you are on the upswing, Seaside,...... and Debbie, I am hoping that you are out of ICU and gaining strength and breathing ability pronto!
Clearly the virus season has started. I hope you get well soon too, Laurie. Glad that you could get some rest today while on your own! I have started to volunteer in the CAP program in our town's public schools, and remembered last week that I'd better get a flu shot since I am subjecting myself to the vicissitudes of the public school petri dish! Interestingly, DH's shot bothered him. Mine was barely noticeable....a good trade for protection!
After having a few nights of dinners at local pot luck events, We finally had a real tho not spectacular meal tonight.....teriyaki marinated pork loin, brussells sprouts, garden salad, and a baked potato for DH. I returned home from the gym today right before I prepared dinner, so was 1) not very hungry after exercising for over an hour and 2) more conscious of sticking with my fitness program. I should probably always do the gym in the afternoon when I go, and it may stave off my big dinner tendencies.
I finished PT this week (shoulder doing well, knee not so much...but I probably used up my medicare sessions and it wasn't totally improving greatly, so back to using the compression sleeve when I do more strenuous exercise, while I build up all the supporting muscles, and re-contact my PT in a few weeks). I am determined to avoid the scalpel or even laparoscopic interventions if possible.
I have also gotten DH to join the fitness center I use (I was referred there by my MO) and use our very reasonably priced trainer every other week (we split her time). It is a nice plan for both of us. We are both feeling motivated to get fit, and it does leave me feeling better....especially since starting the CR Melatonin, I am finally getting some better sleep. Yay!
Tomorrow we head to Manchester to celebrate Michelle's remarkable life, and see Rick. It will be so poignant. DH had another serious commitment, but felt he wanted to attend this with me since he also spent time with this remarkable couple, and wanted to support Rick. I'm glad for that. I hope I will connect with some of you sisters there. And I know so many of you will be there in spirit.0 -
Well, I just learned that tomorrow is not Michelle's memorial at all (tamoxifen brain fog rears its ugly head again!), so we will be heading to Manchester on Sunday morning and not tomorrow. Thankfully, Joyce PM'd me to alert me to my error. Whew! Good friend to all! Appreciate it Joyce!0 -
lacey - yay for Joyce! I actually made this mistake once - the adult son of a friend I met at a cancer writing workshop passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack in his sleep. Those of us who had been in the workshop were alerted to this by the person who facilitated it, and she considered us the most bonded of her groups - all of us were cancer survivors. I looked for the obit online, found it, and it said the service would be the following Saturday. So on the day I got ready, drove over, saw a lot of cars in the church parking lot, went in and found a loud and raucous group that was casually dressed with a bunch of tables set up in the common area in front of the doors to the chapel. I must have looked baffled, and a woman asked if I needed help. I said I was there for the memorial service and she happened to know my friend - she smiled and told me it had been the previous weekend! I had not looked at the date of the obit - just the part about it being the following Saturday. Needless to say, I waited a while before I confessed to my friend whose son had passed away, but we laughed about it later! She has a great sense of humor - the title of her presentation was "Two New Jugs for Lynnette" because one of her friends, who was a big handsome former actor, came into the pre-op area before her BMX with two big water jugs and yelled that to everyone - they all cracked up!0
