eric - I think it is a problem with the fuel line, not the engine itself.  This is a brand new engine and there are already issues - so, it is something more complicated.  The problem is that she has to take it in to have it serviced, they always think they have fixed it, but she finds out that it is not fixed at some inopportune moment.  Like when she is out on the water.  By herself.  She is also taking the class for her Captain's license right now, and she can carry a gun unconcealed when she gets it, and she will.  She is working two jobs - about 60 hours a week so does not have much free time to be horsing around with this when she needs to sell this boat.  She is frustrated!

Debris in the fuek tank?  It can clog the fuel line...and after it sits awhile, the clog loosens and the engine will run awhile...until the clog gets 're-packed' by the suction from the engine"s fuel pump...

Thanks for the birthday wishes, all. Had a nice dinner with DH and DS2 at a new seafood place in his area of town. We had fried oysters and shrimp sliders for appetizers. Both excellent.....hardly felt like I was eating a fried food with the oysters....very light. I had Maryland crab cake for entree....a bit light on the "chunk" but very flavorful with a nice relish on top. A side of veggies might have been nice. Butterscotch pudding with crispy puffed wheat sprinkled on top. Quite yummy...and complimentary for the birthday girl!

I woke up yesterday   with a sore throat, and by dinner time, I was feeling pretty awful (head virus on top of allergies), but trundled on.....after all, exact birthday dinners only come once a year! Today barely a voice and definitely a headache, and we are headed down to visit the grands....think I'll ask DH to drive. I know this will pass......

Hope the boat issues resolve, Special. I admire your DD's independence!

I like the sound of Sharon's course, Eric.

    Better get moving.....

    Have a good day, everyone!

Oh Bedo, I feel your pain. I used to get those barometric migraines. Those and the hormonal ones went away with menopause thankfully

Speaking of headaches, a tree cutter is coming this morning to cut down a giant oak next to the house. Victim of the big drougt. I hate it because not only did it provide shade, but the many song birds we get hang out in it on the way to  our feeders. At least the  squirrels will have one fewer hideout.

Don't know what's for dinner. Maybe  the grocery store will inspire me. Dinner inspiration seems to be in short  supply with me right now.

Lacey you are a trooper, feel better!

Must be the day for tree cutting, my neighbor across the street is losing a huge oak today.  Bad planning cause the gal 2 doors down is having a garage sale.... OH Well, as for me, I've had my walk at the lake and came home from the other end of the block to avoid the traffic.

Taking my 86 soon to be 86 year old dad to lunch today for early Father's day- We have a mom & pop restaurant that serves all you can eat walleye on Fridays  and as a fisherman, he thinks this is a must do on Friday.   I am still eating soup and focaccia bread for dinner.  Freezer died on me and still haven't called repair man.....

Lucky you, redheaded, to have a restaurant serving walleye.  Once we get to our summer spot in MN, I'll be able to buy Canadian walleye in the supermarket.  If we were better at fishing, we might catch some in the lake.  I love walleye.

I'm back to counting points today and drinking glasses and glasses of water to flush out the salt.  I couldn't get my wedding ring on this morning.  I pitched, actually "threw out," the leftovers in the refrigerator.  I suspect the reduced-sodium Stovetop I put in the squash casserole wasn't "reduced" enough!  It has been raining today (yep--rained out my golf) but seems to be clearing up.  I plan to make a trip out to buy some fish for dinner.  Probably catfish fillets.  And maybe some broccoli.  I don't feel like driving to Mandeville to Fresh Market to buy salmon and dh would probably prefer the catfish.

I have a small skin cancer on my neck.  The lab report came back positive so I have an apptment Tues. morning to have more flesh cut out.  I knew something was up when the little sore spot didn't heal.

Count me among the walleye lovers!  Carole, glad you're having that spot taken care of. I badly need to see the dermatologist. I'm not having any issues, but I'm a "moley" person and since bc, very paranoid about cancer. Especially now that those of us with spots  are apparently more prone to bc (one more thing that's my fault I guess). Geez I hate cancer.

Still waiting for the axe man. Guess the previous tree didn't come down willingly. I did go grocery shopping and got a little food inspired. Tonight is good ole American -- bratwurst, baked beans and corn on the cob. DH is ecstatic. I picked up a couple of Cornish hens to fix tomorrow. DH requested homemade pizza for dinner on fathers day, so that will be easy. I have some tomatoes I need to use. Maybe I'll roast them for the pizza. I'm going to a new farmers market tomorrow morning, I hope to find some locally grown stuff, especially some spinach, although it's probably getting too warm for it. That should be fun.

The world is lush and green here from all the rain, although it's only in the 70's and totally sunny today. We've never had so many birds at the feeders. Adult birds are now bringing the babies to the feeders which is why we feed in the summer. I discovered a cardinal nest with the female on it in the small maple in the front yard. I'd been seeing them go in and out lately so I suspected one was there. I was surprised to see it at eye level. Lucky me, now I can peek in on the progress! The wren house on the front porch has babies in it. I can hear them cheeping when the parents go in and out. We've had two families of orioles today and numerous singles. A rose breasted grosbeak family too.  I love spring!

Ditto on enjoying the birds, Nance. We have a lot of trees and shrubs for a privacy barrier between us and the house next store, which have grown up nicely over the past five years...and are a haven for our feathered friends. Earlier this week, we heard a variety of birds chirping and singing away, and I went out to look at "all the birds" who were making such a beautiful medley.....I had to laugh at myself  for not figuring this out....it was one mockingbird!!

In NJ now, delighted and exhausted by the antics of the two young grandkids. Trip down was rough with heavy rains, and scary fast moving semi trucks leaving no one behind them any visibility. I felt too lousy to drive, but boy, it is no easy task to "supervise" the DH driver either! ;) In my next life my DH will be more visual than I, so I don't need to "worry" about whether he sees upcoming dangers that I notice immediately. Oy! We made it here! Stayed up til now to say hello to DS1 who has been doing surgery for the past six hours....he's home...I can crash now.

    Good morning all,

Iggy had a crisis yesterday,  started complaining of chest pain and shortness of breath. Had 2 clots they traveled to lungs.

They immediately took him an placed filters in different places near kidneys to not allow any more to travel up. They went in through vein in neck.  Checked legs no other signs of DVT.   Waiting to hear what can be done for chest ones, as he cannot take blood thinners because of the brain surgery.

I am going to sleep for a few, before I go back to hosp. Taking kids to see him.

On the food topic, I got the call as I was about to start cooking....my kids made mahi mahi in the oven, mash potatoes, and Texas toast, plus they finished the cake. And what a mess.

I feel so blessed, that even a kitchen that is gonna take at least 2 hours to clean is ok.

Blessing to all of you. Happy Father's Day Eric and to all others husbands / Dads that you have all shared about here.

Ladies- I got up early and went to Farmer's Market.  I bought baby white turnips, orange beets, and rainbow swiss chard, along with Farm Fresh Eggs and a loaf of Honey cracked Wheat bread.

Now--what do you do with swiss chard?  Never had it.  Girl at farm stand said I do the leaves like spinach, and she suggested I eat the stalks raw like celery.  somehow, I thought you cooked all of it..... Any ideas????

Viv, sending good thoughts to you, Iggy and your family. Love those kids!

Boy, talk about Friday the 13th . . . The tree man showed up yesterday with his crew to take down the giant oak. Well, the tree ended up falling the wrong way and instead of landing in a large open area, landed on our propane tank, one of the apple trees and part of the fence. Propane started leaking out of the tank (we live in the country and propane is the gas that powers our heat producing appliances) with a loud hiss! We frantically called the propane people who rushed out with a guy to try and stop the leak, unsuccessfully.  In addition, the tree knocked the tank off it's moorings. The tank ended up being ok but the valve was smashed open. So then the propane guy had to go back to town to get  a truck to try and pull the tank back on it's moorings and refill it after replacing the valve. We're talking about a 500 gallon tank here. The propane guy gets back and proceeds to drive his big ass truck down the hill toward the tank, even though DH advised against it because of all the rain. He still can't get the leak to stop but finally after lots of clamps and duct tape does. Then as he tries to pull the tank back on it's base, he gets his truck stuck. DH says call a tow truck but instead the group of braniacs decide to try to pull the propane truck out with a chain and pickup truck. Of course, that doesn't work, the chain breaks and in the meantime the ruts in the yard are getting bigger and deeper. DH says call a tow truck, but NO. A fire truck, a volunteer fire guy and two more pickup trucks arrive and they decide that all three pickups are going to pull the propane truck out. (I kept waiting for the clown car to arrive)  Needless to say they broke 2 more straps and chains and probably damaged a truck or two but the propane truck didn't budge (except to make more holes in the yard). FINALLY two hours later they call a tow truck. In the meantime, everybody is running around calling their insurance companies and the tree guy is apologizing all over himself.  Fortunately, he is insured and will pay for everything. The fence section just lost the cross pieces and can be easily repaired or replaced. The apple tree lost a limb and a few branches. The biggest loss is the propane. But the tree is down and nobody got hurt, thankfully. We finally had dinner at 8:30 last night.

Went to the farmers market today. Lots of greens, but no spinach, and things were on the pricey side -- not much different than the grocery store. There were a couple of grass fed beef vendors there but again, very expensive. I was looking for veggies but good to know about the beef. I ended up buying a couple of yellow squash (squash casserole for me too Carole!), bunches  of beets, radishes and rainbow carrots, a fennel bulb, spring onions and something else that I've forgotten.  So along with our Cornish  hens with lemon and  thyme, tonight  we'll have orzo with asparagus and parmesan and roasted vegetables. I'll roast extra for the pizzas tomorrow night.

Happy Father's day Eric and all you dads out there!

Oh my gosh how scary wild Nancy. Geesh those propane tanks. Our houses I think are all elec. on this cul-de-sac but neighbor next door heats pool with propane. I know no commercial gas out here. Guess you have propane hot water plus gen. heating. At least it was a "good" time of year to lose tank, not in dead of winter. I think we could almost shower with our cold water this time of year. Of course with your desc. of the hill it might have been fun to see his big ass truck ice skate down it.

I've made leche quemada for SS party tonight. Caramel candy with walnuts - pecan prices are still crazy even here in pecan country. May go by grocery quickly and get some ice cream - maybe mini BlueBell cups. I was going to make a chocolate pie I think called Derby pie but never got to store to get crust and I am not a piecrust maker even the piecrust sticks confound me. I signed up for dessert along with I think 3 others. It has showered briefly but staying cloudy hoping it keeps temps down for this party tonight. Supposedly lots of outdoorsy games but also board games. Couple lives way out more rural than I do.

Happy father's day Eric and all the other dads represented on here. Just texted DD to remind her to call her Dad. No big plans, he's working. His one wish for father's day - a clean house. Oh how I wish I had Bewitched Samantha's nose wiggle to get it done.

Vivian - hope Iggy is back on the road to recovery.

Redhead - wouldn't know Swiss chard if it bit me in that proverbial anatomy part. Do you use it in quiche like things?

    Nancy that is crazy.

You make swiss chard pie with swiss chard. It's good. You use the stems too.

There are lots of recipes on the web for pie and other things.

I just read that watercress is very very good for you.  Who knew?

I might have to make watercress sandwiches on white bread with butter.  I have turned into my Mother. All I need is to cut them into spades, clubs, etc, get an ivory cigarette holder and start a bridge club.

Red, I used to eat Swiss chard all the time and loved it.  Don't know why I stopped really. You can use it like spinach, but I've always cooked the stems. Have to say I never tried eating them raw.  Farmers market had some really beautiful chard wth colored stems.

Rainbow chard - I love it because it's so pretty - tastes just the same, but it's kind of a feast for the eyes.  :)  Yesterday we made smoked salmon chowder and cornbread for dinner.  Opened a bottle of Viognier to go with it.  Wonderful dinner.

Ditto on the beauty of rainbow chard! I have sauteed it like spinach, but more recently just love putting it in my smoothies...after enjoying looking at it!

Today we went to a family restaurant on the way to a park for the grandkids (after I fortified myself with a few motrin tablets, which worked great for the sore throat and headache:). Our lunch was a potpourri of appetizers and entrees which included fried calamari, arugula and mushroom flatbread, margherita flatbread, caesar salad, fish tacos, white bean hummus with (very fresh) pita bread, and a vegetarian club sandwich which was interesting, if not finishable due to the apps. We took things home...

Rode a fun carousel at the park and then spent a hair raising hour at this great (very busy) kiddie playground where it took all four of us adults to keep track of "our" two kids! What a fun place for kids and, unfortunately, kidnap prone pedophiles! On a positive note, the grands had a delightful time pushing their gross motor skills to the limit.

After our return home, the grands presented me with a happy birthday balloon, cake, and gift. The sweetest part, of course was hearing their little voices belting out "Happy Birthday Dear Nana".

Tonight after the kids were settled, we ordered a very late dinner from a nearby Spanish restaurant...a double order of seafood paella, and gazpacho. Both were delicious!  This was a big food day compared to my usual fare. Good thing we walked the local hills this morning.

Tomorrow, DDIL's parents return (they live here for childcare during the week) along with some other family members,  and we will be having a Father's Day barbecue and pool party. I always marvel at DDIL's ability to regularly entertain, attend to her extremely active kids, and run her busy medical practice. I get exhausted just watching!

So tomorrow will be Persian marinated chicken kabobs, lamb burgers (my idea), salads and Father's Day cake. This month I will have eaten more cake than I have had in the past two years!

Viv, I'm rooting for Iggy to make a quick recovery!

It certainly made for an interesting day lol!

Just saw the cutest thing out  the window, a very young still spotted fawn  racing around the garden area, just really kicking up it's heels a  like a colt. Mom was watching on from the edge of the garden. This is the second time we've seen them. I'm sure she's teaching him  all the best things to eat in the garden. It's Wild Kingdom here!

I'm going to make a pain de mie today. This one is made with oats and honey. Probably too sweet for  me, but we'll see.

Viv, hope iggy is on the mend.

I adore gazpacho but DH is a non-tomato lover, so I never make it at home. I have a favorite recipe for it as I grew up eating it made from ingredients from our garden. I have ordered it in restaurants but always end up comparing it to my fave.

  • Lacey12
    Lacey12 Posts: 2,895

Special, I agree....it is very hard to find a gazpacho as good as one's own. I have a recipe I have honed to just way we like it, too...and last night's was a close second! Unfortunately, my overly sensitive "virus mouth" didn't totally appreciate all that spice like I usually would.

Things have livened up here now that DS1 is back from rounds,  live-in GPs have returned from a quick trip North, DDIL us back from the food store, and rest of the extended family about to arrive. I just finished making the lamb burger patties and condiments, after grand sitting for a couple of hours....and never washed my face nor got to my exercises. Now I remember clearly why I always carried that extra weight while raising my kids. One never gets out of the kitchen! ;)

As of an hour ago, DS2 and his FIL got the pool perfectly warmed and cleared of pine needles, and started swimming with the kids while "us women" busied ourselves with kitchen prep. Suddenly, we hear baby Ava announce from the pool that she has a poopy diaper. Yep! And her live-in grandmother who doesn't worry about details had neglected to put her in a swimmy diaper. Hmmmmm. I may sit this one out....with everyone else!

Off to at least get my face washed!

Happy Father's Day to everyone who lives in that role, and of course, especially to you, Eric!

thread fell off my board again. Sigh.

Viv, Hoping that the clots are easily handled. You certainly have your hands full. Your kids are stepping up to the plate (no pun intended). You have to be proud.

    Happy Birthday to the triples!

Happy Father's Day to all the Dads, you too Eric.

And a Hug to those whose Fathers are no longer with us.

Nance, The tree story will be told every time my DH tries to take down a tree on our property! LOL.  Maybe that will prevent one of our own stories! LOL.  I'm glad everyone is safe. Although the yard is a , um, bit messed up....oh and the flower boxes look lovely!

Lacey, your hands are quite full. NOT as full as the Grand baby's diaper though! LOL
