Lacey, tamoxifen is a very different drug, I would give one of the other AIs a try. With your exercise program, I doubt you would experience the same problems. Like others, the amount of joint pain I have is directly related to how much exercise I get. Mine is aggravated by arthritis, but on the whole, I find letrozole annoying,  but tolerable.

More comfort food tonight -- chicken and "slicks"!

    Love the Roo.

    Dinner tonight is Shepard's Pie.

She is so sweet - she is blind so must be hand fed, and she is so tiny and adorable I wanted to put her in the car and bring her home with me.

I can definitely appreciate the urge to roo nap that little cutie, Special! :)

Thanks for your supportive info, AI taking sisters!  I am just so worried about ruining my qol, which I have worked so hard to improve over the past year and a half...with some success. But I feel like the arthritic joint issues are always on a banana peel as far as becoming intolerably painful, and at this point have been able to avoid shoulder and/ or knee surgery.  Just don't want to go there.....      You are right, the threads are full of bad side effect stories....I wish there was a thread where people reported success.....e.g., no bad joint pain, no weight gain, no cog fog, no vag dryness/infections, UTIs, skin issues, allergies, moodiness, etc. I know I am asking too much, but am beset with worry about further reduced physical and mental functioning.  Nancy, I admire your continuing to cook and bake so much with arthritic hands. I feel like crying from the pain some days.....and that was true even when I took celebrex.

Anyway, it all seems like a big crap shoot.....since we don't know if any of those renegade cells are lurking anywhere, to know how important it is to follow this regimen.   Also, Carole, I assume since you take benedryl for sleep that it is safe with the AIs unlike the contraindication with Tamox I've read about. Congratulations on completing your AI years. :)

Think I'll take a long walk and admire the northern foliage to try to clear my head. Again, I so appreciate your support!

Oh, another good distraction....., I just saw Lidia B. make a corn walnut cake on a PBS channel. Looked really interesting, but I couldn't find the recipe on her web site...will research further. Yum!

    Pat,

My seven years of aromasin were not without their trials. But, it was never bad enough to stop. For me, bone pain was my primary complaint. Strangest thing I have ever felt. I didn't gain weight at all, but taking my weight off was not happening. Then again,  I am not as determined as you have been. Moving always made the bone pain less. Can't speak to brain fogginess. Was it the chemo? Was it the AI? Was it just being shell shocked? Obviously, it didn't work for me, but that is a different thread.

oh... and the first 18 months were the hardest part. Everything kind of equalized after that. Of course, that was right after all the chemo and rads, so who knows what was causing what.

Power of suggestion. I had CREATE.tv going last night as I pushed some data and they did a chili. Well, you know what I had to make today, right? It was like Super Bowl Sunday in the kitchen as this huge pot of chili cooked. And, surprise, it was pretty darn good! Of course, I modified the recipe to up the heat and flavor. Mr. 02143 thinks this is the best chili I have ever made, so I need to make some notations so I can make it again!

Lots left for the freezer. This winter will require some fast suppers.

Susan so glad it was a beautiful and wonderful day for you. Congrats to your DD and her new DH!  And I'm watching Lydia on Create today too. It's a marathon. She's been on all day but I just watched her now.

Special Thx for the roo pic!

My AI is Arimidex.  I've been on 2 years. The biggest is my trigger finger. It's gone from a nuisance to a pain. Quite literally.  Once it locks I need to use my other hand to pry it open. It hurts when I'm not using it. Also I think it's a part of my low magnesium problem. But if everyone of them has issues, then I should stay with the one I know. I thought the trigger finger was nothing until lately when I can't grab a strainer or twist a can opener without it locking and prying it open again. But sleeping is pretty good so maybe it's just a bother and not a problem.  Sigh. LOL life.

Tonight was scalloped potato and squash with ham cubes. Um. I love putting butternut squash with the potatoes.  The flavor is so good.

    Much love.

Thanks for your AI input, Susan and Moon. Decisions, decisions.....    And I am particularly perturbed to think that for all of your seven years on it, you didn't get the benefit, Susan. #€%!&#!!

Glad you are able to sleep, Moon!  The trigger finger thing is just so odd. I already get that sometimes now. Looks/feels like a horror movie posture! I have invested in all sorts of interesting (and useful!) contraptions to open cans and jars, which keep me cooking. :)

Yesterday, we had a good long walk to a local organic farm stand, then to the lake, where the color is pretty, if not brilliant. Then for dinner, we ordered pizza, or I should say, DH did......and he snuck in an order of crabcakes as well. I didn't mind. Pretty amazing that this local joint has decent pizza and crabcakes! I made an arugula salad to accompany mains.

Today is DH's absolute favorite day on our beach! The forty-something guys do a lobster fest......steamers, king crab legs, two lb. lobsters, and corn. We are slated to have bright sun all day long, so the forecasted 60 degrees should feel fine. And I'll bet someone rigs up a TV feed and screen so no one misses the Patriots' game while chowing down.

Susan, I envy your chili stocked freezer.....way ahead of the game (so to speak!).

    Thinking leftovers today!

  • Lacey, I would love to join that lobster fest on the beach!  What a treat!

Moon, the trigger finger sounds like a major inconvenience not to mention the pain.

Dinner last night was individual 10 in. pizzas from a local Italian place, Isabella's.  I had the spinach pizza with herb oil sauce, tomatoes, feta cheese and mozzarella.  It was delicious.  The crust was good, crunchy on the bottom, but wouldn't have passed the test for those who insist on a paper thin crispy crust.  DH had the Isabella Suprema which had pepperoni, ground meat, Italian sausage, onion, peppers, cheese, and tomato sauce.  He likes the traditional tomato sauce on his pizza and almost insists on Italian sausage.  I prefer the veggie pizzas (minus onions) with olive oil and fresh chopped tomatoes.

Tonight's dinner will probably be take-out again, maybe from a burger place.  DH and I will again be working all day at the Madisonville Wooden Boat Show in the Woodworkers Guild tent.  Children line up at the tent to make their own little wooden boat out of many parts that the woodworkers, including dh, make during the year.  They can make a sailboat, fishing boat type, or a gunboat.  You should see some of the boats!  The men assemble the parts the children select.  Spouses assist the kids in picking out sails from a wide spectrum of colors, tie down the sails, write the name on the bow, etc.  There is a huge tub of water outside the tent where the boats can be floated.  It's fun but a tiring day.  The boats are free but the parents are generous in putting money in the donation jars.

Just thought of a wedding story that I should share. The groom's mother has two sisters. One of the sisters, the oldest, had never been to our house before and since they all arrived 30 minutes early en masse, they had plenty of time to meander around the first floor of the house. So the oldest aunt, D., sidled up beside me while I was in the kitchen doing something, and asked "Your pantry. Can I take pictures of your pantry? it is one of the most beautiful rooms I have ever seen." And then she did. A whole series of pantry photos which I will probably never see.

Makes the hour of time I spent making the pantry look organized and well-ordered completely worth it!

Lacey, that would be my favorite day on the beach too!  Arthritis and the AI means I can no longer knead bread dough but rely on my mixer. My knife skills are still ok so far and opening lids and jars are out of the question.

    Carole, the pizzas sound wonderful!

Susan, please take pictures of your pantry to show us!

Food and Wine informs me that it's Gumbo Day, so that's what it shall be, along with a baguette. Last night I tried my hand at bear claws, although not with my own dough (frozen puff pastry). Still pretty darn good. Next time I'll make my own.

Auntie, those bear claws look delicious!

Susan, nice looking  Pantry? Oh oh. Does that mean I have to clean mine? I'm having the Christmas Progressive Party - dessert part at my home. One more thing to do. Sigh. LOL

Carole that's sounds like a wonderful day. Even if it's busy. I'm glad the weather cooperated!

Lacey, I'd be over in a minute!  Lobster and crabs are some of my favorite things.  Expensive around here though.

I do have one of those electric jar openers though. It works well.i have a couple of gadgets to. Those were all I used to need but I use the jar opener when needed as DH is never home..except for the fact I don't cook much and so don't even open jars too often. LOL. As for the trigger finger, it is like everything else, it comes and goes with some days better than others. But when it comes back it kinda takes me by surprise.  LOL I have a Tea ball that you squeeze to open. That one sets it off every time. I'm trying to teach myself to use my left hand. LOL.

  • Pictures of the pantry!  Please, please!

Moon, you sound so good-natured.  Your complaints never sound like complaints!

Nance, what kind of gumbo did you make?

OMG, Nancy, that pic has me salivating!

Carole, your day sounds like a lot of fun....but yes, with all that kid and competitive energy, fatigue would be a likely by product!

Our lobster fest this afternoon was wonderful!

I have to say, that as this lake  neighborhood has turned over, (we've been here for 27 years) we have gained the most lovely families, who are fun and community spirited...and their kids are just delightful. One of the guys is in the food business, and he started this lobster fest four years ago, and everyone (especially my DH!) has such a wonderful time...to say nothing of the satiation factor! Today there were a number of extra lobsters, and plenty of king crab legs, so we all went home, after lots of fun socializing, with our tummies quite full!

So DH and I took a rigorous walk afterwards, then came home and did some catch up Netflix viewing. We Are now caught up with The Knick (a dark, early 20th century NY hospital story).

With all this "pantry pressure" I'm feeling happy we converted ours into a breakfast area (needed to...no place to eat in the kitchen!) when we moved into our home 35 years ago. But I am dying to see your pix, Susan. :)

I think we are going to watch The Tuscan Sun, which I don't recall liking when it came out, but might now for the scenery.  Does this read "escapist"? ;)

Special - I can't remember if I added my felicitations for your Birthday.  So hope it was happy.

Susan - you have had good reason to be distracted.  I'm amazed by your energy.

First play of my Stages season here was Marie Antoinette by David Adjmi. NY premier was last season.  Very interesting to consider the parallels in that society of 1789 and now.  0.5% were priests; 1.5% were noblemen and 98% was the commoners - the rest of the 23 million people in France.  Clearly highlignts t the "us" and "them".  She didn't really say "let them eat cake", but it's such a good line. And this is a food thread LOL.

Had a lovely dinner at an upscale Asian restaurant after - Cafe Ginger.  I had their special Lo Main - shrimp, pork & chicken.  And I ate every bite!!!  Now my tummy is sorry but it was worth it.

susan & minus - thanks for the b-day wishes!  I am a low-key birthday person, so didn't go all out.  We went for Mexican food at a good restaurant close by, but by the time we got there I was feeling a bit sub-par so didn't actually eat.  My DD and DH got me some balloons and flowers, and an extra large red velvet cupcake.  I am not so much of a red velvet cupcake girl but I threw myself on the altar of self-sacrifice and ate it, lol!  More sugar than I have eaten in the last year put together!  The day after we went to see the roos, which was fun.  I also got to see the gators and was even more relieved that the DD got to work with the roos instead!!!

    auntie - awesome bear claws!

eric - wow on the hike!  And great pic!

susan - you get a pass, no need to feel embarrassed - you were the MOB for goodness sake!  And you cooked!  And organized your pantry!  And did all the other stuff you do!  Not self absorbed - damn, woman you're just BUSY!!!!!

Here is a daily roo.  He is getting a good scratch from the DD:

Eric, so impressive! Thank you for the encouragement...and thanks to Sharon!

OK....when your schedule calms down, Susan, I am all for lunch from the famous pantry! And how about this wild idea......any of you sistas who are willing to sprout wings or wheels coming to "the bean"....I will pick you up and put you up and we will converge on "the pantry"....if that works for you, Susan....no pressure. Ha!  Wouldn't that be fun! And we might arrange to meet our "founder" Laurie and JoyceK if they are free.  Seriously, I can put up four folks.

Yes, Nancy, we are caught up on The Knick, and it is way dark!

Special, glad you were able to get that red velvet cupcake down.....equalizes your no sugar year! ;)

Another sweet roo pic. And love the relaxed roo legs in the background....;)

lacey - yes, I was surprised I didn't collapse after the cupcake, lol!  Those kangaroos have achieved a blissful state of relaxation bordering on unconsciousness - they don't even really open their eyes all the way - they look squinty and a little bit drunk much of the time.  It is pretty amusing and I found that it relaxed me too, DH also - it was quite enjoyable to visit with them.
