Kay,
Hope you enjoyed your time at the shore!! So cool that you got to meet up with ChrissyB!
Debbie,
Sounds like you had a blast on your trip!! Good to have you back! I have a tendency to get sick every time I fly! All it takes is for one person to be ill! Hope you feel better soon....
zumbagirl,
Had never heard of sea foam candy before.... Sounds soooooo good!0 -
Apple - yikes, I can feel the frigid KC wind now! Everyone thinks that Kansas City doesn't get much winter, but it can be nasty. How sweet of tht elderly man!
We are in for a rude awakening once the NH winter settles in...I'm used to walking out the door to the car in the heated garage. Umm, no garage here and we'll have to trudge through whatever Mother Nature dishes up to get up the stairs to the car in the driveway that holds 8 cars (therefore capable of holding lots of snow). DH and I were having this discussion today. I said I needed a new winter coat, a raincoat, and winter boots. He poo-poo'd the idea and said he thought his leather jacket would be enough for snow shoveling. I'm writing this here so I can remind him in December or January...lol! He said he was going to wear t-shirts and shorts all winter. Not sure about this "hearty" California surfer boy turned New Englander...I seem to remember buying him cozy slippers last winter because his feet got cold while sitting in his office...in a house with the heat set on 72! Methinks he is the one with chemo brain!

That's funny Michelle, it sounds like my sons. My oldest got through our Philly winters with just a warm hoodie. We have gotten killed with snow in recent winters. Several snow storms of over 20 inches in the last couple of years. He made it through with sneakers and some warm hoodies. He also pretty much got through with shorts. He started grad school in Minnesota last year. Apparently, their winters are much worse. He bought a coat, hat, scarf, gloves, boots, high socks, the works! LOL I bet you DH will be sorry if he waits until the selection is limited.

Thanks Seaside, had a great time down the shore.
Still recovering from the DIEP, so just had tuna fish for dinner tonight.

son #2 doesn't wear a coat... he loves the snow and sometimes (even tho he looks like me) i doubt if he is mine.

Handsome young man, Apple!
I just read this and had to share...those of you with ripening tomatoes coming faster than you can use up - did you know you can freeze them whole? Just put a dozen or so in a gallon freezer bag and pop them in the freezer. And oh, this guy suggests using a straw to suck the air out of the bag - no fancy vacuum sealer required. When you want to use them (soups, sauces or stews), just take out what you need, run them under hot water and rub off the skin. Let them warm up a bit then chop them and add to your dish. They will have the consistency of canned tomatoes without all the work. Good idea if you have spare freezer space!

I hate when I read through the day and then finally get a minute to type at night. I know I am going to leave someone out!
Apple- LOL at your comment earlier about how your son's eat. And LOVE the picture of your son with the sun glasses. Very cute!
Michelle- I can't wait to see what your DH does this winter. Thanks for the tip on the tomatoes too! What a great idea.
Kay I hope you keep feeling better from your surgery.
Debbie0 I hope you're feeling ok. I don't fly often, once every three years or so and I always get sick from it to:( I hope you're resting up!
Seaside- I hope the flooding isn't too bad, and that the earth is kind enough to absorb enough to spare everyone.
I also loved everyones feel good foods tonight. We had pork chops and gravy with mashed potatoes and zucchini. I am also nuts enough that we adopted two kittens that I picked up last night. A friend saw them get dumped on the side of the road and I was a sucker:)! So....things have been busy, they are very tiny and super cute, we are guessing they are only about 6 weeks old, one is twice the size as the other, so I am guessing the smaller is the runt- I LOVE runts ;P I should add my son who will be 4 in October named them today. Their names are Tiger and Coffee. lol.

BLT toasted for suppa tonight. Didn't feel like cooking. I try to visit my Dad in assisted living at least 2 to 3 times a week, so when I do visit him I get home around 7:30. So I just don't like to eat a large meal at that time.
The tomatoes are from my garden, the yellow ones did pretty good but the red ones where far and few between. Between the gopher and the blight I only got to harvest about 6. So I ended up have the BLT with yellow tomatoes.
Hugs to all♥

deborye- LOVE a good BLT. I believe you have inspired me to go pick up some bacon before the week is over!

We are having BLTs tomorrow for lunch, unless I get ambitious and make them for breakfast!
Laurie - you are nuts, especially with everything you've been through in the last month! But they are cute and that picture of your son with the kittens is precious!

MIchelle- I know I am nuts. But in the last three years I have lost three cats, one was 17, the other 19 and this last one six weeks ago was 13 and got very sick and died very fast. So I had no cats! Then a friend tells me how she saw a car stop on the side of the road by her house, someone got out, put something on the ground it was these two! After all the stress of the past month, the kids on a daily basis, everything, I needed some new life. I just sat on the floor and played with them for over half an hour, my whole house is asleep. So yes I am nuts- but when we call ourslevs "Club Chaos" what's a little more?0

Michelle- You crack me up, Your DH sounds like a riot. Great tip on the tomatoes, i have thrown out tomatoes before i had a chance to use them, I will def start freezing them.

I have to admit I miss having a dog...we had a rescue dog (like a soft coated wheaten terrier) for many, many years and he was such a love! Our lease here doesn't allow for pets, so I get my fix from my daughter's bischon/shih tzu mix. We actually bought him in Missouri as a birthday present for her and then delivered him to her in NH. My DH was afraid that if we kept him until we saw her (which would have been a few weeks later) I would never give up the dog and we'd have to buy another one, Probably true! So we drove 3000 miles over 5 days...LOL! He thinks it was a good investment!

Laurie, that picture is adorable! Your son is so precious. The kittens are cute as well. Reminds me of my aunt. She was NOT an animal person of any kind. Hated dogs, cats everything. Nothing bugged her more than someone walking a coach with a baby and also a dog and having people stop and say how cute the dog was with no mention of the baby. Same for pics. I am an animal lover. More of a dog person than cats, but your kittens are really cute. Good luck with them.
Seaside, so sorry, I must have missed the stories of flooding. Hope things are getting better. All this rain is just so unprecedented here. I wish it would stop.
Thanks everyone for the good wishes on recovery. I am doing well. Occupation therapist is coming again today. Hopefully I'll get the range of motion in my arm so I can start rads in two and a half weeks.
Have a good one everybody!

Kay - I have a quqestion for you...is this the order of things for your treatment - surgery, chemo, then DIEP then radiation? I thought I'd have to wait until after rads to have the rest of my reconstruction. Maybe not??? I'd for sure try to have DIEP first if that can be done.
PM me if you'd rather not discuss here.
Thanks so much!
Michelle

No, I had neoadjuvant chemo (no surgery first), then the MX with the DIEP, then will be doing the radiation. I wish I had asked the PS more about it, but I didn't. Not sure if waiting on the DIEP and getting that done after MX instead of at the same time would have any better outcome probabilities than getting the immediate. Judging by some of the comments saying that the diep is having some issues on previously radiated skin, I guess they both can have issues. I know there is the possibility radiation will have some kind of negative impact on the DIEP. From talking to the RO and the PS, the chance of it being more than just an effect of the shade of the skin, is pretty small. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Last night was ramen noodle soup. Tonight probably pasta with ricotta cheese. I know I should eat more protein but I just don't have the energy.

Thanks, Kay! I guess my meeting with the PS next Tuesday is more timely than I realized. I've had the BMX and have expanders. If I could have phase 1 of DIEP in November, I would be ecstatic! Ok, that assumes that I qualify.

reubens.. yum

Apple- double yum! Love a good reuben.
Tonight is seafood. Nothing different or exciting. Hope everyone had a good day though. We are enjoying the kittens. They are getting used to us and hanging out more. My youngest loses interest quickly and leaves them alone and my older has become a mother hen, which I love!
Zumba- Nacho's are something I always crave, but hardly ever make at home. Hope yours were delish!

Leftover chx cordon blu with a hollandaise sauce, i made it differently this time, in a food processor it was so easy and good- Put 3 eggs in the processor (or blender) 1/4 tsp of dijon mustard 1/4 tsp salt, pinch of pepper, 2 tbls of lemon juice- in a pan melt 8 tbls of butter (1 stick) until bubbly- turn on processor and mix egg yolk mix for 30 seconds then slowly drip in butter it will get thick as processor is running taste for extra seasonings- Can double this is you need more. Also had a pinch of cayenne and or tabasco
Michelle- How are you feeling? Have you got some energy back yet? Thinking of you!
0 -
Debbie - the hollandaise sauce sounds yummy, I am going to have to try it...I love eggs benedict but have never tried making it at home. I think I can do it!
And thanks, I am feeling OK, not exactly the most energetic but not too bad. I did a couple loads of laundry and a little picking up, but it's just us so it's not that bad. And I raised a little hell on my discussion boards and Facebook...lol.
I need to get the house ready for the birthday part on Saturday. It's not going to rain and it's going to be in the mid-70's so we will be party-central. We are getting one of those outdoor fireplace pits so that we can have s'mores instead of birthday cake. And it will probably get cool in the early evening, the party is not starting until 3. So we'll enjoy the fire and it will remind us of our camping days.
DH just went to get a pizza...I looked at the menu. I'm a pizza purist (mozzarella and pepperoni are requirements) - not so sure how I feel about having a "mozzarella/cheddar" blend. Should be interesting - I'll let you all know.

Ohhh, and how could I forget...I booked a trip for DH and I to Delray Beach in Florida! We'll be there the same time as Joycek and her DH, so the guys can play golf and we can pretend to be woeful golf widows, while we sit on the beach, relax, read and sip umbrella drinks!

Michelle- Glad you are able to get some stuff done, yeah i seen it on FB and agreed with you LOL! Who's BD is it Yours? When i make pizza at home i always add cheddar with the mozz i like it.
Wow I just saw on the news how bad the flooding is getting in NY and surrounding areas, hope you all are safe- Seaside i know you said you were on a hill, are you still out of danger?

Just getting in from the Foxwoods trip, no gambling done, too busy with the work....I am now an official expert on chicken, pig and pet foods AAACK... this is all my husbands work, not mine, I am a nurse and think I will stay a nurse. At one point while drinking some nice wine i actually had to walk away due to the" exciting" conversation about what chickens need to win big at the state fair. Oh well, they pay for our room at the hotel for 2 nights and meals for three days. Every meal (except breakfast) had 3 dif meats and fish for the entree and then all the sides, and a whole table just for deserts. One night we had open bar in the penthouse suite....I was the only female amongst all male salesmen.....too bad i only have 1 1/2 boobs I could have done some dancing for them!!! LOL
Michelle...I had the deip followed by radiation and still need the nipple and tatoo done and maybe some lipo but the PS wont touch me for 6mo post rads until my skin has totally healed.
I love the pics of the children...sooo cute!
On the flood issue..driving home thruway exits near Albany were closed. We were very lucky as they were thinking of closing the thruway...the water was right up to the road and in some parts we were down to one lane. A lot of homes under water...what a mess.
Debbie that hollandaise sounds so easy, we love eggs benedict but always have to go out for it as i never could make the sauce. i will give it a try.

No flooding in my immediate area, we are high enough plus they can control the lake level. My neighbor told me they lowered it a foot before the Irene rains. Not sure if they lowered it for Lee, but we got way more rain this week. No flooding right around here. The Boston news showed some roads totally flooded and cars trying to drive through it. One little lady had to be rescued - the water was up to her waist in the car. Her car was totaled. I always wonder why people try to venture into water like that. If it got really bad here, we could get in our inflatable boat...LOL!
Not my BD, mine is in April. My grandson's 8th BD was 8/28 and that's the day Irene hit, so we postponed the party. He has his "friends" party Sunday morning, then the family party will be here later in the afternoon. The good news is that it's starting late, and will be over early because it's a school night. I'm guessing they'll all be out of here no later than 7:30.
The pizza was OK. Actually, the sauce and toppings were pretty good but we didn't like the crust. It seemed as though the yeast didn't work right and so it lacked that nice yeasty texture and flavor. We'll probably give them a second chance, and they deliver! DH went to get this one, but it's always nice to have a halfway decent pizza shop that delivers!
