This is a re-post of what I posted in the Stop Smoking thread.... Just didn't have the energy to re-type!

We here in the southern tier of NY have had, over the last day or so, been just DEVASTATED by flooding! We have had over 7 inches of rain over. 24 hour period and all of the creeks and rivers are overflowing! This has been declared a 500 year flood event and the national guard has been called in! This area went through a similar flood in 2006 and this has exceeded that! Many of the same people who lost everything back then, have lost everything again! My heart just aches for everyone...

We live on a hill and my family is OK... Some of my daughter's friends families who live in the country and have no power (and therefore no water) have come here to shower and eat and a couple of the girls will be sleeping here rather than at a shelter...

The photos we have seen so far, are heart-breaking!! I am just happy that we are in a position to help others, rather than requiring help!

Please, if you can, say a prayer for all affected by this! The need here in the coming weeks/months will be HUGE!

    Love you all!

    Seaside- ((((((((praying)))))))))))

Carberry- Glad you are home safe and had a good time, i have a weak stomach, i dont know why people feel the need to talk gross stuff while eating, i would of walked away too. Funny on the would of danced for them had you had 2 boobs LOL! I just fake it! Ha!  Oh, and the key to making this in the blender or prossecor is making sure the butter is hot and bubbly! Good luck!

Michelle- I do remember now that it was postponed, I thought i was going to have to bake you a cake LOL!

Deb=I love popovers how do you make yours?

Seaside - (((hugs)))  Flooding out here is so bad because no one typically has flood insurance.  I think these areas have suffered two "500 year" floods in the past three weeks!

Carberry - too bad you didn't have time for a little frivolity!

Deborye - my DH loves popovers, too.  They are pretty easy to make, as I recall.

what is really good... a great Bernaise sauce on steak.. something i wouldn't normally eat.

Just add fresh taragon to the Hollandaise.. maybe a bit more pepper.

Mmmm....I think the best sauce I ever had on a steak was a pink peppercorn sauce.  It was a little restaurant near Westport, CT and about 20 years ago.  It resembled something like this:

Steak Tenderloin in Pink Peppercorn Sauce

Carberry, thanks for your story on the DIEP and radiation.  I was getting nervous with some of the warnings people were giving on the DIEP thread.  Especially coming from a nurse.

MIchelle, enjoy your vacay with Joyce K!  I made a rhyme, lol.  I am so jealous.  We won't be getting away until my daughter's spring break.  Going to Williamsburg, VA then.  Unless my big bro invites us to use his shore house again, but unlikely we'll be able to now that school is started back up.

That steak is making me hungry too.

Seaside, so sorry to hear about the flooding.  We have had worse flooding around here the other day than with Irene.  I just can't believe all the rain we've had.  But it's really more of just an inconvenience, just some roads are unpassable.  There are a few people whose homes are flooded, but fortunately it is only a few.  I'm sure there's lots that have to bail out their basements though.  Thinking of you and those in your area.

We ate Dominos pizza tonight. I got a cheese one, veggie one, and a bacon chicken ranch. The best one was the veggie, and really the only one I could taste, since my mouth is still coated , and not tasting too well yet.

This morning I am making some beef barley soup.  We saw a dear friend last evening that is going through chemo and rads for lung cancer and he is not feeling very good, could only sit and talk with us for a short time and then had to go home.  My memory of the chemo days are still very fresh in my mind, so today I will take him some soup.

Duckyb1 that is so great about your grand daughter marrying...enjoy.

Zumbagirl  I was at the store collecting alll my ingredients to make pizza and decided to go with a veggie one...it is my favorite...but the DH will have to suffer with no pepperoni. That was one of the worst SE for me is losing my taste,  but i am making up for it now! LOL

apple- Your posts always make me smile :D

carberry- hope your soup turned out good! I'm sure it is very appreciated.

Zumba- I haven't had a Dominos pizza in forever, I heard they changed it.   Is it better?

Tonight I had a ton of pepper from my fathers garden so for the first time ever I made stuffed peppers- with no recipe, with my SIL and her husband over for dinner.  There wasn't one bite left!  I was super proud of myself!

Sorry for the quick post but I hope everyone had a great day!

Bedo - {{{hugs}}} sorry that anastrozole is so bothersome.

We had a beautiful afternoon - the weather was perfect for the birthday party.  It started to get cool around 5:00 so we stoked up a fire and everyone enjoyed s'mores.  And then there was this:

My son with my mom.  She was cold and he was taking care of her.  Priceless!

But oh, I am tired.  Gonna just relax tomorrow.  I had thoughts of going to the beach, but it's not going to be warm enough.  I'll probably go on Monday.

Thanks, everyone!  And that pictures tells all - it's why I can never say no to a family gathering at my home, no matter how tired I am.  You never know what precious memories may be created.

My son is not really that big - he's maybe 5'9" but he's gotten a little "pouchy"..lol.  My mom is tiny - maybe a little over 5'.  My son does, however, have a ginormous ego and in the past, he's has been very self-centered.  But since my diagnosis, he has done a 180 turnaround.  Even my DH has commented on it (he's his stepson) and told him how proud he is that he calls, visits, makes an effort to make plans with us to go out to dinner, just basically paying attention to his mom.  He'll be 40 on October 1st.  I think he's finally growing up!

And speaking of his turning 40, his SO is planning a surprise birthday party for 9/26 and it's a 70's theme, with dressing the theme required.  I am playing the cancer card on DH.  I told him we are going as Sonny & Cher (well, he'll be the tall one, of course) and he cannot refuse me.  And there will be karaoke and I've always wanted to sing "I've Got You Babe" with DH and he is required to grant me this one!  LOL!  I need to find HIM a Sonny wig!  Yep, there will be pictures!

This is the recipe I use.

    Ingredients

1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted, plus more for greasing tin
    1 cup all-purpose flour
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    3 large eggs
    1 1/4 cups milk
    Directions

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Lightly grease and flour a popover tin.

In a large bowl, whisk together flour and salt. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, and 1 tablespoon melted butter. Pour over flour mixture, and fold until just blended.

Fill the popover cups two-thirds to three-quarters full.

Transfer tin to oven, and bake for 15 minutes. Reduce the temperature to 350 degrees, and bake until well browned and crusty, about 20 minutes. Remove popovers from the oven, and unmold onto a rack. Puncture the sides with a sharp knife to let steam escape, and serve immediately.

Joyce- I think your dinner sounds pretty good.  I agree with 9/11, we are watching now as well and it still just terrifies me.

On 9/09 my mother had a suspicious area on her lung that they wanted to biopsy, but couldn't get her in for two weeks.  (she lived in Connecticut at the time.) On 9/11 they had so many cancellations they called my mother and she accepted the new appointment and went in at 7 am on 9/12.  I kept thinking of the people who had cancelled out of fear.  I was in my early twenties and terrified to drive to Conn, on my own to support her.  But couldn't not go- I cried almost the whole 2 1/2 hours.  For everyone, the sadness of it all, the fear, all of it.  Then I would think, imagine how much worse so many other people feel right now?  The way I felt is hard to express.

Well, it is 9pm, and I have not had dinner.  We were busy today trying to work on getting things back together since the lightning, it's never ending.  We took the boys down to the river behind our house to throw rocks and it was so high, we left quickly.  It was moving too fast for such little guys to be near.  I was thinking of making grilled cheese and tomato soup, but nor sure if I even have that effort left in me for today.  It may be peanut butter an jelly.

Seaside- how are things going your way? Are you ok?

We went for Chinese food at JoyceK's favorite little place.  DH decided that he didn't want anything in the fridge, didn't want to cook anything, and that the Chinese food we had earlier in the week didn't count!  So off we went, and we were on our way back about the time Joyce and her DH were eating their strawberries!  And the food was light years' better than the gross stuff from the other day.  Joyce - do you know what was in that location before it became Green Tea?  We lived in Litchfield and we are sure we've been there (25 years ago!) but the Green Tea opened up 23 years ago.  That's a long time!

I am going to the beach tomorrow, yes I am!  All by myself!  Me, my chair and my Kindle!

Seaside - hope things are going OK out your way.  Hopefully you can check in soon.
