Geesh Ladies!  Enough about the food already.  Chevy- Just face it, we are the only ones who know how to eat right.  And the fugugly bra - glad it is not me that has to wear that thing. Yes, this is After Rads and we are talking about after rads stuff.  I don't see anyone comparing notes on rads treatment.  I, for one do not want to relive that nightmare.

Oh GD - By the way - whack whack.  hehehe

granny - I know we should not tease you so much about your bra but we really love you girlfriend.  As for the diet, I know that part really sucks.  The bra is temporary - the diet is not.  Cereal and fat free milk is one of my favorite meals.  I don't use real sugar but do use salt and I am trying hard to cut back on that.  Like you always say - and the beat goes on!

GD-My LE is not gone...it has significantly decreased, but I don't suppose it will ever be gone completely, I will just learn how to control it to a certain degree so I can keep being active.  Most of the swelling was in my chest, so that makes a big difference on how quickly it decreases too (at least that was how I understood it)

My PT has been an LE therapist for the last 17 years...he is pretty much known as the "godfather" of LE therapy here in Oklahoma and is highly respected for what he has done for so many people here in Oklahoma.  In fact, when he was first certified, he was taking patients from Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Texas and a few other states, because he was one of the only LE therapists around until about 10 years ago.  Most of the therapy he uses was used in Germany before it came here to the states.  He heard about it many years ago and got in touch with the wife of the man that taught it, and was actually trained by him.  He is so intelligent, and yet a very gentle man who just wants his patients to get better...He videotapes what I need to do each night to keep things under control...I watch it and do it before going to bed... all seems to be going well, so I'm just hoping it continues...

It's been a loooooong weekend, so I'm heading to bed girls...

    Sleep well all...

Morning gals!  Okay Kantalope ....(tinker-toy)....I just sent you the recipe by email.  Don't use Anchovies!  That was a joke, Ha!  Besides, if you say you can't eat salt, you would fall over in a dead faint with those!  You don't need the bouillon either!  I just do that for added flavor!  If you have ever eaten "Pho"....that is a Thai noodle bowl, and it is sooooooooo very good!  I bought the Pho bouillon cubes at an Asian market here... I KNOW you would like that....with or without meat.

Jo!  Don't work too hard!  I only work around here, ha!  Been retired for 12 years now...Now I have enough time to garden and do stuff I like to do!  Maybe I found something that Kantalope will actually like, with that Congee?  Ha!

And Kantalope, I think you have to make sure you DO have Lymphedema, before you treat yourself as having it.  If you have Edema...that is different.  And I think the two are supposed to be treated differently.  http://www.massageandbodywork.com/Articles/DecJan2005/edema.html

This is an article that explains "fluid" buildup.  Whichever one you have, it's still water retention underneath your skin.  See if this helps.   I just know Lymphedema, like these gals have is more painful...There are threads on this forum that talk about this....

    http://community.breastcancer.org/forum/64   Okay....check these out!

Have a great day gals! xoxoxxoxoxo

Chevyboy - Good Morning.  You gotta keep Kantalope straight with the ingredients for the Congee.  She is obsessing over the salt thing - I've told her about that.  Please remind her she needs to relax and breath.

    Have a great day ladies!

Someone said we should talk about after rads...well my post rad boobie is still a bit pink and the nipple is larger than the other one and when I get cold, the non rad nipple shrivels like normal, but the rad nipple doesn't shrivel as much, it just looks like it's gone to sleep. Not sure if that will change. The swelling has gone way down so size wize I'm looking more balanced. Girls, I think I'm getting better! Hurray!!!

Hope you have a wonderful day!!!

Update on the breast LE. It IS LE and she manually massaged the lymph nodes and man oh man...night and day. The boob is down to almost normal and the hardness is gone. She showed me how to do it and I am confident I can keep it down. So glad I went.

yes, and the rad boob also feels different, not as soft as the other one, but not too bad, maybe that will get better with time. My RO said it could get "tougher" feeling, so I guess whatever happens happens. Anyway, I do feel it's healing! Hope the same for all my rad friends. ~Beans

Okay, OKAY!!!  She gets mad if we don't mention "Rads".....So the lumpectomy boob is smalller now, than my other one!  And while I had the Seroma, they were the same....but now my bra pushes them together, & it hooks mostly towards the "good" boob!  (Not in the center)  But do I care?  Nope!   No-one is going to see me in my bra....Ha!  Just thought I would mention that, because it DID happen after Rads!   RADS!!!!  rads.....AFTER RADS!!!  SHeesh!

BEANS!!!  Yes, the Congee is so good!  You can add to your brown rice, anything you want!  It is very good even without any meat...but I added cooked chicken breast.  You can also serve it with an egg.  Scramble one little egg, then slowly drizzle it into simmering congee, stirring with a fork, & it will "set" while you are doing it...Just like making egg-drop soup.  We had a little side-dish with breakfast....They serve it ANYtime in Viet-Nam, & Thailand.   Okay, Quack?  I think you mean WHACK!  Gotcha!  Hah!

Jo....We need to have Kantalope take a Valium or something....Wink   We need to somehow cheer her up!  After all, we all have great news today, right?   I know we hate to hear of people losing their life, but it couldn't have happened to a more deserving  DH....and that doesn't mean Dear Husband!!!!   It must bring back so many memories for the people closely involved....I just hope it's "over"......

Hi Sherry!   My boobs haven't heard the word perky since I was 65!  Ha, ha!   But that's the first thing that comes off, is my bra, when I come home!   If you are over 65, your little nipples start heading South, if you know what I mean!   And no, I'm not including a picture of THAT!!!!

Well back from Rads..........no winning lottery scratch off today, but that's ok...........Went to the LE specialist.........She confirmed I do have the beginning stages of LE.........She also said it was good that I was so quick to notice the slight change in the size of my arm.

I will be going for therapy, which she explained completely, what I would do and what would happen.......She did say that this is "lifetime"...........How I take care of it will determine the degree to which it gets better or worse.  Very nice person and really knew her stuff, however because only Medicare pays for her, I have to go to another facility associated with my hospital for treatment......Close, not far from my house, but would have preferred to stay with her.....I will be seeing an LE specialist at the new place too.

She also confirmed the main things for avoiding LE, and Cellulitis if you have LE, and what you should be doing with regard to the arm on your surgery side............

    No BP in that arm

    No blood draws

Gloves when gardening to avoid cuts, and if you get cut use alchol, peroxide, and wash good...also put on an anti-bacterial ointment, and cover....

That was it............nothing else.........use your arm as you normally would, no restriction on repeditive movement like, scrubbing, cleaning, dusting, and she said sometmes using it is better then not.........So, the first things I told you about are fact, the rest are not necessary.

Hope this puts to rest the LE thing, and use of your arm, or arms after surgery.........

Chevyboy - I understand this is an After Rads thread but do we always have to talk about rads?  Doesn't life go on after rads?  We do more with our lives, don't we? I don't even think about rads - I am not having any problems post rads. Heck, right now, I am so hungry, I am sitting here thinking about what I am going to make for dinner.  Does that count?  I know, I am just trying to stir up Kantalope.  hehehe

I'm not going to "Whack" you Ducky!  Just a soft hug instead.  You know, before my surgery, a gal came in to talk to me, about Lymphedema...& I thought "Okay, now I know what to expect"..  But I guess no matter when we had our surgery, we can still get it?  I had mine Jan. 4th, 2010....so that's why I just feel like everything is going as well as I can expect it.

But, I AM wearing garden gloves now!  Wink  And I scrub my hands after I do EVERYthing...!  I'll also get out my gloves for washing dishes, etc.  We have never had a dishwasher, so we are it!  I don't take hot showers anyway.  I saw the Lymphedema site on this forum, and I read what the gals are going through, and also how to prevent it!  So thanks Ducky, for making me more aware of it!

I have always had Edema in one of my ankles..... But since I stopped taking Tamoxifen, I notice that I no longer have that!  Well, I mean just a tiny bit.  But I don't have to take any water pills.

When my Dad had congestive heart failure, his legs were so swollen, and even drained....I used to rub salve on them....They had such a hard time regulating his blood...either too thin, or too thick.

So okay.....Holy cow Jo, don't go gettin' Kantalope all riled up!  As long as we mention "Rads"  I think we are alright!  She thinks we get "off track".....but that's okay....I have been off track all my life!  Sealed  I worked in my garden today, transplanting strawberry plants!  And laying stones for a walk-way!  (I wore gloves too!)  I think we need a snack!

Chevyboy - Thanks for the snack - that looks yummy.  Wait till Kantalope sees this.  She does not think we eat healthy enough.  I know I have been off track all my life - seems more interesting that way.  Speaking of Kantalope, where has she been hiding anyway?

This is what I am making for dinner tonight.

No, she's probably still in bed...Wink  And your dinner looks deLISHious!!  We are having a little fried Italian sausage patty, and baked egg rolls and Congee....  I know it sounds funny, but we don't eat much at night anymore.... So we fix just what we want.

Sherry - Like I said in an earlier post, I try my darnest not to think about rads and that horrible experience.  For me that is looking back over my shoulder, I just want to look forward and see what is in store for tomorrow.  With the unexpected departure of our assistant managers, I really had to adapt Sandee's 24 hour rule.  This is not the first time this has happened to us, it is harder this time as I don't have the mental or physical energy it takes to bounce back and train another couple to help out.

I just re read what I wrote and I sound just pitiful - but that is the way I feel right now - ain't gonna deny it.
