Sandee so glad you had a clear mammo

Granny good luck, keep us posted.

As for the vitamin D my MO put me on it and says it needs to be between 60-85 for good heart health.  Mine was on the low side of normal and I was taking 2000IU's daily but could not get it to come up so I went to 5000 IU's daily and it finally came up to 72 so now MO has me back on 2000 IU's daily to see if I can maintain it.  Will see him in a couple of weeks so we shall see.

Hey guys - I have a question.  I'm 15 months post-lumpectomy, right breast, and almost 10 months out from radiation - no other treatment since.  I've had fatigue & depression the last 9 months with no exercise (read couch potato).  Now today I have an ache under my right breast - feels like it's around the ribs.  It kinda comes & goes & hasn't gotten worse but hasn't gone away....  Anyone have any similar aches?

    Thanks, Martha

mostlymom, Sorry about the pain under your right breast. If it were me, I would call my MO or RO and tell them about it. It is always better to be safe about these things. I certainly hope it is nothing serious. I can relate to the post treatment fatigue and depression. Those unwelcome visitors have followed me around since I finished rads at the end of August. Sending hugs to you.

I have a question too.  I am 3 mos post radiation and my breast has been itchy.  Seams mostly around the incision site which has healed perfectly (my surgeon is the best).  Any comments on this?

Mostly mom: fatigue and depression are normal but would suggest if you could at least walk around the house once a day - your mood and fatigue will get better.. don't be a couch potato too long.. the moving will make things better, believe me - I was a royal couch potato... One step one day at a time.. About the ribs.. I do have pain under my right breast, (after finding out I also am with granny, I have breast lymphedema, the LE therapist was given permission to work on my scar tissue), I had a big knot under there that is scarring from rads.. Do tell your RO and see if you can get a better response than, "Its normal, it will get better", ask him how it will get better and what you can do for it... Praying for you!

Kingjr: itchy is also normal, when things are healing they will itch.. I have found certain clothes, laundry detergents, and trying on new clothes that aren't washed will all make my breast itchier... Your skin will be more sensitive after rads, so you have to use your creams, use non drying soaps on your skin. I use dove sensitive, unscented.

king - I'm 2 years post surgery and still get itchy, a bit around the nipple but mostly at the incision sites.  Not as bad as it was at first, but still can almost drive me nuts at times.

mostly mom-is it just achy or more painful?  definitely get it checked out--it could be shingles and you need tx. asap.  My shingles started uder my breast and it started with pain at the breastbone and under the breast.

thanks for all your suggestions - they kept me from panicking.  i have an appt next week with my RO & will have it checked out.  the pain lessened & is almost gone today.  tomorrow is our county's relay for life & i hope to make it for the survivors lap with my daughter who's a 13-yr bc survivor.

i had shingles a few years ago - showed up july 4th - started with a pain behind my left shoulder blade then ran down the left side of my left arm to my pinkie & ring finger - then the blisters started forming.  took a long time to clear up.

getting old is bad enough without all these other problems!  Yell

on the bright side, we just celebrated our golden wedding anniversary the 24th.  Laughing

Congrats, mostly mom, and happy anniversary!! glad your pain is better.  Having had shingles, I'm sure you could recognize it if you started tocome dow with it.  The pain is definitely unmistakable.

I am not taking tamoxophin but I have extreme hearing loss in my left ear.  My breast cancer was in my left breast.  I'm thinking that the hearing loss is the delayed result of radiation.  Any knowledge of this?

Does everyone know you can get shingles over and over again?

Does everyone know there is a shot that you will never get it again?

Trudybs---my friend lost her hearing in both ears from the tamox....very unusual but it can happen.

Ladies, I posted on this before (and took the posts down when I thought they were outdated). But I just have to share again:

If you are in Michigan or near or can get here from where you are, there is a totally awesome program here: Grass Lakes Sanctuary Women's Wellness Retreats.

They offer FREE three day retreats for women after they have finished treatments where you are pampered, massaged, given all kinds of different healing tools, fed gourmet healthy food, can swim, walk in the woods, meet other women.

I just got back from my own experience there and I am CHANGED! Cancer breaks us and then we have to go on as if it never did that. This place is run by grants by professionals, by people who give, ALL of them volunteering. It offers women ways to let the experiences release from us so we can heal our hearts and lives on the deepest levels.

I am a woman with many tools in my toolbox, but this was outstanding help that I needed. It was just so much kindness and so healing and so much FUN!

    Check it out.

PS AND there are STILL OPENINGS FOR THIS SUMMER in July and August retreats!!!

Truebff:  That retreat sounds wonderful.  I will check it out.  Do you have to be totally done with treatments?  I will be getting Herceptin until March 2012 but I would love to go the end of this summer.

tc, google them for the website: Grass  Lakes Sancuary Women's Wellness Retreats.

I think it's okay to still be on ongoing meds, but they want you to be over radiation and chemo and surgery as this is all about the after it is all over time to heal you time.

It will be worth it even if the timing comes at a different time. It was just brilliant, it was so good.

Hi everyone! Missed you all bunches!!!!!!!!!! Work has been soooooo crazy that if I told you all what's been happening you would swear I was telling you a made up story.....maybe I should write it down, make a tv movie, hmmmm....anyway....

On the vitamin D, I didn't know the difference on dosages, I just grabbed that one and I really feel a difference when I miss a dose.  My last lab was 30 down 30 points from before cancer.  My sister's is always under 5 and she's a school teacher = outside plenty for D.  Her doc says not everyone absorbs it correctly, even if you are outside a lot.  I have a lab with family doctor next week, will see what level it is.

On the eye doctor - all through treatment I saw my eye doctor A LOT!  I've been in contacts since I was 12, and boy did I have heck wearing them for about a year.  My eyes are very dry now too.  When I take out the lens I have a bunch of gunk in my eyes.  Never in all these years has that happened before - surely can't be a coincidence.

Pain after radiation, a year later - yep. My seroma that filled up my lumpectomy site hurts like hell during my period.  Seems all my bloating now every month finds its way to the right side of my body only....ouchie.

Regarding vitamin D, I read this excellent article about the best times to be outside for vitamin D absorption.  Just because the sun is out does not necessarily mean you can absorb vitamin D from it.  This was good info for me although I still take a 4000 IU supplement.  Be well ladies.

GMA - It has been quiet here.  I am doing great and hope you are as well.  I can't believe it - for the next 4 weeks I have not one doctor appt on my calendar - Yeah!  Then I have my recon revision.  This will be done as an office procedure so no hospital stay for me.

    Hi All,

I have a question. What exactly is the radiologist looking for when she examins us? Lumps, radiation problems?
