Fairweather, welcome. Teka I am also a big fan of Big Bang Theory!

I didn't even know there was an American Idol thread. I will look for it this next season for sure.

    Teka,

I took a quick look for the American Idol thread but did not find it, have to admit I probably one of the 5 people in America that does not watch that show lol. However I am happy to report that I went into the closet, so to speak, and got rid of a bag full of old pillow cases, tiny dance of joy!!

I forgot to have my DS take the decorations out of the attic while he was here for Thanksgiving, so now I have to wait until this weekend for him to come back as he doesn't have time during the week.  The last thing I need is either one of us getting up on the ladder and falling!

I finally got my app't with my PCP at Cleveland Clinic for my pre op before surgery.  That was more difficult than scheduling the surgery for my bc!  I had to turn into a real bitch and play the big "C" card to get any action because I was getting the runaround about no app'ts available.  This was precisely why I didn't go there for my diagnosis!  I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.  It isn't the first time I've had problems and this was the last straw.  I'm getting a new PCP.

Sorry for my rant...thanks for listening.  Have a wonderful day everyone!

Kaara, rant on.  I also have no problems jumping ship when it comes to doctors.  Find a good one, great, but other than that they are disposable as they all go to med school, graduate and pass their boards.  Yes, some may be a tad better than others but, and this is JMHO, they for the most part are probably equal in ability (yes, taking into consideration experience).  You have to feel totally comfortable and stressing out is not good.

This weekend will pull out the Christmas decorations, many of which have not been used in years, and keep a few (I don't decorate nearly as much as before) and give away/donate the rest.

Because we packed to move to WA after I had my surgery the person who packed us packed ALL of the Christmas stuff. I betcha I will be able to pass on at least 75% of the ornaments and trims. Part of the boxes have been brought into the dining room. Now to get started.

Teka the pillow cases caught my eye, I have a new sewing book on reusing pillow cases. I think they mostly mean old embroidered ones no one ever used because they were, "saving" them.  Good for you on getting some gone from your house.

I need to go through my closet. I am in a climate now where summer clothing is almost never worn and my hheaviest layering pieces aren't necessary either.  I'll have to do some thinking on this one. Hugs all Ginger

Kaara, I got a new PCP and am SOOOO pleased.  My stress levels decreased 1000% when I have an appointment instead of increasing and raising my BP into hypertension range!  Well worth the effort to change.

Teka what a great idea.... I just bought the pillow protectors ~ love my pillow so will keep it. But new sheets sounds divine.

Is anyone else getting tons of junk mail recently??? I've got a huge stack started and need to shred. YIKES. There must be 5 sent with return labels for me. What will I do with so many return labels .... I barely write a letter.

I think there is a way to delist yourself. I give to various charities and I have to think that some of them have shared my name because I am getting mail from similar charities. I don't even read that mail or usually even open the envelope because it is sad. I give over the internet to charities that I know. I really don't want them to spend their precious money on a mailing to me.

Same here....once you give, then all the charities approach you which is ok, because if I don't feel it is something I want to contribute to, I just throw it in the recycle bin.  Now I get it at the grocery store in the checkout line.  How many times do they want an extra dollar from me for charity...every time I go through!  I tell them I will give the extra dollar if they will match it with one that I just gave them for the groceries...hummm.....they don't know what to say to that!

Weekend starts now.... I'm going to wrap some gifts so I don't get into a panic when it's a couple days before Christmas. My usual MO.

OK...DS came and took the decorations out of the attic, so no more excuses, time to start the decorating process.  I'm keeping it simple this year!

samsue:  I have a new gift wrapping method that I've used for four plus years.  I go to the dollar store and buy the gift bags (cards too) and put the presents in those.  They are reusable and I don't feel like I'm killing a forest with gift paper.  My DD does one better....she uses grocery bags!  What can I say, she's practical.  Of course my DS's don't like it because they used to bring all of their gifts over on the day of the exchange and use my paper to wrap!  They are now SOL!

Kaara - I've started using the nice, sturdy shopping bags from stores (the ones that are similar to gift bags) and cutting designs from wrapping paper to paste over the store logo. I even used one of the pink-striped Victoria's Secret bags actually as wrapping paper by cutting it up. Fit perfectly to wrap a book.

My de-cluttering efforts have unfortunately been derailed by kindness. Time to put away the cards and find new homes or uses for the gift baskets (I'll probably donate them to the annual fundraiser the college I work at has so they can use them for auction baskets). Then there are the TONS of plastic containers that came with all the food I had brought over by friends. We always tease my Mom about her 'plastic' closet, where when you open it up, all these plastic containers fall out (I guess everyone has one of those). I've prided myself on finding ways to stack and organize them and clean the out occasionally. Now they've multiplied and I'm going to have to winnow them down. Sigh... At least nowadays many are recyclable.

Have a great weekend, ladies. I haven't chimed in recently, but I read frequently and you are a good inspiration for me!

Kaara, I bought a roll of meat packing paper and used it last year for gift wrap... drew my own pictures on the outside. It is probably what I'll do again this year. I bought the paper so the GK's could have something to draw on while visiting. The whole roll cost less than 7.00 and there is tons left. My artwork isn't the best but it kinda reminds you of some kid in 1st grade....  fun though.

I have really big bags I bought at last year's end of season sale that I'll transport the gifts in... I don't usually buy anything really big anymore since they have gift cards. I recently went into Best Buy to find some kind of game for SIL and ended up leaving because it was so totally confusing. Bought a gift card instead. Cool

samsue:  Gift cards are the best!  I never know what to get the GK's except those fuzzy socks and flannel pj bottoms, so gift cards it is this year!  I always get DD and DIL's an Xmas ornament to hang on their trees.  They look forward to it each year.  It is usually from somewhere we've travelled, but if that doesn't work, I head to Pier One.

While looking to take out the bin with Christmas ornaments put other stuff into the back of the car and will drop them off at Goodwill in the next few days.  Never did get to the bin though so hopefully will get to it tomorrow and be able to declutter more stuff out.

Teka, the tree took less than 10 minutes to put up, and DH says it is the best looking fake tree we have ever had!!!!  Laughing  Now, if I could just get the rest of the house looking as good in as short a time....

I have craft projects in progress and tubs of yarn, When I lost my job in3/2010 I used up yarn making baby blankets for the catholic charity nearby. I organized it and put patterns with it.

I lost 50 pounds from last year until now so my friends go to a tiny southern Gospel church and in my area many folks are out of work or living on welfare...they cannot afford good will or other thrifts so I took my designer clothes, coats and sweaters to them. I have cleaned out one area at a time and extra school stuff, new hand made hats and scarfs.

I have more to go in a couple weeks. It just never ends!

anumacha:  That was a really nice thing to do!  When I was working I used to donate my good suits and other things to Women in Distress because many of the women had to leave their homes with just the clothes on their backs, and never went back out of fear.  I always try to pay it forward.

Getting started on the tree today...don't know why, but I'm just not in the Xmas spirit yet.   We went to a holiday ball last night and I thought it would kick in, but no.  My boyfriend hates it when I decorate early, and even he is asking..."what about the tree?"

DD is having her little Thanksgiving dinner this afternoon.  My DGS was at his fathers on the actual day, so she is doing a special one for him.  He just loves holidays with the family, and when he's at his dads, they usually go out to eat.  It will be a fun day, and I can relax, except for cleaning up behind DD, which I don't mind.

Welcome to all the "cleaner outers and straighten uppers/sorter outers" This is a fun, ie... great place to get enthusiasm for what you intend to do and what has been accomplished. We give praise to even moving yesterday's mail to the trash recycle.

Today, plan to put up the small artificial tree in lieu of the bigger on since I'll be on the road the week after Christmas. Hoping to be a new GM by then!

Teka - Apartment update. They gave me a 6-month lease without any of the extra charges. But having 6 more months to get cleaned up will be a good thing. Maybe in the midst of chemo brain, I'll really forget why I saved all this junk in the first place and just trash it!

Thanks Teka.  Not really so much focused as just get on a roll and have todo it while in motion.  If I stop then it's difficult to get started again.  Just went online and setup for a pickup by Lupus Foundation on Friday so now have to get stuff together to go.  Scheduling it forces you to do it.

Tree is up....standing in the corner by itself with no decorations yet, but progress is being made.  We were at DD's all day yesterday, so I actually have an excuse, and dr. app't this morning, yet another excuse.  Probably will start on it this evening, but if I don't, there's always tomorrow.

Today my cleaning lady didn't show up!  What's this all about.  I thought people needed work...she came once, did a great job, and I haven't seen or heard from her since.  It was too good to be true, but I will call her and see if we got our signals crossed somehow.  I had already clecked cleaning house off my to do list forever!

Off to my pre op app't.  New doctor so don't know what to expect.  Have a great day everyone.

FINALLY...tree is decorated as well as most of the house.  It felt like a chore instead of fun like it used to be!  Dr. took me off my hormones about two weeks ago, and now I think it's  beginning to kick in.  My energy is not as good as it was before, in spite of my diet and juicing.

Fortunately, cleaning lady showed up today, or I would have had to tackle that task before going to surgery next Monday.

New doctor was a breath of fresh air, a woman, very caring and comforting.  I'm going to ask to switch to her permanently for my PCP.  The pre op tests went quickly and I was out by noon.

Next couple of days are going to be spent doing Xmas shopping that I won't be able to do after surgery.  That usually gets me in the spirit!

    Have a nice evening everyone!

Hi Kaara, keep up that positive spirit.  It will take you through the next few days and surgery.  Hugs swarming about you.
