Thanks for the nice thoughts Patoo and Teka!

What a day I had...went up to visit my DGD (2 years)  in W. Palm Beach about 50 miles from my home.  Took her to see Santa at the Mall...she wasn't thrilled:(  I was afraid of Santa too, so I understood.  We finally got her to sit for a photo.  In the middle of all this,  my PCP's office called and said they couldn't clear me for surgery because there was a problem with my EKG and could I come back in?  Well, I'm 50 miles away and it's 3:00 PM in the afternoon on Friday!  I had this pre op thing done on Monday so if there was a problem why didn't they call me before?  Cleveland Clinic has an office in W. Palm as luck would have it, so I was told to go over there to see a cardiologist.  It was my slow heartbeat that triggered the recall...have had it for years and it presents no problems....unless it shows up on an EKG, and this time it did.  The cardiologist checked me over and then cleared me finally for the surgery...Yea!  It was soooo stressfull going through this at the last minute.  If I didn't have a heart attack then, I never will!  Home now and exhausted from it all, so I am going to use the rest of the weekend to chill.  Hurry up Monday!

3jaysmom - Wow! Congratulations. I really envy all of you here for your persistence. I've let things slip as my recovery moved along. But Mom's coming back to help me for chemo on Tuesday, so I need to tidy up again. My 'big' accomplishment was tossing out the 2006 year planner I still had hanging around... yes, that's how bad it is. My excuse is that I held on to it to cull the phone numbers I had jotted down as possible contacts (I was a reporter at that time meeting some pretty high-up people in the industry I was covering). But I'm not anymore and most likely will never need to reach them, and if I do... that's what press spokespeople are for. So out it went. Sounds pathetic, but I do look at it as an accompishment. I'll find a few other scattered things in the next few days to toss.

Regifting doesn't bother me...as long as it's something I need; otherwise, I'll regift it the next year...lol!  The adults in our family don't exchange gifts anymore, we do a white elephant exchange which is some crazy thing you have around the house that you don't want anymore...wrap it up and bring it.  We draw numbers and every gets to choose a gift to open in numerical order.  It's fun and cuts down on the expense of buying gifts for everyone.  I usually have it at my house, but this year I'm passing because I'm recovering from surgery and don't want the hassel.  Maybe DD will volunteer her home!

Kaara, that sounds like a fun party... I'm thinking an ugly sweater party would be fun too, along with the usual festive beverages and eats.

Oh, and how are you doing since your surgery?

samsue:  It really is fun...DD said she would take it on this year...we'll do it on Xmas day.  Ugly sweater would be fun....I'm thinking I will look for one for the white elephant gift.  We have a flea market here that probably sells them cheap!  Guaranteed to come back year after year!  Right now there is an ugly doll that keeps reappearing.

I'm doing great after surgery...no more tylenol even...but still waiting for the final pathology report which was due today and didn't come through.  I hate this waiting...it truly sucks.

At work we had a white elephant that involved in stealing one anothers gifts. I would up with a game where one picked the provided nose. No typo.  I regifted it to one of my sons as a joke but it didn't go over to big being from Mom!

Not to belabor this white elephant thing, but it's even more fun when the person who picks a gift and opens it has the right to take anyone else's gift and give them their's if they don't like what they picked.

We used to do this at work too, and one of the funniest gifts was an anotomical doll (had all the sex organs on display) opened by my prudish assistant!  The room was howling with laughter and she turned beet red!  She did keep the doll however.

3jaysmom,Kaara,Teka:  I have an ugly sweater that I ADORE. It is knitted with a christmas tree on one side and a nutcracker on the other. I was so excited the year I could finally afford one.! It is about 18 years old. I thought it would be an investment that I could use every year. My daughters tell me it's ugly so now I don't wear it. I want to know, why do all these people call them ugly now?

They are only "ugly" if you listen to the media who has decided to make an issue of this (slow news day I call it) and use up 15 mnutes of TV time talking about it!  I'm sorry I gave all mine away!

I like Christmas and other holiday sweaters. So there naysayers, decoration is a good thing and a wonderful thing on sweaters and sweatshirts where they can be a personal expression of holiday cheer!  Smile

Love Ginger, who at 66 is close to being able to ignore convention with impunity.

good jobs ladies! Teka, thanks for keeping this thread going... Last year I cleared out 60% of my Christmas decorations, and this year has been soo nice! Much easier to decorate, and I expect the cleanup and putaway will be much easier than in the past.

"Ugly" Christmas sweaters have been "in" for a couple years now - the college kids got on the bandwagon...   My thinking is that if it makes you feel good, go for it!

These days, I'm decluttering my wardrobe - if it's boring, it's gone. I am done with being too practical.

I gave away practically all of my old (like new) clothes to my DIL who needs them for her job.  I'm now going with comfy lightweight things that pack easily and do not need dry cleaning or ironing.  The best thing is they are made of stretchy material and when I lost weight they went down with me!  Chico's is my favorite store right now.

Sometimes I get rid of things too quickly and wish later I had them back...like my nice St. John outfit that I had for special occasions when I was working, that would fit me again if only I hadn't given it away to my DIL.  Guess I could always borrow it back if I really wanted to!

Finally got back into a real bra today and it feels fine.  Don't know how long you're supposed to wait after surgery to make the switch from sports to real, but I'm over a week, so thought it was ok.

Have a fun day everyone!  I'm going shopping...window shopping that is!

Happy holidays, all. I've been lurking but dealing with my first week post chemo tx 1. None of the really 'bad' side effects - but two trips to the ER Monday for 1) low red blood count (I was ashen), and 2) low wbc (temp of 100.5). Sigh... When does this ride really end???

However, I'm checking in because I am about to spend half an hour tidying up. I've let things deteriorate as I got ready for chemo and then last week, so after coming back to this thread, I am determined to make things presentable again. Thanks for the ongoing motivation.

ThreeJays I have also saved things my boys didn't want! My DD, the youngest, has the good sense to recognize momentoes worth saving and I am so glad. I have a set of silver that is just for her when the time comes. I bought some holiday china that was produced around 1890 to use just on holidays. It is white and has gold painted on the borders some of which are ornament designs. I bought it piece by pice knowing it would only be used rarely and would look so pretty shining out of the china cabinet. I gave away my old china to a charity.

The boys didn't want any of the things I had saved for them except their baby, school and college papers and year books. I was able to give my silver from my first marriage to my #3DIL and haven't seen it since. With the price of silver today maybe I should have sold it.  The boys didn't have anything in their aprtments that wasn't new. My first apartment was filled with used furniture and an old TV and a record player. I sound like an old foggy don't I? I was actually happy to have those used pieces. I was proud someone wanted to give the furniture to us. Changing times.

Now I must get three boxes that moved here with us last year out of my house. They have various lotions and things in them that I didn't pack and haven't looked at yet. Why am I procrastinating on this! They must all be expired by now and obviously I haven''t needed them. Oh grrrr at me.

I have a lot of cosmetics, hair conditioner, shampoos, hair sprays, lotions, creams,...that have parabens in them.  I have thrown a lot away, I still have new stuff. It is amazing how much stuff came out of my cabinets.  What are you ladies doing with your stuff that are not "safe" for ER+ ???.

I thought that stuff was only dangerous if it was heated, like in the microwave. I am obviously missing something here, welcome information please.

i don't use them.. we donated any new stuff to a place here, that gives them in bags, to the homeless. they appreciate them, parabens, and all.. i just can't throw good usable stuff away!

two more boxes going in the morning.. im really kinda worked up about getting this place "lighter" i couldn't even move in here, for the 3 yrs we've been here, with all the bc tx, and now, hypo.. i want a simple life style, and that begins with me, and my house...

there will be a lot after the holidays, though, so we're in it for the long run.. we STILL are paying for a storage unit, also!!!arrgh.. a day at a time. we'll get there.. but it WON't be tommorrow!!!..3jays

My new holistic doctor gave me a website to go on to check out all my cosmetics to see if they were safe...pretty sure they aren't!  I use Aveeda products on my hair which is supposed to be made from plant extracts, so we'll see.  He said I shouldn't color my hair...WHAT!  I might have to draw the line on that one!  I have absolutely no idea what my true haircolor is anymore, and I don't think I want to know!

Cleaning lady coming again today...Yea!  Tonight we will go over to my boyfriend's DS's home to do our gift exchange with them.  His other DS and family are here from Vail, so we'll enjoy them as well.

Kaara, my MO told me I could color my hair as soon as it came in last spring.  She didn't say anything about any specific ingredients being off-limits.  She is generally pretty good about paying attention to anything that adds risk with current meds or disease status, so I am using an ammonia-free color.
