I decided to treat myself to an Oreck upright vacuum.   Special discount deal on QVC.   The old one was like pushing an armored car... and I almost prayed it would konk out one day soon.     The new one is nothing short of fantastic.

Too hot to do anything except stay inside and keep cool.  And I am one of the lucky ones who did not lose electricity.

3Jays,  I had bought my mom a bright red walker with every accessory I could find. I even bought a big oldsqueezie  bulb horn for it but my husband said the nursing home would kill me if I put it on, so I didn't.  Anyhow you got a hug bargain on that walker. Good shopping!

I think I have company coming the end of the week so I will be motivated to do something this week.

Have a good fourth, it is always so nice to come here and get motivated once again. Our baby steps really do add up.

    Hugs Ginger

FDIL is coming tomorrow to help me pack away stuff in my sewing room so DH can build some shelves.  Once they are in, we will unpack the stuff and put it AWAY.  I will take the opportunity to get rid of stuff as well.  Looking forward to this.

Well, when I arrived home one day with the lumber in my car, he caught on.  He also asked that I not start the project without him.  He knows if he delays, I will.  Off to start the porject!

The shelves are up, they still need the trim put on them.

    BEFORE:

    AFTER:

What you didn't see in the before was the piles of boxes and stuff all over the flor.  I was too embarrassed to potograph it that way!  I had to go back and buy more shelving yesterday, and now the unit on the right has more shelves in the lower half.

Thanks, I really like that it is now looking more like a sewing room than a room where I sew.  I can't wait until I get the guest room cleaned up now.

It is a real accomplishment.  I can actually get in there and now reorganized the closet in there.  So much to do, so little time...

Meece: WOW ! Thanks for sharing the picture.  It's really an incentive to work on my sewing room. The shelves are fantastic.  You can enjoy sewing and your new room both!

Meece,  I want to change my spare bedroom into a sewing room. My daughter has moved out and I want to sew more. I have oodles and oodles of fabric, thread and trim as well as accessories ie. scissors, rotary cutters and etc. I'm so jealous of your room.  I sew on the kitchen table.

                l.  How do you store your fabric?  How do you store your accessories?

               2.  What kind of sewing machine do you have and how do you store it?

               3.  How did hubby make the shelves and what kind of wood did you use?

First, I have a chest of drawers in the closet that holds small pieces of fabric for quilting, and some drawer have specific types of fabrics.  I also have one of those hanging shoe organizers which holds larger pieces of fabric, which I have separated by color.

I have a Husquvarna (I think it is a Saphire).  I purchased this sewing machine cabinet, I think from Arrow (The pic isn't of mine).

I went to Home Depot and bought the wood that has holes for the shelf brackets already drilled.

It is pressedwood coated in Melamine.  We cut the two sides 6 ft, then the tops and bottoms to the width we needed.  We drilled holes and screwed theme together.  I really was easy.  I thought about buying pre-made bookshelves and attaching them to the wall, but they were not deep enough, and they were the wrong width so I would have to cut them anyway.

Meece, Seeing your room gives me hope that someday I'll get mine to look that good. I sew in the guest room, but it's small and the closet is devoted to my clothes because the one in our room is only big enough for one.

Meece: Thanks so much for sharing the pics ! and the info about the melamine wood. I loved the idea of the hanging shoe organizer for fabric. It can hang in the closet and disappear. Now I need to clean out the closet. Haha. Bookshelves are too shallow and I love how you made the shelves deeper. I didn't know about the melamine wood at Home Depot.  I'm excited to shop at Home Depot now.  Now you've got me thinking about using the melamine in the garage.  Wow, this is exciting ! ! !

I did a little decluttering in the sewing room closet today.  Found a lot of clothing that needs repairs or alterations.  Tossed out some stuff, and put other stuff in it's place.  Not finished with it yet, but it was fun to get in a clean room and straighten it out even more.

Teka:  Yes...very sad....when a private citizen can order over 6,000 rounds of ammunition over the internet, along with all the gear to outfit himself against attack, and use that against innocent victims, we have a serious problem!  I don't think this is what our forefathers had in mind when they wrote laws to protect our freedoms.  I certainly don't feel very free at this moment.  I could go on for pages but this isn't the forum....

My heart and prayers go out to the victims and their families.

I agree with you, Kaara.  So, in Colorado you can buy a handgun and it doesn't have to be reported unless you buy two within five days?  And who sells body armor on a "one item" sale basis? I mean I could see a police Dept. buying 5 or 6, but for individuals to buy it?  When they propose that we can't buy a 32 oz soda in a state, but we can buy an magazine for an automatic weapon in another, I think our leadership has a skewed priority.

Meece:  It's not a big secret that the NRA has a huge hand in keeping responsible gun laws off the books.  If you notice, they never make statements when these things happen...they go underground until the crisis passes then come out in full force again against any kind of regulations.   The only priority our leadership has is the upcoming election...nothing will get done because they are afraid of losing votes.

That's really putting it perspective...people are being killed in movie theaters by madmen, and our lawmakers are legislating against the sale of large sodas!  I want to scream!

Dad has been in the hospital since last Friday so with all the time spent with him, my house is suffering.  I walked into my kitchen for coffee this morning and cringed.  Perhaps I will do some decluttering in there as I clean it up.  Mother expects us to come over tonight as Dad will be home, so no time to do much then.

Thank you.  He's home and doing great.  Other than all of us doting on him, and jumping every time he looks at us slightly different, he's back to his old self.

I was supposed to go to LA with FDIL to pick up her wedding gown this weekend.  That's been cancelled so maybe my house will recieve some attention instead.

It's been ages since I posted. I'll try to catch up a little with everyone.

I'm in the process of moving - a great opportunity for cleaning out. It's been tough, but I've made some progress. But to give you a sense of how nostalgia trips me up so often, here' a little poem I just cranked out as I inspected a mug that is, sadly, destined for the garbage pail. I'm working on a final few lines, but I have packing to do so I figured I'd post as it is. (Time to watch a dozen VHS tapes to see if any are worth saving...) I think a new apartment is always a good time to reprioritize and try to develop new good habits.

Ode to a Chipped Coffee Mug

When I first found a chip in your rim,

    I held on,

Keeping you in front on the shelf, to remember,

    late nights,

    early mornings,

and all the times you sat and steamed your way through moments of my life,

and the lives of others in my life.

But now my life is taking me on a new road,

to a new home, with new memories to be made and coffee breaks to be shared.

Very nice, Rachel.  Isn't it amazing how it's not just our eye which bring back memories, but or fingertips as we run them over those chipped rims...

    Okay, is this normal behavior?

I woke up the day after completing my last Rad - (chemo and surgery done), and thought...

I have got to declutter this house!   I worked non-stop on my closet yesterday.  Soon it will be

    kitchen and then garage.

When I wasn't certain if I would live or die, I thought someone else may have to clean this out.

Now, that someone is me!   I guess it is my way to celebrate!

I think it is normal.  It gives us an opportunity to control something in our life.
