Not quite a horder - decluttering

For some reason this thread fell off my favorites and with my focus on a bridal shower (which occurred last Saturday) I had just thought there was no new activity here. The wedding is 8 weeks away and I need to declutter desperately! Especially since I invited DIL and DGS to come early and help me prep for the rehearsal dinner. They will expect to get into the guestroom to sleep.
Lots of sewing going on here as well, so declutering will be in waves.

Meece I am glad you found us all again. I look forward to seeing your completed wedding projects on the sewing thread. I bet/hope your decluttering will go really quick because you will be so motivated.
I will go upstairs again tomorrow to open a few more boxes. Slow progress.

I always have so many projects going, that some have to be put on the back burner. I want to take advantage of the decent weather before it turns foggy and cold, so I work outdoors after work.
The rehearsal dinner will be at our home so I really need outdoors and indoors decluttered!

well, i haven't been around for a long time, but the cleaning, and sorting continues..
we were told last week where ive lived for 5 yrs they're not renewing our lease, but are trying to sell the unit.. so, as it has to be all cah (long story) we can't stay.
now, a major clean out my hubs CANNOT avoid!!!
the pace just picked up, as we have only to Jan to cut by at least 1/2 to move.. im daunted by the very thought of the work involved in moving, but no choice. it'll make choosing what to donate aLOT easier, though...good to see the new comers to the mess.........lol 3jays

What a pain! At least you have more than 30 days notice. Best of luck with the decluttering.

During the work day I have such grand plans of coming home and doing some sort of decluttering, but then when I get home, I just want to sit and do nothing.

Then it makes them not-days off! But that's what I have to do. Especially when I put in 10 1/2 days like yesterday.0

I had a wonderful neighbor who used to have all of her housework done by thursday dinnertime. That way we could go out shopping on Friday or to lunch. She was so well organized, I always admired her. SHe moved away long ago but I stillmiss her inspiration.
I got some of my fabric organized in new clear bins. I also got a bag of packing fillers out of the sewing room. A bit at a time will do well for me, it will keep me going. If I overwhelm myself I tend to shut down. I am trying to visualize what I imagine but just an area or item at a time.

3jaysmom: Good luck with everything that moving entails. We are here to support you and cheer you on. I need to change my day-to-day thinking. I had a house cleaner come last week and it took me a whole day of preparation to get the house ready for her to come. I love this housecleaner, but she doesn't know where to put my favorite black travel sweater with the hole in the underarm and neither do I ! ! ! I seem to have various piles of projects. I started a box out in the garage for donations to Good Will and it's full. Now where do I put the stuff? the answer, I should make a trip to GW and unload the box, but that answer has literally eluded me until now. Geez, I've got such bad brain fog. I'm off to get blood test and then to GW. Thanks everyone.

18! I love it. I don't know how many I have and I gave away a lot before I moved from Illinois. Honestly I have not used even one in the last two years. They wait expectantly.
One time in Illinois I was looking at heart shaped cake pans on Amazon and to remember which ones I thought were nice I just popped them all on my wish list. Don't you now my DH went on my wish list and bought me every single one! It was around 8. I didn't have the heart tot tell him. I now have a private wish list for such uses!

Ginger, that's funny! Oh well, his intentions were good, at least.
I plan to do some annual decluttering over the next week, since DH will be on a fishing trip. Whenever I try with him home, he's right there telling me he just "might need" whatever I want to get rid of, so it's a losing battle. I do this every year during his yearly trip, and he has yet to ask for anything I got rid of!

I spent last winter going thru every corner and closet in the house, basement included. Threw away tons of junk, and gave away the better stuff I didn't need to charity, Did the same thing this summer to my garden shed, put a sign at the end of my driveway, "Free" and put stuff I didn't need out there. Most of it is gone.
I have been doing his so my husband doesn't have to, should I "kick the bucket", so to speak. So far I'm still around, and love my less cluttered life!0 -
Now that my sewing room has been decluttered (not that it can't use more decluttering) I am working hard at putting thins back where they belong after I use them. It is so rewarding when you need something and can go right to where it is stored and find it!

Tackling the garden shed this weekend. Swearing that stuff that hasn't made it into the yard this summer will find itself in the garbage or stuck out front and marked "FREE". Time to put stuff to bed for the season.

I have lost weight and need new clothes. I'm using the opportunity to have a small but adequate wardrobe which coordinates well. I was a travel agent years ago and most of my clothes were purchased for trips. Since I only used a carryon bag, it meant stuff had to really go together and have multiple functions. The only time I had to surrender to a larger bag was a trip to Russia in December.

Warning, I realize this is sort of a clothing rant.
Here in WA Cold Water Creek and Talbots are having great sales. Talbots has more substantial shirts, CWC has gone to lots of light weight shirts that you havew to wear a camisole with, I don't like that. I always loved Lands End for quality basics until Sears bought them. I have really old navy blue dressy tee shirts that have not faded one bit. I miss my old Land's End quality.
It is so hard to find high quality clothing that will last. MY DS worked for Banana Republic while he was in college and they had an anual family sale. One time got 10 items for $100.00. One of the blouses was pink and white striped and lasted for about 15 years, when I just got tired of it. DS told me all banana republic material was washed 3 times so no shriking whatsoever, I bet that isn't the way any longer. I used to really like clothes, now I just don't want to have to return them.

There are very few high quality clothes out there anymore. I use to love Talbots, but have been very disappointed lately. CWC is the same. Clothes are now considered disposable and only to be used for 2-3 years. I have wonderful t-shirts from talbots from 10 years ago, only problem is now they're too small. I'm tired of these flimsey shirts that need a camisole under them. I live in HOT Arizona and more than one layer is too hot. I use to love to shop, now it's a chore.

Joining the clothes rant here--I am tired of spending good money for a shirt that either 1. shrinks in a cold water wash (and I never put a shirt in the dryer); 2. is of flimsy material or (most common) 3. is so low cut that I have to wear a tank top under it.

I have a good number of LLBean from when we lived in Illinois, cold there. I used to find good quality there but haven't bought enough lately to comment intelligently. I did notice there is nothing there made in the USA except some boots. It is hard to find anything made in the USA anywhere. I do try, especially with Christmas gifts. I am also going to go to some of our small shops this year, I do love shopping on line though but I will give it an honest try. I'l look at Etsy too for handmades.
I bought our granddaughter a book, Goodnight Construction Site and was surprised to see it was printed in China. What do we make here?

And it is just not clothes, but undies. Elastic gives out after a few washings and I am not about to hand wash panties... L L Bean has an "overstock" website with some great bargains.
My complaint is that "tall" slacks have gotten shorter. At age 66, I know I have not grown taller. And long sleeve shirts and sweaters end up being 3/4 length for me.

Ooh GramE I am tall too, 5'11 1/2" Cold Water Creek has some decent tall jeans, I wait for sales. Lands End used to, but I think they have gotten rid of tall plus sizes there. We are about the same age.
Bras have also gotten really expensive and I am not sure about the wear. I did get fitten and I went down a band size and down a cup size. I had been wearing big bras to try to be comfortable. New ones look nice now but will they hold up? and hold me up! LOL

I have switched to Genie or Ahh bras. They give me the support and comfort I want and need.

Maybe they're just trying to make clothes that fit nobody. I'm short and hem everything. Lately t-shirts are too long. My friend is even shorter than I and she buys cropped pants because they're full length on her. I have threatened to make a patchwork purse out of the pant legs I've cut off. Then I would literally have a purse that matched everything in my wardrobe.

Since we are on the clothes thing...I donated 16 pairs of jeans last weekend. Problem is I have tried on a million pairs and can't find any that fit right. I see women with weird shapes that look nice in their jeans so what's wrong with me?
To describe my shape-5'7", no real waist or hips, lost my ass to chemo, kind of between size 12/14. All I want is a pair of dark washed straight leg ones that look nice. What I have tried on gaps at the back of the waistband, or too stretchy, or they are so dang long I would have to wear stilettos or cut them off. I am willing to pay the bucks if I could just find the right ones. Buying a swimsuit with no breasts was easier than finding a pair of jeans-that's just not right.
What jeans are you guys buying? Oh and I am not a youngster-54 years old
