Thanks Isabella. You're not losing it.  And a missed bday of a gdau-in-law's birthday, well that's just not enough to get in trouble for.

I agree with Lost Creek, Isabella.  Wouldn't worry the first thing about it.  Re kids' birthday parties, my children also had the "destination" parties.  A favorite place for them was the skating rink, where we paid a flat fee for the admission and skate rentals and they supplied a room for the party.  At DS's 7th birthday party, one of the boys was afraid to skate so his mother took a turn around the rink to demonstrate how easy it was.  It turned out not to be so easy when she fell and broke her arm!  Fortunately we're still friends.

I had a bone density scan today and suppose will get the results later this month at the oncologist appointment.  This is a new onco, who I've seen once and I wasn't impressed.  Hope he doesn't want me to take one of those bone building drugs.  The previous onco, who relocated, was gung ho for me taking reclast, but the possible side effects, like osteonecrosis of the jaw, were horrifying and I refused.  We shall see when the results are in.

Hope everyone got a good start on the week!

QCA, thanks.  I've been meaning to ask you -- when we flew into Charlotte last month, we saw a big mine - it seemed to be right in or near the city.  What do they mine?

Our vacation last month went ok.  Lots of small annoyances like bad weather, the ship wasn't ready so we only got 4 of the 5 days we'd paid for, and so on, but all in all we had a good time.  I got to ride on the bowsprit of the ship which was fun.  The water was as beautiful as a postcard.  There were only 6 of us passengers, tho' it's built for 24 passengers, so we felt we had the ship to ourselves.  In fact while I was on one beach with a crew member, an SUV drove up & stopped and the gal shouted out "Is that your boat?"  I, of course, said "Yes" - she said "Nice" and I replied :"Thank you".  tehe.

The thing that was absolutely astounding was the aquarium at the Atlantis Resort.  Oh my goodness was it incredible.  We were there two days and went through the aquarium three times it was so fascinating.  Highly recommend it.

QCA - I'll be interested in your DEXA results.  Mine were iffy last summer - PCP wants me to take Fosamax; onco said I could wait, that she used to recommend bone-strengthening drugs almost unilaterally when osteo lurked, but "new studies show..." and now she isn't so sure about it, so she let me slide until next scan, in 2014.  So I am trying to walk more, add more calcium and reduce caffeine in my diet.  We'll see.  I am terrified of those bone drugs.

Hi Gals< sorry i've been MIAfor so long.. a combination of being sick still, depressed, and moving.

My neice an neohew gave us a wonderful Christmas present. they gave us a Lowes cars to pay for tiling in the new house. we shopped a few stores, and got it cheap enough, that every room is tiled , that wasn't.My neohew who's quite handy, stayed a week, and laid all the tile for us.

Then, that side came back from Daytona, the group of them, and moved all the big furniture in. we didn't make the Jan 1st (hoping) deadline, but the landlords is the 14th, which we may make.. still lots to move, the personal stuff.. and my leg isn't healing well, so the walking is killing me..

Chrissy, I am so sorry to have missed the Passing of your mom.. I hope you're doing okay now..

I had a moment, when moving, where the ashes of my mom, dad, and sister, were together on the d rm table, and i broke down. my neice was there, and we had a good cry together. it's the first i've felt i had "family" in a long time.

My sons were are non existent for the move, and things aren't going well with the son who's staying here, with me.. lack f respect, and plenty of it,, its the one thing i won't out up with;so we'll have to deal with it all soon.

Im sure i won't be on much, till all this settles down.. but you're all thought of often, and very loved here.be safe and healthy in the new year.........3jays

LC - So proud of you for going the distance to get the marker done. The hard work, frustration and stress finally paid off. Yeah for you!  You had so much to convey in so few words, but you did it.  You are one amazing lady.  What is the next project that needs some encouragement and prayer support?  Know that I am always in your corner.  Congratulations.

3jays - it is good to see you here again.  So sorry you are having such a hard time with your leg not healing the way it should.  Glad your nephew is being such a help to you with the move.  Take care of yourself and remember we all care about you.

Chrissy - wish you could have gotten it in time for Christmas this year, but hope you can enjoy it for many Christmases to come.  Love you my dear friend.  Glad it is a little cooler at least for a few days.  I know the heat becomes a real problem and now I hear that Southern Australia in under a real danger for wild fires and has a catastrophic fire alert and a ban on fires of any kind.  Stay safe and I am praying for rain to help minimize the fire dangers.  Also that the fires stay far away from you.

I had a DEXA scan yesterday and will not have any results until next week.  I will let you know how it turns out.  I too am scared of all the side effects of the bone building drugs.  It took a lot of convincing for me to take the Aredia every month.  It is starting to affect my kidneys so we have backed the dosage down and administer it slower in the hopes that will help, but if the bone scan shows more bone loss I don't know what my next move will be.

Hope everyone is having a good 2013 so far.  AJ

AJ, it's funny that you're having the DEXA and wondering what the next step is if you have more bone loss. My onc said don't bother with the DEXA since I'm already on the Aredia and if I have bone loss there's really nothing else that can be done. Fine with me, I spend enough time in/under scan machines already.

Leah - I will let you know what my MO has to say if any more bone loss shows up in the report.  He may make the Aredia IV more often or up the dosage, which would mean it would take longer.  Oh well, at least I can get a lot more reading or resting on those days. He is worried about my kidneys and the Aredia is hard on kidneys so not sure what he will say.

Lost Creek, I think it is wonderful that you have gotten the Plaque approved and your relative will have public recognition. My family is from western KY & TN.

3Jays, it os great to hear from you. Moving is just so hard isn't it? The gift of tile is so nice of your relatives and then doing the install is beyond thoughtful.

Crissy I am happy to hear that the weather has broken somewhat. 114 is just unbeleivably hot.  I hope you can rest up now and be kind to yourself.

Isabella I keep forgetting my DIL b'day on January 4th. I don't think you have any worries at all. No fault for you.

Macattack I hope you can get your pneumonia shot soon. Could you wear a face mask and bring hand sanitizer with you?  I just got my flu shot on tuesday, they only had one dose left, and it was for a senior. I qualified so I got the one dose. It is of a greater strength, but I don't know why.   I wonder how soon after exposure one would show symptoms of the flu?

I wish you all a healthy weekend with no flu!

    Hugs Ginger

Hey Ginger, I was thinking of you today and how I hadn't "seen" you around lately. And here you are.

Glad you got your flu shot. It is amazing how quickly it is spreading and the media coverage is scary. I have been wearing my mask and washing my hands a lot. Today we got an automated code red call telling of a free flu shot clinic for Sunday.

I am getting the pneumonia shot on Monday and seeing my PCP.

So I've been cooking all week. Not sure what has gotten into me, but I did get a new Rachael Ray magazine. Also a friend brought over some kale, carrots, thyme and rosemary from her winter garden. I tried out quite a few new recipes. Since I am just cooking for myself there is no stress about whether someone will like it or it getting done on time. Does that qualify as fun?

    Hugs to all.

Glad everyone is getting their flu and pneumonia shots.  I cannot take them because of allergies to the way they are developed. Due to an egg allergy both my PCP and MO told me not to get it and to just stay home or wear a mask if I have to get out, also to avoid being around children and other sick people.  FAT CHANCE of that happening.  I spent Christmas with 4 DGDs and Thanksgiving with a friend that thought she had a cold, but found out the next day that it was pneumonia!  Good thing God is watching over me and my stupidity.

I got some good news about my DGD#1 that had viral miningitis since Nov. 26.  Had to have brain surgery today to releive the pressure especially around her optic nerve.  Surgery went well and the drain is keeping the pressure down so no more headaches and vomiting.  She can now get some much need rest. So can the rest of the family.  Last couple of days have been very emotional, stressful, and thankful for so many of my sisters here that have been praying for Kendall.  Details are on my FB page.

Hope everyone gets a good nights rest. AJ

Elisimo - first of all glad to hear your GD is recovering.

Secondly, yes they have flu vaccine now that isn't prepared using egg embryo - ask your PCP because honestly you don't want the flu!

Elisimo, so glad the surgery went well for your DGD. Wow, she has been sick for a long time. That must be very draining for your whole family. I hope you get some rest.

I am sitting here with a heating pad across my chest. I am having stabbing pains today. Oh well, it is a cold rainy day. And I am watching a funny movie.

Oh dear me...I have found a drink that I like...there will be no holding me now!!

Just before Christmas I was doing a 'last minute shop', and saw some bottles of pink gin. Never ever having tried this I bobbed a bottle in my cart, together with a couple of bottles of tonic water, and have just finished it tonight ! Truthfully, I can't say I noticed any difference between pink gin and ordinary gin !! but then I haven't had ordinary gin for years!  I HAVE to programe myself to walk past the spirit aisles now !!

My youngest Alsation dog is in trouble..she was caught chasing horses. NOT my fault. DH decided he would come up for a walk around, unbeknown to me, I had no idea he was wandering about outside. I was quietly tucked up sewing....all dogs safely shut in their pens ( or so I thought) when a very irate man starts to bang on my door . His daughter and a friend had been 'buzzed' by an Alsation. 'Not mine ', I told him, 'she's locked up at the moment'. Then , who should come galloping up the farmyard, but madam Carla, looking all hot and bothered. I didn't really know what to say, apologised profusely, reminding the man his daughter shouldn't even have been riding in my fields, to try and diffuse the situation ! Then, up trots DH, trying to keep up with the dog....so there was my answer !! He got a roasting , and Carla got a shouting from me ( not that she knew why I was shouting, but it made me feel better ) No wonder my blood pressure won't go down !

    Isabella.

Oh Isabella, what a shame that you already finished that bottle of pink gin!  A stiff drink is just what the doctor ordered for you after that fiasco...  We should've known that DH would be at the bottom of it!

Bud The Dog is much better today--all perky and happy, sporting nicely polished white teeth.  I bought him some canned dog food today since his mouth is sore and you'd have thought he'd won the lottery.  Never had canned food before. Tomorrow it's back to the dry.

AJ, I've been seeing about your DGD on FB and am so glad to know she's doing much better.  What an ordeal for her and for you all.  Hope all continues to go well.

I've accomplished absolutely nothing today, but it's been fun.

Isabella why did you not so DH let the dog out in the first place? Honestly that man would make my blood boil with his thoughtless ways!

AJ I'm so glad that your GD is feeling better........such a worrying time for you all!

Nancy what are those stabbing pains from and where exactly are they? Please be careful and if they get any worse please go to the ER. Chest pain should always be checked out.

We have finally had a break in the weather and today is really cool........I'm loving it! When it's cool I seem to get a burst of energy so I'd best not waste it and go and do some cleaning in my kitchen. Well not so much cleaning but reorganising as I have a few things that belonged to my mother that need to find a home there.

Take it easy all and be well!

    Love n hugs. Chrissy

Isabella - what would the penalty be for shooting your ex-DH as a dog napper?  I think I would have shot him just on general principles a long time ago!

Thank you everyone that has been following my fb page about DGD#1, Kendall, and been praying for her and the family.  I love you all so very much and appreciate all the love, prayers and support that you have shown my family during this time.

    Joy and blessings, AJ

Chrissy, the pains are in the radiated area, not really chest pain. I see my doc on Monday They are just more severe than they have ever been. I will call my RO nurse on Monday too. So I am using a heating pad which sets off my hot flashes. I think I am going to save money on my heating bills this winter.

Nice that you will have some momentos from your mum around.

Isabella, Never a dull afternoon for you, eh?

Kathy, glad Bud is better, with sparkly teeth.

gonna try to get some sleep.

I was sitting quietly doing needlepoint with sweat pouring down my back in my NIGHTIE with no housecoat on. This is winter! My DH commented that the furnace hadn't come on or anything and I said it didn't HAVE to!!!!!!! I am doing a stained glass window pattern in needlepoint that I will mount in an old arched window frame!!! I've been putting quilted pieces in the old window frames and it has looked amazing! But I needed a project for the TV as I get bored watching and have to do something with my hands. I got a "pet screen" mesh which doesn't rip as it is strong and the perfect size holes for floss!!! It looks stunning so far!! I will be able to staple it in and it won't tear.
