Hi all! Yes I have finally arrived! I'm home!!! Car is unpacked and most of the stuff........and you know what I mean when I say stuff......lol.....is put away. A load of washing is just finished and ready to go into the dryer and once that is done this old bird will also be done......I'm pooped!!! I think it's time to put the feet up as I have cankles (ankles the same size as calves).......lol......from all the driving and sitting in the same position. It's going to take a couple of days for them to shrink back to their normal size.
Barbe I can't imagine that amount of snow all in one place, my mind boggles!.......lol.
Time to go put that washing into the dryer.
Love n hugs all! Chrissy

Glad you're back, Chrissy. Have you tried the compression socks when travelling? I bought a pair for the long airplane trip to and from AUS and they really helped with the swelling.
Funny idea about dividing North America north and south!

We had two days of rain and it greened up the hillsides,,this is a view from my front door
here is a snail catching a ride on our floater..

Lisa, the picture is gorgeous!
Welcome home, Chrissy. And welcome home to my DS, who returned last week after 6 months in the U.S. I love when my chicks come back to the nest.

Welcome home, Chrissy! Hope you had a great visit and can now relax and put your feel up. Love trips, but it's always good to get back home, too.
And welcome home to your DS, Leah. I can just imagine how glad you are to have him back.
Oh Barbe, I can't even conceive of snow piled up like that. Are your heating costs astronomical? Ours went up drastically this winter with the unusual cold we've had, but I can't imagine what yours have been like.
Lisa, beautiful view! Everything's so green. We saw some beautiful daffodils today and some trees are even blooming, but everything will probably freeze tonight with lows in the teens. Enough winter.
DGD is much better. She had her 6-month dr visit today and the pneumonia's cleared up. Even got her 6-month shots, so all is well.

I went to the foot doctor today and we drove by the harbor on our way home. Saw the old ship and the modern aircraft carrier

Hi all!
Carole, yes I wear compression socks but the minute they are taken off my feet and ankles balloon .......it's such a pain and can take up to a week to return to full normality. I think half the problem is I am prescribed fluid tabs to be taken every day as part of my blood pressure meds but for something like a very long trip when toilets are not readily available I don't take them........I think I'm past squatting behind a bush.......lol.....and the distances between towns is huge!
Lisa, the greening has begun here as well after the downpour about ten days ago. I am always amazed at just how fast things can go from yellow/brown to gorgeous green..........Mother Nature sure is special! I just love the contrast between the old and new ships and how special was that to be able to capture it on camera!?.......I was going to say film but then realized it no longer exists........lol.
Leah it's lovely when adult children return home particularly when that have been a long way away from you. Enjoy this special time with your boy.
Kathy I'm so glad to hear that the little one has a clean bill of health and was able to get her shots.........
I had a wonderful trip and a fabulous time with my brother and family. I have updated my avatar and it now has the same niece (a little bigger....lol) and her older sister.........my two gorgeous nieces. They are so cute and would come into my room each morning and jump into my bed for a snuggle before breakfast........it's so long since I had a little one do that. I had to promise that I would return in a few months as they were so upset that I was leaving........I can assure you that there were a few tears from all of us.
Well it's time to start thinking about what to cook for dinner.

This is in a town near mine showing the parking lot at a mall. You can just see the light standards at the top of the mounds.....

As for heating bills, snow actually acts as an insulator. We keep our house at 68 and I walk around in my nightie. I do wear slippers though. We don't adjust our heat all winter, just get used to differences in wind chill by wearing a housecoat. So the bills are about $90 a month in natural gas heat, not electric, that's for sure!!

Barbe! You posted a picture!! Yay you!!!!!....lol. OMG!! I have never in my life seen snow like that! and you sound so nonchalant but I guess that would come with seeing it like that every year. Wow that's a good price for you heating.....it costs me more for cooling and I don't have it running all the time. My last power bill was close to $800 for a three month period. Working on what it usually is without cooling, the cooling costs about $100 a week for every week I use it which is a bout three to four weeks a summer the rest I just use the ceiling fans to keep the air moving and make sure I let the cooler desert night air in by opening the house up and making sure it's closed again before sun up.

Barb, fabulous snow picture which captures the snowy winter. Your heating bill is about the same as my natural gas bill in the winter. Our heat, hot water heater, clothes dryer and stove are all gas. We also have an electricity bill which brings our winter utilities up to about $200, maybe less, and we have a small house for this area. 2000 sq. feet of living space.
Happy Mardi Gras! The parades will be on the local news stations all day. You don't have to go to New Orleans to see the festivities. The weather is cold today, 36 degrees in NO this morning. I live on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain and our area is supposed to have a mixture of rain and sleet. Needless to say, I'll be staying home today!

I was able to post that picture from a friend's Facebook page. Still can't post my own from Picassa. I don't want my pics to go into a "community" pool that could be accessed by others and then find I'm on a billboard in Japan!! Did you guys read about that guy last year that found out his baby son's picture was used in advertising in Japan and it became so famous that someone actually looked him up to find him???
0 -
No, I didn't hear about that, Barbe. What a thing to happen!
0 -
Barbe that won't happen if you make sure only your friends can see photos. When you post pics click the little friends sign not the world image and yoor photos just go to friends. If you let them go to the whole world they are fair game evidently.

Ikk Barbe! what a thing to happen! Did you know that you can make your photos on FB you only? again using the security setting for that posting.........I often put things there when it's just interest to me.
Well girls, I finally have feet and ankle instead of cankles........lol.......yup, woke up this morning and look down to check and then smiled. There is still just a little swelling but that is also in my hands so I'm guessing that to will dissipate probably in the next twenty four hours as it is now moving at least.....yay!
As usual, after being away, my house is like old Mother Hubbards and my cupboard is bare so I must go and make a list and do some food shopping.........I often wonder why it can't just appear?..........maybe one day when science fiction becomes science fact as it always seems to do.
Love n hugs all! Chrissy

I don't post pics on Facebook anyway. Was able to years ago, but can't now for some reason. Maybe I killed that brain cell thinking about something else? Who knows....sigh. Anyway, my Ozzie friend usually posts for me here from an email attachment.

I asked my husband and he said our last Gas bill was $300 for one month. It was cold and this house is large but we shut the vents in the upstairs rooms. He tries to keep the house at 68 but that is too cold for me. I now have a small radiator style heater close to me to turn on if I need it. Natural gas costs more here on the west coast than it did in Chicago where it is much, much colder in the winter. I agree with Barbe that the snow is a good insulator especially if your house has good insulation. We have only had very light snow here a couple times this winter. The nearby Cascade mountains have had lots of snow. Mount Baker had over 400" so far and the Route 90 Pass, (Stevens I think) the main route in and out, has had over 300" so far. Trucks and cars were stranded a day ago for over 20 hours due to an avalanche. Not a good ride in the winter.

I keep our house at 73 in the winter and 80 in the summer. Ever since chemo my personal thermostat is not functional.
0 -
Our thermostat is set for 70 during the winter. It's programmed to drop to 55 at night and click back on at 6:30 in the morning. We like it cold at night. DH usually opens the bedroom window if it isn't freezing weather. During the summer we set the thermostat for 78 but I often click it down to 76 if I'm in the house. Thanks to arimidex my body thermometer runs warm. At night we turn the A/C down to 68 so it gets cold enough for a light blanket.

We set ours to 70 year round, except for the very hottest days of summer. We have a heat pump which, to me, just doesn't provide enough heat despite the thermostat. Of course, when the temperatures are warm enough for comfort we just turn it off, like in early summer and fall. This winter, both DH and I are usually wrapped up in blankets. Funny, but he used to be cold natured and I was hot natured. Now it's the opposite.

Ours is set for 68 in the day and 55 at night. Our upstairs has baseboard (electric) heat and we only turn it on for Sunday morning when we read the paper in bed We do have an electric blanket to make the bed warm. We don't have air conditioning. It's only really hot (80's LOL) for about 2 weeks in the summer, so we just complain when that happens.
0 -
Actually we really only need our air conditioning a few days a year. Our thermostat is set automatically throughout the day.

I am laughing living in a country where it is only now beginning to be usual to have central heating or air con. We live in a 125 year ols house that has neither. We are now fully insulated which has made a big difference in the winter but the way this house was built it is cool in summer. We have gas heating and open fires though I am looking at getting gas put in one of them,

Wonder why the Mods set the threads to go back only 1 page. Hope this isn't permanent!

Alyson, my son lives in Japan and its fans and open windows in the hot weather and kerosene heaters in the winter. Very different than in the states. Was there in April/May one year and it would get down to the 30s at night and 50s during the day. I didn't mind the daytime but at night wore heavy sweat pants, long sleeved top, socks and sometimes a zippered hoodie under several comforters as I didn't like the smell of kerosene fumes and it would automatically shut off after a couple of hours, brrr. I have a whole new respect for AC and gas heat.

Hooray, they got it fixed!

Haven't noticed a thing......lol......I was sleeping when all the maintenance was done and what I see seems exactly right......lol.
I had a busy day yesterday, got my shopping done so I now have a full stock of fresh fruit and veg.....yum.....and the pantry stocked with all the other bits and pieces. I also so had my pampering and got the nails done.....makes me feel so much better when everything is as it should be.
Summer is still hanging around.....yuk! I checked the weekly forecast and come Sunday we are in for four days of over a hundred again........I sure hope that is the last gasp so to speak as I much prefer the milder temps we have had for the last two weeks. Roll on change of season for everyone!!
Love n hugs. Chrissy
