Can not believe that my son will be 45 tomorrow.

Mine is turing 33 next week and I, too, find it surreal, Lisa!!! I don't even feel 33 myself and I imagine you might feel the same way about your son's age. I still think of him as my little boy and have to bite my tongue a lot so he doesn't know that. He is the one that just had a second son on Feb 3rd, so yes, I do know he's all "growed up" but still...... Is that kind of what you mean when you say you "can not believe"?

Happy Birthday to your son Lisa!
I hear you both!! I can't believe my eldest daughter will be 44 in May, my other 41 in April. My eldest grandson is 18 and had his first week at University last week!
Where have the years gone? That is a question I seem to ask a lot these days........in my head I feel no different to what I did in my thirties it's only the body that tells me I'm twice that age when I try to do the same things I did back then........if fact, many of those things are now a total impossibility!
One thing I'm thankful for is I still have all my marbles.........I think........
Love n hugs all! Chrissy

I can't believe that I will be officially old in a couple of weeks. My Seniors card arrived yesterday. And DD will be 40 this year. In my head I am not that old.

Aly I've had one of those for a couple of years already and a pension card for much longer.......yeah, I'm already officially one of the older generation! Don't quite know how that happened but it did......lol

Lisa, your son and I share a birth date! I'm 71 today, speaking of being a part of the older generation. It's a nice day, sunny with occasional cloudiness, and a mild temperature. I'm enjoying being alive and feeling good. Tonight dh and I are going out to dinner at an excellent restaurant. I'm looking forward to that. Yesterday when I got home from having a birthday lunch with golf friends, he had a big bouquet of roses sitting on the kitchen island. He'd bought them and arranged them himself in a vase.

At 71 and 3 1/2 years of physical deterioration due to the SE's of BC meds have to admit the body is getting old but my spirit is still young. I was most unhappy when my arthritic knee made me give up my 62nd birthday present to myself -- a plum Corvette.

I am 71 also. Good year!
What a great day for you. Roses!!!

Happy Birthday to you Carole! Wow! Roses arranged and waiting for you........what a wonderful surprise! Enjoy your dinner!

Lisa I have two his age, I can't believe it either. It doesn't seem possible.

Happy birthday, Carole!! Hope you and DH had a great time tonight!
And hello to everyone else. Got to set the clocks forward before I forget it!

Carole....did you recognize the vase as one of your own? .... Just sayin'.......
You guys have 5 years on me - I feel like a baby. Aly, I've met you and you didn't seem "old" to me. The energy you exuded certainly trumped mine!
Happy birthday to all!!

Managed to lose 4/10 of a lb last week despite the birthday celebrating!
Spent the afternoon doing our federal tax return, using Turbo Tax. As expected we have to pay more taxes. So I'll wait until closer to the April 15 deadline to E-file and pay up. We have state income tax, too, and that's going to be another sad story. That filing date is May 15.
Thanks so much for the birthday good wishes.

Hi girls!
What a morning! I have been thinking that it is time to have my other knee replaced and to that end I decided to make a phone call to my orthopedic surgeon and get my name put on the surgery list. The upshot of that phone call is I have an appointment with him for check up next Tuesday! Now this doc usually has a two to three month waiting list but I lucked out as there had been a cancellation five minutes before I rang! Wow!
The only thing was that I then had to phone my PCP (he is a two hour drive from me) and ask that he fax a referral to both the orthopede and the imaging company that I need to see to have a new xray of that knee for when I see the doc........talk about a quick turn around! I couldn't believe it! I also asked his nurse to pencil in a date for the op as I know it will definitely be done so right now I'm looking at sometime in June/July......date to be confirmed after the appointment next week.
I have been putting it off as it will mean no driving for at least three months as it is my right knee and I need to be able to lift and plant with that leg for the accelerator and brake (don't forget, our cars are back to front to yours). I'm not looking forward to the pain and recovery but I am on the other hand looking forward to being able to move without pain......yay!
Hoping your days are full to overflowing with all the good things that life can bring.
Love n hugs. Chrissy

That's a tough call isn't it Chrissy

Hello,
Well, Chrissy, when things start to move for you they seem to move quickly! At least in this case. Looks like you have a good attitude about keeping your eye on the end result not some of the uncomfortable process. That's great that the knee that has already been done is feeling and working so well. How long has that been?
I'm going to see an ortho doc about my hand next week. Hopefully he can suggest something to reduce the pain.
Life is going really well, right now. I had some relatives visiting over the weekend. We went to a movie and out to eat and just lots of chatting. Now tomorrow morning I get to go to PCP and get weighed. Hope I didn't do too much damage.

Wow, Chrissy, look at you getting in to see your surgeon so quickly! Hope everything else works well so you can get a definite date soon. You did so well with your first one and I'm sure it'll be the same with this one too. You seem so excited! Of course, there are parts you're not looking forward to, but the end result will be worth it, I'm sure.
Nancy, hope ortho dr can do something about your hand. It's so hard to be in pain all the time. I have a pcp appointment this week too and plan to ask her about hip pain I've been having. Aging is certainly not easy but it does beat the alternative, to be sure.
Hope all are fine and have a good week!
Kathy

Lisa I have been putting off the decision for quite a while, finding all sorts of reasons not to get it done, but it is now really impacting on my being able to do a lot of things so it's time. Besides, I'm really sick of the pain.....lol.
Nancy it's two years at the end of this month since the other one was done and I think I'm lucky to get that long. It was a toss up which one to do first almost up to the minute I was wheeled into the operating theatre.......lol.......but the thought of the pain and disability that comes with this op and for quite a few months at that........well, what can I say, other than I procrastinated long and hard........lol.
How is your rebuild going? The last pic you posted showed amazing progress! Oh mt! you are still haviing that much trouble with your hand? Sure hope your orthopede can do something as that amount of pain is no fun! Glad everything else is going good for you........oh, another thought.....lol......how's your shop doing now? Is it working out as you hoped?

Chrissy, you are too cute!!! You DRIVE on the opposite side of the road but we use our RIGHT legs for gas and brake (and clutch) too!! hehhehehhehee
Is there supposed to be that much pain with a knee replacement? I thought as it was bone involved, once the bad parts are gone (bone on bone grinding) there is minimal pain! Or is it the physio and stuff that hurts?
0 -
Barbe, they have to cut the bone above and below the knee, drill out both ends before cementing in the new prosthetic knee. Then they have to reattach the main tendons and muscle that control the movement of the knee. The pain is major because of that and the fact you have to start learning to move it correctly a few hours after surgery. It's the learning to isolate the damaged muscles and tendons and then telling them to contract and in doing that, getting the knee to bend and straighten. Here, we are in hospital for a full week before being discharged to home. If there are any complications then we are discharged to a rehab centre for a few more days of intensive Physio.
The docs say that it is an op that takes a full year to completely heal and for the knee to feel like it's your own and after the experience with the other one I am willing to agree with them whole heartidly. I was definitely walking and moving long before that, in fact within the week but I needed a walker and then sticks for about three months to ensure I didn't fall.......I'm guessing this one will be exactly the same.

Knee replacement is not a surgery anyone would undergo if it weren't absolutely necessary. My youngest brother's wife had both knees done, about 6 months apart. She did great with the first surgery and not as well with the second. She still limps. My younger sister had partial knee replacement done at the end of 2013 and she still limps and has pain.
If you've made up your mind, Chrissy, then it's probably good that you can get the surgery done sooner rather than later.

The build is coming along gangbusters. The top is going to be a small bedroom and then a roof deck. We have to stay within a certain size of square feet of living space. Tomorrow I need to go look at windows and doors. Of course since it is near the water I have to decide whether to get impact glass or have to put up shutters whenever it storms.
Here it is from the other side. It is so exciting! The part closest to the front is going to be the kitchen and the rest (besides one bathroom) is living space.

Ladies, I have to say that after the last 2 years of feeling crummy and wondering how my life was going to turn around. I am so happy right now! We've got the med combo finally worked out. I have energy, my mood is great and I am losing weight and able to exercise again. I feel like I have my life back!
The shop is going very well. The guy is here every day and works hard. He does good work. I can go to my doc appts, exercise classes and take the dog for a walk without worrying about customers or the shop. Both he and his wife both seem to really like living here. I'm just placing an ad in the local newspaper this week in the "Meet Your Merchant" section. Showing that he is doing the work and I get to talk to people and oversee the whole operation. I was trying to do a little too much at first, but now I have relaxed and have learned to ask for his help. The way my hand is now, I cannot work scissors or grasp a knife right. Oh well, my kids say I am bossy anyway! I'll post the pic that is going to run in the ad.
Doesn't he look such the part of a cobbler? (and I look pretty bossy!)

You both look very happy.

Wow Nancy! That built is certainly coming along great guns! Can't wait to see it once the skin is on and the window/doors are in........so exciting for you. You and the cobbler look fab! I'm so glad things are working out for you in that quarter and the fact that you are returning to your 'normal' self is a double bonus ...........it's amazing what the right combo of meds can do but so often the time is not taken to do that.
Carole, I had the left knee done two years ago and always knew that the right would have to be done as well. Yes the pain from this op is excruciating and if there were any other way I would take it but when it gets to the point that even to get out of bed is such a pain, well, the knee is telling me its done. It is so bad now that it is affecting the way I walk which is throwing out both my hips and my back so it's not just the knee that is hurting. I'm very happy with how the other one is, it's not perfect but I can now use it with out pain and I don't limp on that side at all.
Each of is is so different and yet we are the same and how the results from the same op can be so varying is mind boggling and in its way, scary but in the end, we all have to do what is best for us at the time the decision is made to go ahead. I have very bad arthritis in my feet as well as I'm prone to gout in those same poor feet so add that to a crook knee and it's a wonder I am still on my feet at all........lol........my aim is to stay on them for as long as possible and this op is just another step to that end.
Carole I'm sorry to hear that your family members are still having problems........the limping thing, in the beginning has to be really thought about. It takes a concerted effort to not limp as we all have a tendency to want to.........I was warned by my Physio about this so made sure I walked without limping from the get go. As I said earlier, this op takes a minimum of a year to heal from so perhaps both your relatives are still healing and there is still a chance that all will be well in the end.
Oh my! I've written a book again..........lol......sorry ladies, I do tend to rave on sometimes.
Love n hugs to all! Chrissy

my neighbor's loquats are looking good..
0 -
Ooo Lisa, I love loquats! Particularly when made into jelly......yummmm!!! They are such an old fashioned fruit and really not seen as often as they should as the modern generation don't know how good they are. My gran introduced them to me when I was just a kid........she'd take me down to her orchard which was filled with all sorts of fruit trees and we would do the rounds and taste all that was ripe and then we'd pick and she would make jellies and jams on her old wood stove. She would make jam tarts and serve them with clotted cream that she had prepared from the one cow she used to keep.
Oh my! Such wonderful memories are invoked.......lol.......I can smell and taste the yummies that used to come from her kitchen.........maybe that's why I don't lose weight......lol......I eat too many memories or remember them and then have to go make and eat them......hahahahaha!
