hey Sas, how you doing in very wet FL? Are you stuck in no power land? If so, we won't hear from you for aWhile. Please stay safe.

Sensi, how was lunch with relatives, did you got to see everybody? We'll do lunch when you feel up to it. Remember that Lover doesn't workon Fridays.

JeanQ, I had delayed recon due to worry about healing because I had a breast lift done 13 yrs before. They will do skin saving technique for later if they do TE. Was flat for 5 mos. didn't bother me at the time but I look back at pics now and I cringe. Amazing what we tolerate at the time all this is going on. Followyour heart andmake sure you take someone with you to appointments. Second pair of ears is a must.

If you haven't checked yet, go to Whippetmom on Implants 101.

JeanQ, It was recommended to me that I not do immediate reconstruction, simply because I was stage III and they wanted to get the cancer out of me asap. I'm a planner and for me the thought of adding more decisions to my plate was overwhelming, so I didn't hesitate to agree and I had my BMX 3 weeks after Dx. (Then chemo and rads.) I had the LD flap on one side, and I'll tell you straight out, it's a big surgery. I got expanders, though, so I can't speak to direct implant. I really hated being flat after my BMX, and using a prosthesis, but I don't regret the decisions I've made. I would say you have to weigh the pro/cons of the surgeries, but also the emotional impact. I'm divorced and do not have a man in my life, so I have been very self conscience about my ever changing shape, but again, I still wouldn't change what I've done. My other advice is to make sure that you are really comfortable with the PS you choose, as you will spend a lot of time with him/her. I interviewed both a male and female, and before I met them thought I would choose the female, but personality wise liked the male best and he came highly recommended. When I met my PS, he agreed that I made a good decision about delayed recon..they are the ones that have to deal with the effects of radiation during surgery. However, in your case with having had radiation years ago, I'm a little confused as to why the PS feel the radiation will still have such an impact. Sorry...I'm kinda rambling. I hope this helps...every case is very individual and you have to consider what is best for you, physically and emotionally.

Jazzy, I hope you have a fun weekend!!

Sas, Ple Meadow.ase take care of yourself. Although your work and research is appreciated, you have to be here in order to continue it.

Loverly, that's great that you get to see DD this weekend. I'm sure it will be great for all of you.

Sensi, No..I haven't sat and listened to DS sleep yet, but my ex said that he knows he snores on occasion. My kids share a room at his place and he said that sometimes DD complains that DS was snoring. I think I'll go sit in his room now though. In case you like wearing scarves, I found several at thrift stores...much cheaper and good as new after washing. I chose ones that were light weight and soft. Sometimes I would just pull it back, like a pony tail, and use a hair binder to secure.

Mags, I'm so sorry about your jaw pain! It sounds awful. How is Rose?

    Junie, :( for more pokes.

Hi lesleyb and Meadow. I love that saying, Meadow. I bought myself a crown toward the end of chemo and wore it at my last treatment!

Yesterday my ex father in law passed away, and my ex husband was busy with his family, so I had to tell my kids about their grandpa. He has been sick for many moths, so they weren't too surprised and took it well. Today I got my monthly Zolodax shot and then fills. I normally have been doing 50cc each time, but asked for 25 because last time I hurt so bad for 3 + days. I'm getting to the point of deciding if this is enough, or maybe just a little more. I came home from the fills and napped with ice packs on my boobs and an electric blanket for the rest of me. I was pretty uncomfortable tonight, but then decided to go with a little vodka pain management, and that has helped.

Today when I went to the cancer center for my shot there was a volunteer doing hand massages, and I just happened to have an extra half hour in between appointments. It felt SO good...made my day!

    Hugs, everyone!!

Wildtulip The concern I'm hearing from the PS is that radiation damages the blood vessels so there is not a good blood supply to the reconstructed breast. The LD flap is being suggested because then I'll have new muscle and blood vessels from back there moved up to the radiated breast. Was the LD flap recommended to you for a similar reason? Have both sides healed up well, I hope so.

Smaarty wow whippetmom has a lot of info, thank you. I think I'll get something going so I'm not flat for the months in between. How did you heal up from your reconstruction?

Thanks ladies! And the whole prosthesis thing where do I start, where to go and when before or after?

jeanq, I like having boobs! That being said, I don't know if I'm keeping the set I now have, 2nd pair. I think they are becoming encapsulated. Not going to do anything about for now. I didn't have a hard time with any of the sx and think I'd do it again if given the option.

I was given info on the prosthesis about 2-3 weeks after the bmx. Got fitted but never got the chance to use them much.. Saw the ps one week after getting them and found out I had been to active and developed excess fluid which took a month to have the fluid removed. Its kind of funny, I remember at the beginning of this BC journey thinking some women were nuts to go thru so many surgeries just to get boobs and now here I am thinking I would choose to do it again if I can. Go figure.

So, remember to baby yourself and stay in your pjs for at least 3-4 weeks so people will remember that you had major sx regardless of how you feel! Don't overdo.

Also read the tips thread. You too wildtulip, be careful with the ice, you can get frostbite if not careful.

Hope everyone weathered the "big" storm safely. We had lots and lots of rain. The flowerbeds that surround the house are filled with little rocks instead of mulch. With all the rain, those flowerbeds became moats! Pris was not happy and insisted I carry her through the ankle deep water to the grass so she could go potty. Then she splashed and played in the water with her front paws…...baaaad kitty.

Smaarty, I will take a look at that thread. Thank you for the info!

Jeanq, yes, I was told the same thing as far as reason for needing LD flap. I was just thinking the tissue would heal with more time, and therefore maybe you wouldn't need it. This wa,s not based on anything..just my incorrect thought process! I was given a prescription for a prosthesis (so ins would pay for it), by my general surgeon, I think. I was told I had to wait 4-6 weeks after BMX to get it. Be sure to check that the store where you get your prosthesis is in network. I didn't like my first prosthesis and when I was contemplating recon surgery, my PS told me this..."You have reconstruction, it's just external. Go out and get a different prosthesis, one you really like, and after wearing it a few months if you still want surgery, then you know you're ready." He was right!

On our way to So Cal and guess who is driving like a mad man? I have spasm in my shoulders. Not sure if it's better to be behind the wheel or a tensed back seat driver. Hmmm... I will continue to take pictures.image

Loverly, are you taking highway 5 down? It's a boring road. Tell your driver not to fly on that highway! Glad to know you talked to your dad on the memories. Would love to hear some of the history. Have a nice time seeing DD1. Don't cry too much, she is an adult now.

    Susan, Adorable!

JeanQ, My doc said to wait 4 weeks before wearing a bra and I had one side done. I have a lighter weight silicone foob but mostly wear the weighted foam one (Trulife 611). I would love to be able to wear a camisole with foob, but the real one needs more support than that. The infinity-type scarves are pretty good camouflage until you can wear foobs. And they're a lot easier to wear in the fall & winter. Be sure to find a place that knows what they're doing to be fitted. Luckily, we have an awesome place in Seattle. Nordstrom also does mx bras and will sew a pocket into any bra you buy there.

Loverly ~ Pris and I alike? 'Cuz we are both adorable and so much fun! 😀

The hurricane just brought rain thank goodness. I don't think we've had a "real" hurricane here for at least 15 years. We go through periods of heavy storm activity - I'm glad for the extended break! I was living only a mile or so from the beach before building the house we live now. Evacuations are mandatory during major storms when you live close to the ocean. Not easy with pets and a toddler. Now we can stay put. My house is just far enough from the coast to be out of the evacuaion area but still close enough to get to the beach by car in 10 minutes.

Just looked up and saw your pic..... eeeek!

Reading the news....."Earthquake in Oklahoma was also felt in Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri, Texas, Nebraska, and Iowa"...... That's not supposed to happen there! Everyone okay out that way?

Hmmm....Patty's been bustin' loose like a wild colt. Methinks they got it wrong and all that earthshaking started in Arkansas!
