Lita - Your Lasagna sounds yummy. The one I made a long time ago had Italian sausage, roasted zucchini slices, Marinara, sauteed fresh spinach and mushrooms, onions, plus 2 kinds of cheese. Very time consuming, but so worth it.

WildT - Great pics of you and your kiddos. What a nice tradition.

Gi issues STILL a problem (4 days now). Called MO's office and they suggested immodium, zofran and fluids. I am also taking a really good quality probiotic. :0(

Have a nice evening everyone. Only 21 days until I bring Kirby home.

Wildt - fantastic pictures, you put me in the Christmas spirit

Loverly - are you feeling better? I hope so.

    Thanks ladies!

Junie and Loverly, I hope those GI issues have cleared up and you have a healthy Sunday.

Junie, fun that you were able to get some deals for your baby boy. I'm so excited for you!

    Lita, that lasagna sounds amazing!

Feline, your comment made me smile. My grandmother grew up in Ayr, Scotland, and in fact, my dad was born there. They moved to the US when my dad was 4. I visited family there once, but that was almost 30 years ago. Anyway, it's not common to hear people say "lovely" in the US, but my grandma used to use that word a lot. You made me smile and think of my grandma. :)

This week I'll be preparing for my surgery on the 5th. Today I'm going to make some bone broth, and I'll be making and freezing meals throughout the week. I also need to shop for bras that I will need to wear after the EX (my PS told me to get a specific kind), and try to get some holiday shopping done too.

Sensi - Chance is very handsome with his Christmas Lights.

Tomorrow Kirby will be 7 weeks old and I am looking forward to his newest pic. Breeder told me yesterday that he escaped the puppy area and got himself behind her entertainment center. He apparently had a great time fighting the dust bunnies he found there. All puppies are now corralled in the puppy area with the puppy gate in place. Now that they are getting older, they are becoming much more curious and adventuresome. This has made me look at all the stuff I have down low enough for a pup to get into and chew. My knitting, sewing, plants, etc. Will have to find somewhere to put these items to keep my boy safe & out of trouble.

On Sunday night we had a transformer blow and there was NO electricity for 6.5 hours. Such a creepy and unsettling feeling to be in the dark with no light, computer, heater, etc. We're not spoiled are we?

Smaarty - I know you've had a wonderful time on your trip, but I'd guess you're looking forward to your own bed/pillow and getting back into your own routine.

Loverly - Are you feeling any better? I'm not. It's been 6 days now and when I saw the MO today she decided to hold the Ibrance for another 2 weeks. Plus I have to submit a stool sample tomorrow. She feels I might have C diff. Apparently this infection is somewhat common in cancer patients on chemo drugs. Also, it is very contagious. I had no idea.

WildT - Very lovely pics of you and your kiddos. I hope your Thanksgiving was enjoyable.

JazzyG - How was your Thanksgiving?

I hope everyone else is doing well. Goodnight!

Oh MAN I am behind. Love all the photos.

Chance is a good sport to allow his mama to decorate him. How are you adjusting going back to work, Sensi? New computer system is friendly?

JeanQ, we would love for you to join us on the 6th. I don't mind driving to SF. Ms. S might still be in Aussie time next Tuesday.

Ms. S, Melatonin at bedtime may help you with the jet lag. Try not to nap during the day because your own warm bed is irresistible in the cold weather when you have sleep attack. Good thing you are retired.

WildT, your kids look so happy with Santa. Love it! Never too old. Are you nesting yet? Hope you find the energy. Wish we were near you to lend a hand.

JunieB, let's hope it's not C. Diff. Those buggars are opportunists. A healthy immune system is so important to keep the nasty bugs at bay. Hard to expect that in cancer patients under going treatment. You were treated for diverticulitis not too long ago with Levaquin and Flagyl right? I was given a dx of IBS years ago because they couldn't find what was wrong with my GI. Could never tell when it will act up. I do think stress does play a role.

Susan, can't wait to see you all. Does Elena have stranger anxiety?

Shepk, has FFFH lost at least one eff yet? Relationship is difficult and can be a major source of stress and misery.

MammaR, wish I you have better days.

    Jazzy, was procedure ok?

    Nite.

MammaRay your feelings are so understandable. You are dealing with such a rotten hand. How could you not feel tired? You have been strong for so long. Ditto what LoverofLife says: I hope you will have better days than how you are feeling today Heart

my computer just deleted everything I wrote. What's up with that!

Mammaray, yep, I think many of us have felt that way. One of my chemo treatments did a number on me. Had to go on antidepressants on that chemo. Also the holidays make some people sad. I am one of those. Wish family got alone better. My friend once said to me, God sets a table for you even in the valleys, told her the waiter needs to get me another table! I also joined a hiking group. That helps a ton. Hope you are feeling better soon. I and all of us are here for you, anytime. Love you my friend

    Sensi, such a great picture

Lover, Elena loves everyone. Just hates the car seat!

Jazz, hope you don't have that. Praying for you to feel better

    Smaarty, safe travels

    Have a blessed day gals

Susan, Elena reminds me of my DD. She screamed and cried herself to sleep in the car up until she was one or maybe two. I could ignore her, but DH couldn't. One time it was so bad that we had to take her out of the car seat ( while DH was driving!) Did not want to do it but DH said we could get into a car accident from the distraction of her crying and us arguing. Wanted to smack him so badly. I should have taken over the driving instead. Talk about driving...we took DD back to Southern Cal on Saturday morning and came back early the next day. Thank God we escaped the predicted holiday traffic. On the way home, DH drove like a MAD man weaving in and out of traffic. Talk about stress. I was trying to distract myself by playing 10/10. I finally had to remind him that he is no longer in his youth and that the older you get the slower the response/reflect. At the rest stop I took over. I don't like to change lanes much so I stayed on the faster lane most of the time. Well, some people ahead of us decided to slow down to gawk at the collision the opposite side of the freeway. Next thing knew I needed to step on the brake quickly to avoid hitting the car right in front of me (at the same time praying that I would not cause accidents behind me). Scared the living daylight out of DH. Told him we were even.

JunieB, how are you today? Hopefully, the result will come back soon.

The girls made the pumpkin cheesecake cupcakes over the holiday. image

Turned out pretty decent, but didn't taste like cheesecake at all. Problem: I gave them the wrong recipe from the internetLoopy It called for half the amount of cream cheese.

We have to try yours this Christmas.

Ms. Smarty, welcome home. There is no place like home.

Lover - - I distinctly remember back in the early 60's when we didn't even have seat belts in the cars. I would usually sit between my mom and my dad on the bench seat of our '57 Chevy station wagon, or I'd sit on my mom's lap. All of us five kids survived.

I'm sure you've seen those Facebook posts that enumerate how we all didn't have bike helmets or knee pads for skate boarding or cell phones to call our parents every ten minutes to tell them where we were...and we ALL survived!

Your cupcakes look yummy even tho they might not have tasted like Cheesecake :0).

good looking cupcakes. Food coma...probably. I didn't get a food coma:(. My cousin is a bad cook. Cremated the turkey. Never saw one quite so brown. Lol The dressing was like burnt croutons. We laugh so hard every thanksgiving. Bad food is her tradition, and we love it :)

Just popping in to wave hello.  Making it thru work but am super tired. Start next part of this BC journey tomorrow and start tamoxifen. Tomorrow is my "Friday". Will try to take notes.  Got to give the photo credit to my roommate. She just adopted a fur baby today, so now Chance will have a friend for a bit..

Have a good night ladies, almost my bedtime.

Sensi - here's to that tamoxifen doing its job with the least side effects! Chance with the christmas lights was really beautiful, cant wait to see him with his new pal.

We adopted a new kitten, pics to follow soon. Went to the vet for a check up with our other furball and came home fostering one from the vet that needed a home! Looks like hes a keeper we just had to make sure the existing bitchy cat wasnt going to terrorize him. A new pet is such a nice distraction.

I should have got a dog to walk instead of a cat, need some serious motivation to exercise. I'm not feeling mentally ready to head back to my exercise class and answer questions Scaredor hear I'm sorrys.

Smaarty did you make it home?

  • junieb
    junieb Member Posts: 945

Loverly - despite the cupcakes not tasting like cheesecake, They sure are pretty. Did I post my recipe for you? Hopefully.

I am also glad you made it back from So. Cal safely.

I had my faslodex injections yesterday and injections in two thumb joints today. A total of 5 needle sticks in two days. Ouch! Oh well, I'm a big girl, right? So far the thumbs feel pretty good. Lets hope this lasts this time. Won't have test results for GI issue before Friday. so we'll see there too. MO had me hold the Ibrance an extra week, but when she heard about my GI issues, she held it for another 2 weeks. She's saying that I may have to give up the Ibrance. I told her NOOOOO.

I have been taking Prilosec for approx. 8 years. I wish I'd known that it isn't recommended more than a 14 day period up to 3 times per year sooner. They are finding that prolonged use can cause kidney problems, plus also make one more susceptible to the C diff, as well as the chemo being a risk. A double whammy there! I tried to stop the stomach med last year and use alternative measures, like apple cider vinegar, etc. But I had such stomach pain even with me weaning myself down over a period of time. Three months of misery and finally couldn't even hold down oatmeal, so I gave up and went back on them. Quite a pickle I'm in here.

Kirby is supposed to come home on Dec. 18th, but snow down to the Willamette Valley is predicted in the near future. This concerns me greatly. Found out there is an International Airport in Spokane, but the flights are quite expensive and not all airlines fly into there or if they do, indirectly.

Sensi - I know you are asleep by this time, but I hope it is restful. As it turns out, one of Kirby's siblings will be residing in Sacramento. Her name is Aria and she's a very cute little girl. So if you ever run into a cairn terrier with that name at the dog park, it is probably Kirby's sister.

On my way to log out, I just saw Chances' pic again with the Christmas lights. Such a handsome boy!

Susan - Since I was home by myself this year, I cooked turkey drumsticks & thighs. They weren't all that appealing, but on Sunday I made a pot of vegetable/turkey soup and it turned out yummy, if I do say so myself.

Smaarty - I hope your travel home is going well.

Lita - Hopefully you are rested from all the cooking you did for the Thanksgiving holiday. Just 10 more days until our birthdays. Yeah! Thank God for birthdays and many other things as well!

Shep - How are you doing? You've been rather quiet recently. Hope you're ok.

Well Goodnight for now. Sleep well everyone.

It's 3:49 am, beginning my 2nd full day on the cancer floor at the hospital. A whole new world indeed. Came in Tuesday evening with chest pain. No heart problems but some kind of infection. No word yet on what kind. Been pumped full of who knows how many different antibiotics. At some point in the first 7 hours in the emergency room, my port stopped working. Already had one vein blow because ERs don't like ports, so I told the nurse, you have one shot. Make it count. She took it well and got the stick immediately. The nurses up here are more comfortable with ports, obviously, but still haven't been able to get a draw. I'm looking at another stick now, as they need more blood, and can't draw from the IV with all the stuff going in. Night nurse is a sweetie, promised me their best phlebotomist. My MO is actually on the floor all week so I saw him first thing. The hospitalist had said earlier that with my white counts around 2 I'd probably be here several days but MO said it doesn't concern him so much since he expects them to be low week after chemo and if my temp stays down I should go home tomorrow. I didn't even check it before I came in, but it was 100.5° when I got here.

Having the worst headache ever, the bones in my face are killing me. Percocet didn't touch it. Been sitting in the dark crying and just needed to connect. MO and I had our end-of-life chat today. "I have to do it." I said, I don't care, just do whatever DH says. I know where I'm going, I have no fear, and t this point, I'm only doing this for him anyway.

I love KIrby's sweet face. Love hearing about Smaarty in Oz. About Loverly's DDs and pumpkin cheesecake cupcakes. About the gbabies and kittens and even Mamma Ray, because I know I'm not alone, even though I wouldn't wish that sad on anyone.

So I thought I stopped up the toilet in my room because the big C finally turned loose last night and it was impressive if I do say so myself. I had called for a nurse (fall risk, can't get out of bed without assistance) and when he came he opened the bathroom door and said, we have a problem. I'm going to bring you a bedside commode. I could see the floor was flooded. They called maintenance who arrived around midnight with a plunger, then a snake, then "we're gonna need a bigger snake" then backup was called. I was lying here mortified at what I'd done, pretending to be asleep. Backup had a voice like Sam Elliot, if you know what I mean. They ended up having to take the whole toilet off, and it turns out I was only the catalyst, not the cause. Someone had flushed the cap from a specimen jar. It took nearly 3 hours to repair and now waiting for housekeeping to tidy up. Adventures of a lifer, eh? Patty know what I'm talking about, I'll bet.

Well my head still hurts though not as bad. Gonna ask for some ibuprofen and see if that helps. Love to all and fingers crossed I get sprung later today

    Hi friends!

Sensi, That picture of Chance...I just want to hug him! Such a cute face!! Are you seeing MO today, or were you talking about taking notes regarding any SE's with tamoxifen? I've downloaded a recording app and sometimes record Dr appointments, so I don't have to worry about taking notes. I'm not so diligent with SE's..I need to be better about keeping a journal.

MammaRay, Thinking of you! Remember, we are here for you..talk to us, about anything.

Junie, It's always so odd when the power is out for an extended time. It sounds like Kirby is going to be a handful!! May the weather gods work in your favor when it's time to get him. Let us know about the Cdiff results when you hear.

Loverly, those cupcakes look fantastic! So glad you made it home safely...driving with a spouse is SO stressful. Yes...nesting and getting ready for Christmas. I'm cooking food and running around like a crazy person!

Jazzy, Did you get your test results?

Jean, Can't wait to see pictures of kitten! I so wish I could have one, but then I couldn't breathe.

    Hugs all around!!

My MO took me off AI almost two months ago and the joint/bone pain improved, but then in the last couple of weeks when the weather got colder and rainy/snowy I have had more pain. When I went for pre op with PCP she tested me for Lupus as well as RA, and both are negative. I see MO on 12/12 and it will be interesting to see what he says. Not sure if the AI has caused permanent damage, or if something else is going on. I don't know if he'll send to to another Dr, or do more testing. I know he wants to start me on Tamoxifen, but part of me thinks that since I already have the AI pain, why not go back to that.

In the meantime, I was told to get a few sizes of a specific bra to wear post EX next week, but had trouble finding one size, so I've invested way too much time bra shopping this week. I got it done yesterday though. I have to go pick someone up at the airport today, and do some more cooking and paperwork. I have to leave you with a funny story...my kids can tell when I hug them that the expanders are hard and I've told them that when I get the implants they will be softer. This morning DD said to me, "I can't wait until I can feel your boobs when they are squishy!"
