He was going to shovel the walkway and driveway after we got snowed on overnight. Told him that he was to stay in and I took care of the shoveling. Was light enough that I could just push the snow aside with with the shovel. Tomorrow I start the countdown to Monday for him to go back to work

JunieB, you are a lovely woman! Don't put yourself down. You have a genuine, joyous smile. (And yes, Kirby is adorable!)

I saw a number of coopdizzle's (she passed at age 34 from triple neg BC on 12/1 - she was on another board) youtube videos, and in one of her last ones (departing words of wisdom) she admonished everyone to "stop being so down on yourselves about your looks!!" She said she wasted so much time putting herself down for years and years.

We all have to STOP doing that. (I'm also dealing with that with my 23 yo DD.) DD and I had a long talk last night after dinner over a nice glass of Zinfandel, and I told her that I was the same way when I was young - criticizing my acne scars, my big thighs, tiny boobs, etc. But when I look back at pics of myself then, I say, "Geez! I was actually pretty decent looking....compared to what I look like NOW." We all have the beauty of AGE and EXPERIENCE. People who are a little deeper than a shallow wading pool can see that from a mile away.

Was supposed to take the tree down this am, but DH told me the green bin recycle guys showed up TODAY instead of TOMORROW (criminy, the company called and said they'd be here Saturday, WTH?). Oh well...so "Anthony" (my DD names all of our living trees each year) will stay up a couple more days. He's still sucking up almost a cup of water each day from the tree reservoir, so he's not too dry yet. Get to spend another evening enjoying him with DD.

Okay, gotta get ready to go get my chemo pills and check in with my MO.

Oh Loverly! No, when I went to the new Doctor....last month...... I told HER I couldn't take Cipro.... I didn't have a UTI when I saw her.... My older Doc, that retired, is the one who prescribed the Cipro....and I had some left, but I thought I might as well take them..... (not remembering just how MUCH it could hurt)..... Hah!

Yes, it was Dr. Google, that I asked.... AFTER my shoulder went nuts the first time! We ARE smarter than the Doc's!

Lita.... isn't that funny how when we were growing up, and really DID look pretty good, we didn't even think about it? But we look back now, and think, if ONLY I could still have a little of that "look"..... but we are what we are! We can't care what other people think.... we are so used to presenting ourselves for other people....

I still always put my hair in hot rollers, and put my face on whenever we go anywhere.... old habits are hard to break, I guess.... But it does feel nice when someone says "You look nice today!"..... See, me and Theresa tell each other this... And when your family tells you the same, it just makes you feel good!

So if it makes you happy to put that face on, do it.... If not? Don't worry about it.... just make yourself happy!

Lita- I agree with you. I was very hard on myself as a younger person (not good enough, smart enough, pretty enough) and some of that was fed by my mother but I also took that on and repeated it to myself. Now I say I am doing the best I can every day.

No more perfection for me. Life has taught me it is exhausting and never possible.

Junie you are adorbs, as is your new puppy!

Junie lovely picture of you and Kirby, hope the training goes well.

Loverly how is your dad, is he still in the hospital? Are you taking care of yourself?

Susan I never have put boots on my dogs, but lots of people do, especially in our cold climate.

Our dog has stage 4 kidney disease, the last few days have been rough on him. I told my husband that we need to make a decision , he will be sixteen in February and has lead a happy pampered life.

awe, sorry lookforward. Ours will be 16 next month too. I didn't think she would make it till Christmas. As far as we know, Shelby has bone degeneration, blind in one eye, and can only hear certain pitches or loud noises. Her organs appear very healthy still. She limps, and is on pain meds.

    Stay warm everyone :

Junie, the picture of you and Kirby made my heart sing and put a big smile on my face. Looks like instant bonding. Kirby is a lucky pup to have you. Have fun with him! You were smart to pre-empt your neighbors who have a nasty streak.

    Prayers for MammaRay.

MOmmy, glad you have not given up on your classes. If you live near your school, they may have some job openings for students. Where I worked we had both work-study and non work-study jobs available.

Lover, I knew something was up when we hadn't heard from you. Sorry this happened to your dad, glad he is doing better. Has he seen the doctor yet for his follow up? He sounds like a very strong man. Keep us posted on how he is doing. Praying he gets over the residual effects of the accident soon.

Hope all those not feeling well will start feeling better soon.

I don't know which is worse, a hubby who whines when he's sick or one who is in complete denial that there is anything wrong with him. I have the later. He gave me a scare this evening. Was coming into the dining room for dinner and stopped to balance himself on a chair and started having jerky body movements. Wasn't answering me when I asked him what was wrong. Said he heard me but doesn't know why he didn't answer. His nephrologist took him off BP meds but it went high so today he picked up his prescription and took one. BP came down from this morning. I wanted him to go to the ER but I got "I'm fine. There's nothing wrong with me." Thinking back, a couple of months ago he was driving and had to pull over for me to get us back home. He had the feeling the road was coming up to him.

Had fun New Year's Eve thanks to a plumbing problem. Was bleeding the radiators (which I must confess I have neglected for a few years - that's a no, no). No problem with my first floor. Went upstairs and wasn't even getting air out of the radiators. While trying on the fourth one, told hubby to turn the heat up some to see if that would help push the water up. It wasn't even a minute when he calls up that we have a leak coming from the ceiling. Shut everything down. Turns out there was a pin hole leak in the pipe going to the bathroom radiator. Had an excellent plumber who shut down that pipe as a repair would be MAJOR. I was fine with that but now have a hole in my living room ceiling and one in the wall where the risers are. Getting an estimate tomorrow to repair those. UGH! The joys of home ownership - NOT. Ours is about 78 years old so I guess we were due for something to go wrong.

Chevy, you crack me up. So glad you and Spookie are back with us. You keep us on our toes and in line. Love your attitude about the weather. You would get a kick out of our NBC weather people. They call themselves the Storm Team regardless of the weather and it is always said with urgency in the voice even in 90+ degree temps and clear blue skies. They were calling for snow Thursday night in the early evening. Didn't come in until just before midnight and was a dusting. You thought we would be getting an snowmageddon. Yes, they use that term around here.

Night, night ladies. Good morning Feline. (I'm bad. I copped the phrase but it gets us all in.)

Kathindc, great post! Us California gals are such Weather Weenies!!! I went to my onco appt this afternoon, and it was 46 degrees, my God! Thought I was freezing in my three layers!!!

Gotta let it dump (sorry), just found out my first cousin was whacked OVER the head while coming out of her Hospice Care patient's house and RAPED!!! I am SO f'ing angry!!! My aunt just contacted me....she wanted to WAIT to see how it would all turn out...and it turns out my cousin now has "traumatic brain injury" with multiple seizures per day and may never be able to return to hospice care working. My cousin LOVED her job!! And now she won't be able to do it.

Really weird...haven't reached out to my aunt for a while, but got the msg from God to try and reach out. And now THIS! And I thought I was bummed earlier in the week about all the BCO cancer gals who've died this year....criminy sakes, it just NEVER ends!!!

Kath, my school is in New Hampshire. I would be doing classes online.

Well we thought we were not going to see any snow out of the storm coming today. Ha!!! We have been told to probably get 4 inches.

    Chevyboy Member Posts: 10,258

Morning gals! And it's 7 degrees out there! That is better than 0, right?

0 means nothing.... we have no degrees out there...

Yes Mom2.... Ours was a light snow also.... about 12 inches of fluffy cute snow, in nothing degrees.

Lita, I just tried to look as pretty as the other girls in school... and rolling my hair up in bobby-pins every night...Ha!

Lookforward.... I'm so sorry.... Lacee had Kidney disease also.... I tried for so many months to help her along... Even to the Vets every day for an IV.... the vet sitting on the floor holding her and the drip.... I would carry her home, after walking her, which she always loved to try... It just gets so hard on them.... and you.......It is never easy...

When I took her up for the last time, they let me walk right in to the back, and they came with the shots.... I held her the whole time, talking to her, and just trying to hold on to ..... everything.

But we did as much as we could for her.... and it was the happiest 11 years of our lives..... I'm sorry.

Sensitive!.... Yes, beautiful picture... I even see green bushes or something out the window! You live in Sacramento? I've been there a couple times... and love that whole country! My folks lived across the Bay in Richmond... and when I visited, we were always in the San Francisco area........

I was there visiting my Dad once, after my Mom passed away, And Sheri sent Brandon to me... picked him up at the air-port when he was 11, and we had the BEST sweetest trip together out there! I took him everywhere, and it was just magical!

Then the next time, it was Chase that came with me... Alcatraz, The Presidio, Lombard Street and our favorite Fisherman's Wharf... and that Clam Chowder... I have a picture of he and I standing on the Pier, looking over the little fishing boats, and he has his arm around me.... Aw geez... sometimes I just wish I could go back to those memories......

Kath.... It sounds like your Hubby had some kind of seizure? But he is okay now? No... they will not go to the Doctor.... unless even THEY are scared.

As long as they can move, however slightly, they will not go....My husband finally gave in, and I took him to Doc's when he could not go up a step without getting winded.

"Heart-block".... So after the Doc's, then to ER, then to his ROOM in the hospital, they put in a pace-maker. Saved his life! By then I was ready to just drop him OFF there, and let THEM figure it out!

But your house is only 78 years old? Ours is really old! It was built in 1886... A little Victorian... We moved here in 1964, but I grew up a block away from here.... so same neighborhood.

I love our house.... and yard! And I started painting the outside again last Summer.... I'll get it finished this year. Also the 2 little garages.

But yes.... the water, heating and all that other stuff can REALLY cause problems!

The City replaced the water mains last Summer also... So there was a LOT of rust coming through our pipes from the old lead mains.... It's okay now, but that scared us 1/2 to death, seeing that coming through your pipes! We bought bottled water for months!

Did you ever hear about that FUNNY weather guy? I mean he was talking about how bad this next storm was, and cussing up a storm! It CAN'T be a real forecaster, but he was hysterical!

Sheps and Spookie are probably out together somewhere.... seeing what mischief they can get into.... somewhere warm, hopefully!

Good morning friends- wishing everyone a good start to the weekend

Lita- that is such terrible news. I am glad you reached out to your aunt. I hope they can catch this person who did this. I pray she is better soon but the two things will require some recovery. Hugs friend.

Kath- as I read your note about your husband, my thought was TIAs, based on some similar things that happened with my mom. BP issues can cause these, thought of as mini strokes but don't leave permanent damage. However, as it happened for my mother, it was a warning sign before she had a major stroke. You need to get him in for evaluation. They found my mother's TIAs through some brain scans. Hugs sister, this is hard too.

Sensitive- such a wonderful pic. I think I recognize Loverly, Smarty, you and not sure who the final person is? You all look so healthy and happy and are clearly having a good time together!

Junie- hope you and Kirby are getting your routines established and enjoying each other's company. I agree with Teka, match made in heaven!

great picture ladies. I was jealous. Wish I would have met the you to sensie, and the other gal. Not sure who that is either.

Lisa, Hope and pray your cousin fully recovers. How sad

    8 degrees here. But sunny:)

I have itty bitty eyelashes, going today to see if I can get little extensions to make them nicer. Prob stupid thing to spend my money on, but oh well. When I went to the show last week, ran into someone who didn't recognize me. That happens all the time. I don't look anything like I did 5 years ago. Probably shouldn't care, so many more important things out there to worry about. But maybe it will make me feel better about myself.

    Stay safe and warm everyone:)

Kath, sorry to hear about your husband. Hope you figure out why it happened. Hu

Yes. Lover, Smaarty and PoppyQ and myself. Should've added names yesterday.

Chevy-yep Sacramento gal here. Born in Torrance, moved to Grass Valley when I was 7 so my dad could follow his passion of gold mining. Moved to Sac when I graduated high school and been here since. Don't make it to the Bay Area often, but love it. Need to take Chance back down to Baker beach, the off leash dog beach near the Golden Gate Bridge. Nice that you have the memories of your trips.

    Good morning everyone else

JunieB, it is so nice to put a face to a name. You and Kirby look so happy together. You must be sleep deprived by now. I don't like to have my picture taken either. We women are so hard on how we look. Maybe that is why plastic surgeons are rich. Ha!

Kath, bummer regarding your radiator. I have not dealt with one before. Does that mean you have no heat? I think Jazzy may be right about DH having TIAs or mini strokes. With history of high blood pressure, it put him at risk for strokes. I wish he would listen to you and go see a doctor ASAP. This won't get better by itself. Why are men so stubborn?

Lita, I am sorry to hear about your cousin. That is just horrible. Is she in California?

Jazzy, as a mom I have to be careful not to make critical comments about myself or my girls. Not that hard not to do especially comments about myself.

Forward, so sorry about your fur baby:( They don't live stay with us very long. I had to put down one of my dog a long time ago and it was tough. She had kidney failures from an infection in her leg. After she was hit by a car, her leg was never the same. I still have her ashes.

We are supposed to get heavy rain this weekend with possible flooding. The warm moisture comes in from Hawaii. The rain follows us home.

Time spent with the Sac ladies at lunch was winderfulyesterday. I can't believe we were at the restaurant for nearly four hours chit-chatting and laughing. Sensi is quite animated and at some point Peppy too. Ok, there were poking and prodding at the chest while sharing stories. Ha!

Dad pain has improved, but I noticed that he was quiet more than usual. Can't imagine being in the hard collar 24/7. His right deltoid is still sensitive. Light touch at the skin there hurts him. There is still swelling in the right back side of his neck. I massaged his back. Hopefully, that helps relieve some of the tension. He can only sleep in the recliner. Tried sleeping in his bed last night and couldn't. He loves to read, but can't hold up a magazine or book long. Imagine trying to read with a neck brace with limited movement in your arms. I need to look for a book stand for him. Reading helps keep his mind busy. I am concerned he may fall into depression if his mind is not stimulated. If you ladies have any suggestions, I am all ears. Thank you all for the well wishes and concerns for my dear Dad. It would be tougher to go through this alone without the emotional support.

Loverly- I bet you are a super good mom. I think women & girls are so often judged and criticized despite the fact WE DO EVERYTHING! We take care of the home, kids, aging parents, our jobs, make sure our bosses (or clients) always look good. So I am all about helping to raise all females up in the world! Life is hard enough without all the put downs, right?

Lira, so sorry to hear about your cousin. I'll keep her in my prayers for physical and emotional healing.

Lover, we have heat except in the bathroom radiator. That supply pipe got capped off. Luckily, the bathroom is small. To fix that, they would have had to rip up the bathroom floor which does have concrete under the tiles and rip up the walls even more. The bathroom use to get too hot because the supply pipe runs under the floor from one side of the room to the other to get to the radiator. Always had to have a rug down in the winter to protect bare feet.

Thank you all for your in put on my hubby. Have to work on him to get him to realize this needs to be checked out sooner rather than later. He has always put his health off to the point he ends up with extra problems. Stubborn mule, he is. His blood pressure is back in the normal range since he is back on meds for it. Thank goodness I had him ask his nephrologist about it since she took him off of it entirely in the summer.

Our "snow storm" came in six hours later than predicted. Don't think it even was an inch.

    Juni, how is Kirby?
