Sassy, sounds like you've got a great head start with Nick if he has manners, helps willingly, and recognizes boundaries. So pleased to hear that.
Had my checkup with oral surgeon today, he says the gums are healing really well. He wants me back in 4 weeks to install the 2 lower posts. Then we went to the dentist, who re-lined the dentures. I've had them in for 9 hours now, and they're just a little uncomfortable. I tried to eat a hotdog, but still having trouble getting used to the different way of chewing. When you bite on something with your normal teeth, they are stable in your gums, but when you bite with dentures, there is some give as the gums provide a cushion for the plate. So when you bite down there's like a two-step process to it. I didn't realize that when I was eating the hotdog, and ended up cutting it up and eating it with a fork. It was later, when i was eating cookies, that I noticed the different way biting happens. Anyway, I'm going to go take them out now. My sis is coming tomorrow for the weekend, and we're going to have Chinese food tomorrow night. Wish me luck.
Later.

Sassy, the only thing I can remember about armadillos is that they carry the leprosy gene. Please keep your dogs and cats safe from the little armored beasts.

Got woke up at 2 a.m. Apparently there had been an accident involving a SUV and the fire hydrant across the street from me. Hubby and I were awakened by Jackson barking at the commotion of the vehicle being prepped to be towed away on a flatbed. The fire hydrant got knocked down but at least it wasn't damaged to the point of water spewing everywhere.

Hi Ladies! So sorry to go AWOL, was frantically prepping to go on a road trip vacation!
Sensi, I ADORE Chance's pool! I can't show Angus or he'll want one. We have a stream close to the house, and take him to the river (less than a mile away) as often as we can, but those things wouldn't suffice is he saw what a lucky dog Chance is
sassy, thanks for posting the link. I'm not sure that what's posted so far is rocket science, but hopefully others will post additional info and it will help some folks
I'll be radio silent for about 10 days, so peace and light to you all til next time!

Have fun Mtw."Road Trippppppppppp"(animal farm). What was the movie with Belushi on a college campus?
Hellllllo Jo glad you found us. Come back often. What was the Goddess threads full name?
Everyone Jo1955 and I met here in the early days of insomniacs. She created a really fun thread and then left for awhile. She recently returned.
Mags, Yes, manners are at the top of the list for sure. I have a bias against folks that use a lot of "andum's and buttum's" or "like". "etc, etc" "you know". Nick has none of those quirks. He has asked Donnie to tell him if there is anything that I'm concerned about which came out when I was telling Donnie to talk to him about his room. Also, going to have to press Donnie to pick his clothes up more if I'm going to require it of Nick. My Aunt Shirley used to throw her kids clothes on the front lawn or have them sent how from school if they didn't have there PJ's under their pillow. Stories about her were shared and laughed about in the family lore. How I used it with Greg early after we got married was to say, I'd put his jeans in the trash the next time he left them on the floor. Only had to put them in the trash once. He became this neatness guru.
Nick is working with Donnie. Donnie is a "do it right" type worker. He related that he made Nick redo something the other day b/c it was shoddily done. Nick's a quick learner.
A HVAC person that does quality work is the key to a good HVAC system. I know that sounds strange, but when I was researching for a new system. Consistently, statements were made about manufactures not being so different from each other b/c of energy mandates. The installer of the system is the difference in how a system will work. Lot's of jobs for HVAC folks in Florida.
We have been eating dinner at the dining table versus in front of the TV. I'm cooking more dinners. Hahaha, Nick's good for us too! His comment the first night was he couldn't remember the last time he had a home cooked meal.
Mags the new world of dentures. Bummer. I hope this soon eases and it becomes an after thought. How long are you post-op?

Mommy, the neighbors from hell. Do you know a nice lawyer that can send them a letter?
Wenchi, I did learn that when he killed the one on the pool deck. I first called the Public health dept. after google told me about the leprosy. I was concerned about rabies. They referred me to Wildlife Management. They said that the leprosy thing wasn't really true. Duh, it's in Wiki. Rabies is a rare occurrence and had only been reported in the north of Florida. If you hear of any thing else pass it on

sassy, My mother (in NC) had a raccoon pacing back and forth across her back yard fence during the day. She reported it as she has a smaller dog (and dog door ) The local animal control came out to get it as that is a sign they may have rabies. Raccoons are nocturnal and regular daytime activity or agitation should be reported.
0 -
Mtw that was my concern when the Armidillo was trying to get in the backdoor on the pool deck. I never heard of an Armidillo trying to get into a house. But all the people I called said not to worry. Weird. Plus, almost forgot. On the dogs run, which is a 0.8 mile, long stretch of road. A raccoon came running down the middle of the road at the dogs. Dini killed it. Not sure why Donnie didn't tell me about it. That was very bizarre behavior. Of course, I thought rabies. But by then the carcass wasn't available and it was beyond the quarantine time. At that point, I did nothing. Maybe I still should have reported it????????

Needless to say animals that meet up with Dini, don't fare well.
0 -
remind me not to mess around with Dini I have never heard of an Armadillo trying to get into someone's house! Holy cow, that kind of unusual behavior would make me think "rabies" as well. I would certainly be concerned about any of my precious fur-babies getting bitten by a rabid anything.

Accident from early this morninghad nothing to do with the neighbors that are pains. The city Water Dept. came and took the busted hydrant away today and left behind and orange cone turned upside down in the hole where the hydrant had been.

Mommy Good, glad they weren't the awful neighbors. Nice to know you have a hydrant so close. You get a discount on your homeowners insurance b/c of that if you tell them. That was likely covered when you first took a homeowners insurance policy. I'm such a nerd............trivia stuff

I keep a 22 rifle at the front and back door just in case a crazy trash panda shows up. So far just fat healthy young ones come during the day. I think they are a young pair and they live in the hayloft of our barn. I'd have no problem shooting a crazy one.

Mtw When the armadillo thing happened. The whole story ----------Dogs aggressively alerted at the front of the house. I checked the front --nothing. Then they went nuts alerting at the back of the house about ten minutes later. My thought was a bad guy. I opened the door to let the dogs out. I saw what appeared to be a tail---rat like. Then on the pool deck an awful scuffle....I called them off. Shat's came right away. Dini didn't. But came soon enough. Considering he has the kill instinct, he responded to the "call off" very rapidly. He had already killed it.
Now all of it may seem bad . The killing and all. But it was late at night. Both dogs alerting in a very different manner than usual. The alerting was very worried/aggressive which was unusual. First at the front then at the back. The front may have not been related to the back, but there was enough time between alerting's that it could have been a break in. I was using my protectors when I opened that door.
Even though I was terrified of Dini when he came to live here, I have learned he his my protector. He has learned love. It's very nice in both directions.

Wenchi, Trash panda--never heard that before. Hahaahaha. I wish I was gun smart, but can't be according to the laws I think b/c I have had counseling for PTSD related to all the cancers............Never seriously checked it out b/c I don't want someone saying I can't qualify. Bummed

Hubby saw my neighbors from across the street (the party house) getting a delivery of party goods this morning. We were out on the front lawn doing some yard working and I stated in a very loud voice that if there is any noise after 9 p.m. the cops will be called. Not putting up losing sleep over their parties anymore. If I am labelled the "neighbor from Hades" so be it!
0 -
Just my 2 cents, but it might not hurt to just go across the street, introduce yourself, and TELL THEM that you have FUCKING CANCER! If they want to party, but just bring it INSIDE the house after a certain time and close their DAMN windows so you don't have to hear it.
I know it's not my place to advise, and I'm usually a pretty low-key, keep-my-nose-out-of-other-people's-biz type of person, but it couldn't hurt.
I had to deal with "los Cubanos del infierno" (the Cuban neighbors from hell) some years back. They lived across the street & were the WORST. They had a little boy who - I kid you not - would run up and down the damn street at 2:00 in the morning while their parties raged on and on. And a lot of times these parties were on a WEEK NIGHT to boot! I called the cops on them all the time. Even earplugs wouldn't shut their noise out.
These people you're dealing with may be more reasonable. Try talking to them and see what happens. If they aren't then call the cops.
Do you have a neighborhood association? They can help. Do the neighbors own the house? If not, do a title search and get a hold of the landlord.
What finally got the "Cubanos" out was the combined action of all us neighbors (we weren't the only ones who couldn't sleep...). We contacted the landlords and had the POLICE contact them, too. Where I live, if the cops get contacted too many times, they will $$ site the landlords and push for eviction because of too many disturbing the peace violations. And that's exactly what happened the "Cubanos" got evicted.
Good Luck!

We have a neighborhood association and we do try to get stuff like this squashed, but it doesn't matter to the repeat offenders. The new neighbors don't give a flip about being polite and keeping the noise down or that someone in the neighborhood have a serious illness. They are young, very rude and act like they own the block and can do whatever they want without facing the consequencesof disturbing the peace just because they own a home my street. It's bad enough that they keep me and my hubby from sleeping, but they also keep my dog awake and he gets really grumpy.

Then keep calling the police. Unfortunately that's all you can do.
Earplugs don't work after a while.
The Edit/Delete key is NOT available on my previous post as of 5/27/17. Sorry, I did not mean to offend any one, especialy since I am Latina myself.
I put the words in my previous post in quotation marks to set them apart, so as not to offend anyone.....well, apparently THAT didn't work either.
As of now, I am signing off FOREVER from this particular thread.
My love, prayers, and best wishes are with all of you, my dear ladies.
Goodbye and good luck,
L

I am going to do just that until they learn that I am not playing games or making idle threats.

Sassy - The full name of the thread I created is Bonfire of the Goddess. Seriously, I can't believe it's still active. Firecracker has been keeping it going. It's kind of slow right now. Forum: Moving Beyond Cancer
I haven't been on BCO for a few days. Been busy getting things ready to leave for the summer. After hubby and I retired from the job we had in the RV park we are living in, we bought a 24 foot travel trailer and have been going to Ohio and spending 4 months with my family. It's so hot in South Texas and we prefer the cooler temps there. We are leaving Saturday and I don't have much done. Sometimes, I feel like I try and pack my entire house in a small camper. I clean my house before we go so I don't have to deal with it in the fall. All the doctor appointments are out of the way until Oct. Mail forwarding has been taken care of. Heck, I still have a long list. Thursday and Friday will be the really busy days. Hopefully we can pull out early Saturday morning and will be in Ohio sometime on Tuesday. We could do it in a couple of days but why hurry when we don't have to.
I will have internet the entire summer so I will pop in and out when I can. My family keeps me busy and we have lots of fun.

Lita please, edit your post to take out explectives and racial derogatories Thanks
0 -
As I type this, Lita's post has been public for TEN HOURS for lurkers and thread members to read.
Encouraging a curse filled confrontation with neighbors is a potentially dangerous thing to do. The language used in that piece of "advice" is not acceptable.
The repeated use of racial slurs is totally unacceptable.
I cannot understand how it is that the other members of this thread just sit and stay silent when such hateful and unpleasant posts are made.
I truly do love this group. Please, please.....let us all stick together and keep Insomniacs the "Safe Haven" it was intended to be.

...TEN HOURS...
I'm sorry...again. It's Memorial Day Weekend. I was off "trying" to live my life without thinking about STAGE 4 CANCER AND MY PROGRESSION for a few hours. The edit/delete keys were somehow disabled on my previous post, but that's okay.
I wish you all good luck, prosperity, and wonderful lives.
Dulces suenas y buena suerte, mis hermanas y amigas. (Sweet dreams and good luck, my sisters and friends)
I will not be posting on this thread ever again.

Oh boy! Thank you Lita for editing your post. Best wishes to you too.

Wait! I thought it was edited. How weird!! Perhaps the Mod can help delete the post.

What am I going to do with y'all? Can't leave you alone for a few days.
Mommy, I really hope you have good report tomorrow regarding your inconsiderate neighbors.
MT, have a fun and safe trip. I am glad Shep didn't scare you away.
Drove to LA early Friday morning to pick up DD and helped her move back home for the summer. Nice to have her home. Getting really sleepy but wanted to post a picture of Mitzy enjoying herself at our friends' place while we were away.
She is a character!!!

Neighbors must have gotten the message that I am not going to put up with their nonsense anymore. Their party broke up well before the noise ordinance kicked in. Felt good to not have to call the cops.
