Hi Teka, I've never tired of Donnie, but it hasn't been easy. Yes, I've put his clothes either over the gate or at the gate a few times the first two years, and once at the garage door. That was sometime last year. Not sure when. I would describe us in equilibrium now, with each year better than the last. It's 5 years now. When we got together, I told him my expectations in regard to "Care and regard" in a relationship. He'd never had that kind of relationship.

Yes, I worry over Nick, but we will continue to talk expectations. The kid is at a make or break point. He's never had a family life. He's actually in pretty good shape when his history is considered.

    BBL they just got home.

So tired now. Idiot neighbor kept me awake playing their music so loud I could hear it over my bedroom fan until I finally crashed around midnight. Called the cops about the noise but I don't think they showed up. We do have a noise ordinance, but I doubt it is really enforced.

I returned the phone I didn't like and decided to just keep my old Samsung phone, but since it was bought from AT&T, they have to unlock it, so I can use the SIM card from the new provider. Well guess what, AT&T stores here went on strike on Friday and the unlocking process takes 24-48 hours (business days that is). So here I sit waiting until possibly Tuesday or Wednesday to have phone service again. Thankfully a neighbor reminded me that by law I still have access to 911 if I should need it. That is something I guess. But lets hope I don't need it.

The lady who gave me her vanilla recipe happens to have some 5 mos. old vanilla and is willing to sell me a bottle for $5.00, so I'll do that so I can get my own bottle started.

Sas - Some companies like Watkins use Madagascar Bourbon. I had other people tell me they have used rum, and as I shared previously, the recipe I have uses vodka. I will be using a vodka made here in Oregon. It is Mount St. Helen's Vodka with 10 vanilla beans. I think Amazon has the beans for $9.00 a lb., and 10 won't come any were near that. Pour enough of the vodka out into another container to allow you to put the 10 split vanilla beans in, then place bottle in paper bag and then place it in a dark closet. Turn bottle upside down & around, without shaking, and return to closet. 6 mos. makes an excellent finished vanilla. Then when you give it to friends or store for your own use, store it in dark glass bottles.

This vanilla has such an incredible flavor that your baked goods are amazing. In my experience, no mass produced product can come even close to it.

Wren - The clean-up party in your area sounds like a lot of fun. As they say, many hands make the work lite.

Hey Feline - How are you? How is the weather there? It is gonna hit the 90's for the next week or so here. Yuck!

Wenchie - Your garden is looking excellent. How long until you get to start reaping the fruits of your labor?

I am probably going on the bus and train to Portland with a neighbor one day next week. Was going to take the Kirbster with, but have decided that the heat will be too much for him, so he'll be chillaxen here at home. He needs to find a buddy to play with. The neighbor dogs close to his size are all older and unwilling to deal with a wiggly energetic puppy. He tried to say "Hi" to a neighbors' cat and got whapped across the nose. Fortunately the cats' claws had just been trimmed and so no harm done. He needs to have a play date or something.

Sensi, Loverly, PoppyQ - Nice to see your smiling faces. Beautiful pic of you all.

Loverly - There is a movie being shown at select theaters on May 23rd that you might be interested in. It is about the 6 day war for Jerusalem in 1967. It is showing on the 23rd ONLY. So if you are interested, check out inourhands1967.com for more info.

Sensi - Quite the curls you have there. Is your hair normally straight? How is Mr. Chance?

Sheppers - Sorry I can't call like I told you I would, but will do so as soon as this phone issue is cleared up.

Mags - Hi there! How are you doing? I think you said your going on a vacation? Have a fun time and please share pics.

Ok, I am going to say by for now. Have a great rest of the weekend everyone.

Ah-Hah Poppy, I now have a face with a name. That always works well :)

Mags awesome back at you. You will be my #1 resource :). I know that long post was difficult when you're tired. The entirety was appreciated. I had to think when you wrote "(best written)'. I hope I don't make it as complicated or as anal as Sheldon Coopers roommate agreement(Big Bang Theory). I'll put some note's together and call this week about it.

Buggers on the xeloda making you sleep so much. Is there a xeloda thread? Was the Ritalin(?)ADDADHD drug prescribed b/c of the sleepiness? I get confused as to who's taking what, when, and how.

Wenchie, yes, the "things that make you go Hmmmmmmmmmm", often lead to good things like Dirt etc. Hahaha. The pic of the garden is great. What have you planted? Do you plant things so they mature at a different rate. What is that thing in the top left corner? It looks like it's separated from the rest. What's in the bottom center near the wheelbarrow? It will be fun to see your pictures as it matures. Where's the pond? Do you fish in it?

YAY party, have a great time..................

Hootie Hooooooooooo Patty or maybe Hottie Hooooooooooo is better. I posted then noticed the misspelling of Hootie as Hottie. You can be a Hottie now

Wren that sounds so nice. Have fun

Thanks FFeline...I'm thinking after reading Mags story. That if he does better than he's doing now when it's done, that will be very good. Both he and Donnie had a tough day. Donnie agreed to a job some distance away. He didn't ask and they didn't say that the air handler was in the attic. Nick vomited a couple of times from the heat and Donnie was wupped when he got home. When we start working on the career thing, today's misadventure may help.

Junie, the recipe sounds divine. Now can you drink it like a liquor? laugh, I'm suspecting you can do this with a lot of the liquors like Orange, strawberry, apple etc. Thinking about DS Stephen finding bottles of liquor in the closets. I'm basically, a wine person, so that would be a surprise.

Swam today, paining now, but worth it. Gorgeous crystal clear blue skies day and the water was perfect.

    Happy Saturday

JunieB ~ whatta bunch of bs that phone company is giving you! I was going to PM you but thought maybe my advice might be helpful to someone else having the same problems.

Have you called AT&T directly? They can unlock your cell over the phone. You'd have to use a friend's phone I reckon 😛 Their website also has a section for unlocking phones online.

The new carrier you are switching to should have offered you a loaner...... every office has at least one bin of unsellable but still working phones.

If all else fails, Wal-Mart and Best 8uy sell decent "cheapo" phones for around $20. Some of the over $20 phones they sell are pretty darn nice, very reasonably priced and sure beat the heck out of getting stuck in a contract! Most are name brands. 🐸

If you buy a phone from a store, double check with the clerk the phone is unlocked (most are). Remember that AT&T and T-Mobile will only work on a GSM network. Sprint, Verizon and U.S. Cellular only work on a CDMA network.

AT&T by FCC law cannot make you wait more than two business days after your request to unlock your phone. I don't recall ever hearing about anyone ever having to wait. Totally unacceptable!

Let me know if any of this helped.

    Missing our Saturday visit 😞

SAS, our English Bulldog Sofia is a RESCUE. We got her when she was two and a half.

Her previous owner was suffering from post-partum depression and just wanted to dump poor Sofia at the city pound. Thankfully, the woman's teenage son talked her into returning Sofia to the breeder, so she became a "rescue/return". Incidentally, you're SUPPOSED to return the dog to the breeder if you can't keep it...it's part of the contract with reputable breeders, so that mom must have really been out of it.

When we got Sofia (we kept the same name to make it easier on her), the breeder showed us her pedigree, and we discovered that our late Tiffy is actually Sofia's great great aunt and that Sofia's breeder is friends with our late Tiffy's breeder. The reputable AKC Northern California Bulldog world is a small world. Sadly however, there are a lot of unscrupulous backyard breeders and puppy mills out there, so a lot of the rescue Bulldogs are in pretty bad shape, requiring lots of rehab and vet expenses.

We got really lucky with our sweet Sofia.

Ms. Sas, we are flying out to Amsterdam on June 12th and won't be back until the 28th. Most likely I won't be posting during vacation. Roaming rate is crazy expensive. Will try though if we have wi-fi.

Regarding the Governor's comment.....my first reaction:

    image

I didn't want to respond yesterday as I was quite upset. He lost my respect. Yes, our roads and infrastructures need fixing and I understand that we all need to do our duty in contributing, but what about responsible government spending. Who are the freeloaders? We pay at least 40 income tax among other taxes. Why work hard? Ok I better stop here before I get myself into trouble.

Patty, my garden is actually pretty easy to look after. There's no weeds to be pulled, the grass that's growing on the sides adds more color and helps hold some of the water in the bales. I made my rows wide enough so I can get our push mower between the bales and mowe instead of pulling.

Sassy, the thing in the upper left corner is my strawberry "stand". Stu made a platform from a pallet and scrap wood that was laying around. It keeps my strawberries up off the ground so maybe we'll get to eat more than the birds and critters. The thing in the lower portion by the wheel barrow is some plastic I put down to kill off any weeds before they start. I'll spread some preen weed and feed to help ward off any weeds from starting there and I got some monster tomato plant seeds so when they are ready to be put out I'll put them where the plastic is. The tomatoes get so big that they'll need to lay on the ground instead of putting a cage around them. I have all kinds of veggies planted. Sweet peas, bush beans, okra, different lettuces, radishes, broccoli, turnips, peppers, tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers and zucchini. We got to eat some of our radishes for lunch yesterday and the silly things are growing above the bale instead of into the bale. They are very crunchy and probably the most juicy radishes we've ever eaten. All of the lettuces, spinach and romane are almost ready for picking and salad making. Stu and I will be putting in my mushroom garden this afternoon. I've never grown mushrooms before so it will be a learning experience for sure.

We had a great time at the party yesterday. We got there about 3:30 and headed home around 10 last night. I lasted a lot longer than I thought I would. The crawfish were to spicy for me to eat which was a bummer. I was craving for an ear of corn and by the time I got one it had soaked up more of the spices than the crawfish did and I couldn't eat it either so I ended up having a plan old burger.

Hi Junie, it is summer in Ireland which means some cloudy, windy days, some hot days with Miami-like tropical afternoon showers, some warm and windy days, some warm and calm days...one thing is certain, weather is never boring in Ireland! The hedgerows are exploding with growth, the bird population is doubled as our migratory birds come back for summer to join the year round population. So many swallows! There is a saying here "one swallow doesn't make a summer". Well standing waiting outside DD's school last week I just lost count. It is definitely summer!

    Nerdy

DD had a ballet solo award exam in Dublin on Friday. Truly I was much more stressed (inside) than she was. Terror of forgetting some piece of costume or hair paraphenelia. Terror of car breaking down on the way etc etc Once over, and DD happy with how it went felt like a great weight off MY shoulders. (LOL!) Then guess what, very next morning (yesterday, the day after the ballet exam) I had to drive to the midlands in Ireland, where I was due to attend a conference and to collect 3 prizes. One hour into the journey MY CAR BROKE DOWN!!!!! My first thought was THANK GOD this happened today and not yesterday! Thankfully I am in AA (like AAA in US) and was covered for tow truck, replacement hire car etc. Actually got to the conference and prizegiving by 2pm! As the prize ceremony was in afternoon I didn't miss it. Really it was a miracle of timing!

Is there someone out there calling for Eeyore? Eeyore is hiding. It is raining outside, and it is even gloomier inside. Progression, and back to chemo. Oh bother!

Wonder how Susan handles her chemo for so many years? Susan, how are you doing these days?

Sensi, my hair after first chemo came out just like yours, so curly that my hairdresser had to use a cold perm to straighten the curls. Don't know what it will be like after this chemo is done. Oh bother!

    Loveroflife Member Posts: 4,243

Feline, praise God indeed for the timing and His providence. We do miss out on the blessings if we look at our circumstances under the wrong lense.

Wow! That is a huge bonfire! Lori, sorry you couldn't enjoy the crawfish. I would have eaten your share for you. Ha! Cajun Crawfish and beer....my mouth is watering as I am typing. Your garden is coming along nicely. So wonderful to see the fruits of your labor.

Ms. Sas, you and Donnie will make great impact on Nick's future. With guidance, boundary, and love it's the best thing you can do for this kid. Kids (adults too) need to feel that they are loved and are significant. Bless your heart for taking the kid in.

Junie, thank you for the info.. I learn to appreciate history much more now as an adult.

Sensi, you crack me up! I will volunteer my camera next time. No medicine for this control freak here. Ha! I was too busy trying to fix my messy hair and forgot to suck in my muffin top. 😂 Who is vain? Not I. I do like the cropped version so much better.

Shepk, I think YOU scared MT away.

Oh Eeyore!! I thought you moved to Asia. Hate the word progression with a passion. I am sorry.

Lita, what a lovely story :) about both Sophia's in different ways. I liked hearing about the breeding history. Far enough apart that any negatives would not likely be trouble. Then on the flip side nice to know they are related.

I had one person call and ask if we would take the pup back. It was a crazy time. I was by then prego and 3 dogs. Work was super active etc etc. Anywhooses, I regret to this day that I didn't take her back. Brittanies are super super high energy dogs and it takes work the first two years to train them well. Then they are marvelous.

DS and wife have a puppy mill boxer. It was her's and she's not very knowledgeable about dogs. Serious health issues. Whereas, Steve picked out Schatzi after 21 weekly trips to the SPCA here or the pound in Tallahhassee while at Florida State. She's a great dog. He has the "eye" I was impressed that he had the fortitude to wait till he saw the right one for him. She'a 80lbs of wig-wagging happiness.

The cutest thing is when Donnie and I are kissing, she jumps right up and plows into kiss too. Happy. happy girl. Actually, joyful. Makes us laugh so much.

Loverly, Hahahah about your picture of Moonbeam. I know you have other taxes that make it near 50%. The state is a very bad manager of money. I'll only say one thing and then leave it alone. Socialism always fails in the end.

YAY Mommy celebrate, a full nights sleep. I can't even remember one.

Wenchie, the garden sounds fabulous. My mom described her dad as always having seeds in his pocket. When he'd pick something he's put another seed in. I asked how he kept the seeds separated to know what he planted, but I forget the response. I thought the first part quite clever, ergo, it stuck in my memory. It will be interesting to see how the mushrooms grow. I never had a fresh picked Shroom. ......Sounds like it was a wonderful afternoon, the bonfire and lantrens are fun

Eeyore and Lita, I'm so sorry to hear of the progression! I'm sending up extra special prayers for both of you!

Sensi, Stu told me last night my hair was going to look funny if it keeps coming in the way it is. He says it's straight on top but curly in the back. Looks like I may have some curls too.

Sassy, here's a picture of my strawberry "stand". I couldn't believe how many wild strawberry patches we have this year! I raised my mower deck up so I wouldn't chop up the berries, the property is covered in them! No wonder the geese are coming right up to the house, their eating wild strawberries. They better not get into my strawberries!

    image

We got home from the party about 11pm Saturday night. I finally fell asleep around 1am and I slept until 2:30pm the next day! Boy was I wiped out! Stu always laughs and tells me I've gotten in the habit of getting up just in time to go to bed. I hung out in my garden for a little bit this morning then jumped on Sporty and spent 4 hours mowing the lawn. I started a fire in our fire pit last night so I could get fresh ashes for my mushroom garden that I'm finishing tomorrow after my MO appointment. It's just a follow up for a skin check and to get my prescription for Tamoxifen. Next step soon to start on this crappy BC journey.

Fire pit christening last night. We put the fire pit in over a year ago and I finally used it for the first time last night. You can say I'm pretty slow at doing things, what's the hurry?
