Sas, I was about 14 years old when I went on the Grand Canyon trip, and I didn't let the snow get me down. I continued to hike and backpack in the Sierras of California thru grad school.
Dh is not real keen on camping, but he might be up for "glamping" in a rental rv.
I'd love to return to the Grand Canyon b4 I transition. Hope to do it in an rv so no fears about late spring snow storms 😄.

Thanks MTw sounds fun.
Mommy can folks PM you for questions about your company?

Sure they can. I will answer whatever questions they have

Also, if you know anyone who cruises the western Caribbean, ask them to pick up a bottle of vanilla in Cozumel. We've cruised there half a dozen times and I always pick up several bottles at the dockside shops where they were like $4-5 for a half pint bottle and awesome flavor. I give some as gifts and always save one or two. We still have some in the fridge from our disastrous cruise 3 years ago.
Well, 14 days till our annual trip to St. Louis friends for their picnic. We'll leave on Thursday, it takes roughly 8 hours, and have a while to rest before we all go to Hooters to play trivia. We've not done the Hooters trivia with them but we did have a trivia tournament with them last fall and it was fun. When I mentioned it to DH his reaction was "Ugh I hate Hooters!" (Has he ever been to one? I haven't.) Then, "We will have just been on the road for 8 hours." So? We'll probably have an hour or so to rest, he can take a power nap. This is typical for him. I will mention something I'd like to do and he will shoot it down, find all the faults, and then his mind accepts it as a done deal and there's no argument. I won't mention it to him again, and you'll see, by the time we get to St. Louis it will be "Let me take a nap before we go to trivia." The man is predictable that way.
I had one of those 4 hour nap attempts that failed. My mind was going a mile a minute, packing for the trip, playing solitaire, listening to the dog bark. So I finally gave up. Thought I'd check in with y'all. See ya later.

Welcome MT! Does that stand for MIGHTY? Love your water, btw. Our water here in the valley tastes terrible. Stayed in West Yellowstone, Montana a few years ago. I couldn't believe how sweet MT water was straight from the faucet....better than Evian. Ha!
Hey Mags(and you too Shep), here wishing you excellent response with Xeloda with minimal side effects. You gonna go to Hooters? I don't think I could eat there. I would be to busy Gibbs slapping DH.
Didn't know you can make your own vanilla. I used to use vanilla extract from Mexico until I saw that most contain propylene glycol. I prefer alcohol over PG. AND NO vanilla Rum for you Ms. Sas!!!
JunieB, do you have a Marshalls or Ross near you? I found pure vanilla extract for a decent price (4 OZ for $5.99).

Hey Ya'll!
I've been lurking but still too ucky to do much posting. Thhhhhhp!
Wenchie ~ LOVE your little gardening Sporty Jr. Now you need to get some John Deere stickers for it. Then I can come over and hook you up to the trailer hitch on my John Deere Scooter and tote you around the yard! Hope your allergies get better
M0mmy ~ Hair is so weird, the way it grows or doesn't. Mine was long enough to sit on when I was in 2nd grade. Those were the days before coated hair bands and scrunchies - remember that? I hated how much it hurt getting the elastics out of my hair. Plus I was a tomboy with no interest in messing with my hair. I had it cut short and it never did grow really long again. Mid back is the longest so far. I envy you having such long locks all the way through high school up to adulthood. Maybe since your hair was long until your chemo, it will still be "programmed" to grow down to your waist again? I'd love the info on your vanilla business. My goodness, you are a woman of many talents!
Sassy's playing in the dirt? Wenchie, can we fit her in the back of your Sporty Jr.? I'll tote both of ya around the garden!
Wren ~ Hope the sun comes out for you tomorrow. How is Sir Squeakers? Did you ever finish the body harness you were working on for him? I wish my Pris wasn't so timid and that I had introduced her to a leash right off. My heart kitty was a big fraidy cat for a long time. He became a little bit braver when he was 5 and I was able to take him on short leash walks. Maybe there's hope for Pris?
Loverly ~ I teased you about putting clothes on Mitzy to stop her shedding mess. But then I saw this:
"a safe and easy way to contain dog hair, reduce dirt, dander..... "
I got nothin' to say 🙄
MTwoman ~ Welcome! You must tell us all about the baby in your avatar. And post some more pics of your pup. And any other fur-babies you may have. It's a newbie to the thread requirement. You are also encouraged to post as many pics you can find of morbidly obese men in either their undies or teeny tiny thongs. Sexy shirtless poses are also appropriate. Snow in May is horrible! I sorta grew up in MA where the weather was totally psychotic. Once on the day after Mother's Day we had a couple of inches of snow. The day started off beautiful, sunny and warm. The snow started just as school let out - we all were dressed in summery clothes....gah! it was cold. My Mom's tulips had just come up and were buried under the nasty white stuff. I moved back down South as an adult. I can't tell you how many times I've flown up to visit for Christmas and rushed out of the house wearing either sandals or slip-ons with out socks. And every-time there has been 20 feet of snow when the plane landed in Boston. I feel your flip-flop pain 😥 May warmer days return to you soon!
Mags ~ Crossing fingers and toes that you continue to see good results from the Xeloda. Sending healing thoughts your way for your poor mouth to somehow start feeling better. I am so happy for you that you not only have a wonderful relationship with your son, but with his MIL as well! My FFH has a similar relationship with his father. Our families have become so close over the years that they bought a house just around the corner from us. My MIL has become one of my dearest friends. Yay for happy stuff! Wishing you more and more happy and comfortable days 😊
JunieB! ~ is Saturday the day you will have the new phone? What a pain in the bum! I had gotten a new phone through my carrier a few years back that I hated. I was able to return it right away, but was charged $50 because I was switching from a Windows phone to an Android. (Jerks) What phone will you get next? There's so many to choose from now; I don't know what I'd get if mine broke. Good luck! Love, love the pics and stories of young Master Kirby. He truly is a special boy. The phrase "old soul" keeps coming to mind - the way he knows how to behave and observes everything around him. Kiss him on his sweet little forehead for me. Hoping your headaches ease up. And all your other aches too! We've got a lot of catching up to do on Saturday! 🤠
Big hugs and lotsa love to all the Owlies ~ My Sisters and my Strength 💖

Do you think Mitzy would appreciate this look? I think pink is her color.
MT, you need to watch out for Shepkitty. Seriously! Please no Michelin men in floss. Shep is the only one who gets excited when she sees them.
Lita, Sofia looks so serious Love peonies.
Aya! Way pass my bedtime. Nite nite.
Morning my friend from the other side of the world

Shep, I would be delighted to speak with you on it. Check you messages.
I do remember the days before the coated hair bands and scrunchies. Getting a rubber band out of the hair hurt!
0 -
Remember the rubber swim caps?
0 -
Yes I do. Never wore one but I do remember them

Loverly, I needed you for something. Damn Can't think of it now.. ..How long before your trip? JUne right? Are you going to post while you are gone? How did you like Governor Moonbeam calling California taxpayers freeloaders? Was there much local outrage? The state is going under financially and Moonbeam calls the citizens freeloaders.
Who was going to Hooters mags or Shep? I agree Gibbs head slap. I did it once with Greg. He had a concussion before we left. I've asked Donnie to take me to a strip club. I wanted to see what it's like. Donnie's so funny. Very protective. No,no,no and more no. I bring it up every once and awhile to see him get protective. Reminds me on our first date. I wore a top that showed a little bit of cleavage which was a first time(ever). He said cover up, no one needs to see that but me. Hahahahaha It was so sweet.
Check out the label on the vanilla extract. If it's not pure, the chemicals will scare the hell out of you. They had a description on the fb feed. Awful stuff.
I think it sounds real fun Loverly, making my own aperitif. I just have to stay off the phone after the third one.

Lita I don't think I've seen your baby before Sophia. How old? You doing good
Shep, not sure how much dirt I'll be playing in. The good stuff is over. Wandered into dust and then got into some stuff that was an "Oh well" wish I didn't read that". Basically, house toxcitiy stuff. I was worn out last night.
Eeyore, you usually pop in when someone says EEyoreeeeeeeeeeee, whatup?
It's Friday Yay! Owlies have a great weekend

I'm Back from seeing the grandbaby and family. Mothers day with them was fantastic! Road trip from California to Idaho went well, I swear a change of scenery is the best therapy even if its not glamorous.
Wanted to take a minute to post how lucky I feel to have a few local BC ladies to meet up with. Its the best feeling just knowing they "get it". Looking forward to our visit today!!!
All this talk of vanilla, I love that stuff. Well the smell of it at least, I remember trying a taste of it as a kid!
Lots of hair talk also... Mine was long, straight, dark brown to my waist before chemo. It grew back in grey and curly! Reminded me exactly of how my moms was after her chemo so I color it. Chemicals I know but it is one of those things. The curl mostly went away. It is so much healthier than my long 50 year old hair was, I keep it short and call it my bonus healthy hair.
Wench - Garden seat envy ... I need one
MT - Your snow picture is beautiful, thats a lot of snow. Out here we get a flurry (like we did on the way back from our recent trip) and text the kids that we got snowed on!
Hi Shep ... keep getting better
Happy Friday to all

Hi poppy we haven't met. I was on a break for a long time. So a late WELCOME here

So far today is cooler. Just relaxing after having taken Jackson to the vets for his shots and then to run one other errand to get stuff for the garden. Will plant later in the day

SAS, Sofia just turned 6. DH took the picture, and I don't think she was "ready for my close-up, Mr. DeMille." She is a sweetheart, not at all like our very first English Bulldog, who was wild and crazy.
Love the pic of the German Shepherd in the body suit. I can't wear anything that tight and confining with my chemo hot flashes, ha ha.

Great food and even better company! We missed you today Smaarty
Edited to change pic per Lovers reques

Sensi, what a great picture!......Love your hair YAY you look good girl!.
Loverly, you hair is so long now. Sorry, I can't remember who is the beautiful person next to you. Youtold me in the last pic, but I forget...........
Lita, great dog....our babies.....a friend's baby is having emergency sx today for spleen today. ugh. My Max had the same sx. Such a worry.....Did Sophia come from the same breeder? We had two litters. 21(23) pups. Each Had such a different personality. Just like us. Can't conceive not having a dog. I adore cats, but they would destroy my glass all over everything. I often view videos of cats b/c they are so funny, loving, independent, and comical. I love dogs and cats together videos. Shucks, any animal video. Love the rescue videos where they find some terribly treated animal and show the rescue, over time recovery back to health, and happiness in a new home. HSUS is one of my charities. ASPCA locally, but not nationally.

I did something very radical tonight. Seriously radical. Have considered it for months, but made the offer on the spur of the moment without consulting Donnie. We were at the dinner table. I heard more of his nephew's story(see next paragraph). Can you conceive of a mother kicking her kid out at 14? He's lived in the woods at times. Donnie has brought him home several times b/c he was hungry. I have several times taken him with us to dinner b/c they didn't get paid and he had no money or food. It's bothered me for months' since I met him. I've talked to several here and family and friends about bringing him in here.
He comes from an awful home. A mother with a slew of kids by several fathers. His mother drinks all day. His father committed suicide when he was 4. He's 20y/o. I had some history before this that broke my heart. But learned tonight more, his life has sucked. Some I can identify with, like going to bed hungry and cold showers etc. I asked him to move in with us. We talked rules and parameters. Hmm isn't a rule a parameter? Anyways, this is going to radically change our life.
So asking for your prayers, for Nick, Donnie, and I that this works out. My eyes are not blinded. The first rule was that we work towards finding him a skilled trade that he would get certified in. He has been working with Donnie for months. He's a quick learner, but has issues. Nothing by history of violence. Juvenile history, but no > 18 record. That gives him a chance at life.
He is blown away by the offer. He will be in surroundings that he has never been in before. Clean and safe. Hoping that will encourage him to be responsive to guidance. We talked for hours about stuff.
I observed my parents doing this with multiple kids and adults. Not necessarily in the home. But some in the home. Dad owned a "Mom and Pop" restaurant. He was always getting kids and adults straight. Grands on Dads side did it during the Depression in Detroit. As that story went, with ten kids out and about, they'd bring home folks that were on the street. They never knew who might be there in the morning. It was a time that folks took care of each other.
One of my cousins came home from Nam. Seriously troubled and addicted. He went from family to family. Then he came to my Dad. My Dad laid down rules. First rule was he get off drugs. Second rule is he would get his GED. It was after I left home by several years. Johnny did what Dad laid down. It was strange when I came home for the first holiday, Johnny that was such fun as we were growing up, sat away during the Christmas celebration at the restaurant. He was slowly drawn back in. I remember that Christmas sewing his shirt that was a favorite i.e. wear all the time. I had to weave it, type sewing. The next holiday, I saw happiness in him. AND then in time he flew the coup. Whole.
When my Dad died in 1987, Johnnies brother David said at the funeral that his family credited my Dad with giving them back their brother and saving him. That's pretty heavy. Johnny remains to this day a whole person.
I'll be praying that my Dad gives me guidance in this with Nick.

Thanks Sas. I feel so much better after getting my haircut. I seriously was looking like Bozo the clown. That is the lovely PoppyQ with us 😉.
I never had curly hair before
0 -
Sensi Have faith Dear One............Your hair will change. Believe it! Mine came in half curly half straight. Then over time, it went dead straight(like pre BC). But not sure how long that took. You have dark hair. Mine came in all colors of original, silver, and white. When it went straight, it was a colorist dream. Alas, it didn't last that long. That's why I'm considering blonde. In my 45-59 pre bc, I was in the color of the month(3 month) scenario. I'd stand looking at the colors available, and think what do I feel like this time.
What's definitely good about what we have been through, is our memory's can be tainted i.e. forgetful about certain things. That's a good thing.
0 -
Ya know what is the deal that hair after chemo comes in curly?
0 -
I use DuckDuckGo as a search engine, it is as efficient as Google. Google censors info
I used several search terms about hair. I cut my search short when I came across the word Minixodil. Brought back a BAD memory. I tried it and ended up with a BAD< BAD infection----far worse than MRSA. Who knows if it was related. But no infection pre minixodil and a bad infection after using it for a short period of time. I actually should have reported it. Okay, going back to look at hair

Just checking in before I hit the sack. I picked up a few items of discussion on the way down the page.
Vanilla: I always check the bottles when I buy in Cozumel, usually the same brand over the years so I know it's good stuff, just vanilla and alcohol. I know some bottlers cut it with other stuff.
Hooters - that would be me Sassy. And you cannot imagine 4 less "Hooters type" people than the 4 we are going with. Not to mention the two of us. Our friends go every week for trivia night, small rural town really surprised they even have one.
I woke up early to take my Xeloda, then went back to sleep and slept till 2. Hubby shook my foot and said, honey it's 2 o'clock. So now it's after midnight. I'm going to bed in a minute. Cousin made an appointment for Rose to get groomed tomorrow, she said maybe we could go out to eat. So I may get some practice with my new teeth. And I'm gonna try to make it to church, if DH cooperates. When we saw the PA last week we discovered she goes to our church. So I told her where to look in the choir for cousin, and where we sit with my wheelchair in case she comes to the same service.
Sassy, we took in our two nephews at different times for different reasons. Back in the 90's my oldest sister's son was 20-something, failed at a bunch of different things. His dad deserted them when DN was 1, and mom never got the concept of teaching a kid life skills. She just thought it was easier to do things herself than teach him how, so he was clueless how to take care of himself. He got a job down the road, walking distance, and stayed with us until he could afford his own place. That wasn't the end of his drama, but it was the end of our active involvement. He's approaching 50 now, married a Canadian gal with a daughter who couldn't leave Canada, he couldn't get a work permit. So he played Mr. Mom and took advantage of the Canadian health system, and I'm not sure what his legal status is now.
My younger sister's husband died from cancer in 2000, leaving her with a 12 year old son and a 9 year old daughter. The daughter was a princess (she's the one in drama school in NYC now) but the son had a very strained relationship with his dad, who had major anger issues and took them out on his son. Dad's death sent him off the deep end and he spent the next few years in trouble (though not with the law). Mom sent him to one of those wilderness schools but the money ran out so she had to pull him out. The high school in her neighborhood had become a cesspool so we took him in and let him live with us for his senior year. Without us he wouldn't have graduated. He went to culinary school, he was a truly gifted chef, but sabotaged himself and quit the month before graduation. He's worked as a chef several places, moved to Alaska to be with his mom, then stayed there when she moved. I don't know what he's doing now.
What I'm saying is that you're embarking on what may ultimately be a thankless job, but I do understand how it feels when you're confronted with a young person who has been abandoned by his people and you are the only person(s) with the motive and means to give him a chance at life. You have to do what you have to do. The key to surviving (not necessarily success) will be your rules and parameters (best written) and establishing your own boundaries. And you have us to unload on.
Well that took longer than I figured, and I went into way more detail than I intended, but I wanted to give some background and context. Hope it works out for all of you. You are such an awesome human being and you have such a huge heart.
Love you ladies, nini.

Mags, that is the same way that the vanilla I sell for the company I represent makes theirs, just vanilla and alcohol.
My maternal grandmother used the brand of vanilla I sell, my mom uses it and now I do. Ever since I started using it, I have found other brands sadly lacking.

Sensi, I love the pictures of you and the girls. Beautiful ladies! My hair is growing back very, very sloooooowly! It's grown a whopping 1.5" in the past 5 months but it's growing back straight so far. I comb it up into a mohawk when it's wet, mostly just to make my DH laugh. It's a silvery salt and pepper color, more salt than pepper. I'm planning on keeping it just the color it is, no more grey roots as it's all grey! 😜
Sassy, I wonder if the different type of chemo we had has anything to do with the curly or straight hair? Sensi had Taxotere and I had Taxol. I'll have to check out some hair threads and see what I find. Things that make you go hmmmmm
M0mmy, your vanilla sounds wonderful, I can smell it from here! More info please!
MTwoman, praying your snow goes away soon!
I love the pictures of the dogs all dressed up! Where are they going? I'm betting the lady in pink will wish she brought her sneakers with her!
Wow! The sun was shining just a few minutes ago and now there's thunder and lightning and pouring rain. My straw bale garden is in heaven right now. Rain is coming down in sheets, pretty cool to watch!
We have a crawfish boil to go to later today and I hope the rain lets up so we can enjoy ourselves. A coworker of DH's has this crawfish boil every year and hundreds of people show up for it. The guy has 300 to 400 lbs of crawfish and shrimp etc delivered from Louisiana just for today. The people don't show up all at once from what we're told and the party starts at 3 this afternoon and goes on until they run out of food or you run out of energy. A lot of the people stay over night but we want our own bed when we're full. Stu usually sets the pace for these outings but we listen to my body now and when I start to crash we go home. Sometimes I think Stu would have more fun without me but he refuses to go alone. He says he knows I'm happy to stay home with my garden, pond and yard but I need to get out and stimulate my chemobrain too. He's right of course and I'm excited about going! I have my pillows, chairs, blankets and umbrellas and Stu has his home brew beer in kegs and we're both ready to go! Fun! Fun! Fun!
Praying everyone hasa wonderful weekend! Make it sunny even if the rain is pouring down 🌺☔️🌼☔️🌸☔️

Today is our neighborhood street clean up. People pick up trash and weed gardens that aren't on private property, prune the plant pots at the intersections, etc. Lots of people turn out and the neighborhood grocery furnishes coffee & pastry. It's a party.
