INSOMNIACS place to talk in the wee hours

Oh Poppy, I get it. Not sure if I read something on fb or here, but your 's was the first that said scary. If I had that thought here in Florida, it would be Hurricane related. Junie wrote about stuff re: doc's offices being closed and traffic, and staying home.
I'm a little lax right now. I lay in supplies in June for Hurricane season. Always ahead of the curve. My first thought is always dog food and TP. I guess I'm anal fixated. The thought of not having TP makes me anxious. I store a lot. With the dogs, they don't get the bowl not being full. I can eat canned beans forever. Bush's beans. Cold. Lived on beans after Greg died. Water, I have 14,000 gallons in the back yard that can help the toilet flush.
Need to get a couple of rolls of the wide aluminum. As a kid, one of those school science things from around the world, showed how to make an oven by lining a box inside and out to make an oven. Never had to actually, do it, but thought in the Florida heat it was perfect. Kept up with always having it on hand till right now. KNOCK on wood.
I was way less than eleven(house lost at eleven) when there was a solar eclipse. There were no special glasses then, but lots of warnings. The direction then was to make a singular straight pin hole in a piece of cardboard. No clue how that relates today. I remember great excitement for a few minutes, we got bored ....I remember we(kids) played tag. The whole neighborhood turned out. Great fun.

Oh well, went to write a note and the whole computer went crazy. It was a very personal note about Greg and me. Assuming it wasn't meant to be written

Hi alwfully quiet here. Must mean everyone is having fun. Last night had dinner at a Mom&Pop Octavian restaurant. best Alfredo sauce ever.. No corners scrimped. You could taste the heavy cream and butter
My prayers are with those in Spain and all the officers and their families.

Ms. Sas, I would be mortified if Mitzy had an armadillo in her mouth. I was so grossed out when I saw the mouse in Mitzy's mouth with its tail dangling on the side. She was all proud that she finally caught the mouse. Pouncing toward me soon after to show me her prize 🤢
Peppy, sorry to reschedule the lunch. Looking forward to lunch next week.
Thank you Mari for sharing the article.
Feel bad for the families of those who were affected in Spain with the recent attack. Finland was also hit. Don't understand the hatred.

You just reminded me of the night when we had pet skunks in a den next to the bed. Our cat Snuggles brought me a live mouse and let it loose in the bed. I slapped it off the bed and it hit the ground running with the befuddled cat after it - and the mouse ran into the den of two sleeping skunks AND BACK OUT! Mayhem that night.
Sas now I have to add alfredo to the September menu. mmmm

Blue, still laughing .yes, Hello welcome. I had the rest of it today. -----still devine.
If there was a video of the cat bringing the non dead mouse, that was swatted out of bed, that then ran into the sleeping skunks. Would have at least won something on America's Funniest home video's hahahhhahH.

Bahahaha good story, BlueB!!! Thank you for the good laugh and WELCOME!

No wait....you joined BCO before me. You probably were on Insomniacs a long time ago and now are back??? Your first time here or returning??? Should I have said welcome back? And you have pet skunks??? Ha! Anyway, I thought you were a writer. And then I saw your Bio. Love your style. We have another writer here too, but I don't think she has written any books.

Thanks Lover - I have been so sick I can't stand to write. But pushing through to get to a quality of life that will let me function AND live.
Wasn't ever on insomniacs - found it when I followed Sassy on the groups she started - they are great. This one and STEAM ROOM. hahaha Though I have been all over bco in years past here and there.
We did have pet skunks, Six over the years. Sequoia aka Pooh - Jeronimo aka Baby - Sagie - Jazzy - Lacey - Blossom. All gone now. Maybe someday again. But I never did get a full night of sleep with them in the house. Look at that face and tell me he would let you sleep - That's Jeronimo. He and Pooh were in the den when the mouse ran in AND OUT. Poor mouse. Skunks were screaming. I was spitting. Cat was maddest though.

Here's a short short for the insomniacs. True story, they all are.
Don't let the door hit you in the ass (title)
Every morning when I am in the ladies room, Lacey and Blossom come to hurry me to the kitchen.
Well, mainly Blossom.
Lacey usually spreads out on the floor to wait it out. She is not a morning skunk.
But Blossom charges into the room then out and races down the hall, then into the room and speeds down the hall and into the room and gallops down the hall and —- yeowsa. At six in the morning.
But then again this is the skunk that sleeps all the live long day except for breakfast, noon snack, three o'clock snack and five o'clock dinner and, oh yes, her nine o'clock snack.
Then she WAKES UP and charges through the house at exactly five minutes after midnight! It is her witching hour. She has a ball. She chases her sister, climbs onto the desk or bed to see me, races everywhere and I usually play with her when awake or in my sleep. By breakfast, she has worked up a real appetite and wants to eat before she sort of goes to bed for the day.
This particular morning Lacey was snoring at my feet and Blossom had charged in and out of the room and back down the hall about twenty-seven times. On her last trip out Lacey ran to the door and swung it shut so hard it almost latched, just missing Blossom's wide skunkie butt as she galloped out into the hallway.
"Don't let the door hit you in the a**!" Lacey yelled. Then she primly came back to slide onto the floor and wait.
Yes, our little Lacey has found her voice, finally. But that is another story.

Sas - I wish I had those videoes. One in particular is our Newfoundland dog Joseph who said Mama. He was 150# like they are supposed to be, not fat.
Tiny Blossom skunk, who hopped everywhere she went, would hide under the sofa or whatever in the living room where he was to eat in private. She managed too often to get away with it though I checked.
I would close the door, set his bowl of dry food and cottage cheese on the floor and SHE WOULD HOP ACROSS THE FLOOR AND INTO THE BOWL grabbing all the food in her arms and eating. Joseph - knowing not to argue with 4 pound skunks - would sit up an yell MAAMAAA! You could only get her out by the scruff of the neck and place her in her own room where she and her sister Lacey shared the spoils she had to eventually drop.
Well I didn't even plan this part......
one day I brought Joseph his bowl of cool water in the same deep deep food bowl and set it down and Blossom hopped across the room and into the bowl of water. Joseph laughed. And Blossom never did it again.
That is one video I know would have also won awards and money.
Well I'm having fun now, getting me going to want to at least edit some stories and that feels good.
Thanks guys!

Getting reading for the eclipse. The excitement is high.
Hope you come back often.

Enojyed the eclipse. We had a partial and I didn't look at the sun. I just watched the sky get darker and then lighter. My fur babies slept right through the whole thing.
0 -
Took the day off work, to observe the eclipse from my patio. DH and I experienced together. 91% in my area. Thin, semi-circular sliver of sun was all that was visible at its height. Great experience!

Was inside for the whole thing. Much safer to view and less chance of me risking a look at the sun. Had about 70% coverage here.

We had the recommended eclipse glasses, so all good here.

I like this article... the title is misleading
Sitting Could Be Big Health Risk for Frail Folks
MONDAY, Aug. 21, 2017 -- After years of being told that sitting too much is deadly, a new study now suggests that being sedentary for long periods of time may not be an equal-opportunity health risk. For inactive middle-aged and older people with multiple health problems, being sedentary does appear to be linked to an increased risk of early death. But sitting a lot doesn't seem to affect active people the same way, the researchers said.
"We found that in people who scored low on the frailty index, sitting time was not linked to risk of death," said one of the study's authors, Olga Theou.
Still, she said, "Physicians should stress the harms of inactivity with patients, similar to the harms of smoking, to encourage movement." Theou is an assistant professor with Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
"Even something as simple as getting up and walking around the house with a walker or cane can benefit frailer people," she suggested.
The study included data from more than 3,100 adults who participated in a U.S. health survey. All of the participants were aged 50 and over, and were followed from the mid-2000s until 2011.
The study participants' movements were monitored with the help of activity trackers. The researchers also used a questionnaire to figure out how frail the participants were based on the number of medical problems they had.
The report was published in the Aug. 21 issue of the CMAJ (Canadian Medical Association Journal).
"Prolonged sitting was associated with a higher risk of death only in vulnerable or frail people who did not meet the weekly recommendation for 2.5 hours of moderate physical activity," Theou explained in a journal news release.
And while the study found an association between inactivity and increased risk of early death in frail people, it couldn't prove a cause-and-effect relationship.
More information
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has more about physical activity.

Morning, owlies. The Eclipse was fun, It was nice to see so many happy. I used the old pinhole in the cardboard, for just a few seconds. I couldn't see any shadow, but the kids with me could. But also, didn't let them do it , but for a few seconds.
There was a thing on the course of the eclipse on fb. I couldn't transfer it here. Someone due to their immense curiosity found that the eclipse totality line crossed over seven Salem cities. It's an interesting.
Donnie leaves tomorrow for Ohio family reunion. I've bugged him about getting ready. Of course, he hasn't got a thing done. hoping I don't have to drive I haven't driven in heavy traffic for a year.
Welcome to SusieM49, would that happen to be Telegraph road? I'm from Detroit originally. Left their in 1972.
Mari nice article. I walk in the house for twenty to thirty minutes a day. It's cool and I can turn the fans on over the path I walk. Also, I've been doing arm/shoulder exercises with weights. It's nice and I feel better. Biggest thing is it's safe because the surface is even versus no sidewalks outside. Except, I have to be careful about shots and Dini.
To everyone, check in on the Torodol board. Some new info. Circulating tumor cell measurement has or is becoming a common measurement before surgery, even before breast biopsy. This is quite revolutionary, as previously it was used only with Trail studies.

I forget who asked about MammaRay, but she has posted recently and sounds great, says she's walking better and is overall improved.

Sas - serendipity for the first skunk. Others kept coming by choice and they had a need for a new home.
Slept well last night. Finally. Had a dream I was running.
On that article - I am a high risk then since older and w many issues right now. I used to garden but not after May this year. Used to walk around property and take dog for walks on country roads. Soon. I know with the possible risks I have the sitting still and being careful is best right now - rheumatologist suspects pulmonary hypertension from scleroderma / lupus affecting esophagus, lungs, throat. Can cause heart issues. But I am doing arm exercises and brushing huge dog who has the fuzziest shaggiest coat ever.

Good evening ladies,
I managed to get showered, dressed & Kirby harnessed up in time to go outside to experience the eclipse. I didn't have any glasses to look at it, but I did take a quick glimpse when the sun was completely covered (1-2 sec at most) then continued with Kirbers walk. The temps here felt like they'd dropped 10 degrees, but I was told it was only 4 degrees. The remaining light during the eclipse made a really cool pattern on the ground as it shown through the tree leaves/branches. I am on my week off of the Ibrance and Sunday & Monday I had zero energy. Made it to church on Sunday, but spent the rest of it and Monday on the couch mostly.
Foot is still real sore. The bruising is receding, but it aches a lot the rest of the time.
Today a friend and I went to the movies to see "Hitman's Bodyguard" We had lunch first and really enjoyed the movie. I ate too much popcorn though. I never eat it anywhere else, but theirs is so good. Tomorrow I have to go for bloodwork at M.O., then a funeral, then my therapeutic massage. Funeral is at 10:00 a.m. and massage is at 11:30. It's going to be close, time wise.
Blue - Really enjoyed your Skunk story.
SusieM - Kirby is now 10 mos old. and his hormones are raging. When we were on the bus last Friday another woman got on and Kirby starting pitching a fit and whining, but I couldn't figure out why. The bus driver was yelling at me to keep him quiet and when I tried to give Kirby treats to distract him, the bus driver yelled at me "are you feeding THAT DOG?", "there is NO eating on the bus!" What a jerk. Then as I am exiting the bus, the driver says have a nice evening. I didn't, but wanted to say something inappropriate. Anyway, as it turns out the lady that had gotten on had her female chihuahua in a purse carrier and apparently Kirby could smell her even though we couldn't see her . I am trying to wait until he is a year old to have him neutered, but next month is looking pretty tempting right now. Little hound dog!
Sas - I am sure you've already ordered all the items you need for the bathroom, but did you by any chance check out Wayfair.com? They advertised a bathroom vanity the other day on T.V. and it appeared to look very similar to the one you posted a pic of.
Now onto one of my lovely neighbors. This particular woman is a seriously malicious, horrible person and takes great pleasure in creating drama and causing problems for anyone she can. She has a very loooong history of things she's pulled, but her latest focus is me AGAIN. I think I mentioned that she has been complaining that I and another neighbor were watering the grass around our buildings. The grass was very brown and a serious fire hazard. I know, your asking yourselves, "so why does she have problem with that?" Because that is all she has to do with her time apparently. She even threatened to call the executive director to complain. Well the manager told her to mind her own business since it was not harming her or any of the other neighbors. So what does she do? She then lodges a complaint against me with the apt. manager saying that I am abusing Kirby. I just laughed, because I know full well what she's up to, plus if she truly thought for one second that Kirby was in danger she'd call animal control or the humane society. Besides, she should know better than calling the authorities with yet another false complaint. Last year she called the police over 20 times reporting one neighbor for child abuse/neglect. All false reports. I happen to be standing there when the officer reamed her for wasting the resources of the dept. and the time of two officers, plus if she ever did it again, she'd be charged herself for abusing the 911 system.
I hope everyone is having a nice evening and has a restful nights sleep. Until next time, bye bye.
Also, His Royal Highness Kirby says Hi!

okay, Blue the first was by serendipity, seridipity has a story oh master story teller.. The rest by choice. EWHHHHHH DOES THAT MEAN THEY COULD SMELL EACH OTHER? JUST REGULAR SMELL OR THAT OTHER SMELL.
EW COMPUTER FAIURE, SEEMS CAPS TAB doesn't work. OH now it starts. it was up on the screen board. even though it was submerged. Didn't know it could work that way.
Jun, what a biacth. Sick person. Kirby is adorable. Does he have to be groomed? Any adjustment to the new apartment? Cut he sniffed out that chihahahua. I started my CPAP last night. Better
Patty, I know.
Blue I started walking in the house at ten minutes at a time for while. Now I'm up to 25-35minutes. Starting to feel nice. But I vary the amount based on how I feel. It's probably been a month now. I do it in the house b/c I have a problem with uneven surfaces. I look askance at a pebble. HXof falls a lot.

June, I've given up the machine won. It took three or four times of writing Junkie to get to junkie. And it' just keeps changing it tonjunkie. But it will accept June.
I bought the vanity in March I think. Actually a mistake, IT took money out of budget and I may not be ready for months for the vanity to go in. It was deal, and I was in love with it. Bad combo when I like something and the price is right and the money's there. Hahahahaha 3-4 of my mantra for thrifting.

SusieM??????????????I Won't bring up Telegraph again hahahaha. Come on back?
Donnie got to Ohio okay. I was worried because he hasn't flown since the trouble. Hasn't gone through all the stuff. I talked with him, but he just started a nap. It's very nice for him. He hasn't been back in over 30some years.

Cute Kirby - what a head of hair, looks so healthy.
Night before last I dreamed I was taking a dog out to walk and while he was sniffing around I ran up a hill and back.
Last night I dreamed there was a cancer lump on my front left hip and several in the fat of my stomach.
At least I could breathe right both nights and got to sleep, right.
