Blondie- I saw Boyhood and loved it. Glad to see Arquette win, she is a great actress. Want to see Still Alice, but my father had early onset dementia so I have to be in the right place emotionally to go see it. Theory of Everything I want to see too. I did not think the movies this past year were all that great though.
I watched the Snowden documentary on HBO tonight though.

Sending warm thoughts from Washington and hope everyone
knows that they are thoughts and prayed for. Has been a long week
and a lot of challenges with my breathing, I just know that this is a
wonderful and loving group. I love it here. Thanks Debbie

Foots/Debbie,
Thank-you for all the good wishes & encouragement. Hoping for easier breathing for you !
I saw the shoulder surgeon today, he drilled a few holes in my bone, and reattached my biceps tendon, with a metal plate. He told DH this, 2+ weeks ago, but DH did not get it, or whatever. So, all is ok, but the recovery is going to be longer than I thought, as far as using it. He wants me to start lifting my arm, with assistance of my other hand, but I can not lift anything heavier than a small glass of water, or wine....lol..

Blondie, We loved Theory of Everything.

Big hugs to all. Love taking my mind off everything here by living vicariously thru y'all.

Morning gals! Jazzy, I just posted on the de-cluttering thread! You gals all give me more ideas!
I've been saving some of my little throws/blankets for the cat next door, for the bed I made her... But I'll get the rest out, and donate them also.
Blondie!!!!!!!! Big day eh? Hope they will take that cast off... I imagine your foot will feel pretty loose... without that support.... so just don't go running around all over the place too soon...

I didn't see the "envelope" thing... glad I didn't... but that underwear stunt was just too much... How come everyone ELSE thought it was funny? And Kelly & Michael re-PLAYED all the highlights, and just thought it was the best thing ever! She just loves that little squirt though... of course she loves EVERYbody.
I heard something on TV yesterday.... This guy said something about he isn't getting "older".... He is just "living longer"..... I like that! So that's a great way of looking at it....
A NOTHER thing.... Why can't older movie-stars just hang it up, and stop trying to look like they are 25 again... It's like they have to have their face on the front-page all the time! Men seem to age more gracefully.... and are vital, and can contribute.... like Clint Eastwood...
When we reach a certain age.... accept it.... and quit holding onto the notion that we can still romp with the younger people. There are so many good things about "living longer"..... of which I can't think of any right now, but STILL!
We should just be thankful for GETTING another day.... ! Okay, I have to go put on my white go-go-boots, and get my fan out, and polish that pole! Haaaaaaaah!
Foots! Glad to see you again! What is wrong with your breathing.... I forget! Your Asthma? Lungs? How can I help?
Ah geez Hi-ho! They did WHAT? I mean WTH??? I just say OUCH!!!!
I'm so sorry! Okay, I won't joke about lifting a whole 2 litre of wine... I'll wait.
PEPPERMINT!!! Did you get something from the Hospital? I mean another virus or WHAT happened to you? Sometimes you can go to the hospital not near as sick, as when you LEAVE there....
Hope y'all are doing better today than yesterday!
Spookie! You up yet? Why aren't you showing me a picture of your 65 degree weather? I could post OUR temp, but you would just laugh!

MORNING OWLIES AND HAPPY WEEK
Love all the info on decluttering I do suggest checking prices on books. Particularly, old children books. I tried to find the place I checked some last year. The Little Engine that Could, 1964 or 1965, hardcover, I found somewhere for 100.00$ But now can't find it. I am very sure it was on this link. It is a very easy search site for all books
http://www.abebooks.com/?cm_sp=TopNav-_-Results-_-Logo
Patty, UGH, and double UGH. Diagnosis? Did they do the following tests--Stool for culture and sensitivity, Ova & parasites, Clostridium difficile (C-diff). C-diff requires a stool and blood test. Previously, only a stool. Changed a few years ago. Stool for leukocytes(WBC's) & PH level. Ecoli157:H(different from Ecoli). These should be the minimum. Checked the net to see what's new AND there are some tests that can be done. I'll link it
http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/928598-workup
One last test is Giardia. Giardia in this country is usually only associated with drinking Well water. But I remember two cases where it wasn't considered until in each case it was tested for and Bingo they had a dx. We may not have Well water, but we maybe exposed to it in outlying areas that we may visit etc.
Sometimes, a bacteria/virus/chemo can assault the GI track. We get through the initial assault either by the bodies own immune system, or intervention by the appropriate treatment by the identification of the causative problem.
What can happen is the colon in particular can be so traumatized that it becomes inflamed---Colitis-Co(colon)-----itis(inflammation of). With colitis the leukocytes would be present and Ph will be low. You wouldn't necessarily find a causative organism. Colitis can take quite awhile to recover. The important aspect is to get a correct dx.
Questions: How long were you on solid food before leaving the hospital? What diet were you on when you left? What did you eat when you left the hospital? The importance of these questions are: 1. When the presenting dx is diarrhea the tests that I mentioned above would be done as a routine workup. Perhaps not all, but now that you have a readmission a review of what tests were done is appropriate. 2. If you were on solid food without diarrhea@ discharge and you had a return of diarrhea AFTER eating something after discharge, that is very suspicious for a food trigger and or colitis.
Going to post worried about wiping this out LOL have been known to do that -------synapses worked once, doesn't necessarily mean they will work again

Sorry owlies talking so much poop, but you know I start where there's trouble

Chevy- how to keep an outside animal warm- get an old small dog house and fill with straw. If you can't find decent clean straw without buying a 1/2 a bail.. huge amount and $ - where to store it etc.. pet shops sell bags of timothy hay. The hay stays dry and can be pitched if it get wet. It traps the animals heat and acts like insulation to keep them warm when the temps drop. We used it in rabbit boxes. I have also used it in out door dog houses. Another good way to keep an outside cat warm is use old sleeping bags or old childs coat, vest. Anything that the animal can burrow in and traps their body heat. Getting water when it's cold is the hardest thing for animals because everything is frozen and dehydration will kill in super cold weather. Providing water in the dead of winter is a life saver.... get out a kettle of boiling water.
Holy cow Patty! Your doc is helping you stay alive with fluids! HAng in there. I am so sorry, man that sucks...

Good morning rosevalley and chevy, the feed stores sell heated 5 gallon buckets for large animals (horses etc.), and they also have heated bowls for dogs and cats here. I used to have a small farm and had them for my horses, goats, and chickens in the winter. They had water 24/7 in the winter. Easy for me, and good for them! I also had warming lights for the chickens by the roost boxes.
I'm trying to stay warm, it's still below zero, and more snow on the way
Have a great day.0 -
Patty, just reread your post. Missed the 'high temp' that changes the scenario allot. The minimum routine at any admission would be CBC and Cmet/CMP --Complete metabolic profile. The CBC is going to tell how high the WBC's are and the Differential will tell if the immune system is kicking in. Plus, it will show whether dehydration is present. The CMET/CMP will tell about the electrolytes and kidneys are working. Cmet/ CMP's also include liver function. In your case at this point abnormality in liver function would be unlikely. Urinalysis will be done as a routine admission tool too.
In addition to basic workup b/c of the temp, blood cultures are apart of the routine workup in this case. Expect a basic chest xray.
We had the discussion back in Dec re: sepsis. Systemic versus local infection. The temp tells us that something systemic is going on. This could be b/c 1. this is related to the previous diarrhea problem or 2. this is not related to the previous problem. Your workup and management now with the presence of a temp will be different.
A solid head to exam should be part of the admission physical. You have been ill awhile. Making sure they're isn't something new is important i.e. pneumonia which the chest xray rules that in or out), urinalysis rules out UTI. Any leg pain?
One question I didn't address earlier. Diarrhea can be related to antibiotics given many months before. Was that part of the discussion in the last admission?
Anyways hope this allows you to have a clue of what to expect and ask

Rosie.... A couple years ago, I took one of those plastic "recycle" crates over for her.... And THEN I finally convinced "them".... the brainless owners, to keep it in the garage, because they DID put in a cat-door.... but they locked it, when they found Raccoon's were coming in to steal her bin of food! I had tried to find a place for her bed under her deck, etc! And get this..... they didn't like cat-prints on the hood of their CAR! They finally got over themselves, and don't mention that any more.......
I asked Curly & Larry to maybe put the bin of food IN THE HOUSE with the DOG'S food!!! They finally left the cat-door unlocked, and her bed is still in there..... I also took over a "warming mat" that I used under my plant trays when I was starting seeds. So it is in between the blankets that I took over.... AND they hooked up a warming lamp to keep her water from freezing, and it's right by her bed in the garage....
"Edith" seems so HAPPY! And she loves when I go over and bring her a little "canned" food or left-over meats! I'm not allergic to her.... but I am to a lot of cats.... She is very "vocal".... but I would let her in the house! Damnit!
They got a yappy little Chihuaha/terrier mix, and SHE gets to stay IN! SOME PEOPLE!

HIO HMMM nice hug Thanks
Jazzy. Checked on AMICA. Now remember, they were able to pull up my info from last search. Their search showed a sinkhole 3.1 miles away. Therefore, they won't consider properties in this locale. Last year I was going through thyroid treatment. No energy to chase windmills. Now, going up the chain. Not that it will change anything, but I will at least say my piece. Which is from a consumer point of view. We used to have a political action group I belonged to here, that represented the community. It's since disbanded. It was all volunteer. It was a great group. Amazing the amount of things we accomplished. One of the bottom lines is the group had a familiarity with things that the average uninvolved homeowners, weren't aware.
MY windmill target today is to raise this question-----"an un known property, in an unknown place in a circumference area of 3.1 miles had a claim with an unknown insurance agency, in an unknown year which as a result blocks the insurability of anyone in that geographic area --validity of redlining us? That and 0.10 cents won't get me a cup of coffee. But I've changed the world before, always hoping another pebble thrown into the pond will become a wide ripple.
Think I'm going to go with AAA. Reason: they act as the parent insurer. They broker rates with the companies they use for homeowners. The companies they use have to meet AAA specifications and all the applicable Florida law. I didn't pick up on that last summer. My analogy from what I learned today is that AAA is watching the hen house. Insurance law in Florida is a different animal. I need to be sure that someone's got my back. I may pay more, but I feel like I will have more security with them b/c they are about customer satisfaction, not snookering.
But I will still go see what consumers are saying

This is a link to a web site that SEEMS like it gives nice info about insurance. BUT it may not be independent. There's an organization Alexa that tracks organization and organizations such as the link below. Alexa is the one I know about, I'm sure there are others. The link below sounds like it's reviewing insurance companies, but it doesn't say that they don't take money for a review or referral. Tricky, but legal.
http://www.expertinsurancereviews.com/insurance-company-reviews/aaa-insurance/
On the other hand it makes the stats from CR even more credible. But statistically, CR has a bunch ranked between 80 and 84% Really, to close to call. But with Amica & USAA and @ 98% & 97% and Allstate 77% . Given only those three, it's a no brainer. Except when I asked DS about the really low premium quote from Allstate on car. He said from his perspective they are a decent company, but their adjusters are overwhelmed b/c their caseloads are to big. Suggested I go with them and he be there for backup to get them to comply etc. Interesting and strange approach.

I just re-newed my Auto with State Farm.... I got a lower rate, because of annual lower mileage.... They automatically send a post-card every 6 months, for us to check our mileage, to see if we are driving as much....
I have $500 deductable.... because I know almost any damage that I would cause would be much more than that, and because the $250 deductable has a higher 6 month rate. I'm just glad we can afford this....
DH only drives that old car about once a month.... for about 8 miles total! So his premium is very low....
I'll probably review my account in 6 months now.... Homeowners will be coming in about a month.... I know having a frame home makes a difference.... but I don't think they even had bricks in 1886.... Ha!
Most people, like my Grandpa, built their own homes! He dug a basement, then covered it, and they lived down there, while they built the house on top.... That house is ALSO still standing!

Chevy- thank you for taking care of Edith.. her owners are dingbats. I can't tell you how many times I gave stepped up to aide or help a cat or dog. When I was in Grad school my roommate and I stole a German Sheppard teen puppy from it's creapy horrid owners up the street. They chained it to it's doghouse, no bed, no straw, no water (frozen) in upstate New York!!! Poor thing was thin and hungry. The neighborhood kids would throw rocks at it and we would chase them, thought it was funny to hear the poor girl yelp. So under the cover of darkness me and my roommate snuck over on a night where they post freeze warnings -20...and we stole her. Kept her on blankets in the halway in our apartment, she drank water for forever! We fed her and took her to a rescue group. She was so thin, sweet and friendly and didn't deserve to be chained to a cold plastic dog house and teased... miserable. no regrets! I guess I can fess up since it was decades ago... ;-) !!

Good evening PattyPeppermint, I do hope you are feeling better, staying warm, and are comfortable tonight. I am so sorry you had to make a u turn trip!! But I do hope they get on it, and get you out of there fast.
It is so cold in Cleveland tonight, with lows dipping below zero. We are right now having the second coldest February ever on record. If the temps keeps dropping, it will be #1! Not a trophy I ever wanted to win for sure.
Take care, and I hope we hear good news soon!
