OncoW, thanks it's a profound thought, the matrilineage.

We're going over the river and through the wood to MIL's house to spend time with family.

    Merry Christmas! ♥ to all

Hello, I'm a new member to the club and live in north central wisconsin. Current wind chill is 30 below! My surgery is scheduled for 1/16/15. Getting nervous but also ready to have it over. At least I will be able to cheer on the Packers on Sunday without discomfort

    Smile

Welcome Homer. Glad to have you here. Even though I live in Connecticut  currently, I'm a northwestern Wisconsin gal from birth! Right now its subzero temps with wind chill here where I am.

Too cold and snowy to get out tonight, frustrating me beyond belief. I've so enjoyed the Christmas lights down Wisconsin Ave and in Kilbourn and Red Arrow and Pere Marquette Parks. They are up for such a short time. I hate missing a chance to get out and see them. Then I immediately feel ashamed for saying that given the people in the city really suffering because of the cold.

M0mmyof2 & OncoWarrior: Thanks for the welcome! I will be watching the game on my couch. I have been to a couple games in Green Bay, but enjoy my son's commentary in our living room when we watch together.

I live in the Wausau area. I have decided against reconstruction at this time. Just not ready right now. I am ready for our cold snap to end - not looking too promising for the next few days. I hope everyone is keeping warm and cozy.

    yw Homer

Hubby and I will be watching the game as well. I root for the Packers all the time, hubby roots for them as well unless his Patriots are playing the Packers! Laughed when they played this season and slaughtered hubby's team.

hi ladies!  Welcome Homer14 and good to see you kmmd.

I live in the southwest part of the state but work in Madison.  Not much snow yesterday but the wind was blowing it all over the roads and everyone was driving very slowly so it took me almost 2.5 hours to get home last night ugh!

We will also be watching the game (from the couch) on Sunday.  Go Pack Go!

Homer, I had a BMX no recon in Feb 2010.  Good luck!  PM me if you have any questions.

Off work today to see eye doc and get oil changed in car.  I usually walk there & back but not today brrrr!

Welcome homer! I live southeastern WI but my DH folks lived in Plainfield. I had a BMX in DEC of 2011. Get yourself some slippery pjs. They help, don't make the mistake of wearing fleece. It kinda works like velcro on some couches... LOL there is a good thread or 2 on here about surgery. If you haven't already read it, please take he time to read one, many good suggestions.

Since Christmas eve, I have been to see my MO, PCP, Cardiologist, Pacemaker Dr., Nephrologist, and had a bone density test. I am doctored out and it's only the 2nd week of the year! LOL. Fortunately, EVERY THING IS OK!!!! Good reports on it ll. Even bone entity is the same! Awesome.

I hope the New Year treats everyone the same way.

Thanks badger. Nice to see the sun out today. The snow has that crunchy sound underfoot. Don't know what it is about that sound I love so much since it usually means you are freezing cold when you hear it

kmmd, no kidding. It's a fun sound. I think it reminds us of being a kid when we didn't care about anything but fun! LOL

Stay warm and much love to all.

Did anyone else see the sun dog this morning?

Beautiful but that means it's really freakin' cold!

BTW I also like that crunchy snow sound.  Headphones <=== earmuffs

OncoW, a sun dog is a ring around the sun formed from crystals of ice in the atmosphere.

The one I saw this morning had a touch of rainbow to it, very pretty!

I think it's probably OK to view sun puppies without special glasses due to the low angle along the horizon but it's good to be careful. Heard on the radio that the Twin Cities observed some recently. Badger, I don't miss the long commute we used to have when weather turns nasty. At least some people have the option to work from home. I chose retirement!

Very happy Fuzzy got back in touch. I hope she takes time to check in at least every other year from now on so we won't worry too much.

Welcome Homer: I spent 15 years in Wausau until that little insurance company that used to be there laid my husband off...

OncoW, my vegetarian son made 3 batches of chili during his semester break. At least I didn't have to cook. Now he's back to school in Ohio

The main reason I logged on this afternoon (and have not been to this forum in a few weeks) is that a new concern has become parathyroid disease. My serum calcium has been borderline high for quite a while but took a jump to 11 within the last month. Probably not an indicator of bone metastasis however there could be some other hormonal/glandular tumor issue going on. Stopped my vitamin D supplement for now. Had a specialty lab panel drawn yesterday morning which means no results or definite diagnosis yet.

Moon, I feel like you - way too many doctor & clinic appointments in such a short time. Glad to know you checked out OK.

Is anyone acquainted with endocrinology surgeons in Milwaukee or Madison?

Thank you for all the warm welcomes. I spent today running errands and trying to get all my supplies. I call DH "my McGyver" so he is trying to come up with creative ways to assist with my recovery. We tried to make our outing as fun as possible given the circumstances. I did get some good news yesterday. My BRCA testing came back negative, so I get to keep my ovaries!ThumbsUp

Thanx OW, I'm hoping to stay at Froedtert but we'll see. There do not seem to be many parathyroid subspecialists around who do a lot of surgery.

Homer, did you get a complete multi-panel test? A good genetic counselor (Marshfield is probably the best option in your neck of the woods) would know what was appropriate based on your family history. For instance, the Myriad company does not check for a mutation found in people of northern Finnish descent, which I'll admit is quite rare but there are now so many other known defects which predispose to cancer. It's not only about BRCA 1/2 any more, unless another relative has already been confirmed as a carrier.

Google has some nice pictures of colorful rainbow 'parhelia': technical term, you can impress others! They occur too early in the day for me...
