mrochon - I am thinking the stomach sleeping ban is so the implant is not pushed into the armpit.  Did your PS discuss with you before surgery not putting your TE sub-pectoral?  I think this is not done as often and am curious about why this is the case for you?

SK- you have now ruined my vision.... teeth are an important feature. hahaha

I have heard from a couple people re: Kaiser. It actually sounds nice. I think the hardest part will be right when we switch, because I will be in post-op and fills and such... we are going to try to get that part out sourced to my PS...

Michelle - enjoy your weather and yard work :)

DM - you are right about teeth, this was reinforced by my experience this monring (but he was really very nice), lol!  One of the things about Kaiser is that they seem to have a lot of services available because they are large and well established.  I believe that I read someone on a thread about having pretty integrated care there.  I also sent you a PM earlier.

DM - I have heard good things about Kaiser recently so I really do believe you will be in good hands.  The timing of this insurance switch is hard to deal with emotionally but I think (and I hope) the transition will be easier than you you think.

Ladies, I have had a sad 24 hours.  My good friend passed away with pancreatic cancer at 49.  She was diagnosed last March and I had my diagnosis last August.  I'm grief-stricken when I remind myself how I had choices and she didn't.  This is hard.......when I least expect it, the tears just flow.

Thanks for your ear and I wish you all a wonderful weekend holiday.

tatina - I am so sorry about your friend, and I send you strength, I know just how you are feeling.  My brother passed away very quickly from a rare digestive cancer, there was no treatment available for him at all, other than comfort measures.  I feel fortunate that I had options, but so sad that he did not.  Cry when you need to, and remember the happy times with your friend.

SK - I just responded to your PM a second ago.

I wanted to ask about your brother, but didn't want to pry. That sounds awful. My DH's father passed away quickly too, from  a rare type of cancer. I never got to meet him, but the passing was very hard on my DH.

SpecialK - I don't remember anything really about discussions before surgery.  I remember him showing me implants and pictures.  I put myself in a false set of mind that I was fine and this was going to be no big deal.  But I look back now and realize I was trying so hard to put myself in that mindset I heard absolutely zero of what doctors said to me. If I only knew what I know now.  I figured I would talk to my second opinion dr about it.  If I don't choose to go with her, I will at least have be able to go back to my PS and ask better questions.  I was just so tired on Wednesday when I saw him, I just wanted to get home.

Tatina, so very sorry :(  ((((((((((hugs)))))))))))

I found my first post op report. TEs are partially under the pectoral muscle (part of the top). The part that isn't covered has alloderm. But my right TE has no alloderm. He didn't put it back after reinsertion because he felt that side (cancer side) may have been the cause of infection.

Tatina: I'm sorry about your friend. Grief brings all the cancer crap rushing back, with guilt ladled on top. Be extra good to yourself right now.

DM: I would totally go to as many docs as you can before your insurance switches to kaiser. As SpecialK said, think of these appts as 2nd opinions! You seldom get a chance like this; take advantage of it.

Bonseye, sorry you are joinging us but happy you found us. I added your surgery up above. When you know more, please PM me and I will add it in. Same ges for all with upcoming surgery. I am not on the boards every day but if I get a PM I will add to the surgery list ASAP!

Oh that image of the Florida construction workers and SpecialK eating cookies had me laughing. And then the few teeth comment... thanks for that laugh.

    Mrochon, yay on the fill!

I am still healing but it has been 25 days since I had any seepage. YIPPEE! Can you believe it? I just posted a new pic on the forum.

    Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

SpecialK, my MO doesnt seem to know too much,he keeps getting the patients mixed up and was gonna call and get me a BRca test but never did, then failed to tell me the tests include a urine test of 24 hrs in a jug that I gotta keep in my fridge!! OMG...too much, then I had a long list of side effects from the Arimi and then I got mouth ulcers so severe I could barely talk eat or brush teeth. So I never got to take the Remifimen,I stopped all pills and then mouth cleared up,when I started Arimi the ulcers come back with a vengeance worse than the first time,I decided with my mouth swelling and ulcerated and having all the other side effects listed,it was too much, I could barely function. Gonna ask the Gen Phys to recommend someone else. Is there anything else I can take besides Arimi??

layla - there are three aromatase inhibiting drugs for ladies who are post-menopausal.  They are Arimidex (anastrazole), Aromasin (exemestane) and Femara (letrozole).  They are all drugs that basically do the same thing, which is to block the enzyme aromatase which does not allow androgens to convert into estrogen.  This is a different mechanism than Tamoxifen, which is usually prescribed for pre-menopausal women, which does not suppress all estrogen, but blocks it from cells.  Tamoxifen is usually prescribed for pre-menopausal women because they are generally younger and need estrogen for other functions in the body.  The three aromatase inhibitors are somewhat interchangeable so if you cannot tolerate the side effects of one, most move on to another to see if they have the same issues.  I take Femara and other than some joint aching - I have no problems with it.  FYI - my brac testing was a simple blood draw.

Psalms... call your PS and tell her about your anxiety. Sounds like a little Xanax (or something similar) might do you a world of good and allow you to relax more before surgery. Try not to get down on yourself. I have felt that way too... why didn't I exercise more, etc. Take a walk every day, even if only for 5 or 10 minutes, and you'll be amazed how that simple act can help your mood. Take good care of yourself!

Specialk: Thanks for the lay person's guide to understanding hormone blockers!

I've been writing Haiku (I know!) as part of a health writers challenge I'm taking part in on my blog, and just shared one on on the hot flash forum but I think you guys will like this too:

    Like a bad temper,
    Heat rises inside out.
    Discard clothing quickly.

Good morning ladies:) I just got my date for exchange surgery (to implants).  I feel like jumping up and down YAY YAY YAY YAY.  It's on May 16th. I was going to have to wait until my appt in 2 weeks, but my next door neighbor is the office manager and hooked me up so I'd get the time/date that works for our busy family. MAY 16, I can't stop saying it lol:)

    Congrats, momof3!

Hope everyone had a nice weekend.

Just back from seeing my PS. Both sides are now equal in CCs. He wants to overfill the saline side by 150 CCs & then let it sit until it stretches, then remove the overfill.

Thank you so much for your support about my friend (Special K, so sorry to read about your brother).  The sadness got heavier over the weekend when a good friend called to tell me she was just diagnosed with stage 3b lung cancer.  Luckily, I live 15 minutes away so I can spend extra spend time with her.

Now, as for all of you:

    Ren-awesome news on the seepage.

DLL66 - fantastic!  How much does the PS want to overfill?

Pslams - sending good thoughts your way.....

Momof3 - I'm jumping with you.  My exchange is on the 29th of May.

Bonseye - even though I'm cyberspace jumping with Momof3 I will be NERVOUS too - valium time.

Again, thanks to all of you for your support.  It means a lot.

tatina - thanks - it has been almost 4 years since he passed, but sometimes it seems like yesterday.  I am sorry about your friend.  Have they decided on a course of treatment?  My Dad had lung CA and he received taxanes just like I did.

Thanks everyone,I am on the fence...I want to postpone my surgery all do to nerve and feeling in prepared..it seems that I need a little more time. Once again has anyone had a hysterectomy and a expander put under the same anathesia?

psalms - I have had both, but in separate surgeries.  The TE putback is a pretty minor surgery so I personally would not have a problem with doing both at the same time.  That said, if you are not ready, then you should delay, but know we all get nervous before any surgery!

Because I have such a bad reaction to anesthesia I actually would prefer to have it all in one surgery.
