Hi all.  Just wondering if anyone else out there has had large fluid issues post surgery.  I'm on my second surgery and once again, my output is enormous.  I'm 10 days post surgery and am still outputting 85-90cc/day.  It's so awful.  I feel like I'm going to have my drains for another 5 weeks and I can't life my daughter until they have been out for 2 weeks.  When is this ever going to end?  Resting does not seem to help me.  I tend to produce just as much while I'm resting/sleeping as I do while I'm awake.

Has anyone experienced pain months after the tissue expander was removed? I had the left tissue expander removed three months ago and during the last two weeks, I have been experiencing moderate pain on and off in the bone area where the breast used to be. There are no other signs of infection otherwise.

Hang in there Marcy.  I felt like that at day 10 and went to 17.  Give it at least another week. If you get the drains out now then you will have a fluid problem and probably an infection. Let the drains do their job. Find patience, as hard as that may be. My drain came out early and I had an infection and lost the TE, and you definitely don't want that. What does your PS say?  Some women just put out more fluid. My PS actually told me to get up and moving, slow walks to get the fluid up and out. Good luck!

Marcy, I had a drain for 6 weeks after lat-flap surgery w/TE placement. For the second lat-flap, my PS pulled the drain when I got down to 80cc/day because I crashed with dehydration/protein depletion with the first one being in for so long. I was lucky & did not have any fluid buildup with the early drain removal. That being said, I fully expect that I will be coming home with a drain when he puts the new adjustable implant in tomorrow due to my history of swelling issues on my rads side. Hope you get yours out soon!

mkw1, I think that you should mention the pain to your PS just to insure that it is nothing serious.

MT, your implants will change a lot in the next few months. They will be very flat at first, but will continue to fill out as the skin relaxes. Hope you get some answers from your PS in the meantime.

DLL66:  Good to know I'm not the only one out there with crazy fluid creation.  The first time, mine got pulled after 5 weeks when I was still outputting >50cc.

chick - they probably won't do a steroid injection this close to surgery - steroids inhibit healing.  I had a massive reaction (and I mean massive - it almost required re-hospitalization) to the antibiotic they gave me for the BMX and the PS refused to give me steroids.  After a week the BS pulled the drains and did the steroids but the PS was not happy.

SpecialK-the spelling mistake is mine (right? it never was my best subject)  That isn't what I was even commenting on.  Did I ask about an injection?  If I did I am having a major memory lapse.

Hi Ladies, just an update on me. (the girl with the missing port).  So, I went for the ultrasound and mammogram and no port showed up anywhere.  The PS seems to believe that it has snuck underneath my TE. Because this is my radiated side (16 dose dence), he is relucnctanted to have the TE removed and the port reposition.  To tell you the truth, he was trying to steer me away for the TE's because I had so much radiation.  he have me a bunch of options, diep, keep the right TE in and do a diep for my left side, latsi dorsi muscle, etc.  I have thought about all options and have decided to go with the diep.  my body may like me better and stop hiding things on me!  He told me that I shouldn't have to wait too long as I'm already going down the road of reconstruction, so I should hear something by the end of the week for a date.  Thanks for being here for me ladies....I guess I will introduce myself to the Diep 2012 ladies.

All the best to you all and good luck!!

    Good luck, Kim!

Everything went well today! I have no drain--I'm a bit surprised. It's bad when the people at the security desk & most of the nurses in one-day-surgery recognize you, LOL. Hopefully that's the LAST time I need to see them.

dll - glad all went well.

    kim - good luck!

chick - I am apparently confusing myself (and you) I went back and looked for the post about steroids and it was tatina that posted about steroids for Mich and the allergic reaction, and your post was right above it.  I thought it was your post!  Sorry!!! I just burned too many brain cells figuring that out!

Mich_M: yeah sounds like you developed an allergic reation to the antibiotics. What did you doc say?

MTNester: Could it be that PS could not fit the high-profile implants into your pocket? I will find your other thread to follow the story.

Marcyk: Some of us simply produce excess fluid. Our body's reaction to the trauma of the TE. It sucks! hang in there.

mkw1: Sounds like possibly nerve regeneration...but yes, check with your doc!

DLL: Glad you don't have a drain and happy all went well. And yes, no fun when the OR staff say, "Oh I remember YOU!"

    Kim40: Good luck!

DLL - glad all went well today. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Ren - re allergic reaction to ABs….I didn't bother calling the PS. I finished 4 days of the pills, only had 3 days left and not much the PS could do about it. It's my 3rd time reacting to 3 different types of ABs. Where I live, there's only one Dr. who does allergy testing for antibiotics. I have an appt with him in Sept 2012 (appt was booked in July 2011)! Anyway the good news is that so far no sign of infection….the implants look very healthy (knocking on wood). You'll be happy to hear that they feel so much better than TEs…almost like regular boobs:)

DLL - I had that same experience when my TE was removed... everyone remembered me! Must have been the fit I was throwing the first time through... ha ha  ha...

Saw PS yesterday, was sure I was not healing healing right... but he says I am doing good! Thank God! And this is exciting.... I am now able to wear a bra!!! So excited! I have been in that surgical thing since 12/8/11. I even stopped at JoAnns and picked up a fake boob to put in bad side, so I look kinda even. So great to wear a normal shirt today!!!!

I use fake boobs from Jo-Anns too! They are pushup pads that are supposed to go in a garment, I think. I opened them up & filled them with as many extra microbeads as I could.

Yay, Mich & DM---glad you are both doing well & healing!

I feel really good today. I am surprised I am not more sore. At my post-op today, my PS said he expanded the pocket & moved my lat flap over a little.

dll - yay for you!  I have had OR staff walk by and stop to say "Oh hi again!" - kind of disconcerting, right?

DM - glad the PS is feeling like you are healing well.

Mich - I am also allergic to a long list of antibiotics - I don't even answer that question anymore during pre-op, I just hand them an actual list - same for surgeries - I can't fit them all in on the space provided.

I saw the push up pads at JoAnn's that DLL was talking about, but I got real silicone ones. They remind me of the sample boob my PS showed me a long time ago. They are to be used as a push up, but I bought the large pair, and place it over a bunch of gauze... viola, I have boobage!

Now, need to find non underwire bra to fit 34D ish...? any ideas? I am wearing the Ahh bra, but would like one that doesn't have to go over head.

DM - JC Penney had some sports-type bras that had pretty good cups but zipped up the front.  Maybe check their website first?

Thanks for the head's up on Jo-Ann's DM13.  I'm going to head over there this week to see if I can figure something out.  I've been wearing baggy clothes for two weeks but am ready to feel "normal" again.   Since it's going to be a couple months before my PS can even consider a fill, I'd like to even myself without the use of a sock.  How the heck do people do this in the summer?
