Go the All Blacks!!!!! Yes girls, I'm a Kiwi, may not have lived there for 49 years but it is my true home.
Chrissy, I'm terribly jealous - hope you kissed the ground for me. Are you visiting with Rae from the Bay of Plenty - I haven't heard from her in ages and was worried.
Alyson - take care of her - she's special.

Hi all!!! Sorry to keep you waiting on the happenings in Auckland so, here we go.........
The flight from LA was an uncomfortable one ........ if I have a choice, I will never fly on a 773 again. I undestand economy but on those planes it is taken to a whole new dimension. Never the less I arrived, tired and excited. Allyson and her DH were waiting for me as I came out of the International Arrivals door and we headed for the car. It was absolutely pouring outside!!!!! and it never felt so good to be greeted by some lovely cool air! Sorry girls, loved the USA but I was really looking forward to some cool weather.....lol. All the way back to Allysons' house she kept apologising for the weather but I kept telling her it was just great!!!
After depostiting my bags in my allocated room and enjoying a nice cup of tea and a couple of pieces of toast which refreshed me no end, we drove up to the shopping area near the house to explore the quaint little boutique type stores and find a coffee shop where we indulged in a yummy piece of cake and a coffee. We looked for a little longer at the shops in the vicinity before returning to the house to relax and chat a bit more before dinner. I must have been oh so tired as I cannot for the life of me remember what we ate! Please forgive me Allyson for my lapse. A very early night was had by me and I'm sure by Allyson and her DH but I did not hear for as soon as my head hit the pillow, I was fast asleep and stayed that way until morning.
Allyson and I had breakfast and then prepared for the day while eagerly awaiting the arrival of Rae. We chatted incessantly and drank many cups of tea and then I needed to finish up my posting so Allyson went to the stores to get things for lunch. While she was gone Rae arrived and two minutes later so did Allyson. After hugs and laughter all round, we ate lunch before leaving for an afternoon of sight seeing.
Rae drove with Allyson navigating and I was in the back seat, we headed for an area of Auckland that was on the water. We had to go over a bridge that Allyson described as 'The Addon Bridge'. Apparently, it was built but it was discovered that it was not big enough to take the volume of traffic so they added another lane either side.
On reaching the other side and being so well directed by Allyson we soon came to the place where the ferry docked. The original plan was to catch the ferry but Rae informed us that she gets sea sick in a row boat so we drove......lol. The car was parked and we wandered down the road toward the water, on the way we got ourselves a large gelati and literally licked away as we walked. I got some great shots of the view before wending our way through a park and meeting up with Rae who had gone to retrieve the car.
It was on the next leg of our jaunt that we became slightly lost ...... well not really lost, just weren't quite sure where we were at the time .....lol. Because of the Rugby World Cup being played in Auckland, a lot of the streets were closed to traffic and a one point we found ourselves blocked from going where we needed to. We had a great tour of the streets while trying to find ourway out ....lol...... I even got to see a shark on the road!!!
I got to see a whole lot of different coloured busses including ........ wait for it ....... yes, a pink one!!!! How did you guess! We eventually got free and continued on our jaunt. We passed some great old churches and a beautiful park that was planted wit a whole lot of cherry trees.
They were so pretty and I can just imagine how beautiful Japan would be during the Cherry Blossom Festival as it is truly breathtaking.
That evening, we all went out to dinner but before we went to the restaurant, Allyson's DH took us to a lookout. It was just on dusk and the lights of the city were just beginning to come on. A slight mist was rising and the whole scene was magical.
The following morning all three of us sat around the kitchen table chatting and solving the problems of the world as you do. Before we knew it, it was almost lunch time and time for us to get organised before Allysons' DH got back. Finally we were all ready and waiting and that wasn't long. We headed out to lunch and then a tour of the most humungous glass houses I had ever seen. They housed sweet peppers otherwise known as capsicums .........
We left there and continued toward the beach ....... a black sand beach! I saw some beautiful coutryside as we journeyed through and as we neared the beach the landscape changed to bush with loads of tree ferns. And then ........ the beach!!!!!
Before we knew it it was time to say goodbye to Rae and then it was my turn to say goodbye to Allyson and her DH. It was a whirlwind stay but it has wetted my appetite to see more so who knows, if I can get a cheap flight, I may well return. Thank you Allyson for everything.

What months can you do swimming at those beaches?

How exciting Chrissy, and what fun..I bet your own bed will be just what you want...

Pleased you are home and recovering from jet lag. You were great here but did sleep well that first night.
Elimar, there were people in swimming that day, by December the beach will be busy. Its a distance from the city on the West coast and is a surf beach but can be extremely dangerous. Think the surf patrols will start next weekend..
For those who didn't get to meet Chrissy you missed something as she is a real treasure. Now I am planning a trip across the ditch to see her.

Agreed, Chrissy is amazing and so are her hugs! Chrissy why don't you video record yourself telling the story of your travels? You can you tube for everyone! Then when they come calling for the rights to your movie, all the hard work is done. Who would you want to play you?
Tell them to ask Valerie Bertanelli to play me!!! Wish I was that thin, but she has dark hair....lol.

Yes agree Chrissy is a fabulous hugger. Okay Nicole Kidman has to play me - she's Australian who lives in the US so am I, she has red hair - before mine turned white it was red, when I was 12 I weighed the same as she does now, unfortunately she'll have to play me either sitting down or on her knees cause I'm wayyyyy shorter than she is, hope you are enjoying your time with your family Chrissy.0
