My favorite PJ's are black Vera Wangs with long gown and capri bottoms.  Pure comfort.  Love the I Love Lucy Pj's.  I have some slippers with feather fuzzies on them that I got from my sister.  They are like ballet slippers with feathers on the front. Every time I have worn them, there are black feathers all over the rugs.  Maybe I will put those on just for fun!!  Ha! Ha!

Kate, this weekend I am going to drive down and have breakfast with my dad and sister one day and then we will probably do something like gamble slot machines at their neighborhood casino.  Mostly I am going to clean a closet or two and bag up some clothes that I need to give away.

Bunkie you shall have your cake balls.  What kind do you like?  I am making lemon because Kate loves them, but a chocolate variety is in order.  Or any flavor for that matter.  I love the chocolate with coffee and cinnamon.  I make a coconut chocolate one.....any flavor you want I will make for you.  Yes, great photo Bunkie!

Gigil Pajama party it is.  We'll have to think up some really good snacks and maybe a few fun pranks as well!

GiGiL, your grandson is one exceptionally beautiful boy!  He looks like a movie star!  It's clear how happy that plane ride is making him. I'm sure you will always treasure that picture.

These sad stories about men who died too young are really tough.  I do think often men are less resilient.  I remember learning that they are more often "successful" (wrong word!) when they attempt suicide, and it seems clear they are more likely to take out their anguish in violence too.  I don't know what can be done for boys to grow up to be stronger.  I do have some hope about boys today.  The day after we told our kids about my diagnosis, my son, who is 12, started crying in Spanish class.  He told his friends what was going on with me, and all his guy buddies gathered around him, hugging him, patting him, and saying "We've got your back, man!"  Half of them were crying too, and one of them cried off and on for the rest of the day.  This kind of thing gives me hope that boys are getting more open and comfortable with emotions, but that's just one story, so who knows.

Kate, I'm so glad you had a fun day and will have a pleasant weekend.  That's just what you need!  And everybody planning the party:  sounds great!!!  Cake balls, doughnuts, anything baked.  Also ice cream.  Decadent drinks too, like a watermelon pina colada or something, why not?

    Hi Sab,

First of all Happy Birthday to your dd#2, and Happy Birthday to you on Sunday. A cheescake for a birthday cakes sounds heavenly.

Painting and decorating bird houses with your niece and nephew sounds like so much fun.

A disco party for my after chemo treatment will be fabulous. Even with a swollen foot, and leg I like to dance, and I will get out my disco dancing shoes.

    xoxo,

    Kate

RunFree the story about your son and his classmates made me cry!!  My grandson's picture made me cry, and I am not a crier, usually. What a beautiful story of spontaneous support and kindness on the part of those boys.  It restores my faith in our youth of today.  The teachers who arranged this for my grandson have been so wonderful to him this year.  They have embraced his quirky personality and made his interests important.  They have respected his needs and interests, and expanded them to the whole class.  One day they had a presentation where they all had costumes on representing the people that were on the titanic.  They were like still dolls until you approached them to ask them questions about the titanic and the people aboard.  My grandson was the captain and he was the announcer.  They have really brought him out of himself this year, and it has been amazing.  Teachers do not get paid enough!!  They give their heart and soul to those kids.  I am so grateful.

SAB Happy Birthday to you and your dd.  Your weekend sounds invigorating and fun!  Check in when you can and tell us how it goes, and enjoy those cakes!!  I know you will work it off, as busy as you are.

Mainegirl - don't laugh but toward the end of rads slept on my back in a cami with the girl lubed and free...would place an old soft pillow across my chest just under my breasts then drew the covers up but left the girl uncovered with covers draped only over the right side.

My answer to NO skin coming off on clothing or sheets at night...nothing worse then peeling off skin with your pjs:((

Free boobing only way to keep skin on! Ha:)

Suzannah and Janis Kelly just came in the donut shop. Her and her husband will have dinner, and then I am hoping she will take a photo of my skirt.

Bunkie, when you said you love turqoise it reminded me of Elvis's house in Mephis decorated in turqoise, and pink of all things. I love the photo of you.

Gigil I am not dressed up at all today. It is too warm here, and I am totally casual. Just the turqoise skirt with a black tee, and a lighter turqoise hoodie for the air conditioning. When I do dress up with the turqoise skirt I love your fashion ideas.

SAB...I must have missed your birthday post.  Happy birthday to your daughter, and to you Sunday.  Cake and cheesecake?  I am coming to your house for sure!  I love to make cheesecake but I eat it all.  It sounds like you have all kinds of fun things planned and so nice your older daughter will come and join the festivities.  I hope you all have a special weekend filled with love.

RunFree what a wonderful story about your son and his friends.  It is heartening to hear stories like that.  I am so happy your son had such supportive friends who embraced his pain.  They sound like a great bunch of boys.

mainegirl sorry you are experiencing the tee shirt stick.  I promise it will pass!  I know what you are going through, but now it seems like a distant memory and it was not two years ago.  There are better things ahead!

Thanks Kate about my brother.  It was almost crippling when it first happened.  We were so close and I didn't see it coming.  Suicide is the ultimate selfish act, the survivors have to live with it forever.

I hope everyone has some fun plans for the weekend.  Ours will be quiet, we'll work in the yard again.  We did a lot of weeding today.  The weather is perfect and I plan to enjoy it again tomorrow before it gets too hot.

Coconut chocolate cake balls it is.  Bring the wine Kate.  We'll have to have some real food too.  Ideas?  Should we grill something or just indulge in snacks all night?

Hi Michele 2013.  Yes, blisters are normal.  You could have a lot of them before it is all over.  If you are concerned, before your next session, you can have them checked over.  The rads techs are usually not too concerned with any bizarre skin situations.  Blisters are very normal.  They will give you some special treatments though if they think things are looking rough.  The blisters usually break, drain and peel before all is said and done.  I know you can't wait to be done.  You are getting toward home stretch.

Kate, thanks for asking.  Dad is doing better, although I think the person whose blood was transfused into him was a bit of an ornery guy because our always gentle, sweet dad is kind of ornery these days.  Not sure what that is about.  I hope to get a feel for it when I spend time with him.  I think he is stronger, however.

Ooh, remembering extracting my t-shirt in the morning while healing from rads.  I think the only way is open air and no shirt at all.  Good idea Cindy.  I have this quirky thing that I have to have something over my skin when I sleep, can't stand even a little breeze.  I am such a chilly willy even in the summer (thyroid problems).  A loose sheet over top as long as you are on the unaffected side might be comfy, if open air doesn't work for you, I guess.  I couldn't even wear a cami or a bra for over a month.  Sometimes they still bother me.  I just flipped my bra off a few minutes ago while sitting on the couch watching TV.  Couldn't take another minute of it.

Sorry for all of the extra stuff with the photo, but I don't know how to get rid of it.

OMG this photo is a reality check, I have gotten unbelievably fat. My whole adult life up till two and a half years ago I was 102-110 pounds. then two and a half years ago I quit smoking, and went to 125-130 pounds. I have been eating like a horse on chemo, and not weighing myself, especially with this humongous leg, and I must be 150 pounds without the extra water weight of my leg and 160 with. This photo with me looking so fat disgusts me. I have to do something, but I don't know what. My doctor does not want me to diet, but I can't stand looking at myself at this weight. It is easy to gain weight only wearing skirts, because you don't feel your pants getting too tight, and know when to quit. OMG if I was going home to Chicago right now I would want to lose at least 30 pounds, because nobody would recognize me at this weight. I never ate donuts in my life, and now I am having one a day. It is truly unbelievable, because I thought a positive thing about chemo would be that I would lose the weight I gained when I quit smoking. OMG I am the only one gaining a humongous amount of weight on chemo.

My new skirt is totally unfancy, but it is very comfortable, and I like the color. My new salmon skirt is the same exact skirt. only salmon colored. I like the salmon color better. I adore wearing pinks and oranges.

I hope everyone has a great weekend

    xoxo,

    Kate
