Radiation recovery

Also, April, if you show up for work in this condition, you do know, don't you, that your supervisor has a legal obligation to shoo you right out the door?

Hi Brookside,
I am waiting for a call back from my RO right now. The ER did not consult an RO but I do believe they consulted a pulomonologist. They did a lot of tests and even a CT scan and found nothing at all. They really believe that I am having a panic attaack which does not last for several days so something else is definitely going on here. I hope they call back soon. I need to find out what is happening to me.

April I am so glad that you are feeling a little better. When I googled side effects for Aromasin it listed shortness of breath, so I think that is the reason and not radiation, too. Thanks for the birthday wishes. Tomorrow is my big day to be 21 again lol.
Cindy I had a great time last night at Gatsby and cheesecake factory. After that we went to a sports bar for drinks. One more day to go and I am going to party again. Are you still celebrating? I hope so one day birthday parties are not enough. It should be a one week birthday party.
Gigil I got home late last night, so I didn't post. I loved Gatsby and yes I did see the Robert Redford version. I thought Leonardo did a good job, but I think Redford was so much more handsome. I would have to see Redford's version again to see who had the best performance. Enjoy pineapple upsidedown cheesecake. I bought it, red velvet for Joan, and key lime pie for Janis and whatever anyone else asked me for.
xoxo,
Kate

Unbelievable. I have been diagnosed with of all things ASTHMA! It is situational and they think I might have come in contact with something that set it off. Mold or something or other at work perhaps (I work in a very old building) and that set it off. I now have an inhaler with albuterol. My PCP said there was a marked difference in my before and after airway strength after she gave me the albuterol in a nebulizer. A 71%,44% and 39% difference respectively in each of 3 tests taken both before and after the trmt. Weird. But, it at least explains it.
My RO went over all my tests from the ER and said no way is this radiation induced. That was at least good news as that could be a long road back.
The likelihood of this being triggered by the aromasin is small my PCP said. Going to talk to my MO before restarting it though.
So, that is my saga. Sent me home with a script for an inhaler. 58 and I have asthma for the first time in my life. What in the hell else is life gonna hand me? Ugh...At least I can breathe better now and with that thing. That is something at least.

April - I have a lung condition that was diagnosed at age 51 and I did not have asthma till I got to Mi. I was diagnosed in 08. They said although my other disease was stable the pollen, grass and molds here got me. Go figure. So glad you are ok and have an answer. Talk about a panic attack. The unknown gives me one.

April I too am glad you have an answer too, but sorry that you have asthma .
Cindy can't wait to hear what you are doing for your birthday today. I am not doing anything special today, but starting tomorrow I am going to party at least from Tuesday through Friday

Hi y'all!
Happy Birthday Kate yippee! Got your princess tiara on & dancing shoes ready to cha ca on the amazing shrinking leg Ooo whoo!
Today, teeth cleaning...they sparkle...on the way to a lake dinner cruise/swim with friends:). I think 60 should=6 days of party:)))
April - asthma! Whoa...thought it would be rad related...maybe impacted by past smoking...are you actually seeing your RO & MO to confirm and take notice. Hope you are feeling better and breathing is easy calm no struggle. Yikers:(
Ok looking for my tankini so I can go tubing and not be found in my Bday suit haha! Bobbing down the river. Maybe I should use a sharpie and draw a bullseye like the rad techs did just in case oh my!
Here I go:)

April, asthma is very treatable and probably one of the better outcomes you could have had, no? I have a little experience with this kind of surprise asthma diagnosis. It might not be relevant to you except by contrast. My husband was diagnosed with asthma by his GP. He never had any episodes like yours, never had a real attack, but he had a very long-standing case of bronchitis that the GP said was really asthma, by a new expanded definition of both "asthma" and "attack" (ie, steadily ongoing low-level bronchospasms can be called an attack). However, a pulmonoscopy and allergy work-up didn't bear out the asthma diagnosis. I was skeptical but my husband listened to the GP rather than the specialists. The GP gave him bigger and bigger doses of steroids and then said it was so stubborn that maybe he had COPD--this was at age 40, never having smoked. He used an inhaler twice a day (never once had to grab for it) and bought a nebulizer, which he used at least once a day. Without getting any answers or resolving the question of whether it was asthma, COPD, or just chronic bronchitis, we moved to NH. Our house where we lived before in VT was a lovely old Victorian, circa 1895, with horsehair plaster walls, probably bits of silicone in the plaster. Our new house in NH is from 1993. After a few months in NH my husband realized he'd stopped using the inhaler and the nebulizer and could breathe just fine. Apparently it was either the walls or the junky dirt basement or some mold or something in the old house, and the house before that which was from the same era. Wish the GP had thought to ask about our housing situation.
Anyway, in your case, if there's no new environmental trigger like that, it could be a holdover from smoking, right? In which case maybe it will get better, but in the meantime, it sounds as if you are getting it taken care of.

Good gracious, April! Asthma???? Thank goodness it's something treatable, and, even better, situational. And thank goodness you quit smoking when you did. But why on earth couldn't that Friday night ER figure it out? They must see asthma patients with breathing difficulty every day. Sounds like with or without all those fancy docs with their fancy specialties, the good old GP is getting more and more irreplaceable.
Of course, I read the prescribing info for Aromasin last night. As I understand it the side effect from that might be more along the line of exercise induced shortness of breath, but still, I'm really glad you'll talk with your MO before going back on it. Now you can sleep tonight. Phew!

Cindy a dinner cruise sounds fantastic. lad you keep on celebrating. Enjoy!

April, we had a friend who had a sudden onset and diagnosis of asthma. I guess it can happen once a person's immune system is overloaded enough. I would keep a diary though, just in case. See what triggers the spells and what makes it worse or better. I don't know what the definitive test is to say that this is asthma rather than rads induced It would seem either could respond to an inhaler, but maybe my thinking is in error. I don't know if you consulted the RO on this yet, but I would definitely want to hear it from more than one opinion. Also, if you get the go ahead to start back on the Aromasin, keep that noted in your diary as well. You might have to be a detective for awhile. Regardless of what is causing it, glad the inhaler is giving you relief.
Cindy, you have fun. Sounds like your birthday is going wonderfully. Hey, if we can't wear our birthday suits on our birthday, when can we wear them, right?
Kate, I think Redford played the part better as well. DiCaprio is a good actor, but he played Gatsby being too vulnerable and unbalanced to suit me, and I didn't like the minor tweaks in the story. It was an amazing movie though. I loved the settings and costumes. As you are partying from Tuesday through Friday keep us posted on the fun you are having. Love it!

April, I'm so pleased that you've gotten an answer and apparently a treatment for it. Can you think of anything new that happened on Friday that could have triggered this? Opening an old box of mementos? A new cleaning agent around the house? Meeting in a different room or building at work? A home visit to a client? I get curious about these things. You didn't run into anyone who was smoking, did you? Congrats on staying on the wagon with the no smoking, by the way....that's a hard thing to do and you're to be congratulated.
Cindy....happy birthday. I agree that 60 deserves 6 days of celebrations...or even more if you can fit them in. The ones you've had so far sound just perfect..0 -
RunFree - OMG a light bulb just went off. I did not get asthma till I moved here and have been on steroids as long as I have been in this 1939 house. I have plaster walls and ceiling too and you know what my basement is about. OMG...have to get out of here.

Bunkie, I was thinking of you as I was writing that. I eventually learned--as I understand it--that plaster often contained silicone or maybe asbestos (!) filaments for about 30 years, from about 1890--1920. But before and after that, plaster also contained horsehair and other things that could be a trigger for you. You really do have to get out of there. I'm an old house freak, so it makes me a little sad to think that I can never live in an old house again, at least not with this husband! Maybe houses built before 1890 would be better. Anyway you have a lot of possible culprits of your lung trouble but the plaster could be one.

Ok, Bunkie, this is one too many things that that house is causing.....next spring is too long for you to be there. I'd recommend you figure out an alternative...your health is too important. We'd welcome you in Ca. Great place. Lovely people. But you know all that......hint hint

Gigil 5 more hours till I can start partying. I think I will have a glass of wine at midnight to start my celebration. I am so grateful to celebrate another year. My celebration starts with a girlie girl blowout. My hairdresser is coming to my house tomorrow, Then it continues at PF Chang's tomorrow night. Can't wait for lettuce wraps and Szechuan shrimp. Not sure yet how I will celebrate Wednesday. Thursday I will shop till I drop, and Friday it is partying in wonderful Malibu. I think I will celebrate Saturday too. Can't wait. April, I see from reading again the RO does not think this is rads induced. It sounds like the Albuterol is really helping. That is good. So glad you are feeling better!

Kate, so glad you and your family can celebrate! My son in Chi says the city is so sports crazy (and so is he). Must be fun there tonight.
Thanks for the red velvet...I just may have to go there tomorrow and get another slice (45 min. ride from here, but only 15 from my job!) or maybe I should go to the gym instead....
Hey, in New York, it is already your birthday...so let me be the first....0 -
Hi Joan,
Thank you for the birthday tiara. I love it.
To heck with the gym enjoy another slice of red velvet cheesecake.
So homesick tonight. Chicago is going wild with excitement after receiving the Stanley Cup 2013.

Bunkie - ugh! Can you move out of that house now! Stay somewhere else as you have someone else prep house for market? Can you sell it 'as is'...
I agree with RunFree house is an adverse environment ...too many allergens. Your health is too important...run...get out of there! Escape...0 -
RunFree - Great minds think alike. When I got to Mi I had Sarcoidosis but was in remission. Within a year I had asthma. Within 2 years I was wearing a mask because of the pollen etc. I have been in this house for almost 8 years and every year I get sicker. Others have come and stayed and nothing bothers them. They think I am crazy for wanting to dump this beautiful old home. I do love old houses too but like I said when I read your post I was really sure it could also be my problem. Because of my care-taking for my folks and my disease every Dr here wants me on meds for stress. anxiety or more steroids. Somehow I feel like the reason for half this stuff is this home. I was on line last night looking at apartments because what I might do is rent one for the winter/spring and get the work done on this one so I can sell it. If I start to feel even a little better I will know. If I can find one reasonable enough I can do it. It would also be a perfect time for me to downsize and get ready for that move out of state once the house sells. Thank you for that post. It really opened my eyes.
