Gamegirl, Stephanie33, DanaDane, Judy 67  ---  Well my surgery sisters tomorrow we will all be at the hospital,  I cant believe it is finally here.  I am not sure how I feel.  I think I am some what still in denial.  We cleaned the house yesterday and I packed my bag so I am ready to go tomorrow morning - we have to leave at 445am for the hospital.

Maria_Malta, Anna, Wildrumara --  good luck to you all.  I will be thinking of you.

Omg, I can't believe it's time already.  I've had a call from the OR nurse to do pre-op check in.  I've had a call from admissions to get all the insurance and copays taken care of.  And then my Dr called.  The tumor board discussed my case.  Because the MRI showed a suspicious area on the right side, and I chose not to have it biopsied, they want the SNB done on the right side as well.  Just more booby injections in the morning.  Grrr.

Still haven't packed my bags.  I'm living in denial today.  Although I did make sure I have clean underwear.  My mom would be horrified if I wore the comfy broke in ones.

I will work today as I can on finishing up the October list.  I'm soooo sorry I dropped the ball, but the vacation threw me off, and now I'm just a pile of steaming idiocy today.  But I do have housecleaners coming.  And my daughter is spending the night at Grandma's house, so my husband and I can have our bad moments in peace.

I am just virtually holding on to my 10-4 sisters hands.  Here we go!

Good Afternoon to all of my wonderful October Friends~

I've been thinking about Survivor11, Trinity, and Rockysg all day as well as those up next for tomorrow--- Gamergirl, MargieC, Stephanie33, DanaDane, and Judy67!

slgarcia~ So glad you were finally able to get some sleep last night.  I crashed pretty hard too.  I guess the body can only take so much sleep deprivation!

gamergirl~ You made me laugh re: clean undies!   Sorry to know that you need to have the second SNB on the other side but it definitely sounds like the best course of action.   Nothing like telling you at the last minute though, huh?  As far as the list is concerned, no worries Girl!  I wish I could do the updates for you since you have more than enough on your plate right now!

Kelleyod~ I absolutely love your outlook--- and my game face is ON!  :)

    Be back later!

Best wishes for a speedy and uncomplicated recovery to all having surgery today and tomorrow. I am almost 4 weeks out and although I'd never voluntarily sign up for this, we are stronger than we believe and can do it. It goes quickly and looking back, many of the details of surgery day and early recovery are already fuzzy. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Caryn

Game faces on, ladies!  Get in there and get it done.  Be strong and take it one day at a time.  Eventually this will be behind you and you'll be better off for it.  Good luck!

I've got good news and bad news.... the bad news is that when I went in to hospital for my last appt with my bs, I was told that he has to go abroad for a few days starting form Wednesday morning (MY DATE!) and that if I wanted to be operated by him, and not by any of the other surgeons, I was going to have to wait until NEXT week, ie Wednesday 12th October!!!!!!!  OH NOOOOOOOO I thought, after I'd psyched myself up I really didn't feel like postponing the whole thing by a week.  But actually I had no choice in the matter, as I really do like my bs and wouldn't dream of switching to another, so my date has changed to the 12th now.

The good news is that he was at a conference last week where he was introduced to a new type of mastectomy by 2 US breast surgeons, which they named the 'Goldilocks' mastectomy..it consists of a new way of making an incision during the op to enable the surgeon to fold a flap of skin (after removing all the breast tissue) in such a way as to create a 'bump' which simulates a small breast.  The idea is to have a mastectomy and to recreate a small breast without resorting to implants, or long specialised surgery removing skin from other parts of the body.  It is not a procedure which would work for women with small breasts, as there wouldn't be enough skin to make a difference.  Anyway, I'm looking at the bright side and thinking that the extra week's wait for my op will give me the time to think about whether I should go for this procedure rather than a traditional bmx without reconstruction.  Has anyone heard of this Goldilocks??

Apart from this, I'd like to say GOOD LUCK to all the girls scheduled for tomorrow: Gamegirl (and thanks for starting this thread and keeping the list up to date), Danadane, MargieC, Stephanie, Judy67, and anyone else going in tomorrow, with the words from that great Helen Reddy song:

    Oh yes, I am wise

But it's wosdom born of pain

    Yes, I've paid the price

But look how much I gained

If I have to I can face anything

    I am strong

    I am invincible

    I am woman.

And my date is now October 12... Go girls go!!!

Survivor, Trinity and Rockysg, I hope you all are recovering well!!

Gamergirl, Danadane, MargieC, Stephanie33 and Judy67...Good luck tomorrow!!

If I left anyone out, my apologies...there is definitely a frenzied feel to the posts now and I am having trouble keeping up...  Or maybe it's just me in the throws of countdown...:)

    Good luck, all!!!

Okay, I probably have all the new and updated info in the list.  Wow, just think of all the college educations we are paying for this month for all the surgeons children.

If I did mess up, or forget you, please forgive me, and send me a private message, so I can correct.  Today is a harder day then I thought it would be.  As it turns out, when stress comes in, the ability to read and write fly out the window.

and OMG.  There are complete strangers in my house.  AND THEY ARE CLEANING IT!!!  I am having to fight the urge to run around and clean everything up, so it's clean enough to clean.

If you have changes or want to be added to the list, send me a private message.  I'll make updates as able after the surgery.

    Hi ladies,

I am scheduled for DIEP recon on this Weds. The 5th. My mastectomy was Dec 2010, at that point they treid an alloderm tissue expander. Did not work at all, with infection, previous radiation (Hodgkins 25 years ago) and a diabetes diagnosis the same month the entire process was a mess. So nice to have the expander pulled out and a large whole left. Finished chemo in April, changed PS, hopefully this time I will have better luck. Have heard good things about DIEP as I have now found out probably should not have even attempted the expanders, at that point that was the only option offered, they discussed was aTram Flap and that sounded so scary...kinda feel like it was a bait and switch..all an all doing ok, just looking forward to getting it all finished and getting back to a so called "normal" life...is that even possible...good luck to all of you having surgeries.

My DH is reading a book about husbands whose wives have BC, and he told me that there is a section in the book specifically telling men that it is not helpful to yell at your wife's breast surgeon!  Apparently there is a connection between fear and anger in some men, and the husbands are misdirecting their fear/anger at their wife's breast surgeon.  He says he is dismayed to be a member of a group that must be told not to yell at their wife's surgeon.

Claire, I see your surgery is on Friday this week, yes mine is on Oct 25th.  Hope you are holding up OK!  I'm trying to keep myself busy and distracted.

Trinity, Survivor11 and Rockysg - Hope all went well, and looking forward to hearing from you.  Gamergirl - That housecleaning sounds great! I'm glad you went for it. My BF is going to make sure my apartment is spotless, even if he has to scrub the mildrew from the bathroom grout himself. And kudos to staying on top of the list. You're really one superwoman. And to all the Oct 4 surgeries - Good luck to you all. I'll be thinking of you.

    Hi everyone,

I would love to join this thread. I will be having exchange surgery on 10/27/11. I had BMX on June 22, 2011 and cannot wait to get these expanders out! I am also BRCA2positive and will have oopharectomy soon after. I can't believe you brave women that are doing it at the same time.

Good luck to all the surgery sisters for tomorrow...we will be sending positive thoughts and prayers your way!

Hi, Ginger, and welcome!  Our thread originator and list-keeper, gamergirl, is in surgery tomorrow, so might not be able to get your name on the list...but welcome, just the same.  It is a party no one wants to join, but everyone seems glad to find...  Sorry you have to join the fun...  But, you have found a very supportive group here...

Thanks CLC, I sent her a private message and am sure when she is back on again she will add me.

I feel like I keep finding a thread right after it kind of winds down so I am glad to be here. I have been reading some of the back posts and it has been so helpful. I can totally relate to some of the comments about feeling like here is a place I can share it all and have someone who really understands what i am going through. I am one of the "fake it till you make it" types who always answers ""how are you?" with a positive response because I don't think most people want to hear anything else. Of course not to my closest friends and family but to the world in general. It is good to know this is a place to answer truthfully and look for support.

To my Oct 4th sisters -- I've been so busy that I haven't had a chance to post today. Being busy was good, able to stay distracted but it doesn't look like I can hide from tomorrow anymore. Ill be holding your hands like our sisters who went yesterday did for each other. Here's to dreaming of our happy places while we sleep.

And, thanks to all my October sisters...you've made the waiting bearable. I'm so glad that I found this wonderful and amazing group of women.

    Hugs and love,

    Dana

Still up cleaning house, I'm afraid it will be hard to sleep tonight anyway.  I'll be leaving for the hospital in 8 hours.  Saw my PS today, he marked me all up with a magic marker and scratched around on my skin with a needle.  That was interesting. I haven't actually seen what it looks like yet.  Secret messages to my BS???  Hmm.....

Gamergirl - thanks so much for creating this site.  It has helped with the waiting having a group of "friends" to share this with.  Good Luck tomorrow!  Also to MargieC , Stephanie33, DanaDane, mauimom, & SLOGeek02.  I'll be thinking about all you guys right up to lights out.  I'll hopefully be back online Thursday to check in with everyone.  Also good luck to all the other surgeries this week.  Hope the week passes quickly for you.   Judy

I had my surgery today.   Lumpectomy with sentinel node testing or removal.   I think they removed a couple of Lymph nodes although my Doctor did not see any suspition... they will be tested as well as the margins surrounding the cancer.   Im nervous about the next steps.   If there is no cancer detected in the Lymph nodes...  there is a speedy radiation available.   I think 5 days a row twice a day and thats it?   sounds too good to be true!    Anyone else doing this type of radiation?

Thanks,  pease,  and God's healing to you all.  and if anyone wants to  play words with friends.... let me know.    Rhonda

Rhonda - I have friends who have done the 2x / day radiation with VERY good results!   They are BIG on it where I live.   how are you feeling?

Ginger!  welcome - !   You're in a great place with the October crew.   I don't know that we'll really wind down any time soon.  We have our post surgery exercise master picked out and I'm thinking our post surgery inspirational master will be egging us on as well (she just had surgery yesterday).  Join in the party.  . .sorry you're here but it's been a nice escape in which to wait.

Praying for the rest of our crew this week!   Keep the faith sisters!

Shannon - you ready for our party yet?  EEEEKKKKK!

Off to cancer center for genetics briefing today . . .anyone heard of Cowden's Syndrome?

Remember - Eyes on the Prize - let's get this cancer out of us!
