hi Ladies..And original post from Carolyne looking for Ottawa Ladies..

I was looking for support group also in Ottawa, Ontario. Im in Nepean area, Baseline/Woodrooffe.

I just finished my last dose of chemo last week wednesday. Taxol is hard on the bones. My mood is just up and down and the transition itself gives me anxiety and depression. But I think its because I dont talk much to people.I dont have relatives here or a husband. But anyone for a walk or movie or cookout, with our kids or without kids, that would be out of my ordinary routine. I would like to get together and just break the ice.

Thanks and looking forward to find friends here. Best Regards, k.c.

Welcome KC.  I'm glad you found us.  We are a great group of ladies. Will you be doing radiation?

Red -, I have the same kind of swelling above my scar - almost like a muffin top. How many fills do you have to have?

My stomach makes some weird shapes and feelings when it spasms. I'm waiting for the alien to pop out. I am finding the hospital girdle and spankx very uncomfortable, as well as my sports bra and post op corset. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I look forward to getting together with you all.

    Hello Idc-tnc,

How old are your kids? Mine are 10, 11 and 14yrs old girls.  I am in Barrhaven and have my kids every second week.  Must be hard not to have support and someone to talk to... Let me know what type of activities your kids like to do and we can try to set something up... We like to do walks with the dogs at bruce Pit and also go to the library or swimming for some ideas...

You can PM me if you want

    hi ladies,

so i went to see Dr Guay today, he recommended lap flap reconstruction, i just wanted to know if anyone has done it...and how the recovery is..and the outcome

Dragon- ya I have a muffin top. I am still swollen. I wore binder for 2 weeks and spanks full garment for 4. I find it swells more after I eat. It's still sore to touch.

Yesterday, I'm sure a small section of my ab scar was leaking.....so I put a gauze over it last night and checked. This morning, its leaking less. I will mention it. To my ps on Tuesday.

I have weekly fills, aiming for 400 ish. It's expanding nicely.

So far we have done, 20, 30,60,50....we can't rush these things as don't want scar to open up.

So far I'm lucky. I've not been in pain after fills. I'm still sore ab area and it feels like when I get up I'm slow to become fully straight up.

I did mention to my ps that I'm not flat as I'd like to be...he said well I can help you. With that, but let's deal with your implant first....hearing that made me happy. I'm a lot slimmer than before, but upper abs swollen, so. Not as slim as before there......

Hi MicheleBoot..Thank you for your email. My onc says no radiation. They said that when I had mastectomy, the surrounding tissue was ok, and blood vessels look unaffected and the lympnodes werent affected either so there isnt any radiation. But then because Im triple negative, there will be nothing at all to take for maintenance. I wasnt sure if that is good or bad. After this Im done. :Foot in mouth  And weird is that, it doesnt make me feel all better..the cancer itself wasnt too bad, it is the mental health is giving me the hardest time.

Thanks Carolyn. I sent you a private message.

Hi all….why don't we get together for lunch. Would Sunday work? Maybe in the next week or two? Chime in with your thoughts.

Hello KC - I'm happy you found us. Breast cancer sucks, and I'm sure it's that much more difficult when you don't have family in the area to support you. Please feel free to chat with us here about what you're going through.

Coni - I got implants so no advice re lat flap and don't think others here have had it either. You should check out the reconstruction threads to ask for advice.

    Good morning Ottawa

Hi Everyone!!! May I know where in Ottawa are you all from? Hi Mich..Im open for Lunch. Please send me a Private Message..

Looks like you are discussing reconstruction. RED: why do you have abscar? they got the tissue for your breast from it?  MICH: how long have your implants been? Is that one of those where they put the expanders first then put the implant?

    Hey Everyone!

Glad to see that those who recently had surgery are still recovering well... Red not sure what an abscar is Embarassed but I hope everything goes well at the PS today.

I got a call from the hospital today and it would seem that following my MRI they would like for me to have a breast ultrasound to complete the test. Has anyone else had to do this? I am a bit concerned, I don't remember my BS saying that this a test that would be required.

I'd be in for lunch on March 4th as I have something this sunday... and I'm in the west but willing to drive downtown or St-Laurent area...

Rachel I too had to have a Breast US following the MRI but because it was so small the us couldn't see it I had to go for another MRI. For me it was to do the biopsy and put in the clip they use to locate the tumor when doing surgery.

Ab scar= DIEP reconstruction, take fat from stomach and rebuild breast. So i have a tummy tuck scar. 2 days it opened up in the middle, i felt some pain and put my hand there and it was wet, like stuff oozzing out, gross, i put a gauze on it... its not a lot of liquid coming out. no blood.

I spoke to PS today, and they said abdominal scars can re-open,. He said to put polysporin on it and dry gauze and keep it dry. If it gets hot and i get fever---> emergency, other wise he is seeing me on Tuesday for my weekly fills. Personally i think i need to be restitched.

    Hello Ladies,

I am so sorry to have not been following the discussions. Got caught up in a very busy family life and surgeries etc etc.

For those that remember me, I was supposed to have DIEP with Dr Guay in Feb. I had Chadwick do the original Mastectomy. So, Dr Chadwick and Dr Guay refuse to work with one another. Dr Chadwick wanted me to go see Dr Rockwell. So instead, I went to Dr Watters. He does work with Dr Guay and was more than happy to take me on. Unfortunately, that meant a delay to get the two available at same time. I will be having my DIEP now on April 30th....barring any cancellations.

In the meantime, I saw Dr Haebe (Gyne) Wonderful surgeon. On Feb 9th I had my Ovaries and Tubes removed. Did not need full hysterectomy. So, recovering from that. Doing fine.

Redninrah: obviously had not read through all the posts when I sent you the message. Sorry to hear about all your ups and downs. I do think alot about what might happen if the flaps don't survive. As for your wound, as long as there is no sign of infection, it will heal over. Put some steri strips on it if you feel the need to keep it 'closed' in the meantime.  Hugs to you for all you have been through.

I tried to read through all the posts since late November... haha. There are alot!

I am going to try to keep on this site. I think it helps. I have had so much @$#*&#$)(   over the past few months, I figured my posts would just sound too depressing, so stayed off.

Anyhow, I feel spring in the air. It always makes me feel energetic and positive. I start back to work fulltime mid March. I was back at work for 2 weeks before the gyne surgery. Was off for 17 months. So long! Did well, but find the pain in my feet and legs still incredible.

For all who have had recent surgeries or treatments, I hope you are all on the mend.

    Ciao for now.

redninrah~I wonder if they could even restitch after all this time, I doubt it.  Steri strips sound like a great idea.  You might tell your PS when it works.  I follow this thread and I see you've had quite a time of it.

Here's to quick healing for you from now on!!

Ladybug - I covered the open wound with steri strips, I hope. The ps doesn't peel them off, cuz that's can reopen them if they try peeling the strips. Off. I feel better now with the strips on....

If they need changing, you just apply new ones before taking off the old. When you take one off, you peel towards the centre, one half then the other. Before you peel it off the actual incision, you peel it off sideways so it does not pull apart the incision. Sometimes they do get mucky and need a change. Never clean with any antibacterial stuff, just sterile saline you can get at the drugstore.     Good luck with it.

    KC, I am in Osgoode.

Mich, I missed the last lunch, would love to aim for this one. Before spring break would be good.

Rachel, I had US after my MRI. The MRIs pick up every little spec. So they do an US to look at the details of certain ones. Quite often they find calcifications. Good luck, I hope it turns out to be nothing.

Not to sure I will make it to any lunches in the near future.  I am getting my daughter ready for a ski trip  and my son ready for a trip to Italy and France during march break.  I only have the weekends to do any last minute shopping.  But let me know and I will try.  Would love to get together.

    Hey everyone,

Just had my US and the technician had to call in the radiologists in because she  had a hard time figuring out where and what they were looking at. They both had a look at my MRI pictures and the radiologist also looked with the ultrasound and he recommended a biopsy (in the MRI) to confirm what it is. He told me that there is a 2% chance this thing could be cancer, but he believes that it is fibroadenoma, I suppose the odds are in my corner. However, my GP's initial reaction to my first lump was that it didn't seem to be too concerning.

I am now waiting for the hospital to schedule my MRI biopsy, which should be sometime next week.
