Dr. Guey. He was great. Some don't like him, but my experience was good.

I was looking for someone else than Dr Guey, wonder how long it takes to have an appt with the other Plastic Surgeons. I heard good thing about Dr Rockwell but don't know how long it takes to see her.

Hi Sig, I'm assuming it's Dr. Guay. My Onco told me that info last week. Get on it as quick as you can as it can take 2 years. Pick up the phone and you start calling, it's still covered by the Province. Jo

Yes Jocanuk, that's why I was looking for someone else other than him, I wish to be informed about this sooner, he could at least let's his patients aware of that, I went for my follow up earlier then the schedule time because of the problem with my implant and find out that he is leaving, if I would have wait for my schedule date (in Feb) then I would have been told at that time that he was no longer there, I am pissed off. I asked him today to send a referral to another ps and he told me to go see my family doctor because there is no replacement for him.

That is soooo crappy! He is known for arrogance. Do an internet search for plastics in Ottawa and just call them direct. Explain your situation but they all know anyways. Wasn't there a woman plastics working with him? Jo

I also saw rockwell before guey. It didn't take to long to see her. She wanted to do TE and inplants. I didn't want that. This is why I picked Guey. I might be reading wrong, but is it Guey who is leaving?

Mommy~it's early days. Of course you'd feel overwhelmed. Once you know one way or the other, you can move forward. Waiting for results can be agonizing.

hello Ladies, I had Dr G as well and I am very pleased with him. He is very caring and understanding and extremely patient.

I had my lumpectomy October 11, and follow up last Friday, pathology revealed clear margins and nothing in the lymphnodes!!! Unfortunately I was not so smart and celebrated that good news with my girlfriends (which included a dip in the hot tub ) and I landed myself a Cellulitis infection. Now my wound has to be packed everyday until it heals from the inside out :( and I'm stuck with this IV bag for 10 days!!! I just hope this doesn't delay the chemo, I really want to get this over and done with !!

Hi everyone! Just getting back to reading these blogs. I saw my surgeon Dr. Arnaout on the 1st of Oct. for my 6 months f/up post mastectomy. I requested a referral for br. reconstruction with Dr. Nicolas Guay..She had mentioned that he was going on a "paternity leave"...and she would refer me.. She did not mention him leaving altogether...very disappointing ..That may be why ..I have not received a call for an app't. yet...

Anyone have other ps suggestions?? I realize that I would not be a candidate for reconstruction until the spring or next summer .. just wondering how pro-active I should be in getting this referral... It is apparently a long wait..

How long do you have to wait for an app't &/or surgery???

Good to read/& info from Canadian (especially Ottawa..close-by) sisters!

    Sunny day!

    Lou

p.s. maybe I will try calling his office tom. to find out the ''scoop''!

    HI Ladies

I am from Kanata (Ottawa). I am in remission over 3 yrs now. Ive had my fair share in terms of complications with recon.............anyways, Im opening up my services to assist anyone who needs any help. I dont always come on this, so please PM me if you need some advice or help. I am thinking of volunteering on my days off from work to help cancer pxs at the QCH centre. Just so you know, Dr Guay is leaving. The person I highly highly recommend is Dr Kirtsy Boyd. She is a young professional woman that gets straight to the point and is exceptionally sympathitic. I am a px of Dr Guays (or was!!!) until Kirsty took over. And boy what a difference!!!

For her its a 6 month wait, so Ive been told. Hope everyone is doing well...

  • Hi everyone,

I'm new to the boards here and thought I would say hi since I'm also from Ottawa. I was diagnosed back in June but just getting around to posting on here. Just felt like I needed extra support today :)

Hello Once. Welcome. Is everything ok. You mentioned needing extra support. We are here for you. This is what we do support each other. Much like a virtual hug.

  • Thanks, I was just having one of those hard emotionally days due chemo side effects and my wanting to get back to "normal" life. Reading some of the posts here helped tremendously. It was good to know that my legs feeling like jelly after going up the stairs was to be expected and not a result of me not working out like I used to.

I like the idea of the virtual hug :)

I'm 36 and was just diagnosed - confirmed Monday that I have Invasive Ductal Carcinoma... lump is about 10x10x13mm at the 12:30 position in my right breast.

I live in Kanata and work in Hull and am the breadwinner of our family while my husband is stay at home dad to our 2 yo boy and 4.5yo girl... although he works evenings & weekends as my work schedule allows at Canadian Tire Centre...

I'm meeting with Surgeon Dr Weekes at the Womens Breast Health Centre at the Civic Monday morning (9th) before racing back to Kanata for daughter's dance class performance...

What a rollercoaster the last few weeks have been and with all our family back in the UK, we're REALLY dependent on our friends right now. This thread look resonably active so any advice you can offer would be gratefully received =)

    Thanks for listening, Tam

Hi Tam, sorry your here! Are they planning a lumpectomy? There are great services offered at the Queensway Carl hospital as well. Jo

Hello Tam,welcome. I found that the care I have received in Ottawa was amazing. No complaints so far. I guess I would say, take each day one day at a time. This cancer train feels like it is going super sonic at first, but it will all be a lot less stressful once you have a plan in place. We are all here for you with any questions you might have and a shoulder to cry on when you need it. You should also check out the Canadian thread. It is super active.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I understood that the Civic with the Women's Breast Health Centre was "the" place to go in Ottawa - interesting that the Queensway Carleton does cancer treatment too... I guess I'll stick with the Civic for the surgery now I have the appointment, but perhaps enquire at QCH for radiation/chemo since it is quite a bit closer and I go past it on my drive to work...

    Cheers for now, Tam

The Women's Breast Health Centre is at the Civic. Cancer treatment is done at either the General or the Queensway Carleton now. I think they try to make a fit for where you live be it either in or outside of the city. Surgery however, I don't know where it's done. I assume it depends on the Dr.

I think the QC hospital had/having a big expansion and I believe it's for that very reason Marple! Jo
