Hi ladies,
I've been gone too long. Had hernia surgery May 4 instead of going to Israel. No way I could have lifted my luggage, so it is all for the best.
Now I'm infected and will see the PA. Wish I had more positive news to share. The good news is I'm still around to kvetch!0 -
Eema - BC... the gift that keeps on giving. Sorry you've had more problems. Good luck getting over the infection.

Keep kvetching! It means we're still alive and kicking. Caryn

Hi ladies. We've all been so quiet, I hope that only means we're finding better things to do with our time!
I have my exchange tomorrow. I'm ready to get rid of these TEs and move on. My first CA 125 test came back fine, and the Gyn oncologist said there's no rush for me to get rid of my ovaries until I get close to 50, even being brca2+. I'll probably have it done earlier anyway, but that gives me some room to think.
I hope everyone's doing well. I've really enjoyed and appreciated all the support and advice I've found here.

I'll be thinking good thoughts for you tomorrow, Rachel. Speedy recovery to you.

Good luck tomorrow with your exchange Rachel. May you have a swift and full recovery, BH.
I have not been on the board much lately for two reasons:
1. DH and I were in Florida for 2 weeks.
2. Mainly, I do not like the new format at all. I think many women don't like it, so are staying away, especially "oldtimers" like me (5 1/2 years out). I will not be "surfing" as much as I used to. But I will still try to check in here.

I haven't been here as much the past couple weeks...no real reason, other than I also don't like the new format...but I miss everyone when I'm not here.
I have a busy summer full of travel....Summer vacation has officially started for me....Next week, I'm off to my folks in S. Florida with DD#2....then on the 21st DD#2 and I are off to Toronto to see DD#1 and SIL. DD#2 leaves for camp on the 27th and I'm off to Isreal till the end of July. I am volunteering for 3 weeks with Volunteers for Israel in a program called Sar-El. It is 3 weeks on an IDF base (Monday - Thursday each of the weeks), doing whatever tasks they want....sorting supplies, cleaning warehouses or whatever....you stay on the base M-Th, then the week-ends you have to find your own accommodations....The program is July 8 - 26th....when I'm on the base, I won't have computer/internet access. I get to Isreal about 10 days before the program and I'm staying the week-end after it ends. I will be spending a week-end with Leah and her family. I will visit with other friends as well as a cousin. I'm really excited about doing this. All total, I'll be gone 6 weeks this summer. Both my DD#2 and my DH told me to stay the extra week-end. Don't know if I'll stay in Tel Aviv or Jerusalem....I can't believe that I leave for Israel in 3 weeks.....plans in Isreal are not finalized, but not worried about it....just bought my tickets last night!!! I had hoped to do some shopping, but now I'm rethinking as the airlines are charging $70 for the 2nd bag!!!! so I'll have to do a good job with packing everything in one rolling duffle bag and keep it within the weight limit. Last year when I was in Israel for 3 1/2 weeks, I only did laundry once...this trip, I'll have to do it more often and bring less clothing. I just bought a Kindle Fire, so I will use that for reading, but on Shabbat I'll be sure to bring one book to read....
Rachel....I'll be thinking of you tomorrow. I remember when I had my exchange surgery, the first thing my PS did in the recovery room was put my hand on the implants to feel how soft they were.....I had my TE for over 12 months.....The exchange surgery is fairly easy as far as recovery goes....no lifting for a week or so....I didn't have drains.... I took a week off work for my surgery/recovery......I hope all goes well for you and you have an easy time....
Hugs to all....Karen

Thanks. I don't like the new format much either, and I'm posting a little less, but I still like coming back.
Karen - That sounds like a wonderful summer. I've heard about that program.
Caya - I hope you enjoyed your trip to Florida.
My main summer plans:
- meet up in PA with the group of women from one of the Dec chemo threads on the board;
- go to my cousin's wedding in Seattle
- move to a new apartment at the end of July. Hopefully 7 weeks out from my exchange shouldn't be too bad - and I AM hiring a moving service.

Good luck Rachel! I'll be thinking of you tomorrow and following your path in about six weeks!

Thinking of you, Rachel. End of school year has been very busy and although I'm stage IV, I find myself not quite so immersed in bc. That's a good thing! Caryn

I don't care much for the new format, so I'm posting less and I am trying to focus on other things than BC although that is hard with the SE's of the ALS. Good luck tomorrow Rachel.

Hello Jewish sisters,
I hope everyone is doing well. Just thought I would post about a wonderful special service this past Shabbat (June 9) at my synagogue, Beit Rayim, in Richmond Hill, Ontario Canada.
We are a smallish (250 families) Conservative Egalitarian shule. Our cantor arranged for 10 wounded IDF soliders, here in Canada sponsored by Beit Halochem, to be honoured at our Shabbat services. It was truly wonderful - BH the soldiers, all who had been previously wounded, but are now fine, participated in the service, many were given aliyahs. One soldier was a veteran from the 1948 war. Each solider was introduced, with a brief description of where/which war he had served in, and what he was doing now in civilian life in Israel. After the service there was a beautiful luncheon (attended by about 200), the soldiers were feted and given lovely backpacks adorned with the Canadian flag, filled with books about Canada and other souvenirs. Each soldier was called up by our shule's immediate past president, and each expressed his gratitude for the unwavering support of the Canadian (and some mentioned America) community. One soldier, still in active duty, told us that he would take back the strong feeling of love and support to his unit, to give the soldiers strength to carry on. It was truly a memorable day.
xo to all.

Caya....what a beautiful tribute to the IDF soldiers....thanks for sharing!!!

Caya - That sounds like it was a wonderful service.
I hope everyone's summer is going well. Thanks for all the good wishes. My exchange went well, though I'm thinking I wound up bigger than I expected. Seven months of TEs had made memories of my real ones fuzzy, so it was hard to tell the PS what I wanted other than "Well, the TEs seem about right; I still fit in my clothes."
I'm moving to a new apt at the end of July and am wondering whether I take the plunge and go with a kosher kitchen. I've never had one, even growing up, and it seems like so much effort and expense (the only time I buy kosher meat is for Passover). Up until now I've avoided beef and dairy, but exempt poultry, so that would have to change. My BF apparently isn't ready to move in just yet, though, so I warned him that if it's just me moving in first, if I decide on a kosher kitchen, he's stuck with it. We'll see.
Caryn - are you coming out here at all to visit your family some time? I'd love to meet you.

I am filled with sadness now. My very dear friend passed away from BC yesterday. She was so helpful to me when I was diagnosed and helped me find spiritual strength to deal with my situation. She leaves behind 4 children (17,15,13 and11 year old) her husband, her mother, and so many friends who loved her. For those who were davening for her (Shoshana Chaya bat Golda) many thanks to you.
Please daven for my mother, Sarah bat Chyenya. She was hospitalized last week with pneumonia and a UTI. She's home now and hospice has been called in. She can't eat anything unless it is a thick liquid (thickness of yoghurt) and can't drink anything thinner than that. This is the result of the Alzheimer's, not the pneumonia. It is breaking my heart.
My Shabbat with Karen was wonderful, and a bright spot for me that I needed so much.

Leah,
So sorry to hear about your friend. May Hashem comfort you and her family.
My father had Alzheimer's and passed away about 10 years ago. It is a very difficult disease for the person and the family. We just have to have bitachon in Hashem and try to be confident that He knows what He is doing........
Not easy.

Oh Leah, I am so sorry for the loss of your friend. It sounds like she left you with a lot of memories of good works. And I'll keep your mother in my prayers. I wish I could say or do more.

Leah, so sorry about your friend.
And very difficult with parents who are ill. Sending prayers for you0 -
Leah, I am sorry for the loss of your dear friend. Truly awful, especially for her children, husband and mother.
Hope your mother will improve, I know it's difficult with Alzheimer's.
Glad you and Karen connected.

Leah,
So sorry to hear about your friend. I will pray for her. As for your mother, I know how heartbreaking Alzheimer's can be. My SIL is dealing with the sudden onset of dementia with his father ( who is the same age as my father!). It has been very stressful for him and my dd to find proper care for him. Such sadness at a time when they should only have happiness over their new baby. But life doesn't work out like a fairy tale. Sigh, faith is all we have in the end. I will pray for your mother to have peace. Caryn0 -
Hi Ladies:
Just thought you might like to read about a wonderful gesture that my friend Cathy made towards me - and, in extension, towards all of you. I wrote about it on my blog: http://www.joanoliveremmer.com/?p=728

Hi ladies!
Long time no see. The new format isn't so good for me. Didnt end up in Israel this summer. Had hernia and reconstruction instead. Now waiting for a ct and MRI to check out a lesion on my L2. They say it shouldn't be cancer since I was stage 0, but it is hurting me.
Aug 2 was my year anniversary of my mastectomy. I wrote this:

I love reading about all the joys and challenges we've been through. Refuah shelayma to all who need it, goof v neshema.0 -
Wonderful pics! You both look great and happy. Silly question, is Leah on the left and you on the right, Karen?
