Hope all is well with everyone.

Eema, when is your hernia surgery? Hope it goes well and your recovery is fast.

My sister is doing well with her dx - or as well as anyone can with this disease. She's a lot calmer than I was, that's for sure! She had an MRI last Tues and was supposed to get the results and set up her surgery date either Fri of Mon AM. Since I didn't hear from her yesterday I'm assuming she didn't have the answers on Fri. The thing is, the plan was that if she didn't hear Fri she was going to call the doc Mon AM since she's going on a cruise that leaves Mon so she's calling from her cell. Unfortunately she can't call Israel from her cell so it looks like I won't know until she gets back. She's hoping to be able to schedule her surgery for Chol Hamoed Pesach since our other sister will have time off from work then so can go with her and stay overnight. When she was first dx she asked her doc if she should cancel her vacation plans and was told she should go ahead with them. I'm glad she's with a doc who wants her to live her life as normally as she can.

So.....I finally met with the PS on Sunday. My appt was for the previous week. When I got there that day I waited (and waited and waited....) and the nurse told me the doc had called and said she would be very late and I'd probably have to wait a long time and if I wanted I could see one of the other PS's in the clinic instead. I told her I preferred to wait - and believe me I did a lot more. Eventually the nurse told me the doc had called again and would be very late and didn't know if she would make it in so I could either see another PS or come in the following week. I said I'd come in again since I'd already waited 3 months for an appt and knew I wanted this PS. So I came in this week and saw her. She wasn't fazed by my Stage IV dx, which is good. She also said she didn't think my previous rads should be problematic since it's already over 2 1/2 years and my skin doesn't look like I've had rads (I didn't have burn problems when I had the rads). No guarantees but she's pretty optimistic about it. I see the BS next Tues. The PS put in the paperwork to get a surgery date but suggested that I ask the BS to do that, too, since it would mean a shorter wait. Apparently the prophy mx that I'll be having at the same time will get me a surgery date sooner than a recon by itself but that has to be requested by the BS. Don't you just love bureaucracy? She did reassure me that there's be no problem having the BS and PS that I want.

    Leah

P.S. About that one week delay....

The previous week was during The Weekend From Hell, courtesy of Hamas. I think the reason she was so seriously delayed was that she was stuck at one of the roadblocks the army set up in various areas of the country after the shelling started.

Leah....I was just on the Pesach thread and when I saw your post I wondered how your sister was doing, so I came her to check in and so glad to see your post....I'm glad that she is going on her vacation....I remember when I was Dx, my gyn said that people think Dx is a medical emergency...he said its not a medical emergency but a psychological emergency...so true....And nice news to hear about a PS that is supportive of you....Any idea of when the prophy might be scheduled?  I know you've been waiting a long time.

I am thinking more and more that I need another trip to Israel this summer.  Not sure what I want to there while there...study and learn like last summer....spend time in Ulpan (I;ve written several programs for info) or just play or a combination.....DD is going to camp again so would be good time...need to talk to DH about it more....also need to see if I need to take any classes this summer to renew my Colorado dept of Ed license that renews in Sept...need it to keep my job!!!

Rachel...how are you doing?  And Eema?

Have a good rest of the week....hugs, Karen

My husband and I were away visiting with my little grandson.  I  just adore the little guy ( 14 months) and cannot get enough of him and he is a wonderful medicine for me and for my husband, as well. Came back to New York for my LE  appointment and will be heading back to Connecticut tonight. My husband finished the second cycle of chemo and will have ct scan at the end of the month.  All we can do now is hope and pray.

Leah, I followed, as usual, what was going on with the rockets and Hamas. I hope you and yours are keeping safe, but I am well aware how small the distances are in Israel and how close to the danger you are. A few years back, I was visiting Israel for a of reunion held every four years in Ashelon. After a week in Ashelon, we rented a car and headed North to explore and sighsee . The following year was the war with Lebanon and every single place we stayed in or visited was under a rocket attack -- both in the north and south of the country.

Stay well, Leah,  and good luck with your reconstruction.

Leah - Glad you found a PS that you like. I hope you get a surgery date soon and that all goes well. And I hope all goes well with your sister. Good for her to go on that cruise!

Karen - A trip to Israel sounds like a great idea. Thanks for asking about me. I'm back to decent after my most recent tx, but I am feeling the cumulative effects. Walking is more tiring; I even broke down and applied for and got a handicapped sticker. I'm using it sparingly - only when there's a big difference between those spots and the next open regular spot. I can walk; I just have to keep resting every once in a while.

Antonia - Wishing for good CT scan results. Where in CT? I grew up in Fairfield County.

Ok ladies, found the site. Although I am not religious, I am still a Member of the Tribe and feel comfy here.

BTW, years ago,  my aunt, wrote a book Member of the Tribe (it probably is on Amazon). Anyway, glad to be here.

My first husband was not Jewish, the culteral difference in the 70's made a difference, however met my present Jewish Hubby in the 80s and stil with him. He is much more observant than me.

Rachel, I am in East Hanover, where are you????

    Hugs,

Caryn......MAZEL TOV!!!!!  Wishing you lots and lots of joy and love and hugs from your new grand daughter.....I was lucky to grow up with grandparents and I think there is nothing better in the world than loving grandparents....I have very fond memories of my late grandmother.  My children have been blessed with 2 grandmothers and one grandfather...in spite of not living close by, the kids still have a closeness for their grandparents (my folks) and their grandmother (my MIL)....

Mazal Tov Caryn and welcome Ronna.  Rachel, glad you are done with chemo (I read that right, right?).

I spent the last two days in the hosp w chest pains.  Went to see the pain doc, noted the pain in my chest that had been going on for a couple days and getting worse, he took my BP and pulse and the next thing I know I'm in an ambulance being held for obs.  I had a CT and xray of my chest and nuclear stress test.  Yes, that glow I have now is radioactivity.

So, as I was waiting for the test results, the ED doc comes over, sits down, and says, "So, let's talk about your bone cancer..."  Uh...what?  He then retracts..."No one has talked to you about your bone cancer...?  Well, there seems to be something on your ribs now...you should really see your oncologist..."  WTFH (sorry, I don't usually talk this way!)!  I had the bone scan in Feb, was suspicious for mets, but nothing was confirmed because it was the same as a scan in 2009.  Now it isn't.  I'm going to ignore it and hope it goes away.  How can this happen with DCIS???

    Chag Pesach to us all!

    Hi everyone,

Eema, maybe you can go back to your onco and tell him what teh ED doctor said.  Just to be sure everything is as it should be.

I also had a CT scan and they found a cyst on my ovary.   My onco and gyno are both recommending a hysterectomy.  In fact my onco said the only thing my ovaries and uterus are good for are collecting cancer cells!   Just wondering if other ladies have had a hysterectomy and what they thought about it.  I had a bmx in March of 2011.

Any info much appreciated.  Happy Passover!

Oh boy... Onc called me Wednesday at my office... I hate when I see that number come up. She called to tell me there were new spots on my T8 and ribs 1-4. Small, but when she showed them to the famous radiologist, he scheduled an MRI w contrast and bone biopsy. MRI is Thursday, just in time for chag.

    עין לי זמן בשביל סרטן!!!!!

And just so my life is a roller coaster, the day after I will be featured on TV on NPR/public television. I guess it isn't ordinary for an observant Sephardi woman to teach a research based writing class called "hip hop, rap, and communication" to white kids at a catholic school. I wa interviewed and my clas was recorded. The producers just aske for childhood pics of me!! Much more fun than Cancerland!

I haven't been here for a while, so I I missed a lot. Caryn, congratulations on your beautiful granddaughter. There is no greater joy than welcoming a new life, especially grandchildren.

Eema, I am so sorry to hear about your problems. I hope the tests will come out all right. I just hate cancer.

I had some tests done and I am doing well. My husband is another story. The chemo he got didn't work and starting Monday he will get started on doxerubicine and carboplatin, that is if the onc doesn't change her mind again. They really don't know how to treat him.

For now, I am getting ready to go to my older son for the Passover and enjoy my children and grandchildren.

Happy Passover to all of you, ladies.

Eema - You are truly an amazing woman with so many facets. Of course you belong on TV! Please send us a link if it's accessible somewhere online! Only good thoughts for your MRI.

My kitchen was cleaned to about where I usually like it. Parents arrived an hour ago and we're all napping/resting - Mom and I will start dinner soon. We kept it simple. I think the charoset will be the most complicated thing to prepare!

Hag Sameach to all! I am ready for my exodus out of cancerland.

    Hi Girls,

Hope you had a sweet Pesach.  Just heard from my MO--all spots look like hemangiomas not consistent with mets except for two tiny spots on my liver that are too small to biopsy.  The 'lets wait till they get bigger' kind of freaks me out, but I'm glad that at least one radiologist thinks I'm OK.

Has anyone sent their slides to a third party for evaluation?

    Eema,

That sounds like very good news! My regular onc and all services are via a completely self contained HMO but every few months any new slides and films are sent to Stanford for a second opinion. I find this very comforting. Caryn
