It's like Roseanne Roseannadanna used to say on SNL - if it's not one thing, it's something else. It sounds to me that really have a handle on what's going on. And sometimes, it is the meds. I spend most of my days thinking I'm showing early signs of dementia, along with joint pain, depression, etc. It is just the way it is. And it seems no one could expect more or better from you.

Shayne....I was in the same boat as you this summer ....second round of menopause with Letrozole!!!! I fought it as long as I could with exercise, proper diet and therapy...nothing worked....finally went to see my GP and I'm now taking Zoloft plus an anti-anxiety med, if I need it. Has changed my life...depression gone and I'm left with some anxiety from time to time which my med takes care of. Speak with your GP.....

I had to go on Zoloft when I was going through menopause (the first time) because my

hormones were all out of whack.....some irony here as I'm 95% ER pos and 50% PR pos.

Yes for blurred vision, someone on here does, (I don't reember who) and they did go to the eye Dr. (but I don't remember the outcome) I'm sorry but I have trouble trying to remember things. Anyway so it might wevy well be a side effect.

camillegal - but you have a very good memory because you read it recently on Illinois Ladies.

I've been reading along here because this will likely be my next AI if I'm cleared by my ophthalmologist and MO.  I am recovering slowly from swelling in my optic nerve after stopping anastrozole over 3 weeks ago.  Had substantial blurring in one, the other or both eyes upon waking in the night and, as it progressed, blurring ran into the daytime, often taking hours to resolve.  Blurring never initiated during the daytime.  A puzzle not yet explained.  I also had a moderate headache that wouldn't resolve until stopping anastrozole.

Now we are waiting for it to heal and determine if I can go on another AI or Tamoxifen.  All of them have this as a very, very, very (did I stress that enough) SE.  You can find it mentioned in Tam literature if you dig, but very difficult to find with the AIs.  Neither my BS or MO have dealt with this before.  My ophthalmologist found evidence of a swollen optic nerve on one eye, but not on the one that was giving me more trouble.

There are several other more common conditions that cause blurred vision SEs dry eye, floaters and cateracts.  Others are age related that have nothing to do with AIs.  I strongly suggest you see an ophthalmologist.  Better yet one who has some experience working with cancer treatments.  If they don't find a more common SE, then push to have your optic nerve examined more closely.

I have cataracts - most likely from rads.  Not happy about this.

Opposed to taking anti-depressives.  Im not a pharmacy person.  It isnt every day and exercise seems to help.  No anxiety. Ive gotten a lot of help with dealing with anxiety with psych-K and other methods that have worked.  Havent taken a xanax since my surgery.  Will look in to alternative methods for dealing with moods etc.

Shayne I really give u credit for not going all druggy--u are a strong individual and i respect that. And if u can find alternatives to meds go for it--it will no doubt be better for u in the long run.

Ive had great luck with alternative non drug treatments for anxiety/depression the past few months.

I dont use chemicals in my home - I dont put any in my body, if I can help it.  Its just my thing, esp after a cancer dx, and just for the health of my liver and overall future health.

I do remember experiencing this during menopause.....and had a lot of luck using EPO, which is NOT recommended post cancer.

Hello! Mind if I join you? I just started taking Aromasin today (in combination with Saracatinib on a clinical trial), following progression on Tamoxifen, Arimidex, Xeloda, then Taxol. I've had a look through this thread and have got loads of great information already, so I'm ready for the fight again... Hoping for all of the benefits and none of those nasty SEs!!! And loving the cat photo, Camillegal!

For those who are having difficulties with memory, learning new things, confusion, knowing what word to say but notable to get it out - have you tried Ritalin? It was just suggested to me by my MO.

Beware of Ritalin - it was used for kids to make them concentrate better in school. My son took it for a while; he had terrible headaches, got hyperactive, couldn't sleep at night. Maybe it is ok for adults---

Shayne that's one drug I wouldn't want. Maybe cuz I remember to many kids on that years ago felt bad for them. From a medical point of view I really don't know about it, I just don't like the sound of it. Besides it's not like I'm working so I have to remember or be correct with vocabukary I talk to my family, and friends and write to u guys so I figure everyone accepts me and thst's it. LOL Did u go to the post I sugested it's really good.

I play Scrabble on-line (just started a couple of weeks ago and love it) I also do Sudokus. Both good to get your brain working. I have trouble remembering names of people lately - I don't mean family and friends, but famous people's names. The other day I spent 2 days trying to remember the women who played in the move "The Birds". It drove me crazy. Finally I remembered: it was Tippi Hedren.

Also, if I can't remember a name of something; like a name of a vegetable for example I run thru the alphabet. That usually helps--

Thank you for the link to the article I'm well aware of the side effect potential of Ritalin and also its street value. And I do not want to take more drugs than I need to. But I am still working and my performance is suffering. I go through periods of confusion that I think may be close to early onset dementia. I thought this was a forum to find out if anyone had experience with Ritalin, so I posed a question

Bubbe, I've considered whether ADD meds might help me, like you, my work is suffering and I can't afford not to be working. In the end I decided I didn't need to add more meds, but I did try to reorganize my life a little to make work a little more manageable. I'm a teacher, so I know how to work with some of these issues with students ( both on and off medication). Check out ADDitude magazine ( online). They have sections devoted to managing ADD issues at work in adults. Whether the issue is ADD or med side effects, the tips are very helpful.
