I was taking melatonin for a while when I was on Arimidex. I thought that it was actually recommended for bc patients, and there was some research that indicated it was beneficial. Not sure where or when I read that, but 20mg was the safe dose. I used to take 15mg to help me sleep.

I don't take it much anymore only rarely.

I'll have to look at Dr Google and see what I can find. My dr didn't think it was a problem either as it is a naturally occurring chemical in the body.

I can't easily cut and paste links, as I'm using an iPad, but just google melatonin and breast cancer and there's tons of articles, it is beneficial to use for bc patients, especially er+

Yes, I do take the aromasin with food and no I don't take any pain meds. It just came on all of a sudden and happens several times a day and during the night. I read that it is a rare side effect of aromasin. Maybe it will work itself out. Thanks.

JMW It might be rare, but I have heard many people that that has happened to. U have to wonder why that would happen, I guess there's a chance it does something to u stomach. But I wonder why. Can u take Zantac or tums????

Question for Aromasin users - are you having increased knee pain? I already have some arthritis but it was tolerable before BC. Femara caused unbearable pain so MO switched me to Aromasin. I don't know if my arthritis is that much worse in the six months (since Aromasin) or if the meds are making the pain worse. The pains wakes me during the night.

If Aromasin is contributing to the pain - what you have discovered helps the reduce the pain?

Ohio Yes I have plenty of knee pain and bone pain, but I think it's activated all arthritis thru my body, because at re beginning of this crazy road we're on One scan showed some arthritis and later it showed loads of it. And I think Aromisin just keeps it onoin out loud so I take pain pills--I'm a chicken anymore. Bouk, bouk, bouk

Re: knee pain and Aromasin. Did some more research and found a thread somewhere where a gal said she takes fish oil, calcium and vitamin D (while on Aromasin) and it helps the pain.

I realized I did not take Caltrate last week and my knee pain was almost unbearable. Just 1.5 days back on Caltrate 600-D and can fell a big improvement.

If you are having join pain, try Caltrate - or any other calcium with vitamin D. I am hoping the week continues as good as it started.

ok, I sleep well, usually or when I do not have a UTI.....but then again, I do take singular for alergies and that makes one sleepy

I am real scientific on the water I drink, have my quota to hit each day and on gym days, I add 24 oz and that seems to work

Ohiome Interesting about the knee pain.  I have been back and forth to Ortho doc and PT for severe knee pain.  They did arthrocopic surgery last Jan finally and they said my knee was bone on bone arthritis and I would probably need a replacement this year.  So I do notice the pain is much worse on the Aromasin and wakes me up nights., but I've been on Arimidex, and Tomoifen too, and it's more tolerable on the Aromasin.

Two days ago I started having pain in my left knee! I do think this is a se from the Aromasin. My left arm was hurting for awhile, but let up just before the knee kicked in. I have my Aleve at the ready and it seems to help.

Femara caused me intense knee pain. I made it five months until chemo started. After chemo and radiation my MO started me on Aromasin to see if it was better. I started Caltrate at the same time. Didn't realize the correlation between the Caltrate and pain but I am paying attention to it closing now. I would be ecstatic if two Caltrate a day was the solution for unbearable pain! I also take Meloxicam daily for arthritis. I'm wondering if I can back off the Meloxicam.... food for thought.

Today was really good - hoping for the same tomorrow.

My knee pain is worse and now I have shoulder pain that radiates down the arms to hands. I will see BS tomorrow and plan on talking about it. I have tried the glucosamine and don't see a difference. The only thing that does help is a hot tub; to bad I can't live in one. May have to check out the catnip tea; just know my kitties love their catnip!!

Glucosamine didn't help me. We are all so different in needs and solutions. I'm keeping my fingers crossed the Caltrate 600-D does the trick. Last evening was good and usually me knees are unbearable by evening.

Got home last night after working a 12 hour shift and felt like crap or worse then usual. My head hurt, neck stiff, head hurt worse whenever I moved my head, felt like all my nerves were hanging outside my skin, ached, back hurt so bad I could hardly walk, chills freezing to death, crawled un the electric blanket with it turned on high yet no fever. I don't know what is going on. Still feel about the same but not as extreme. Noted pain in the left tended runing from my breast down my arm several weeks ago, numbness and pain in my breast and after measuring a 1" increase in arm circumfrance and 2.5" increase in my breast. I don't know if I'm developing lymphedema, flu, more cancer or if SE of aromasin is kicking in as it is 1 week short of 3 months. I'm stuck in the middle of no where in Taos NM my ON is in Santa Fe and my Surgeon is in San Antonio. I'm sick of people telling me how lucky I'm (I would be lucky if this had never happen) and what a good attitude I have and how strong I am (If they only knew).

Just need to dump, my pity glass is over flowing but I will be seeing my Oncologist in two weeks and leave for San Antonio in Nov for 2nd stage of reconstruction. Maybe they will give me stronger antidepresents and pain medications (before I kill my liver!)

Are those your dogs? They are gorgeous!

It sounds like good old-fashioned flu, but I'm not a doctor.  The swelling could be lymphedema - maybe someone else can chime in on that since I was lucky and never good it.

I had a mastectomy and reconstruction, but that was in 1982 when things were done differently. I had 17 nodes removed and have never regained feeling in the arm down to the elbow. Also I'm still numb all thru my armpit and down to my waist. But no pain at least. At first though, I had a feeling like ants were crawling in my breast. And of course, since there is no sensation you can't scratch anything.

I think you should call your doctor and tell him about your symptoms. He may want to see you and hopefully you can get someone to drive you. Pet your dogs - that always makes me feel better.

Seabeal - everyone deserves a pity party. No matter what it is the 'journey' is not an easy one. 'Lucky' and 'good attitude' are like finger nails on a chalkboard.

I suggest you call you doctor about your arm and breast. If it is lymphedema you need to find treatment. May want to jump on the GRRRRR....... board and ask some of the LE experts what they think.

Aromasin (any AI) does play with emotions. Ativan is my friend - helps with anxiety. Probably isn't a way of life but niether is the alternative.

    Best wishes.

    yeap, pet your dogs

sounds a lot like the flu to me but I would be on the phone to the onco to report in! I know mine would see me and likely suggest we switch the brand of med

go play with the dogs, I believe it is a statisical fact that animals are calming.....or try it

seabeal, many of your symptoms might indicate cellulitis--fluish feeling, some swelling, pain down the arm or breast. That's a very serious kind of infection that may or may not result in fever, but it can spread like wildfire and become systemic. Please get to a doctor or urgent care today, if you haven't already. Better safe than sorry!

Here's information on cellulitis post-bc treatment:
