Someone here asked the difference between flat and circular knit garments. I was told flat helps move the fluid up and out more efficiently. Circular they said only contains swell.( They are knitted differently.) But there could be a difference of opinion in this because everyone is so unique and what works for one won't fit another. I do believe flat is more cooler and breathable unfortunately they only have a few OTS flats. It's always made as a custom garment. You always see burn patients in a flat custom knit. I have a couple circular I wear on special occasion with gauntlet just because they look nicer. Circular is really stretchy and flat is low stretch. If you have weird shape arms flat is the way to go or if you can't fit into circular. But yup Im flat otherwise and flat....in more ways than one!

If you only need containment or prevention for exercise or flying circular works fine.

I'm not doing well at keeping up with 5 days since our pool closed & water aerobics ended last week. However I did go to a wonderful chair yoga class today. Good stretches, great breathing training and she's teaching us some acupressure techniques. The teacher is an oncology nurse & started this class at the hospital specifically for cancer patients. She then convinced her management to open the class to anyone who's interested. It's free and they even pay the parking. I don't believe I've ever been as calm as I was after this class. Silver Sneaker tomorrow so a good workout ahead.

I joined the YMCA's LiveStrong program near me which allows me free use of all of the programs for the 12 weeks. I am doing 5:30 a.m. water aerobics three days a week , then a variety of exercises with the LiveStrong folks twice a week. Tonight will be my first experience with TRX, using the bungees and suspended ropes to exercise

    1. MinusTwo- what's this about using caution when flying in a plane or going from sea level to the mountains of Colorado & getting lymphodema?! Can you tell me everything you know about using caution when traveling? Not one doctor mentioned any of these cautions to me let alone gave me any info on lymphodema. I had 2 sentinel nodes removed & they were clear of cancer. Should I be concerned of developing this when flying or traveling

BadLuck - if you've had any nodes removed, you are at risk for the rest of your life. LE can come calling anytime - 10 years later or when you prick your arm on a rose thorn or get a bad burn on your arm or whenever. OR NOT. So far I only have truncal & breast LE. I really don't want it to continue into my arm(s). Therefore as a preventative, whenever I fly I wear sleeves and gauntlets. I also wear sleeves and gauntlets if I'm doing lots of repetitive activities with my arms. I also wear a compression bra 24/7. My goal is to stop progression - which may or may not work but has for 5 years so far.

No - doc's don't usually discuss or give out info about LE. Doc's don't usually know much. One report from a Stanford doc said that in 4 - 10 years of medical school, the average instruction about LE is less than an hour. (I think he said 15 minutes, but I don't want to over state). When I asked, my BS and my PS both said pooh, pooh. After my first surgeries, I took myself to a doc who specialized in wound care and LE. He diagnosed mild truncal LE on the left and recommended a compression vest/bra and sleeves/gloves for flying. After the 2nd surgery (ALND) and subsequent radiation, the RO recognized it immediately on the right and sent me to a great LT/PT specialist.

I'm sure other members will chime in.

If you haven't seen this site yet, do spend time reviewing & reading. We must do whatever we can to protect ourselves. And there are lots of active LE threads on BCO.

    Hello Bad luck,

What Minus 2 said is similar to what I have read and was told by my LE therapist.Have you been DX with LE? If so, get a certified therapist ASAP to treat it. As I understand it, when flying ,it has to do with the change is pressure in a plane as compared to normal gravity pressure on the skin. I have breast LE only but was never advised to use a compression sleeve . I may ask my therapist about that. I also think the web site step up speak out is excellent.

I had no idea how busy I would be after school started!! September is a blurr! I had over 30,000 steps a few days and can now run a mile in 15 minutes or less. That's a big accomplishment for me! I had not physically ran (like really ran) in over a year. Feels good! I went to PT last night and my LE therapist said...you are getting so small! I don't know of I'm still losing or if it's just rearranging. ..lol. either why...she noticed and she knows my body pretty good now. I'm loving my new car! It's so big! No one passes me unless I let them!

Now on to the weather. .the storm hit here last night. We had no idea of the mess it caused until the sun came up. The yard is a mess and we lost to of our big canopies. My SIL was using them at the garage to cover a car he was working on. The wind got them both. The rental properties are a mess AGAIN! In 10+ years the river has not gotten out and it's gotten out several times in the pass 6 months.

Hope all are well and feeling smug!! I am still reading along but rarely have time to post!

This was 2 days ago. Just got the last flood cleaned up and new grass planted.

DH won't let me help on the properties anymore. Kind of bums me out. Before BC I would help get the until ready for the next tenant. Since my LE diagnosis he says no way! He knows I will over work and over lift. So I just get to bring lunch if he's hungry.

The weather is finally starting to change and I have had a head ache for 2 days. My hand and arm are swelling. I just want to whin....and sleep!

Varga yes BC and LE can really tax our bodies. I'm glad your listening to DH because we don't want you to get a le flare or worse. Let him do the heavy work and you make a nice meal inappreciation. Going for 45 min walk sometime today but a bit fatigued from my shingles shot which I requested in the butt not arm.

Hugz - love your reward. I've fallen off the edge of my commitment. Yes, I'm still getting to Silver Sneakers classes two days a week and I've added Chair Yoga on Mondays, but life seems to have intruded into my other exercise plans. Maybe I can get back on track in November. Fortunately I've managed to hold the line at 2-3 lbs in the month since water aerobics ended. That of course depends on no bread. (sigh) Surely winter weight gain will get worse if I don't get up off my butt. You all are always an inspiration.

I spent the weekend down and out with anuncooperative back. I had to resort to my little red walker and my lift chair to get to standing, and then work through a few minutes of spasms before walking upright. Hopefully will get back to work tomorrow. I have been doing my 5:30 am water classes 3 days a week and LiveStrong 2 nights a week. Looking forward to getting back to these activities now that I am down to a dull pain only when coming to stand. I think there should be a Lemon Law for bodies like there is for cars.

Laural, i'm so sorry! Do the water classes help? Thank goodness for little red walkers when we need them, but hope it's soon packed away in a corner somewhere again. As for Lemon Laws, sounds like you've got quite a lemonade business going--BRAVA!

I'm keeping up and even stepping it up now that our desert temps are mellowing out. Besides all the gardening (everything's popping up out of the ground so green and enthusiastic--love it!), we're walking lots of places instead of hiding out in air conditioned cars. Today it was to the hardware store for an inner tube for a flat tire on the garden wagon. Haven't managed to wrestle that doggone thing into the tire yet, but I'm not giving up!

    Onward!

Throw me a ropen ladies!! I'm drowning in tennis matches, guitar lessons, dentist appointments, hair appointments and whatever else the grandkids need!! I am trying to stay with the 30 a day but most of the time I do a mile run and I can do it in 15 minutes that plus my step total is all I go now! Oncologist appointment tomorrow wish me luck!

My back allowed me to return to work today...still a bit grumpy, but at least getting along with all my other body parts again. We did Circuit training tonight in LiveStrong...kettle balls, push ups, crunches, Bozu balance disk, ropes, weights, cardio...2 minutes for each station with 10 minute cardio breaks in between a few sections. I am ready for bed but so glad to be moving after 3 days of pain. I am working hard to not let this back issue derail my progress. Swim at 5:30 a.m., then work, followed by a quiet evening. Let’s keep moving everybody as it helps our bodies to deal better with the shortening sunlight and increasing colds and flus out there
