happy New Year to you all - sorry it's a bit late as haven't been on here.

We are at Mt Maunganui and its hot. Got ourselves a couple of mountain bikes for our Christmas pressies so been doing some biking around here. My arm has been playing up a bit lately - tender in my underarm etc so trying not to think bad thoughts about what it could be. It could be a bit of Lymphodema but of course I start thinking about blood clots and Cancer - all the baddies first. It was 2 years ago on New Years Day I felt my lump and we were up here at the Mt also.

Nice photo with the duck kt....but you aren't smiling for the camera :):)

We just got a kitten baby - she's so cute. Called her Astra. This is her with my girl and my partner Tim xx

    Hi Kruise,

Astra is adorable. Looks like she already has catitude!

Sending good thoughts for the underarm concern and hoping it's nothing to be concerned about.

    Thanks for sharing the pics!

Nice to see some pics :)

I hate having my photo taken- hence facing the other way ;)

Love the kitten, so cute, hope your armpit feels better soon, Kruise. Sounds nice to be at the Mount. Hot for mountain biking tho- ok in the morning or evening I guess.

Love the caravan Woody. Looks like a fun way to holiday.

It is so nice to have sunny weather :) I'm getting heaps done in the garden, when it's cooler. Chilling out when it's too hot.

    Have fun everyone!!

thanks everyone. Yes she certainly has cattitude Terre! Astra is a British shorthair Woody or like a British Blue. She's 10 weeks old and still really little though photos never seem to show that :)

Good you are getting stuff done in the garden Kt. We did bike today in the middle of the day but yes it's far too hot usually - early evening is much better. I'm enjoying my sleepins too much at moment to do the early option.

Glad everyone is ok and all going as well as it can be. xx

Hi everyone, hope you had a happy New Year and hasn't the weather been fabulous. I'm back at work after only 3 days off plus the stats but that was enough. I didn't do anything just wanted to relax after my tumultuous year. I had an old girlfriend come over from America and another friend took her on a road trip. We were all in America 30 years ago and have remained good friends. I didn't go because I just wanted to rest. She went back home to the USA last night and I started work again yesterday so just like that it is all over and life resumes as per normal. I had my 54th birthday on the 1st, trying to forget how old I am. Crap day for a birthday - thanks Mum :)This time last year I was having my biopsy, I remember having the flu as well and trying not to sneeze while my boob was in the mammogram machine and they were removing samples with that loud sounding machine. Kiwi thanks for your suggestion that we meet up for lunch but I only get half an hour for lunch so no sooner would I meet you and say hi and I would have to turn around and come back to work. So I don't think that would work. How is your Chemo going? I read about the Port problem. How are you feeling Shazza, has your nausea gone? I hope everyone else is ok. My underarm is sore again and I'm sick of worrying about it, no one seems to be that worried and I never heard the results of my MRI so that must have been all good. I will mention it again at my next Onco visit. God I hope 2015 is a good year for all of us. Oh well, I better get back to work. Kind regards to all, Donna xxxxx

Happy (belated) birthday, Donna! Hoping no news is good news on the MRI front. I had armpit pain on the lumpectomy side off and on for nearly two years after the surgery. And all my MRIs were clear. My MO said it was my body reminding me that I'd had surgery. Like missing half a boob wasn't enough of a reminder. It was stressful, however, and you certainly have my empathy.

I'm more or less back at work. With DH in and out of the hospital, didn't feel like much of a holiday. At least I'm working from home and not having to commute.

Wishing everyone all the best in 2015!

Thanks for telling me that Terre, makes me feel much better. I can feel a sort of big hard mass, kind of like what I have around my scars and the Doctors tell me that is normal scar tissue. It is up again my lymph node removal scar so that's probably what it is. I think my overactive imagination gets the better of me sometimes and I just have to tell myself to breathe, easier said than done. Thanks again.

another gorgeous day here in Auckland. I really don't want to go into work today. I had my CT scan yesterday at Greenlane. There was no one there. Parking was a breeze. I have clinic on Monday then back to chemo on Tuesday. hopefully the break will make it easier to tolerate.

Kruise I love your kitty photos. You can see she has a lot of character.

Have a great day everyone and enjoy the sunshine if you can.

Glad to see that everyone is well and enjoying the summer weather. Looks like everyone has had a great time over Christmas. Kruise, loving the hair on your profile pic. KT I am so thankful to you for the foobs - thanks again.

Back to the grind for me with a blood test this morning and back to Oncology this afternoon to see the lovely Rosalie, then chemo tomorrow mornng. My first taxotere. Since there is no urgent surgery list at this time of the year they've decided to try IV again, as they did with my last FEC. With only 2 infusions after tomorrow I wonder if they're going to fix my portacath or wing it. My skin is reacting to the sunlight, and I can't even hang out the washing without coming out in a rash - so it's the kids job! No more walking for me either, as the sun is too strong. I am going to have to cheat on the scales again this afternoon. Whinge whinge whinge. Sorry, I am smiling on the inside

    Smile

Fizz, your experience reminds me of my mother in law (diagnosed about 4 weeks before me). She had a 3cm lump removed via lumpectomy, and a SNB, then 3 weeks of radiation (which she's just finished). She still is struggling with under arm pain and difficulty wearing a bra. I think I got off easy with a mastectomy, as she's struggling more than I am.

Just the thought of going back again tomorrow is giving me the creeps. Shazza, I don't know how you have done it week in and week out. I hope that taxotere was as good to me as FEC.

I'm glad you're getting good use out of the foobs Kiwi, they were just sitting in my wardrobe :) I need to de clutter anyway as we are still working towards getting the house on the market. I hope taxotere is good to you too.

I am itching to get out & put the mulch I had delivered today onto the gardens, but it's too hot at the mo...patience!

Tomorrow I'm back to work too. I feel for those of you already back.

Hope your CT shows good results, Shazza, & that chemo is easier again now you've had a good break.

I have to have a bone scan in the next few weeks- just want to get over & done with. I can feel my spine from time to time, so am wondering about progression there- best not to second guess I guess! Just have to take it one day at a time....

Enjoy your day & the gorgeous weather :)

I had my chemo yesterday, and it wasn't too bad. The worst bit was getting a vein which took well over an hour. Three nurses gave up and then I gave them permission to use the hand on my mastectomy side, which was a last resort. It was ok but both hands are battered and bruised. Bugger the port giving up after only 2 uses. They've decided not to replace it since I only have 2 infusions left after yesterday, and they will take it out at some point, maybe at the same time as the other boob goes. I have an appointment to discuss that next month.

I took my best friend with me who found the whole process fascinating. I suppose I would too if it wasn't me going through it. Anyway, I am taking each day as it comes for the next few weeks as they said that the neutropena could get worst on the taxotere. I have my neice and her boyfriend coming from Wellington for the weekend before they fly out to Thailand on Tuesday. Timing sucks but it will be good. The last time I saw her was the day after I was diagnosed, and I was a basketcase. I want to show her that things are better here now.

I hope that your scan results are favourable, Shazza. I apparently have a scan after my chemo finishes. Hopefully it's not an MRI as I hated that.

Thanks for reading my moan and groan! Have a lovely day everyone.

Kiwi1966 - Glad you got through the chemo but sorry you're so battered and bruised. My last CT scan was much the same; took them six attempts before they finally found an itty bitty vein in my hand and when the injection went in, it felt like my hand was slammed in a car door. Sorry your port failed, but glad you only have two sessions let. Also happy you'll be seeing your niece. :)

Shazza - good luck with the scan!

    Another gorgeous day :)

We've just had the sheep shorn, & are waiting for the plastic welder to come fix one of our water tanks (need all the water we can get with summer here- it had sprung a leak!) Great to get the jobs done early, then we can enjoy the rest of the day.

Bummer about the difficult IV insertion Kiwi. I hope next time goes better! At least it is the last one :)

I finally got the date for my bone scintigraphy, Mon the 19th. Will be good to get it out of the way. I've been feeling extra tired & a bit out of sorts, so it'll be interesting to see if it shows anything new.

Hope your scans came back ok Shazza.

Well, enjoy the lovely day lovely ladies!

    Catch you later

hi - boy it's been hot today in the Mount! Too hot to do much at all really....

Donna I can definitely relate to the underarm pain - mine has been bad the last two weeks. I keep feeling for any lumps etc but none that I can really tell as being anything different from all the scars etc. it's weird when the whole area is numb anyway. Then my breast starts aching too so I try not to think too much about it.

Shazza good luck for tomorrow's clinic and scan results.

Nikki - you are nearly through treatment. I hope the last couple infusions and after scans go as well as they can and results are good.

KT - no wonder you feel tired - you seem to be still doing a heap of stuff around the house! Rest up and enjoy some R&R in the sunshine. The 19th isn't too far to wait so will have fingers crossed it's all ok.

I am still up in Mt Maunganui. Tim headed back to Wellington today for work tomorrow and my daughter has gone to Bay of Islands this week with her friend and parents so just me and my 11 yo son here now....and new kitty and dog! House seems very quiet but I guess I can have a chance to do some things for me this week like reading and walking etc. My boy loves reading too and loves his technology so he keeps himself entertained which is good.

I hope that your appointment goes well today Shazza.

KT you have been so busy - I don't know how you do it in the heat.

Karen, how long are you at the Mount for? Reading and taking it easy sounds lovely. My daughter was there after Christmas for a week and came home looking like she'd spent a few days in Fiji.

Taxotere is kicking my butt, and I am not feeling great. My nail beds are so sore, which makes processing my data painful. My muscles feel like I have run a marathon. I am having about 40 hot flushes a day, and can't sleep. I can't wait to feel better.

My daughter starts her course this morning and I have had my niece and her boyfriend here from Wellington since Saturday. They're flying out to Thailand tomorrow and need to be at the airport at 4.30am - yikes! - another early start.

Hi Ladies, it sounds like everyone is doing okay? Kruise it was really good to hear that you have underarm pain as well - I don't mean that I'm glad you are in pain, but at least I'm not the only one who suffers with it, maybe it's just normal!. I think I'm just going to have to stop worrying about it. I fell over on Sunday haha, had to climb a fence on some land by my place and fell over landing on my arse, hope no-one was watching. For some reason my kids and the men I work with think this is hilarious. I am sore all over but nothing bad with a big bruise on my arm and my bum hahaha. I think I'm going to be one of those old ladies that falls over all the time. I hope everyone is enjoying this weather. I'm finding it very hard to sleep it's so hot at my place. I'm also wishing it would rain for my poor garden. Take care everyone, Donna xxx

Fantastic news Shazza!! I hope this round of chemo is kinder on you.

Your fall sounds painful Fizzdon. A bruised bum is no fun :)

Yay for only 2 more treatments Kiwi.

I'm back at work, it's day two.  Man it's a struggle!  I'd so much rather have unlimited holidays!! Who wouldn't?

The weather has been so amazing and so hot.  My hot flushes are brutal in this heat.  So much more frequent!

Tomorrow I have a check up with my Onc (Rueben).  On the list of things to discuss is ovary removal.  I'm sick of Zoladex injections.  They hurt and every 4 weeks is annoying!  Anyone here had an oophorectomy (sp?)?

Apart from the Zoladex, I've tolerated changing from tamoxifen to aromasin no problem.

Kiwimum I'm over Zoladex injections as well. Especially because at the grand old age of 54 I got my first period in a year the other day. I initially wanted to have my ovaries out but because of my age they said no due to the fact that I must be going to go through menopause soon, so they put my on Zoladex injections which I do myself every 28 days. I freaked out and phoned the oncology nurse who said it was strange. However she spoke to my Oncolagist Rita who said it was nothing to worry about and it can happen??? To say I have no faith in them is an understatement. I will be asking lots of questions at my next Oncology appoint coming up soon. I am going to push for a hysterectomy or ovary removal. I know it's all about saving money in this country. So now I am worried that my ovaries are still working I mean they must be surely for me to get a period? Confused. Anyway I hope everyone is doing well :) I can hardly move after my fall the other day haha I am now officially an old lady and I don't like it.

  • kt1966
    kt1966 Member Posts: 1,021

Yep, it's a pain having zoladex injections! I can't believe I was on it for 3 years! That's why I used to put Emla on first, it really got rid of the pain. But I can understand you not wanting to continue....

Fizz don, I never had a period on it- & still haven't now I'm off it (must be in meno now- but I've been in medical meno for 3 1/2 years now- must have pushed me over the edge!)

I'll be interested to hear what Reuben & Rita say about it :)

It has been really hot hasn't it? I'm looking forward to going to Waiheke next week. Can only go for 2 nights as I have 2 appts next week- bone scan & clinic/infusion. We're staying in a bach on the beach :) cool sea breezes I hope.

Have a good day all, don't work too hard

  • kiwimum
    kiwimum Member Posts: 460

Fizzdon - that is weird and I would be asking questions too.  I thought the whole point of Zoladex was that it shut down the ovaries and having a period certainly indicates it hasn't done that.  I can't believe you inject yourself.  The needle is huge!  I was on 3 monthly Luperin injections, which I did myself, but it was a small needle.  Clearly I'm a wuss!

I'm 43 so am facing years of these injections.  My appointment is at 4pm so I will let you know what Reuben says.

3 years is a long time KT.  Your visit to Waiheke next week sounds nice.  Enjoy!

Quick question, has anyone had neuropathy in their hands after taxotere? I feel like I have frostbite in two places on one hand and the area is discoloured. Is there anything that I can do to help or stop it getting worse?
