Woody thanks for the horse photo. I could look at it for hours
Kruise and Terre hope things went ok last night and you get to dry off a bit today.
Hope everyone has a good day. It's fabulous Friday

Hooray for Friday
No work for me today - and I'm too tired for Pilates. Lazy huh.
Shazza, have you ever had any symptoms from your lung mets? I'm starting to- just started a thread asking for advice...
Hope you all have a fantastic day

Nope, can't see any horse hahaha!

Things have calmed down a bit here, but supposed to rain more this afternoon. We have ducks swimming in the paddocks that surround our house, which is rather amusing. The road is also flooded, so I'm just going to chill at home today. Someone put this on my Facebook page and I thought it was funny. Hope you're ok Kruise!

KT when I was originally diagnosed stage 4 I had had a fairly unrelenting dry cough that had gone on for several months. It was especially bad at night or if I experienced sudden temprature changes like going outside at night. I was really fit at the time and despite this still managed to walk or slow run 8 kms 6 days a week. I had wide spread small lung Mets and pleral effusion. Taxol reduced the cough to nothing in a few cycles and I have had no symptoms since until now.
My cough is returning although not that bad and I have real shortness of breath even walking a short distance. I have a trip overseas booked for July so progression doesn't work for me. Going to keep my head in the sand till my next scan which I think is due end of June. It's most likely nothing. My tumour never change so can't really gage anything of them. They say I don't have cancer.
Hopefully for both of us it's actually nothing to worry about. X

Absolutely, Shazza. I hope your SOB improves & you get to enjoy that trip!
I might need to go on to another treatment as my TM's have been rising over the last few tests. They seem to be accurate for me.
I'm thinking I'll just hang out over the weekend & see if it stays the same or it gets worse & make a call on Monday as to whether or not I should contact anyone. I really don't want to have it drained becos I hear it's painful- don't want to go there yet! Woossy plus plus plus

Hi all.
Just got back from GP who says I have a good size pleural effusion which needs to be drained. So I'm off to Ak onc crack of dawn tomorrow for thoracantesis- have to be there by 8:30am! ( I did have the option of going tonight but didn't want to).
Don't know how I managed to work today on 1 hours sleep. Could only breathe comfortably on my right side. It will be nice to feel a bit more normal
Hope you've all had a good day. Isn't it cold!!

PS Shazza, did you enjoy the naked magicians ?
(Are they actually naked?! If so isn't it a bit cold!)
0 -
KT thats a bit of a bugger but hopefully draining will sort things out. I know a couple of people who have had it done and most thought it was not as bad as they expected.
The naked magicians were fun. They really only got completely naked for a bit at the end.

Sorry to hear that KT. I will be thinking of you tomorrow morning x
Glad you enjoyed the Magicians Shazza.

KT, hope the treatment for the pleural effusion isn't too bad.. do they just drain it or do they check out the fluid they drained for infection or anything?
Have yearly mammo & scan tomorrow, hopefully all good (there is always that thread of fear)-also early appointment, but should be all done early so I can enjoy a bit of (window) shopping in town.

KT - will be sending good thoughts your way tomorrow. Hope it goes well and makes you feel better.
Woody - sending good vibes for your scans.

Thanks, girls.
I'm not looking forward to trying to sleep, so tomorrow's procedure will be a relief really I guess.
Hope your mammo & scan go well too Donna

So, I'm back home from the hospital. The thoracantesis went well. The worst bit was the discomfort afterwards but pain relief helps, so long as I don't burp, hiccup or take too deep a breath!
They got 1.3 litres off my left lung! (The lady in the next bed had 200 mls drained)
I should sleep better tonight, my chest already feels lighter and I am breathing better So glad I had it done!
Hope everyone's having a good day too

Wow KT! Wow wow wow! I'll bet you feel better. Take it easy, rest well, and all the best!

Good grief that's a lot of fluid KT! No wonder you were having such trouble and pain. I hope that you sleep well, you deserve it after that.

Hi everyone. Wow KT I hope you feel much better now. I hope everything goes well for you Woody. Hope everyone else is going okay. Nice to see a bit of sunshine today, getting colder though. Take care everyone, Donna xxx

KT bet you're glad to get that out of the way! 1.3 ltrs!! that's impressive, hope you'll feel better.
Got the mammo's and scans done, must not have seen anything exciting straightaway, cause they didn't do a biopsy. They said they'll let me know in a couple of weeks. Saw the neurologist as well about my numb fingers..not keen on an op, so I'm just going to let it go unless it gets worse, as it is now I can live with it. Weird how they scan the reconstructed breast, but it must be useful.

Long time to wait for results Woody. At least it's out of the way for another year. Bummer about numb fingers- I hope they come right all by themselves.
I'm gonna take some tramadol tonight b4 bed so I should sleep great
Ps are you over your bug yet Terre?
& Nikki, how's the skin on your chest now
0 -
Tramadol tonight is a great idea - hopefully you'll sleep like a baby!
My chest is now completely cleared up. Once it started healing it improved so quickly. It still twinges inside, like nerve ending spasms, but that's ok, at least I can wear a bra again. My right mastectomy should be anytime within the next 12 weeks, and I can't wait to get that done.
Hi to everyone :-) Maree, how are you doing?

KT that must be a huge relief having that much fluid drained. I hope you get a good nights sleep tonight

I am all good thanks Nik1966...I have been a bit low key online over the last few days...I have been sleeping a lot...seems to be how it is going to go for me at this stage...take care all xx

Woodyhollow my numb fingers are bothering me greatly. My Doctor just said he didn't know what it would be. The Oncologist said if it continues I may need to get my head scanned! I've stopped taking cholesterol tablets and blood pressure tablets as I am hoping that is what is making my fingers numb but they are still numb. My feet on the top and back are numb too. it's the weirdest feeling and they hurt, it's like someone is stretching them? Anyway it looks like it's another nice day so far in Auckland. Take care everyone.

Fizz I have had numb feet ever since chemo. (And now they are worse with my back problems) Vernon Harvey said it was the chemo and as they hadn't improved after 18 months they probably never will.
Must get off for a walk,
Big hugs

hi ladies - Kt I just caught up on your lung issue...no wonder you were feeling so short of breath. Was there only fluid on your left lung? Do they know what caused it to build up? I hope you are feeling better.
I survived the floods ok - our house was fine too - just water down the side path which caused a bit of a mess. Another 10cm or so and the garage would have been flooded. Good to hear you were ok too Terre. I worked on the ambo in Levin on Friday - it ended up flooding up there Friday night in several places.
Love the horse photo Woody lol
Glad to hear you are doing ok Maree. Sleeping is good....
I stupidly forgot all about my follow up appt at the hospital last Monday. They made it about 6 months ago and I don't know what happened but oh well...they have just sent another appt out in mail. I'll remember this time. :-)
Well my 11 year old needs a lift to school today - he's trying to stay home 'sick' but its just he's trying to get out of sport today lol

Ha, typical - kids My son is home today, 3rd day in a row but he has a cold. I've tried to tell him to dose up & tough it out with no success....I'm too soft I guess.
I have lung mets, so I guess the fluid is tied up with that. I have a CT on Sunday, so that should give us a bit more info.
I'm glad you made it thru the flood ok
Well everyone, have a good day today Its not raining here so that's a bonus. I'm off for coffee with a friend - catch you later

Hey KT, I hope that you're feeling better. My 16 year old boy is home from school as well, coughing and spluttering. He had an NCEA assessment yesterday and called me afterward to get me to pick him up. There must be something going around. Thankfully I haven't caught any bugs since Chemo started, so I must be reasonably healthy at the moment, or the bugs don't want to waste them time on me.
Junk Free June is looming Shazza - my teenagers are horrified that I am making them take part!
