I am new to the breastcancer.org site. I have just completed 4 DD of AC infusions. I begin taxol on 12/11/13. I did ok with AC with tolerable side effects. I am sure the antiemetics were the primary reason for reduced symptoms. I am wondering what advice you all may have for reducing side effects for taxol treatments. I will be receiving 12 weekly doses. My pharmacist has indicated that she will not be giving me any antiemetics for taxol because she doesn't think I will need them. I would appreciate any and all words of wisdom from you brave women.

Hi NanetteF, welcome to BCO! We're gad you found this group.

Until community members come along to post with their own experiences, there's a wealth of info about Taxol and managing side effects at the main Breastcancer.org site. Please read here: http://www.breastcancer.org/treatment/druglist/taxol

    Hope this helps!

No anti nausea meds... I just got benadryl and dex. I kept my scrip for compazine handy though just in case. Taxol was way easier than AC. I had 12 weekly tx. I found that I was tired more and more after each tx. Its a cumulative thing... I completely lost my taste buds around tx #5 and did not get them back till 2 weeks after I was done. I stayed hydrated. I drank 3 liters of water a day. I lost 15 lbs just because I didn't want to eat. Zero taste for food. So eat good stuff... don't binge on crap. Listen to you body. When you are tired, sleep. This is the home stretch. You are almost there... I also did a picture of every weeks treatment. notice #12...

Hi, everyone. I'm new to this group. Just finished 4 cycles of A/C and begin Taxol on December 3. My Onc says it will be easier than the A/C but I'm still concerned about neuropathy and bone pain. Hair is gone. Taste buds are gone.

I've been reading through the posts here and everything else I can find and trying to prepare for whatever comes with the Taxol

Thank you Skigirl! More weight loss is not always such a bad thing. I have lost about 15 pounds since starting this journey. I could stand to lose a few more. Perhaps with a few situps under my belt I could actually don a two-piece next summerHappy I love your photo montage and especially photo number "12." Would you mind if I copy it?

Kay and Candi- so happy you are done.

Ski - nice collage. Wish I would gave thought of that!

Nannette and Mary - I think most of us have found Taxol to be very tolerable. I took Zofran with the first treatment because they told me too but haven't had any antinauseau meds since. I just finished #9 Wednesday. I am a little tired but still exercising every day and running 3 times a week. Not much neuropathy or bone pain, but the benedryl just knocks me out so I sleep through chemo.

    Hi Warrior,

Thank you for sharing your experience! I am excited to hear that you are running. Before chemo I was quite the runner. I did not get approval to start running until about one month ago. Since then, I have run twice...very slowly...really more like a shuffleHappyI hope that Taxol will not zap my energy as much as AC did so that I can run a few days a week consistently. You are an inspiration. Thank you. Hugs, Nanette

Here's a weird side effect, wonder if anyone else has had it.  After I get out of the shower, my skin hurts!!  Not during, but once I'm done.  The water is not real hot or anything.  Have noticed this for the past couple of weeks.  I'm wondering if it's the taxol or left over from the Xeloda.  I had severe hand/foot syndrome from that and my skin hurt with that.  Hmmm ...  It does go away, thankfully.

Kayezzy - Congatulations on being done! Sorry about your bladder issues, but at least it happened after treatment is over. Now you are on the the process of healing.

Syrmom - Hopefully its just a one time thing and doesn't affect you too much.

HVV - Sorry you are having nueropathy, but almost done (YAY!)

I was wondering if I will be able to work through weekly taxol. I finished 2 rounds of AC. I go for my 3rd and 4th rounds on Dec 12th and 26th. I start my first weekly taxol on January 10th which is a Friday. Would I be able to recover over the weekend and work on Monday? I have taken a short term leave of absence from work during AC. I have found the biweekly dose dense AC to be a bit rough for 4 days. I take my anti nausea pills and feel run down for a few days. By day 5, I start feeling better and get my appetite back. I feel quite good the remaining days. I do take occasional afternoon naps once in a while but have been able to stay active. Was wondering how the side effects of taxol compare to AC. Thanks Ladies!

Skigirl72 - LOVE your weekly pictures!

Septmom - I worked every week I was on Taxol but I was lucky enough to be able to work from home on day of treatment since it was in the middle of the day. My treatment was on Mondays and I worked in the office Tuesday-Friday but for only about 6-7 hours; I simply worked from home the rest of the day. I had no nausea on Taxol but it did cause a lot of fatigue, particularly starting halfway through.

Question for everyone: My last Taxol treatment was 10/21 and I still have neuropathy which my MO says will take about 6 months to a year to go away. Last week however, two fingers on my left hand (not the side where the cancer and surgery was) now feel really stiff and sort of "locked" in the mornings. Has anyone else experienced this? Not sure if this is still the neuropathy or if it's arthritis.

Warrior 50 ... why does your doctor feel the taxol is no longer working?

he feels the lymph node under my left arm. Every time before he felt it was shrinking but this time he said no change. He sees me every 3 weeks. Also he said many of his patients see much better response on a Taxol and some even see a complete response. This really freaked me out because what if the FAC doesn't work either.

Warrior 50 ... don't go there - just cause some tx don't work doesn't mean all of them don't.  I went 18 months on various tx before having a positive response.  That was a long, long time!!  Best part is I'm still here to tell the story!Smile

Thank you all for your support. I completed by 12 taxol this Wednesday and I now delaign with the usual post infusion side effects. I also got the good news that the taxol along with the AC that I did RESOLVED all known areas of concern. I was in a bad way; it had to work or ... well, it had to work. So hang in there you can have a positive result too. My tests are no all back but thus far seem to indicated success through taxol and AC. I wish you all the same. Bye, V

Hi ladies I have not posted in a while, I am 4 treatments into Taxotere but at my infusion yesterday MO said he want's to switch me to Taxol, my SE'S with Taxotere have been increasing spine, joint and bone pain along with other nerve pain issues and dropping ANC and WBC with ea treatment so I have to get a neupogen shot 5 day's post treatment. They feel taxol may have less SE'S for me! any input would be greatly appreciated.
