    I stay far away from anything soy.  I consumed it before my dx and don't trust any of it.  But to each there own.

    Thanks for the liver enzyme reminder...I need to have my levels checked again.

    Just returned from a conference about integrative/alternative medicine for cancer.  Do NOT, under any circumstances, consume anything that is Genetically Modified.  This from Dr Brian Clements - from the USA  (I'm in the UK)

    Why no GMO? I don't get it.

     I know GMO's are pretty durned suspect, possibly the grains in particular, but, Ladybird, was his advice a blanket keepaway, or specific to us ER positive folks?  Really looking forward to hearing more about your conference.

    I'm kind of frustrated.  We all know that body fat converts androgen (I think) to estrogen.  After diagnosis, I lost 25 pounds, bringing me just a little below the obese BMI, but the last couple of months, I've gotten hungry.and gained back 10.  Anybody have some encouragement for reversing the trend?  Thanks!

    I found a link about GMO vs BC.

    http://protectourbreasts.org/gmos-are-linked-to-br...

    I also read somewhere that when feeding lab rats with GMO food, they couldn't reproduce after three generations.

    So let's round up all the GMO grains and feed them to the rats--two birds with one stone!  I was mostly interested in the RoundUP weedkiller reference in the second article.  Renewed search for organic happening here!

    June, thanks. So actually the issue is excess herbicide, not GMO. That makes a lot more sense.

    OK ladies, the majority of the speakers yesterday at the conference were from the USA so go find yourself a conference back home!!!  In a nutshell, this is what I gleaned from the conference yesterday:

    It's basically all that we already know that the basic things we need to do are:

    De-tox - be careful not to overdo it after chemo or rads;

    Sort out your psyche;

    Exercise;

    Rest/Sleep;

    Organic food;

    Have a belief and a passion in what you do

    Your most powerful detox is to Let Go!!! The way you think is paramount.

    All plastic leeches

    Drink good water - the more alkaline the better (High pH).  Reverse osmosis is the best.

    If you're in a crap relationship, or there is someone in your life who winds you up - lose them, save your life!!!

    ******************************

    Cancer is an inflammatory illness.

    Boswellia Serrata is good for anti inflammation as is Juicing.

    Alcohol increases inflammation.

    You need no more stress.

    You need Low cholesterol.

    Ketogenic diet is good - but do it under supervision especially if you are slim to start with.

    Morphine can cause cancer to spread.

    Look into the availability of Naltrexone - but you can't take this with morphine.

    ************************************

    Cancer is metabolic, it is not genetic.

    Change your lifestyle.  Develop a +ve attitude

    Wear only natural fibres - especially in your bras ladies and don't wear underwired bras

    Infra red saunas are good

    OBVIOUSLY.............................NO SUGAR and NO DAIRY!!!

    Vit B17 - from Apricot kernels

    ****************************************************

    Even if you have surgery you still have to treat the body - cancer is systemic.

    YES FOODS: Spinach, Kale, Cucumber, Broccoli, Avocado, Celery, Red Pepper are just some of the good alkalising foods

    Ghee (has butyric acid in it so is OK) Coconut oil/milk, Lemons, Lentils, All green and red Veg, carrots, potatoes, manouka honey.

    NO FOODS: Beef, Pork, (Lamb is OK), Sugar, Corn Syrup, Milk, White flour

    Cancer inhibitors:

    Cod Liver OIl, Vit D3, Boswellia Serrata, MELATONIN esp for BC............count yourself lucky ladies, it's illegal in this country!!!, Ascorbic acid, Sodium selenite, Butyric acid, Iodine (nascent), Fish Oil, Turneric + black pepper, Nicotinamide, Lactoferrin

    DCA ( Dichloroacetate) esp for BC

    The two things that need to be addressed are the immune system and the mitochondria

    DIM for BC

    *********************************************************

    That's it in summary.  I said I'd write it and I have.  Please don't assume these are my views, I am simply passing on what was said by speakers at the conference on Friday (even tho' I agree with 99.9999999999999999% of it)

    Please don't deluge me with questions as a result of this post.  You will have to find your own sources for this and it's probably sensible to find a practitioner who can monitor you and care for you during this time.

    Good luck - hope this helps Smile

    Re: Our bodies not being able to digest genetically modified organisms.  I read that corn, for example, has been genetically modified to have in it the bacillus thuringiensis gene - BT corn - this bacillis something that will kill caterpillars - it is used to spray broccoli, etc., so they don't get those little green cabbage butterfly caterpillars - and it is used in the corn to kill the corn borer.   what I read said that when you eat the corn with the BT gene in it, it will kill your gut flora - just like it kills the caterpillars.  I don't know if this is true, but I did read this.

    I would warn ladies against eating soy.  I drink 12 oz freshly home made soy milk a day for 10 years before I was diagnosed with BC.  No family history what so ever. My cousin in china told me more and more women over there are diagnosed now also. The few coworkers she knew all ate excessive soy for years.  Ironically those ladies and I ate soy to prevent BC.  Maybe it's because we ate GMO soy, or any soy? Since  the ladies here already are at high risk, please stay away.  There are plenty of other food to eat.  No point risk your life.

    julie - interesting point. i told my sis to cut back on the soy milk intake. i just wonder how the soy milk is made nowadays. i thought chinese used to drink soy milk like BJ daily. so i don't know. but i don't know what's the diff in soy milk that they make and the soy milk that we make at home by those soy milk machine. they def taste very different.

    personally i am not touching soy milk anymore. but i eat tofu (organic). i read soy bean is also another big GMO item in the US. ugh....

    Juneping I read that about soy also!

    It's corn and soy is like 95% GMO in the US. My percentage might be off but it's a high number, I don't touch the stuff at all anymore.

    Flaviarose I read that also about corn and seen a documentory I can't remember which one but it explain the gene slicing and how it kills your gut flora and cause lots of digestive problems a long with other issues.

    i didn't think about soy source before.  Juneping, you are right, they are GMO here too.  But since it's only used as sauce, not drink it everyday, it's less significant.  It's hard to eliminate it completely, just as much as we can.  At least it's fermented as soy sauce.

    I know the soy milk I made at home was GMO since I bought the non-organic beans here.  So that might be the big no no.  Anyway, now I try not to tough soy other than soy sauce sparsely.

    Hi, I am new to these forums.  I have just picked up my bottle of Letrozole.  After reading the list of side effects, I am wondering if there are any studies on the benefits vs. risks of taking A.I.'s specifically for stage 1 node negative cancers. Mine is halfway up the scale of being estrogen positive on the oncotype test, it is projesterone negative. I had a radical mastectomy due to extremely dense breasts. I chose not to do chemo based on oncotype test.  Also, I'm also not sure what thread would be best for me. Any suggestions? Pretty nervous about starting this medicine.  Otherwise healthy.

    rivercaralee, the recurrence risk given you with your oncotype test presumes you will take the antihormonal. It is considerably higher, sometimes almost twice as high, without it.

    Hmm.  I'm not so sure about the previous comment.

    Why don't you start your own thread?

    Also, sounds rather like a medical question that should really be applied to a qualified Dr.  Some people suffer badly with the side effects, others don't.

    If you are slim you are more likely to suffer from bone density loss than if you are overweight taking this drug.  22.5 and below BMI puts you in the bone problem possibility.

    It IS a very strong drug.  I have suffered terribly from side effects, but there are others who don't.  The Tamoxifen seems to suit me better.....................but then I can't see or feel the damage it's doing to my liver and kidneys.  It's all ****.   Once you get your head around that, and realise we are all playing poker with our bodies, then you get cynical and just laugh.  Your choice to take the drug or not, but I would ask a Doc/an onco to explain it to you.

    There is no right way!

    Good luck.
