Treating estrogen responsive cancer naturally

The soy available to us is manufactured and GMO here in the USA. It is Washed in a chemical solution which contains hexane, among other chemicals. It is also rinsed with chlorine as part of the production. I won't touch anything with soy.
Also, look for corn in all its forms. There is a lot of it disguised with any number of names. And it's in all kinds of food. It's also in a lot of non-food products. There are a few sources of non GMO corn chips and such, but not many. It sucks that no matter how careful you are it doesn't matter because they are putting the pesticides right in the seeds. My doc believes GMO wheat is the reason why so many people have trouble with gluten now.

I also skipped rads so ... I may be a goner soon, who knows/ And also , I am stage 1.
This is a very personal decision and REALLY needs to be thought through AND discussed with your DR and loved ones.Take my word for NOTHING!
but best of luck to you ! :>)0 -
Purple - what does hx mean???

in regard to the oncotype score assuming you are taking antihormonals... I don't think that is an accurate statement.
In regard to the percentages of GMO corn and soy in the US, it could be even higher due to wind and the fact that GMO and nonGMO ate often planted in adjacent fields.

my friend richard who got lung cancer many years ago, pre 1085 when he was then 47, had surgery at that time because he began hemmhoraging, but before surgery & after & I think to this day as well as juicing, vegan diet, took enzymes.

I'm kind of confused by all the types of enzymes but am looking into them and my doc has me taking digestive enzymes to take the load of digestion off my system. I've also read that if you take them on an empty stomach, they'll eat the "coating" off the tumor so your immune system can deal with it but I'm not sure that's backed by research. I do know that enzymes lower inflammation and I've had my CRP and homocysteine tested and both came back quite low. Also I read the other day that if you use Laetrile that it works better if you take enzymes with but I don't remember what kind. Pancreatic maybe?

Hello all,
I'm interested in reducing estrogen naturally (thanks for all the wonderful information) - I have one question (which might be incredibly stupid) - is there a way to measure the estrogen floating around in your system to see if your efforts are working? I swear I can just about smell the estrogen in my sweat (no great surprise that I've had two occurences of estrogen fed BC). I opted not to take Tamoxifen after my first DCIS and now am faced with it again (the A-one post-menopausal one, my brain can't remember it - probably for good reason) It would seem to be easier to follow an alternative medicine approach to reducing estrogen if we knew if was working....

yes, there's urine test that could test the estrogen in your system. i've read urine test is more accurate than the blood test. let's wait for someone more knowledgeable to explain in details.

You can buy Maca itself - not bound up with some Pharma's goodies with some fancy name. I bought some but then thought as I am on Tamoxifen it was a) a bit pointless and b) as the drug seems to have helped, I decided that I really didn't want to mess around with my hormones anymore. Maca is well known for balancing female hormones - you're right.

Its not just about reducing circulating oestrogen its about blocking the oestrogen from accessing cells that then become unlocked....its quite a complicated process so measuring existing oestrogen levels is only one small aspect of the picture. Having less fat and thus less stored oestrogen also helps, so does regular exercise as the increased oxygen also stope oestrogen from reaching cells and creating harm. I3C and other natural substances also help with this but hormone balancing is not something that has been shown to help with ER positive cancer prevention

Gardengumby-- The Oncoptype Dx report clearly states that the recurrence prediction is based on the assumption that the patient uses an anti-hormonal therapy. True, this statement is not highlighted, nor is it on the first page, but it is there. So reread your report carefully.

Hello MomtoIrish,
so you did not take anything after you declined Tamoxifen a few years ago..
I have also declined Tamoxifen because it did havoc to my uterus only after a few months I started and also became allergic to it, I am taking some natural supplements, but I do not want to advise anyone, because I am not sure if these work.
You may want to open the links below and read these articles about DIM, sulforaphane, Calcium D Glucarate:

Aromath, thanks for the links! Am going to be eating the cruciferous veggies - i love bak choy- regularly!!! Am planning not to take tamoxifen, though at this point in time, no idea what i'm going to do about managing the hormones, so really appreciate the links you pasted!
Have a good day everyone!

OncaWarrior - if you get the oncatype report you will see that the score is based on taking tamoxifen (given that AIs are the same or better - you can assume that type). I think either your oncologist was wrong or you misunderstood. Get the report and you'll see that it clearly states that the number assumes 5 years of hormone therapy - and on the second page, the graphs are assuming 10 years.
I don't think some oncologist read the reports - mine insisted that it didn't show my risk with or without chemo - and when I looked at it again - it clearly shows a graph on Page 2. I think sometimes we give oncologist too much credit. I actually went ahead and called Genome myself to clarify.

My MO showed me both numbers. Mine was a 12% chance w/o Tamox.
Has anyone had the BRACA gene test after diagnosis? I didn't get it at the time, but I have a grand-daughter now, and my sister's doctor wanted to know due to some irregularities in some of her tests. I'm wondering if insurance will cover it now, and if it would be worth it.

My test showed 8% chance w/o Tamox and 6% with Tamox, so.... I am thinking for only 2%, better not.... if my understanding is right from the test...

Also thai chi and qigong are good for hormone imbalances, move your hands freely around the body in a gentile and easy motion, like doing ballet, it helps the lymph to circulate not to stagnate and accumulate toxins around and in the breasts... it made a huge difference to me

Flaxseed is a great option. While it takes a similar form to estrogen, it isn't and it doesn't do the same thing as estrogen. From WebMD:
"Flaxseed is sometimes tried for cancer because it is broken down by the body into chemicals called “lignans.” Lignans are similar to the female hormone estrogen - so similar, in fact, that they compete with estrogen for a part in certain chemical reactions. As a result, natural estrogens seem to become less powerful in the body. Some researchers believe that lignans may be able to slow down the progress of certain breast cancers and other types of cancers that need estrogen to thrive."
I'm also a big fan of guanabana (aka, sour sop, graviola). Many people try to get the fruit which has been found to have anti-tumorous properties, but it's overly concentrated with the active ingredient that acts against tumors. It's also hard to find. I read the research and found that you can get more than enough of the antigens from the leaves. You can get pills of the leaves ground up from the web or stores. If you want to consume the leaves in tea form (which is how researchers used it) for daily consumption, The Guanabana Company sells a good blend in tea bags.

I was wrong. Mine is 13% with Tamox. Too many test and numbers.

Mini - I'm also at 13% with tamox. (my oncatype score was 21). With chemo it goes to 9%. For me, the 4% difference wasn't worth the chemo because I had a bad reaction on my first round. I'm definitely going to do the Armidex and also estrogen reducing natural things like flaxseed and DIM (and losing weight/exercise).
