Food for thought - we usually are seeking seamless garments of all kinds, especially gloves. I have noticed that my Imak active gloves with small inside seams, work the best at getting my finger swelling down. Ya know, I kinda think it's because the seams create flow channels. Hummm.

Thx for reminding me Victoria. Not sure who I ordered those gloves from now ( I went thru amazon and *thought* I was ordering from them at the time) but the place owes me a refund. I ordered a small and they sent a size L since they were all out of smalls . Hmmmm....brilliant idea !
I must go look for those gloves again- from a reputable place. Thank you.
PS to VIC: Do you not turn those ACTIVEs inside out then OR ? Pls clarify.
Linda
Thanks very much for the link!

Purple, no, you can't wear those inside out. I just tried it yesterday in fact. Bad idea with the nubbies. I was trying to make use of the right hand gloves. Colonial Medical sells them, their shipping is very slow, but they are dependable.

Re seams, Victoria, Actually seams going down might be beneficial. When I showed my LEist my Solidea sleeve she looked at the material with the ribbing in it and said," we'll I don"t think there is much compression in this sleeve but the ribbing is going in the right direction to help fluid move." When I say ribbing I mean the same material look you get on a tank top. So you might be onto something. Anyone that needs light compression this sleeve may work for you. Also if you have long arms because they manufacture the sleeve long. It's the sleeve with the material that comes over the shoulder and hooks onto your other arm for anchoring. It was too long for me and slipped off my shoulder. It would suit a long skinny arm. They make gauntlets. Anyone tried? They look comfy. Cookiegal or is it Cookiegirl on these boards cut up the silverware sleeve and sticks it in her bra and swears it keeps swelling down in her breast. ( by Solidea) She says its the waffle weave on silverwave that helps her. She calls it her bobby wiggles.
LEist also says that circular knit only contains arm size but flat knit actually moves the fluid out. What do you think? Bummer if it is true because I only have circular. My fitter couldn' t get a custom flat knit to stay up on me. It wanted to slip and wrinkle at the elbow. I gave up and moved into a Juzo off the shelf circular.0 -
All very interetsing , hugz and vic!
thanks.I ordered on amazon...just added a $5 CD for my lil grandgirl and got the free shipping.
I'll be sure to wear then RIGHT side out ( there's a switch!)
HUGZ
You say it was too long for you- did they let you return it or ???0 -
Linda and Hugz (et al)
As most of you know, I am in touch with Josh from Lymphedivas by email. He has been very supportive of the exercise DVD and is SO helpful when it comes to all these questions on the sleeves etc ..
I was corresponding with him today and I wondered about those channels and he said :
*This is somewhat unlikely, even with Solidea's wave form. I understand the theory behind it, but there really isn't any science. In addition, it is much more likely that seams will cause discomfort than aid in fluid flow.*I don't know, but this makes sense to me when I consider the discomfort of certain gloves . Something to think about .And LINDASingle piece is not currently on the development horizon, but custom is something that they may be able to do with the machine that will make their gloves. It's another long term play, but something worth considering. And by custom, they will not just offer a custom size, but custom compression .Of course, compression is key!0 -
Hugz, I think at least for me, that my $20 Imak glove with the "soft" seams inside and flat knit hand works better at reducing than any of my expert gloves. They are all so tight and just seem to push fluid to my fingertips. I have mostly been living in Imak Actives and Isotoners. What a HUGE waste of money I have spent finding what works. Oy.
I have a Solidea but it's the wave design. I did think their gauntlets looked interesting, but tight. Ouch.
Purple, I know what you are saying about seams on most gloves, but on the Imak I find them soft and I do see reduction in my fingers, I can only go by what I know is happening to me. If it is not the seams directing the fluid away, ok, but something is making them work better in reducing than other gloves.
When you wear the Arthritis glove, do you wear it inside out?

When you wear the Arthritis glove, do you wear it inside out?
Yes.
I wear ALL of my gloves inside out. After wearing something for 12 hrs a day, 7 days a week they surely would bother my skin. Now and then, they do anyway. I think my hands would be raw by now if I wore these things the ' right ' way.
Tell me VIC, what about your Farrow ? Do you actually think the IMAK Active works better than the Farrow ?!
The Farrow is the best results I have had to date. ( I do wear that inside out too btw)0 -
Purple, Oy, sorry, well you won't be able to wear the Imak Active inside out. My hand looked like reverse Pinhead. Pretty interesting, not very therapeutic.
I wear them a lot too, sometimes sleeping in them and have not had a problem with the seams on the Imak. Seams on all my other gloves bug me big time, except the Farrow. The farow is fine, in fact I was wearing it today, But yes, I think the Imak is better at reducing than the Farrow. The Farrow is the most comfortable of all the regulation class gloves by far, still I see no reduction. But fortunately no adverse gains.
After a day of whatever activity and wearing a regular type compression glove, I switch to Imak for a break or reduction if swelling arises. Which would then beg to ask, why do I even bother wearing "regular" class compression gloves at all? Well I'm really starting not to. I mostly use Imak and Isotoner, and now only occasionally the Farrow. I dread the thought of my Medi 95 or Juzo Varin, oy!

Well I jot my JoViPak today, that was fast! I was a bit disappointed to learn it is considered a "bandage liner", I don't know what I was thinking it was. This all is such a big learning experience. I already have a bandage liner from BiaCare that I really love. (Which was way less expensive btw) However I did need another garment to wear with my MedaHand gauntlet. I needed a garment that ends at the wrist so I can wear my MedaHand and my BiaCare bandage liner is a one piece. So anyway, hopefully now I have all I need.
I got a medium designed in slimline, meaning more channels and less foam. We will see how this compares with the BiaCare in reducing my arm at night.

have not had a problem with the seams on the Imak.
Then I'll take your word for it, and when they arrive, I will start with them Right side out. (thx for the tip)
I can wear my ring after the Farrow so it actually reduces. Cant wait to try the Actives !0 -
Victoria - will they take it back? It doesn't look like the bandage liners are custom. I see that they let you return the ready made sleeves. I don't know if mine was made to order or custom, i did get it green and got a "Jovi Jacket" for it to add additional compression at times. With mine you can bandage over it if you need to also. But I'd definitely see about returning it. I love my Jovi products!!!!

Thanks for the info from Josh Purple. If I mention him, it is ok for him to get in touch with me, or answer too. I know I had issues when I didn't know he was watching. Hope I didn't offend him I would be very interested when he has those available!! Wouldn't mind being a guinea pig for new products either!.

Linda, I don't want to return it, I do need a garment which goes to wrist only. But no it's not returnable anyway. They have ready made, made to order and custom. Mine is made to order. I was just surprised that they consider it a bandage liner, and is not meant to be worn without the cover, or bandages I guess. They mostly show it displayed w/o the cover sleeve. I knew about the JoviJacket, but I thought that was only for extra compression. W/O the sleeve mine is too loose at the top of my arm.
Anyway, we'll see how well it works tonight.0 -
How's the length on the Jovi sleeve for you Victoria?
I am waiting for my bia care sleeve to come in.
Purple. Solidea said I could cut my sleeve to make it shorter so I did. But the sleeve is now a bit loose at the wrist So I am not sure of the compression there now. Today I test drove it again with a farrow glove and a underamour tee. The underamour actually kept the sleeve from slipping off my back of my shoulders where it rests. That was a good thing. And the farrow seamed to have the right amount of compresseion at the wrist to gently hug over the solidea. I hope this kind of compression with the cut wrist is ok??? I didn't swell. But then I am not a big sweller. Even when I broke my ankle it didn't ballon like my friends ankle. But then I did elevate it lots.
That solidea with the farrow definately is not a class two compression, I would say combined it is a class 1.
Solieda doesn't have seams. It is a circular knit and the material is ribbed. Not sure if they show that on their website.
Who ever it was that tried the gauntlet. Did that solidea gauntlet have a compression 2 feel or more a compression 1 feel?

But the sleeve is now a bit loose at the wrist So I am not sure of the compression there now.
YIKES!
Sounds like you had to do quite a bit to get the proper compression, hugz. I dont think I would be comfortable with that much ' guesswork' in a world ( the LE world ) that already seems so darn iffy.Linda
I'm sure you did not offend Josh. I wouldn't worry about it. I think he is just trying to follow the forum rules. Yes, we would all love to be guinea pigs for Lymphedivas !

Hugz, I ordered a short in the JoviPak, and it fits perfectly. The inside arm length is 16.5". But you can order extra short in this style. Of the two I think the BiaCare is better. It is softer and more comfortable for one. It is much easier to put on and has those built in pulling handles which are really nice. In order to get my JoviPak all the way up I need to use my slippie. Not to mention the BiaCare is over $150 less. I love the silky material on the BiaCare. As to how well the two work, I still need to test that. The JoviPak did do pretty well on my forearm last night.

Just thought I would let you guys know that my PT had a sample of the Lymphedivas "Caution! Don't use this arm!" sleeve that you all had input on when it was being created. I tried it on, and it's very, very comfortable.
Just waiting for the Lymphedivas gloves......
impatiently....

I am wearing the hospital sleeve every so often to loosen it up a bit so It will be comfy when I need it.

Holy snausages Batman! Don't wear a gauntlet when you should be wearing a glove and go to Olive Garden and chomp on bread sticks and a salty entree. I'm just sayin'.

Oh Victoria, you are indeed a wise woman. How you acquired this wisdom, well...at least I hope it was delicious!

Victoria, I am saying, even if you are wearing LE gear... don't eat a whole big bag of salty chips like I once did...... Talk about no self control..... and talk about that swell taste..... Well....the swell taste went away but the ever so swell arm didn't! for a day or so. If you do this kind of a foolish thing... and we all will... Drink lots of water and perform your LE exercises etc.
Gotta get with my program now.

Back in the loop again. Our daughter just got married, so I was very very busy, and not too good about exercises or MLD. I didn't wear my glove (with my LPT's permission) for the wedding. In any case, with a few cuts on my LE fingers (who knows where I got them and no antibiotic cream handy and very busy) I now suffer the consequences of fluid built-up between the fingers and on the pads of my palm right under the fingers. What was good was that I had an appointment with my LPT today, and she right away did some MLD, and had me make 3 appointments. However, she only sees LE people once a week for about 3 hours, so there is never an immediate slot available. Hopefully the condition is reversible, and won't travel to my arm which has been fine till now. Strangely enough all measurements were actually lower than last time, other than the fluid build-up which was new. And she told me I must have antibiotic cream in my handbag at all times. Yeh, I should have known better.
I told her all about my experience with the black Farrow (They don't import that one in Israel) and she agreed that Farrow ought to have identical sizing for all colors. Having read on the forum about Biacare (Is that the name?) I found out that most brands that are sold in the States make their way here as well, just way more expensive. So now I will do my best to be good about everything, and do lots of MLD. She also told me to press harder where the fluid is tomove it out of the pockets, while doing the soft touch on the arm. Does anyone have similar instructions?
Another interesting thing - I have implants after BMX. One is harder than the other. She said she'd show me how to soften the hard one. I am glad I have such a knowledgeable and caring LPT, especially after starting originally with someone who wasn't. (She was nice, but didn't know/do enough).

Good to hear your back Dassi. Congrats on the wedding. Sounds like your on top of those cuts , great.
The hard implant sounds like scar tissue. My PS has me squeezing my implants 1 min, 3 times a day to keep the scar tissue from forming. I admit I only do it one or twice a day for the last few years but it keeps it soft. Be careful squeezing if you have breast LE. It is a gentle squeeze just enough to move the implant. Talk to your professionals about this exercise first. I haven't heard of any other girls being recommended to do this from their PS. He's a good PS and teaches at a university hospital.0 -
I recently reordered a Juzo soft sleeve and a Juzo expert glove. They just arrived, and the sleeve is 2+ inches shorter than the the Juzo sleeve I am currently wearing (which is supposed to be identical to the one I just got) or any of my old "retired" Juzo sleeves. Do circular knit sleeves get longer when they get older? KS1

No, not here, but I guess we are all different. Nice to have you back. I sure hope the hand is better soon. I carry antiB in my purse and car as well as the antiB bandaids.
Seems I am forever 'nicking ' myself.Take Care!
KS1I dont mean to sound stupid, but is there any chance at all soneone unintentionlly ordered you a short ? Can you dbl chk somehow ?
0 -
They couldn't have ordered the wrong size because it's a custom sleeve (and glove).
I reordered it using the reordering tag that comes with Juzo sleeves, so they either made it too short, or my current sleeve is longer because it is older. KS

Purple. I once got the wrong length size sent even though I ordered the right size, so it can happen. Got to be Sherlock Holmes with this LE gear stuff.
KS, That is so weird that a custom would be shorter than your old one. My older off shelfs stretch more wide but I haven't noticed if they get longer. Not sure of the custom. Drats and now you have to make a trip to the posty and of course insure it so it doesn't get lost in the mail. That costs

Dang!
That sounds frustrating- hope you get it resolved very quickly.0
